Before I begin my review, I would like to thank my parents for never bringing me here during my childhood. Since I saw a friend post a picture of the ribeye on a Facebook group page, I decided to dine here. I was seated by a Mad Hatter impersonator. Then I looked at the menu. My waiter arrived dressed either like a character on Jumanji or Steve Irwin or whatever. I couldn't tell the difference. The waiter asked if I'd like an appetizer and a drink and I ordered the green magic potion and Southwestern egg rolls. The magic potion was just sugar water with bubbles. The egg rolls, which the waiter threw on my table, were just a cheap carbon copy of the ones served at Chili's but were wrapped in egg roll wrapping instead of a tortilla and only came with sour cream and guacamole. The egg rolls weren't much to write home about. Since I didn't want my entree and appetizer to arrive together, I ate the egg rolls first then placed my order for a ribeye, some fried shrimp and a baked potato. The waiter told me I can help myself to the salad bar. The salad bar was just bland and offered just lettuce, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, croutons but had plenty of options for salad dressing. While helping myself at the salad bar I heard a waitress sing or try to sing her own rendition of Dolly Parton's Island in the Stream. Before I finished my salad, the waiter brought me a loaf of bread by asking me to smell his buns. *eye roll* The bread arrived with a cup of knock off cinnamon butter similar to Texas Roadhouse. The bread though came nothing close to Texas Roadhouse's rolls. Minutes later a food runner brought my entree instead of my waiter. The steak's presentation was good and had the grill marks. The fried shrimp was ok. The baked potato was served naked without aluminum foil but the steak's juices touched the potato and I only took a few bites of the potato and finished my ribeye that had lots of gristle and cooked longer than I had ordered it. The waiter didn't refill my water or my magic potion but I didn't care and was ready for dessert so I had ordered the strawberry shortcake. The waiter arrived with the dessert which he claimed that he made himself. *another eyeroll* Sadly, the strawberry shortcake was the highlight of the meal and the only part that didn't suck. I was dismayed by the price. And I didn't care for the waiter's attitude either. read more

If you were here when you were younger, it is just the same today. This was a truly fun experience and one I plan on doing again in the near future. We had a birthday party group of four and we had the Roman Orgy! It was quite tasty. We sat in Sponge Bob's house. Ariel was our server. The drinks were wonderful and so was the food. The birthday celebration stuff was fun. Even washing our hands at the end was fun with all the bubbles and dry ice. If you have never been here, you are missing a wonderful experience. If you have kids, you should have already been here many times. If not, stop slighting your children and give them an experience they will not forget! This place is, was, and is still great! My family and I were really hesitant on trying this place out for my daughters 14th birthday. But boy we are glad we did! I was reading a lot of the reviews and some were complaining about the staff, truly I thought the staff were awesome, even though some of them mess with you, but it's all in joking manner, not as harsh as Dicks, but still fun. Our waitress was awesome, Spider Gwen, we can't thank you enough for being a great waitress and took care of our needs. We ordered an array of food from the mozzarella sticks, spinach and artichoke dip to the ribeye and chicken Alfredo, which were amazing! I would most certainly be back for the experience again with possibly another character! But if possible, have a seat with Spider Gwen and she will take care of you! read more

