Be warned by the bad reviews even when they're from a while ago, or else you'll end up like me. I ignored those reviews because I thought they were from a while ago. I thought the company must have used them to improve how they run things, but I was wrong. Not only does the dance studio not involve parents so much as far as how their child is doing and setting goals with parents for children who really want to take dance seriously, this place also gave me billing problems TWICE. I understood at the time my daughter was here, that they had to exercise COVID precautions, but the staff can also be so short with parents which made us feel like they're just there to take your money and not make it a long-term thing where my child can actually grow. They want you to just drop your child off and walk out ASAP, no Hi's or updates on how your child is doing and what to look forward to... Ms. Val can also be rude, Terry the dance teacher just very short and unwilling to interact, Sarita the owner also unwelcoming... They are always eager for parents to leave, no time to talk, just sign in and out... This one was for our younger child. Our older child has been in a place (gymnastics) wherein staff were really welcoming and really try to build a long lasting relationship with your family by updating you about your child, helping you realize your child's potential, helping your child look forward to reach their goals, etc. I wish this studio was more like that. Lastly, they had given me billing problems TWICE. One time, their billing system said i did not pay for May when it was SUPPOSED TO BE autopay and my card information was correct, that was stressful for someone trying to buy a home to risk being told i am not paying stuff on time! Ms. Sarita was thankfully able to resolve that. All the info I gave them was correct this whole time. The same correct card info then was used to bill me for August when my child won't even be coming back. When I pulled out my daughter in June, I casually said I MIGHT bring her back once school starts in August. So they had me sign a pause form that states my child will be back in August which was a misleading form, where NOBODY EXPLAINED to me that that was A BILLING FORM for an autopay form wherein i will get billed in August. I thought it was just a registration form unrelated to billing. Now they want to keep the money and coldly apologize that they cannot refund, after not explaining that what they had me sign was a billing form and not just a registration form. They want me to either take my daughter to dance class for a month when we already know we don't see our child growing in. They can't even transfer the funds to a one-day cooking class or something where I can just make up for the difference in price. Their reason is that the dance studio and cooking classes are two different companies." Tax-wise, yes they are. But they are owned by the SAME PERSON and my money went to that same person's pocket regardless! And the least this person can do is not just coldly apologize keep the money they automatically took via a deceitful billing/registration form, and actually make me feel like I can utilize the money on one of their other services.. If you wanted to be like me, who thought they'd give a place a chance despite the bad reviews, think again. read more

In my experience being at Magical Steps, it's a great environment for my daughter who has been dancing for 12 years. 6 years at another studio and 6 years with Magical Steps. I have never had a problem with not getting information regarding upcoming events or costumes orders or payments. Also I had never been charged for anything more than I have ordered or signed up for. This studio has been really good about giving me information on time. I read that someone said floors are not raised and this studio has raised flooring to help protect the dancers knees and joints and be sure the dancers are safe. read more

Save yourself the trouble and avoid this place. I wish I would have read reviews when I started my children here. Many of the same issues from 11+ years ago are still relevant. Including how Very deceptive business is run. Will try to charge you for things that have already been paid. Will steal money from you. And not a safe space. They do not care about your children and will not pay attention if there are issues with bullying. while Not everyone will feel unsafe, I am sharing my experience because for some select children, bullying is dismissed and there is a lack of empathy. The owner's ego when I asked her that I wanted to be present to watch my children during class because I did not feel safe, was greater than what my children were experiencing. She not only denied me the opportunity to sit in practice after months of complaints about a bullying situation, she became enraged and then became the bully herself and walked into the studio and aggressively yelled at my husband and I- with my 3 children present. She yelled because we hadn't returned her phone call or text message from the evening prior. She was upset because WE didn't reach out to her after a situation that occurred. In fact, I did talk to her in person and i had been communicating about this situation for months only to be dismissed and ignored each time we attempted to find a solution. It was absurd to me that she, as the business owner either had no idea we hadn't been in class or did not care until I said we did not feel safe- then it was an issue because my words of not feeling safe offended her. She expected us to call her rather than be a business owner / director and handle the situation. But that was typical of our interactions; she ignored situations and then blamed her staff and others when customers were upset. We were not believed since she claimed her instructors did not notice anything in class. Bullies don't always make it obvious. The majority of the situations occurred in the hallway when there is no adult present. When children are telling you that something is going on for months, I would think there is something to look into. I would think someone who claims to have worked with children would know that. There was never any communication or attempt at resolving the matter until I was no longer interested in returning to the studio at which point she stole our money and did not register my children for a competition that had been paid for for months and without any communication about it.The insult to injury is there were multiple kids who hadn't been to classes for the same amount of time as my children and also had large balances still owed for that competition and they were still allowed to compete. So while not everyone's experience with this studio is this horrible, it is not out of character for this business to steal, lie, dismiss bullying of your child, and yell at customers EVEN in front of the very children she claims to care about. They ignore any issues until the last minute. Will distribute information and order costumes until the last minute. Everything is last minute. Save your money and get quality instruction elsewhere. The best thing used to be competitive pricing but it is about the same pricing as other studios now. There are also issues with roaches inside of the studio. Every so often you can hear the kids screaming about seeing a roach. there are lots of reasons why classes are so small. Save yourself money and headaches and avoid this place. *if you want to care for your dancer's safety, avoid this studio. Floors should be raised for the health of their knees and joints. This place does NOT have raised floors. Yet another instance of them not caring for the safety of children and more about $$$ just like other reviews have mentioned. read more

STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!! The employees here are very rude and yell at the kids. I had my daughter in gymnastics here a couple of years ago and now I know why I stopped taking her there. The gymnastics teacher is so rude to the kids she made my daughter cry and made her kiss the floor and told her" kiss the floor since you don't do your handstands right and looks like you are kissing the floor then you probably like kissing the floor!! " this is not acceptable and this to me is child abuse. I took my other daughter in today to try the class hoping they had new and better staff but nope, same rude people working there. The ladies that work up front are totally unprofessional. Always talking about parents and the kids in a very negative manner. Walking in they can't even raise their head to say hello. The routines the "teach" here are comical. Very basic to say the least. Come December you have recitals where this place nickels and dimes for your everything. Mandatory t shirt for $10.... etc. Lastly this place is always overbooked. They take kids from the city along with the regulars. Max or over max capacity is an understatement. The ratio of the teacher to the kids isn't conducive. All this place cares about us your money. Look elsewhere. My experience and those of all of the parents that I speak with in the halls of Magical Steps. Have always spoken highly of teachers, owner, director, and the desk staff. My granddaughter looks forward to coming to Magical Steps every week. That is what gets her through her school week, knowing that she will be coming to dance and tumbling. She enjoys the magical money that is given out to her as she finishes class. She's learned to save her money to buy some thing bigger and she is always excited and I love Magical Steps the positive influences that everyone has had on my granddaughter. The staff is also very forthcoming with cost for costumes and recital starting in June or July for a recital that is in December. They don't overcharge you or charge you for things that you have not requested. I was looking for a dance studio that had some program that catered specifically to young (preschool) dancers. Magical Steps- Music and Dance Academy seems to fit the bill with a friendly staff and lovely teacher in Ms. Megan. My 3 y/o daughter just started and she fell in love with the place on her first day. The prices are VERY good and the flexibility in the schedule is pretty good as well. I look forward to a great experience for my daughter as she increases in her confidence not just as a new dancer but as a she makes friends and increases her social circle. Apparently they also offer some fitness and music classes and along with space for private parties as well. I'll be back to review once my daughter gets a few more classes under her belt but for now its looking pretty good! read more

My daughter has been with Magical Steps Studio for 6 years, the staff are very nice & helpful I would be lost with out them. My daughter takes many classes but her favorite class has always been tumbling/gymnastics, her coaches are great & very patient with her. My daughter was about 16 months when I tried her out for ballet. I find them to be disorganized. Seems like all they want to do is take your money. Be careful, they will hold you to a dance contract no matter what happens to you. Our daughter danced with them for years, but we went through life changing circumstances and she couldn't go anymore. They did not care and only cared about collecting dues. We tried to resolve amicably, but instead they are going through collections to collect dues. Really? Magical Steps is an amazing place for kids to enjoy dance and music. During my first visit everyone was so nice and inviting. The two workers in the front (one was at the desk, another in the store) were very helpful and informative. I even had a chance to meet the owner before she taught a class. I left my number and she called me the next day and answered all of my questions (I think she was on the phone with me for over 30 minutes answering all of my questions). Never once did I feel like I was being a bother. I have visited various other dance studios but magical steps felt the most inviting and personal. I immediately felt like part of the family. Here's an update for those interested in joining! Its been over 4 yrs since the start of my daughters adventure at Magical Steps, and we added piano classes with Mr. Michael who also teaches at Cal Poly Pomona. We also started Tumbling classes with Ms. Sarita who is an incredible teacher. My daughter loves how caring she is. My daughter also still takes classes from Ms. Megan who's wonderful. She's growing up so fast and getting better everyday. Great teachers and staff here. I always feel informed and up-to-date with upcoming events. They're posted everywhere which is great! I never feel like I will forget a performance, holiday event or deadline since the information is available on their website, in the studio, Facebook, and the front desk tv screen to say the least. As far as one of these negative reviewers mentioning something about negative comments I certainly haven't heard any, and I'm there a lot. When our family went overseas Ms. Sarita made sure our accounts were frozen, so we wouldn't get charged for the classes that month, which was great! Haven't had any problems with my account, so I don't know what one of these new reviews is talking about. Clearly that reviewer is off their rocker for leaving such a negative review. I mean who knows, it could be a glitch in the billing system, which means it isn't anyone's fault. I know for a fact the studio has also cancelled my friends account because she moved away with her family. My friend hasn't said anything to me about any problems whatsoever. My daughter loves it here, and so do all of the friends she's made. My granddaughter has been with Magical Steps for 3 years. She started with Baby Ballet and Pip Hop. They have been patient, kind and understanding. She wanted to try the summer camp the first year. She started a half day and by the last one, she stayed all day. Sarita and Megan and everyone involved were fabulous with her. She progressed to Musical Theater and was in Beauty and the Beast. This place is a great studio for young dancers. My younger sister goes here and she absolutely loves it. They make you feel like family, partially because it's a family business. They're always willing to go the extra mile to make sure the students have a ride to practice or the performances. The performances are abundant and range from locations like the local high school to the OC fair. Megan and her mother Sarita have created a great environment. I have to agree with Robin's comments. My 3 yr old daughter started in April and loves the school and looks forward to going to every class. She's always so excited, she practically runs through the door straight to Ms. Megan to say hi and get started with class (even if there is another class going on at the time). They had an informal recital a couple of weeks ago and it was the first time my daughter has ever been on stage, as well as performing in front of strangers. She loved it and during the recital, the school let her participate with other classmates for classes the didn't take just to help give her exposure. There is nothing like seeing the look on my daughter's face while we are there. I love it. It's been a great experience and I hope to continue there for a long time to come. This is a family owned studio and from my experience they treat everyone that is there as part of the family. I would recommend this school to everyone. read more

