It's packed with imaginative play structures, including a retired fire engine and airplane that my kids couldn't get enough of--they spent hours climbing and pretending to be pilots and firefighters. The swings, slides, and climbing structures are well-maintained, and the layout ensures there's something for both younger and older children. I also appreciated how clean and safe the area felt, with plenty of benches for parents to keep an eye on the little ones. What makes Oak Meadow Park truly special, though, is the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad and the W.E. Bill Mason Carousel. The mini train ride, which winds through the park and into the adjacent Vasona Lake County Park, was a highlight for my family. At just $3 a ticket (and free for kids under 2), it's an affordable treat that brought smiles to everyone's faces. The carousel, with its vintage charm, was equally enchanting--my kids begged to ride it multiple times. Both are operated by volunteers who clearly love what they do, adding a warm, community feel to the experience. The park also boasts plenty of open grassy fields, perfect for a game of frisbee or soccer, and the creek-side walking paths are serene for a leisurely stroll. We packed a picnic and enjoyed one of the many tables available, though I'd recommend reserving a spot for larger groups since the picnic areas can get busy. The park's location next to Vasona Lake County Park is a bonus, giving you access to even more trails and activities without needing to drive. We sat closer to the bathrooms, so far enough away from the playground. If you're going to sit on the grass just be careful about not sitting in geese poop. They have several areas where they keep picnic tables. You might just want to bring a wet rag or something to clean off the space. If you're looking for entertainment for the kids, you can take a mini train ride throughout the park. On weekends they have the snack bar open. They sell candy, soda pop, hamburgers and hot dogs. Never had anything there but in case you came to the park and decided to stay a little longer, then there's food available. They keep the park relatively clean. Plenty of garbage cans so no littering. There's a beautiful creek that is close to the park.

It's especially pretty during the fall because the trees have all turned colors. It's nestled in a neighborhood so feels safe and quaint. I liked the cute "kids only" treehouse sign on the playground. My daughter enjoyed climbing the faux rocks. It was busy on the Saturday we came. The bad: The sand and splash pad area are adjacent so that gets messy with kids. The interesting: The name comes from the former principal of the school that used to be located where the park is now.

There are two separate play areas, a smaller one that seems perfect for toddlers and another for bigger kids. There are swings, the cutest little slides, and plenty of different activities to keep the kids entertained. I also really appreciated that it's an inclusive playground, with equipment that allows children with different abilities to participate and enjoy the space too. And they didn't forget about the parents! There's a walking path around the play area plus exercise equipment, so while the little ones are playing, Mom can get some steps in or even squeeze in a workout. The kids had a blast, and I loved the setup. Definitely a great spot for a playdate, some outdoor time, and a little exercise for Mom too! We'll absolutely be back.

Lakewood Park is a beautiful, open space with play structures spread apart allowing each to be highlighted, explored and enjoyed individually. Multiple children are able to enjoy the same structure at once without fear of one stepping on the other or intruding on any small enclosed spaces. Our daughter weaved on and off different play structures during her time here, bouncing from one to another. Her engagement lasted about two hours. Each structure had so many spaces to explore, engage with and discover the different ways to interact with it. From the enclosed smaller kids play area, to the slides, swings in multiple variations, the exercise equipment, the webbed spinning globe, the three different seated spinners with one being wheel chair accessible, to the galactic looking structure with built in climbs, slides, crawl spaces and more. There are benches spread throughout the play area affording the big people places to sit and check in on their littles. One con is the lack of shaded seating or areas available to lessen sun exposure on intensely hot days. Today, the breeze was very present yet the sun shined brilliantly with temperatures near 80. I know it is certainly not the hottest of days Sunnyvale experiences, for the health of our daughter any temperature higher would not have permitted her to be present. Parking is street and limited for the number of visitors present. We are here on a Saturday afternoon, weekdays may prove different. There are no food stands close by, I would recommend bringing snacks and definitely having water on hand. There is a portion of park area under construction, thankfully it is contained and not available for littles to enter. I am excited to see what comes of the space. I would definitely recommend a visit, your little one with thank you. If you're not shy, your inner child with thank you too!

The smaller structure is advised for 2-5 year olds and then there's the big kid structure that's supposed to be for 5-12 year olds. There are three types of swings, and two of each. There's a large sand area at both structures. Both structures are at least partially shaded. The smaller kid structure has more shade than the larger which is great since to me, keeping a younger child in shade is more important. There's also a basketball hoop and some grassy area bordering the play structure area. And there's picnic tables. It's not a huge park but it is lovely, and my 3 year old didn't want to leave. The only thing about this place is parking is quite limited for such a large park. I definitely recommend bringing your bike here. The bike trail leads to Los Gatos Creek Trail, which is nice. Nice place to get some sun. Don't forget about the basketball courts. And also, you can easily walk to downtown Campbell from here.

While it has some inclusive features, many structures don't feel designed with littles or kids with disabilities in mind. There are open stairs and gaps with no barriers, which made it stressful as my son kept running toward unsafe areas. We liked the climbing section with the big slide, but access wasn't very accessible and things got chaotic with kids not taking turns. The open field is nice for activities like kite flying, but again, no barriers meant constant redirection. Also worth noting: the dog park is right next to the baby swings and restrooms, and parking is very limited and easy to miss. Overall, some nice features, but the lack of safety made it more stressful than enjoyable for us.

But that just means an extra trek around Don Callejon if running laps here. The tree-lined pathways on the border are lovely, however there is no shade found elsewhere in the wide open space that makes up the majority of this park. Still, the place is great for picnicking, playing sports, or for kids to just run around. There are also a few benches along the trail, a playground at the corner of the park, and a restroom near the play area. Nothing really exciting or unique about this place, but it's clean and spacious and a decent option for spending time outdoors. I appreciate that they even post banners sharing local attractions and events happening around the city of Santa Clara. In fact, that led me to my next stop later in the evening, to check out the "Nebula Rider" (separate review on that).