It is a must try at least once, it is very different and you'll love the craziness that goes on in here. Look, it is very very expensive, we spent I believe $180 for 6 people. I thought it was a lot. The food is not the greatest but not the worse but way overpriced for the quality. It's a shame it's so over priced because we loved it. Their waiting staff is so in character it really makes your visit amazing. They're so invested in their characters that they really sale you on the themes and get the whole family involved in one way or in other. Our waitress was Katniss Everdeen and we loved everything about her. So after getting the checked we basically paid for dinner & a show and that's how we justified this big bill. Every time we visit San Antonio, we make plans to have dinner here. I forgot to make reservations and learned it was a 30 min wait. To my surprise, they offer to add your name to the waitlist virtually. Thankfully I put my name on the waitlist - while we headed there. It was a great option to have as we made it with only a 10 min wait. We always love the ambiance. Each server is dressed in character and they make dinner fun!!! As an actor myself, I love the playfulness and joy they bring to their customers. Food has always been very tasty! And they have options for picky eaters. The trip to the salad bar is an added bonus!! Make sure you don't need to use the restroom because as is customary, they make an announcement about your visit to the loo. If the food were better it would get , but this is honestly just your basic amusement restaurant food. Nothing seems to be made in house or fresh. The only reason I'm giving high marks is because the staff does a excellent job keeping their patrons engaged and happy. 4.5/5 You come here for the experience. And what you get is an experience. We went for our 11th Anniversary, but since COVID, we've started incorporating our kids into our celebrations. Since we are leaving town to move to another state soon, I figured we should give this place a try. We'd been talking about it forever. First of all, though I couldn't make a reservation, our walk-in wait at around 5:00pm on a Sunday was only 30 minutes. We weren't bored during that time because there are plenty of things to do. You can go to the family friendly bar for a drink, get your face painted (for a fee), play games, etc. By the time I had a unicorn on my face and my youngest had a cool spider painted on his arm it was time to eat! We were taken back to a little nook (nearly all the seating feels very private) where we were greeted by our server (The White Rabbit) who was funny and attentive. There is a bit of 'roasting your patrons' (especially the kids) that happens (or maybe that's just the White Rabbit experience) and my kids loved it. The food is good. It's better than okay but not really great. Standard steakhouse fare but on a budget. I had the steak and ribs. The steak was very good but the ribs did leave a bit to be desired. The mashed potatoes were great. My husband had steak and salmon. I don't eat fish, so i can't vouch for it personally, but my three companions who love fish raved about it. The kids were very happy with their meals. The only way to bump this play up to 5 stars would be just a little more attention paid to the food, but it's very hard to complain. We had a coupon that allows us a discount if we spent up to $100. All four of us had specialty drinks (the adults had alcohol), entrees, and a shared dessert and came out under $100. Our waiter handled the situation well. We told him, give us some desserts to take up. Whatever gets us to $100. He got our bill to exactly $100.14 - and we went home with two desserts and a cookie. Noisy, expensive, supposed entertaining waiters are not. Food is average. My $38 steak was cold and under cooked, I like medium rare. Not raw. They did graciously cook it more. Just odd, weird and really not fun. Took our 10 year old grand daughter for her birthday expecting something special. She even thought it was odd and not much fun. This restaurant is a must-see for anyone with out of town (children) guests. Entering the restaurant is an experience as they provide waitstaff that are encouraged to play as characters and celebrities - this may include Disney characters, Superheroes, Singers, or anything you can think of! It's a fun experience, though, it does get a little old after a while. Your experience can vary depending on which server you get. I've had some good experiences and then some very lukewarm. I will say, I've been coming for over ten years so I've seen the good, bad and very ugly (and I don't mean that time with the stepsister...) We usually order the Roman Orgy, which on second thought sounds rather anti-family. It consists of chicken, beef, fruit, and many other items and include a salad. The salad allows you to go to a salad bar that sits on top of something shaped like a car. The food is surprisingly okay, considering that the atmosphere seems more cinematic than gourmet. It does get extremely busy and you must have a certain number of people to book a table. Also, they have some rooms that are much cooler than others. I recommend getting a better table to enjoy the atmosphere. Further, try the magic potions. It's fun to see for your first visit or if you have children with you. read more

