This breezy shopping center on Atlantic used to be one giant store called Superco -- I got a rotating fan here one afternoon after dim sum at Ocean Star in the next block. Sadly, Superco and Ocean Star are both gone, but rising from the ashes is a bunch of fun stuff, like Smoking Tiger and this jumbo-sized nail salon next door, Magical Nails. Nothing too magical about it, but this busy salon has about 10,000 polish shades to choose from, and a printed menu with prices so you know what you're getting and how much it will be. All the salon chairs have the back massage function which kills two birds with one stone. Easy parking right in front, walk-ins welcome, and no waiting for your mani-pedi. I stuck my nose in to have a look, and was getting beautified just a few moments later. Minus one star for some unnecessary upselling, and a sour face from the greeter when I declined. The nail techs here do a great job on your nails. However, I do feel like the service could improve. A couple times i went, when I requested a different nail color, or was debating on a nail design, the nail tech seemed kinda annoyed. However, a couple other times I went, the nail techs were nice and polite. It probably just depends on the person you get. Also, I feel like the nail techs can be a bit more gentle when working too. I admit, they do a great job, but almost every time I come here, they accidentely scratch around my nail with the tools. They do apologize and are really nice about it. I understand things happen, but it happens most of the time I get my nails done here. Also, one time I got a gel x removal here, and they did not soak it off with acetone .. they just got a tool and pryed away. It was a more rough experience. There was also still gel x stuck on a couple of my nails that they couldn't pry off, but I was charged the full cost of the removal. However, the other two times I got just a gel x removal, they soaked it off with acetone and did it properly. I do appreciate that this salon takes walk ins tho!! The technician used an electric file machine on my nails five times for 35 minutes -- my nails were already barely there from a set done a month ago. I had some time to kill before class and decided to give this place a try based off the amazing reviews. They were able to take me as soon as I walked in and opted for the regular spa pedicure. While getting my service I noticed that my tech cut me twice but did try stopping the bleeding or cleaning it up. ( still still the blood in one of the pictures) They kept trying to pressure me to get gel polish but I stood firm on getting regular polish since I don't often get pedicures done in the first place. After my pedicure was done she said to wait until the polish was done drying and walked away. This is when I realized one of my toe nails was cut uneven. ( look at the picture ) and I didn't get a cuticle oil. I was there waiting for about 15-20 minutes ( I was on a zoom call hence I was able to keep track of the time waiting) It wasn't until I asked someone if I was okay to put my shoes on and leave. They said yes and asked me to sit so I can get my manicure done, i never expressed I wanted a manicure and told them no, which I think upset them. I went to the front and paid cash and left. I had such a great experience here! I made a 5:30 PM appointment for a mani and pedi, arrived early, and was seated right away. The two nail techs were amazing and made sure I was comfortable the entire time , adjusting my pillow, checking the water temperature, and offering me a drink. Loved my first time here! Tee did my full set and absolutely nailed the design. I showed her my inspo, and she brought it to life perfectly while keeping everything clean, detailed, and not bulky. Randomly came across this nail salon and loved it! My friend and I were waiting to have lunch at Kagura next door. It was a pretty hot day and the wait was over an hour long, so I decided to check out Magical Nails & Spa since I've been overdue for a manicure and pedicure. I initially asked for a manicure only since I didn't think I'd have enough time for both. When I told the ladies that I was waiting for lunch next door, they said they'd put two people on me so that I could get a manicure and pedicure at the same time! I got a standard gel manicure from Kayla and a deluxe gel pedicure from Lan. They both did an amazing job and worked very fast, but I didn't feel they were rushing the job at all. I'm very happy with how my nails turned out and will definitely return here whenever I'm in the area! Prices were very reasonable as well, especially to what I've seen in the Bay. The salon itself is quite new (less than a year old) and very clean. The massage chairs and AC made the experience extra relaxing on a hot day. I've been here twice. My first time was great. I actually had the