In fact, it's been over 3 weeks since she said my refund check has been mailed out and still nothing. I understand 'glitches' happen but not once did she reach out to me or even apologize. Again, I waited very patiently all this time. And to Shirley--though I appreciate her trying to defend Sarita and the company; I am entitled to my opinion and my experiences. There is no need to name call and bash any reviewer for their experiences. I can assure you, my 'rocker' is rocking just fine. I took my daughter to get experience. This is entry level dancing only. If you want to expose your child to dance the prices are good here but that's about it. I was going here for quite a while. We ordered $75 worth of pictures from a dance recital and never received the pictures. Then were told that we had signed for it. Super unorganized. And the proof they submitted was scribbled on scratch paper that didn't match anyonesignature from my family's signature. Their resolution was to reorder the pictures but wanted me to pay half. I've never gone back and will never recommend this place to anyone. read more

This business is run poorly and unprofessionally. This studio seems very concerned about getting as much money as they can. The recital costs this year were unbelievable. They asked for money for everything. Recital fees for the facility we were to use, costume fees that were double to last year, entrance fees for additional tickets, and they had each child in each class sell. Girls were asked to sell raffle tickets for baskets, baskets that each girl had to donate an item for those baskets. They were asked to sell advertisement spaces for the programs. All of the selling was under the guise that your child could could earn recital and costume credit. We wouldn't have needed to earn credit if the costs were reasonable like last year. If this studio runs this same recital program next year-we are out! This was communicated to the owner/stage mother who did not care. Tuition costs are raised without enough proper notice and it's not a balanced tuition system. You pay more if your child goes less hours. I work hard to be able to get my child there once a week, but for those who can afford to take their child everyday, they pay less for more hours of instruction. Yes they do pay more, but not much. If they pay for 3.5 hours of instruction, they can take as many classes as they want for the same price. Also, the environment is very toxic. Not for the primary instructor, but the mother who runs the office. She speaks about other parents and their children poorly to the other parents that are there, whom seem to be friends with her outside the studio. I have many times left to wait in my car because I felt uncomfortable about how she was talking about other parents and children that I know. Do not patronize this business. read more

She has been dancing at Magical Steps for 1 year now, and it truely is the high light of my daughters day to go to dance. Very warm and friendly atmosphere. We took our 3 year old daughter to this place initially because it was reasonably priced ($20/month) and classes were short (30 minutes long) and initimate since there were only about 5-7 other girls each week....and then we get the real face of the owner/operator. Everything that Haley O. stated in her review is completely accurate. This place has extremely poor communication with its students/families and will make it appear that it was somehow the parent's fault that the messages were not heard. Fees on top of fees on top of fees on top of fees for the recital...and when asked, the stage mother running the place will give a "matter-of-fact" answer that makes no sense whatsoever. The teacher is not bad, it's her mother who runs the place that is not a good person at all. Please save yourself the headache, frustration, and anger by staying away and going to a studio that treats its students and their families well. read more

No control over the class. The students take over which is not good. The younger kids class does not last long enough. Half hour for ballet and tap plus they are expected to change their shoes in between. No real structure. For the older kids the classes are ok. Low prices but you get what you pay for. read more