This has been my daughter's go to birthday dinner for the last 13 years since moving to SA. Unfortunately ,last nights 20 yr birthday dinner will be our last. Sad to see this tradition end but the food was subpar at best - shrimp, fish and lobster was blehhh, chicken alfredo was just warm in arrival- nothing impressive at all. I know it's not really the food you go for but the experience- BUT my daughter even asked us if the characters were worse or if they just didn't interact / razz/ entertain/ engage with older diners as she was missing the magical experience of Magic Time Machine. I was unsure about this place based on reviews. We brought our 13yo son and 12yo niece. They loved the atmosphere and entertainment. We had 80s Workout Barbie as a waitress and she was amazing! The food is average and much of the place needs updating. But, I would suggest eating here at least once to get the Magic Time Machine experience! Excellent venue for birthdays for the young and old. We sat at the Disco dance floor and our server/entertainer was "Loki" who was amazing and hilarious causing adults and children to laugh out loud! The food and drinks were great; I only missed the cheese wafers at the salad bar. They were replaced by croutons. I have loved those cheese waiters since the 1970s and was saddened they were absent. Otherwise, it was a great experience for the entire group...and our honoree was celebrating his 77th birthday. We took some wonderful family pictures. Thank you for a fantastic birthday!!! read more

I was reading somewhere that it was opened in 1973 and that's exactly where it is today. 1973 As I walked in a pair of cheap flip flops they began sticking to the floor, the CARPETED FLOOR!!!!! The bathroom and all the furnishings are just sad. Now if you can get past the dirty filth you will find a high priced restaurant with slightly entertaining servers. The servers do their best and if not for them you would see zero stars. I had grilled chicken parmigiana and it was ok. $15 A pop The kids meal are $9 and don't include a drink and they are just awful. I can't for the life of me understand how you can bypass the pricing, food and run down furnishings and give this place 4 or 5 stars. The food is not bad and the place serves a purpose but come on guys. Clean this place up. Will I be back? No. Was I entertained? Not really. read more

I ordered the Salmon and it was pretty good, not the best Salmon I have ever had but it was ok. The salad bar is really fresh and this restaurant is a fun place to bring the kids. I also sampled the fried shrimp which was very good. I will order the shrimp when I come back with the kids. My husband ordered the prime rib. He did not like it. There is nothing hotter than being seranaded on my birthday by the handsome men here to the sound of "you lost that loving feeling" *sigh*. This is one of those unforgettable spots that I have so many great memories at....from being served and smooched by Captain Jack to listening to Just Like That (classic rock) in the mine shaft part of the building. The bartendars are very attentive and friendly here. Every waiter I have gotten has always been academy award winning. Some of my favorites have been Ace Ventura, Elvis, and CAPTAIN Jack Sparrow (don't forget the captain part). If this place won't make you smile then nothing will. A long time ago there used to be one of these in Austin and my wife loved it so we had to try the one in San Antonio. We went on a Monday night at 5:30 pm. Mondays are slower than weekends so they have less staff dressed up in costumes, which is one of the reasons to go here, we still had a good time and the food was good. Our server/entertainer Katniss made us feel welcome and brought us a great drink called a koo koo colada, plenty strong and it went down real smooth, we shared it as well as the fried fantail shrimp and the grilled parmesan chicken, wifey had them sub the pasta with grilled veggies. Both entrees came with an unending salad bar located inside an antique sports car. We also shared a frozen raspberry margarita, very tasty. I thought this place was just a "foolish tourist destination" Of Course it was!!! but I also had one of the best pieces of prime rib that I've had since I moved to San Antonio 2 years ago. Served by "Aeriel" of Little Mermaid Fame, we had an enjoyable date night. Great salad bar, super hero's running around everywhere, OMG Napoleon Dynamite! Wearing a IN with Pedro! He cracked us up! This place was so much fun! The characters were so playful and hilarious! We had Napoleon Dynamite for a waiter and he honestly made it the best time. The food was pretty good, not quite worth the price but not horrible tasting either. We had the artichoke and spinach dip, kids pizzas, prime rib, top sirloin, catfish and shrimp, and chicken Alfredo. The bubbles at the end are for washing your hands and that was neat. The food has always been pricey and not great, but definitely a great place to take the kids for the experience. Sadly, the show is also really tired. Most of the costumes are severely lacking. Really just thrown together and very sad representations of who they are supposed to be. The characters don't have character. A one liner or two, at most, a character voice that turns off and on. Just really poor showmanship. The characters used to be really on point and funny and exciting, making it easy to overlook the frozen food. Not anymore! My suggestion might be to go after dinner and enjoy dessert. read more