owner work on my nails and got a lot of compliments. I even had someone do the exact design with the owner a different time. They really enjoyed their experience. However, the second time I came I can't say that I had the best experience. I've gotten manicures and pedicures many times and this is the first time, they didn't clean or cut my cuticles on my hands which I thought was very odd. I had someone named Kayla help me and I felt like she was in a rush plus she left a lot of mistakes on my nails. The guy that did my pedicure simultaneously while Kayla did my manicure was very kind and incredibly diligent. I didn't get his name but I'd get my nails done with him again but wouldn't recommend Kayla. Inside is very clean lots of chairs and space and feel felt very relaxing especially with the massaging chairs that's a huge hit. I made an appointment same day and came in for a gel manicure and was pleasantly surprised by how efficient the service was--I was in and out in under an hour. There were a few language barriers during the appointment, but overall, the staff was kind and tried their best to communicate. I asked for OPI's Bubble Bath and they brought different colors which were similar but certainly not the one. I had to emphasize I wanted a light sheer pink. The man who did my nails did not ask me about what nail shape I wanted or if I wanted to keep length. But it's okay. I've been wanting a pedicure for some time now so I finally booked an appt on my day off today, Tuesday 11/5 for 10:15 AM. I was a little bummed that I missed the 20% off discount grand opening, which ended 10/31 last week. Scheduling: I love how easy and seamless the appt booking was. They have options to book via Yelp or directly on their website. I ended up booking a regular pedicure $25 (as of November 2024) with Julie (one of the owners) the day before. magicalnailsmpk.com Pricing: It's great how transparent their pricing is. They post their pricing online on their website as opposed to keeping it more hidden like some other nail places. However, please note that these are cash prices and there is a 2% Service fee added to prices when paying with card. Appt: You check in at their IPad at the front and receive a number. I came a little earlier than my appt and was immediately sat down at a chair. So I booked my appt with Julie, but Sandy ended up doing my nails. Not going to lie, I was a little frustrated that I got another technician and not Julie, who I booked for but I tried to just be more open. The pedicure bowls are lined but the water was room temperature and not bubbling for the longest time so I was just placing my foot in stagnant room temp water that barely reached my foot (short girl problems). They had to place an attachment to the Pedi bowl for the bubbles, which felt better. She did do a great, short calf massage with some pressure (usually they just go super light lol). I enjoyed this and wish it was longer of course haha. I chose the color Spiced Berry 478, which is a deeper burgundy/wine color with a good sheen. Def has vampy vibes. Sandy was meticulous with the nail painting and cleaned my nails with a brush as opposed to her fingers (which is a plus in my book!). The look of my regular pedicure was pretty good, but I don't think she painted the same amt of layers on each nail so my big toes look slightly darker than the rest of my toenails. The colors on my left foot (other than the big toe) are just lighter colored in general. Also, after a closer inspection, a few of my toenails (like the pinky and the toe next to it on my left foot) are crooked...So I guess not as thorough as I originally thought. Location: Beautiful new shop that's super bright and clean. They have more of a marble, white, gold, and black aesthetic. They did not have the AC on and only had the doors opened so it was initially pretty warm and stuffy in the beginning (I had to remove my denim jacket) but it eventually cooled down. Parking: The parking lot is small since it shares the space with The Tea, but there is plenty of parking in the nearby plaza so no issues here! All in all, I think my expectations weren't entirely met. I'm hoping to have a more well-rounded experience next time. Congrats to Magical Nails again for opening this location! read more

