Last month I texted them saying that I have 6 gifted sessions and that was the 5th one. They texted back saying " okay :) ". Now today the day after our cleaning, they sent a text to my fiancee saying they sent him an invoice for the cleaning. Management seems to be a mess. The client should not see the invoice needs to be paid, when it is a gift -even if the invoice was not sent to me, but the gifter. [END EDIT] I was gifted 6 sessions of cleaning and have utilized Martha's Cleaning for the last 6 months as I have them come monthly. The cleaners are very nice and always do a good job. They don't speak English well, but they use a translator app to speak with you. There's been a few times that the cleaning wasn't exactly perfect so I've asked them to go over a certain spot/area, and they're always friendly and happy to do so and will clean what ever you ask them to. I 100% agree with the previous review from Jonathan P - they are never on time. They are consistently 10-30 minutes late, usually more about 10-20 minutes late. However, for someone with a strict schedule - I take that very seriously and it inconveniences me. I plan my entire life and work schedule to the minute. I may leave a prior engagement at a certain time, in order to meet the cleaners. It's extremely disrespectful of my time to be late as that's a waste of me time and I could have stayed at my prior engagements longer. At least 50% of the time, meaning at least 3 of the 6 appointments I've had - they call or text me the day of, asking if we can reschedule for a different time. They are friendly when I say no, and tell me " no problem, we'll be there at your scheduled time" - but I find it extremely unprofessional to ask a client to change their schedule when I book my appointments weeks in advance. Today was my last cleaning of the gifted services. This morning they texted at 10am and asked if the cleaners could come at noon instead of 3. I said no one would be home until 3, they texted back " ok no problem :)". Then I received a call a few hours later asking if the cleaners could come at 5. I was pretty upset and asked him why do I have to change my schedule when I scheduled weeks ago. He then replied " oh it's okay if you can't we're just checking. We can still come at 3". All these encounters really rub me the wrong way and as a client I do not feel my time is respected. We make appointments for a reason, a company should adhere to them and respect their client's schedule and time. All these calls added stress to my life and work day in trying to consider rescheduling with them. Overall, I was happy with the individual cleaners that come through, solid 4/5 stars. Unfortunately my encounters of attempting to reschedule with management has been a 2/5 stars and still makes me extremely upset when I think about it.

For starters, the 2 of them spent the entire first hour in my kitchen, which is incredibly small. As a result, it felt like they rushed through the rest of my apartment. When they left I looked, and at a glance it looks like they did great work. However it soon became apparent that they didn't move the furniture when cleaning the floors, dusted around things, and really just kind of half-assed it. As a result, I feel I need to clarify my earlier rating and update the overall rating. I'm going to break it down into a few areas here: Cleaning As far as the cleaning itself went, it was pretty good. If this review was based on cleaning alone, I'd call it 4 stars on the Yelp scale. I only had them over once, and I opted for the hourly service rather than have the entire house cleaned. What they did clean, they did pretty well. Price I didn't have them clean the entire house as the owner's over-the-phone estimate was "about $400 and up", which I thought was too high. Kim offered me an hourly option, which I thought would give me a good sense of how they worked and whether or not I could make something work with them. In my opinion, what her 3 professional cleaners were able to do for $250 wasn't quite worth it. Again, on the Yelp scale, this rates 2 stars in my book. Customer Service This is where things went sour. We had agreed on 2-1/2 hours, yet the team continued cleaning after that time was up. I thought they were either unaware of the time parameters I'd given Kim or were trying to up my bill a little. Turns out they were just trying to finish areas they'd started and weren't looking to increase the charges - something they could have told me beforehand. But it worked out. Afterward, the cleaning team spent quite a long time standing around on my front porch. It turns out they were waiting for a ride - again, they didn't tell me this. It wasn't anything major, but the lack of communication bothered me. At that point I'd rate customer service 3 stars. I didn't hear back from Kim after the cleaning, and since she didn't get back to me I wrote her off and wrote my review. She responded by telling me that her clients usually call her to schedule cleaning, not the other way around. Fine. But she also made comments that I found disturbing, inaccurate, and in some ways insulting. In particular, she said that she normally doesn't clean houses with uncaged or unconfined animals, something she did not state when I told her I had cats. She further stated that I should have read the client information section on her website, something I didn't know existed. Kim said that I "downed" her business. I replied that 3 stars here explicitly means "A-OK". It means "Good", which was my honest assessment. It does not mean Great and certainly not Excellent, which seemed to be what she expected me to write in my review. I pointed out that if she wanted a 5-star review, she would have to give 5-star service. So for customer service, it was down to 2 stars at that point, but I saw no point in changing the review to reflect that. But then... Bad Weirdness A while later, Kim posted a response to my review on Yelp in which she misrepresented our exchanges and also made disparaging comments about me and my household, which I regard as defamatory. She accused me of hoarding cats, implied that I was a bad parent and an unsanitary person, and generally tried to trash my reputation as a reviewer and as a customer. (For the record, I do not hoard cats. I keep my house as clean as possible with 3 high-maintenance children and several special-needs cats, all of whom (the cats, not the kids) were rescues of one sort or another. But that's why I wanted to hire a cleaning service - to clean, that is, rather than be insulted by one. And as far as being a bad parent, let me just say that I am the best bad parent in my zip code.) Kim concluded her response with a backhanded comment implying that I would not be able to find another cleaning service. In fact, I have: they are responsive, communicative, efficient, effective, and a whole lot cheaper than Kim's. I won't name them here as that wouldn't be fair, but you can find them on this site with consistently high praise from others (I haven't reviewed them as my wife has already done that). Also, they don't insult or libel me when I give them feedback. Anyway, my rating has dropped a star, not due to the service or price of the cleaning itself but due to the extremely poor treatment I've received from the owner subsequently. Yelp does not have a star rating low enough for that. The only thing keeping this at 2 stars rather than 1 is the fact that they did clean most of the areas of my house that I'd asked to be cleaned in a reasonably competent manner. Everything beyond that has been a severe disappointment.

We discussed by message what I'd need. He had a scheduler contact me and I gave some dates I could have this done. I didn't hear anything back until I got a text telling me one person was coming in 30 minutes on one of the days I said were fine. It was later in the afternoon, too. Wait? A deep clean with one person in the afternoon? Not going to work. After some back and forth with the scheduler, where I just ended up saying "Please have Rodney call me" a few times, the individual was cancelled. Rodney called me promptly. He was great, he saw where the confusion was, understood what I needed, sent me an easy payment link and we scheduled two people to come out for a deep clean promptly. Jalil and Ayla were amazing. They did a great job and were kind and friendly to my father as well. I then scheduled a weekly cleaning with Hughes, again it was Jalil and Ayla, they were once again fantastic, my house looks great and they were again kind to my dad, who I think deliberately is home so that he can visit with his friend Jalil, who, to his credit, just kept cleaning as he was listening to my dad's stories. Jalil is a heck of a nice person. I'm continuing to use Hughes for my regular cleaning. The measure of a business is how they respond when things don't go as planned. They measured up very well.