The nail tech cut a couple of my nails on my left hand when I didn't want them cut. These are my natural nails since I don't like wearing fake ones, so now it's gonna take more than a month for them to grow to match the length of the rest of my nails. Here's the thing -- I sometimes wear contact lenses so for that reason, I need the nails on my thumb and pointer finger on my right hand shorter so I can remove them. The rest of my nails I like having long. I told the nail tech that I only wanted the nails on those two fingers of my right hand cut, nothing else. I'm not sure why she proceeded to match the other side and cut the nails on my left hand, too. I never asked her to do that. Like I said earlier, I like having natural nails so I'm going to have a whole month of my left hand looking awkward To make matters worse, my birthday is in four days. I just wanted a nice set for a milestone birthday that's approaching, and now I won't even have that because of the nail tech's mistake. Thanks a lot. While paying, I told the ladies who were at the register what happened and they just gave me an additional discount. They already do 15% discount Mondays and Tuesdays before a certain time, so they tacked on an additional 5% for their mistake. Honestly, that did not make me feel better. Granted, one did offer to help but I didn't want to be there anymore. The damage was already done and I'm so unhappy with how my nails look Side note -- they won't do ombré with dipping powder here for whatever reason. These are the final products of my nails.. I was helped my Allana? And Nancy? I can't remember the names anymore but. Don't get me wrong, Nancy was very nice. When I went to the store, it was very hectic. They have a sign that says 15% off from X time to X time. They asked me to grab a ticket and told me that the wait would be five minutes. It took more than that and I understand why, due to the rush. I was asked to sit and they left the water running long, I had to ask someone twice to shut the water off or it would overflow. The First Lady : Allana The ways she handled my feet honestly felt like she was in a rush and was so angry. I had to ask multiple times to see if she was mad. I won't go in to detail but she was very rough. I wanted to relax the day I came. The Second Lady: Nancy She was very nice at first, she saw my nails (fingers) and told me she would fix my nails and help me. She said she would do it cheaper for me so I can save money. She filled my nails. I was already in a bad mood because of the roughness of how my feet were handled but I tried to be positive. I understand that these ladies are working hard. I told her that my pinky nail looked like someone bent it. But she got frustrated and kept saying she didn't do this, the other salon did. (My pinky nail was perfectly normal) before it was done. I had a last service done which was my eyebrows and Nance did a great job with this. That's why I'm giving this a 2 Star review. I wouldn't want to come back and it felt like I didn't save my money. Maybe it was my luck/timing but it didn't go well. I wouldn't come back here. Maybe it was just busy that day but it was enough to give me an impression. I was not satisfied with the care. There was a bubble in the middle of the nail, and she messed up one nail during working on it. Why the pedicure was fine? Because it's done by another lady. I haven't said anything about the pedicure because that lady can do a okay job. But your mananger, she did a horrible job with a terrible attitude. I have been looking for a place that offered all of the services that I need, instead of going from the nail salon to a full face threading and half arm waxing location. I had to try this five star Yelp location since they are currently offering 20% off during their soft opening. I love how big, pretty, and clean this place is. I was thankful for the complimentary water. I was also happy to see that they use disposable spa covers. I love that the massage chair stayed on. I didn't have to keep turning it on every 15 minutes like other salon locations. Lam did my pedicure. I brought my own CND base, color, and top coat. She used something else first, and I was told it makes the color last longer. I brought my own base coat for a reason. I was surprised that she filed my nails after the gel pedicure. That's also a first. Then she placed something on the gel, and it made it sticky. I'll try Kayla next time, since she has numerous 5 star reviews. Kayla did a great job waxing my arm. Annie did a lot of plucking after she threaded my face. That just goes to show how meticulous she is. I was told that I received a 20 percent discount, because it is their promotion during their soft opening. I ended up calling them back, because I only received a 10 percent discount. At first she said that it showed that I received the 20 percent off. I told her I only received 1 dollar after giving the person 100 dollars, instead of 11 dollars and 20 cents. I heard them talking, and I was then told that they would give me a 10 dollar credit, when I come back. I had mixed feelings as to how many stars I should give. My pedicure is 1 star, because I need to have them redone. She broke the gel seal when she filed my nails after they were cured. My waxing and threading is 5 stars. Since I was told that it showed that I paid 80 percent when I called them regarding the dispute. Someone was being dishonest, and it wasn't me. Receiving the incorrect discount is 3 stars. When you average all that out it comes to 3.5 stars. Since it is their soft opening, I gave 4 stars instead of 3. I decided to give this nail salon a try because they are offering 20% off during their soft opening phase. I messaged the business for an appointment through Yelp and they responded quickly. I was asked to check-in at the tablet by the entrance upon arrival. A ticket with my name printed and I gave it to my nail technician. She was careful with the removal and application of my gel polish which I appreciated. She was also very patient with me as I went through their decal box to choose my design. Decor has an upscale type feel which could be intimidating but their prices are reasonable. Unprofessional, hidden fees, and poor quality. I had a very frustrating experience with Alanna. It started with her ignoring my request for a round shape and continuing to file them square anyway. Things went downhill when the "blue-grey" color I chose turned out completely opaque and unlike the swatch. Instead of stopping to let me pick a new color, she applied ten layers and then unilaterally decided to switch to a different blue without my input. Beyond the aesthetic issues, the business practices felt shady. Alanna tried to upsell me on "cat eye" effects without mentioning the cost, and then applied a "clear coat for strong nails" that turned out to be a $15 "Gel Builder" charge not even listed on the menu. I wasn't told this was an extra service until I saw the bill. The final result? Messy edges and a color I hate. Even my husband who does not have a discerning eye noticed how unpolished they look. The manager at least took off the extra charge but it was a shady attempt by Alanna. Save your time and money--avoid Alanna. read more

I usually do my nails myself but felt like treating myself to a manicure after a long week, and I'm glad I did. After checking in at the kiosk, I was immediately seated and assigned Crystal as my nail tech. Crystal did an amazing job with prepping my nails. She asked me to check the length and shape to make sure I liked them, and also tested different shades of pink on my nails to find one I liked. I also wanted gems which she picked the shape and size that would look proportional for my nail size. She was very meticulous with each step which I appreciated. It's been about a week and a half now and the gel polish has not chipped at all and the gems have not budged. There's only one small part on my left pinky that has slightly lifted from the side but it's not noticeable unless you really look. I will definitely be back. read more

If I could give this place ZERO stars I would. It's a brand new nail salon, and the space is nice and clean. However, the professionalism and lack of experience from the staff is below standard. The woman who was working on my nails by the name of "Eva" was rude from the start. I let her know that I had gel on my nails out of courtesy because most nail techs ask. I get snapped at stating "I know!" Like oops my bad for being courteous! She proceeded to remove my gel polish and shape and cut my nails. After she removed my cuticles she took the small bowl I was previously soaking my fingers in, and cleaned the tool in it. Then she proceeded to tell me to dip my hands in it and "rinse off" like really? In dirty water? Well reluctantly I did, and I kid you not, she dumped the dirty alcohol water with my cuticles into the water that my feet were soaking in! I have never experienced such disgust. When I showed her a picture of what I wanted she said they could do it. I wanted a base color with cat eye. She walked away and brought me just the cat eye color and proceeded to paint my nails. I asked her why she didn't put the base color that I requested and she snapped AGAIN, and said "we don't have color!" I told her, that I understand but that the cat eye color I chose would suffice. She was still persistent and argued that the color was different and she could not do it. She even went ahead and told me to pick a different color that she recommended because it was "better." First and foremost, no one is going to tell me what color I should put on my nails that I am paying for. Secondly, to argue with a customer after saying that you can provide a service, then switching stating you can't is unprofessional. I was very dissatisfied and upset. I told her I no longer wanted color on my nails and to just leave them with a clear gel. She then proceeded to tell me "I told you we can't do color... instead of charging you $38, I'm charging you $31." Like oh thanks! As if she was doing me a favor. On top of that she cut my finger while removing the cuticle and let it bleed until it was obvious to her that she had to clean it. I will not be back whatsoever.
