As I was walking around, I happened to pass by this place and a lady came out and said "hello! take a picture of our sign in the window and cal for an appointment." .... The hospitality stuck with me, so I did just that. I got a gel manicure and regular pedicure on a Wednesday afternoon. They have a special for $50 for both, $5 to remove old gel. I was greeted but two lovely ladies named Maggie and Yuen. It is a cozy and cute place. Very homey vibe, almost feels like you are literally in the comfort of your home. Maggie is very nice. I went to get my nails done a couple of times specifically UV gel. She did do a really great job shaping them, but the fill ins were the same price as getting a full set. Overall I stopped going after my third visit because she cut me a few times and the health of my nails deteriorated. It took about two months until they were nice and healthy again. Maybe it was the type of gel I was getting but who knows. She is very loved in the neighborhood so It is worth a trip if you know exactly what you want to do and you have had the service before. Moreover, I was perplexed why the nails specialist asked some intrusive questions. There are two reasons why I gave them 2 stars. She didn't give me a hard time when I smeared two nails by accident. Hands down best place. It may not look like much from the outside but the real Maggie works there and owns the shop. She works so hard and know all her regulars phone numbers by heart. When it's slow she'll call you and tell you to pop in. I read about all the great reviews and it was definitely worth the hype. I have pretty thick hair and the waxing is painless and super clean which Maggie always do it ( it took me 6 month to find this place after trying bunch of other spas in our neighborhood). With no doubt I can say it is the best in the neighborhood. Every once in a while Maggie gives me complementary eyebrow waxing. For mani and pedi either Maggie or the other person do it with patience ( I have pretty short nail so it's pain in the ass for the person who is doing it) and precision. I don't usually write reviews and understand people Have different tastes. But trying some other places in neighborhood this is the only one I recommend for waxing and mani pedi. I've been here before for manicures and decided to go over the weekend on a whim while visiting family. Everything seemed good when I got there. When I sat down, the technician looked at my nails to cut them and I said I know they're short but you can file them. She threw the file and clippers aside and proceeded on the next step. I have never been to a nail salon where they don't even file them to a nice shape. Then she hurt me when she was doing my cuticles. And then when she went to paint them she skipped the base coat saying I didn't need it. The got nail polish all over my fingers and had to use her nail to keep fixing it. The edges got weird and I can see remnants of the dark polish I had on the week before. She left one nail all streaky. The massage was 5 seconds where she rubbed lotion into my hand. I paid $15 because it was the weekly polish and I didn't even get a proper manicure. To top it all off, there was a rude client arguing with Maggie, the owner. She left and Maggie kept talking about her. Everyone agreed that the client was wrong, but let it go. She was starting to make herself look bad by how she couldn't let it go I will not be coming back here and stick with my usual place in park slope. read more

I went back against my better judgment as I am 95% sure I got a toenail fungus from this place a year ago (there is nowhere else I could've gotten it from). I noticed the toenail issue after taking off nail polish that they had put on (by the time I took off the polish the fungus was covering half my toe). I've been going to a podiatrist for the entire year and have to use medication on it twice a day and it's still not gone. I went back recently for the first time because I was giving them the benefit of the doubt that it was a one off thing. I got a manicure and she cut my cuticle and it was bleeding. Now it's all red and I have to keep it bandaged with neosporin. Hoping it doesn't get worse. Also realized that if they've cut other peoples hands their blood would be on the tools (like mine). Who knows how well they really are cleaned. So gross. Will never be back. read more

I've been going solely to a place on 5th ave for regular gel mani's but recently started getting SNS done and my place on 5th doesn't do SNS. I actually live probably less than a 5min walk from Maggie's but have never been. In my hunt for a salon that does SNS I realized that Maggie's does it! I went in mid day on a Friday and they were super busy, she asked me to come back at 5:30 - so I did. Maggie began immediately. It is definitely not the most modern place but my nails look great!! Maggie was also so friendly. My only complaint is the price: $54 for an SNS mani and they don't give the mini massages that most places give. The employees are nice, the atmosphere is relaxing, and the prices are decent, but 3 stars for the quality of my manicure - it doesn't go down to the cuticle and also the polish is jagged/not straight. Had a really disappointing experience here. Five minutes before my appointment time, they called me several times in a row and asked where I was and if I was coming. I told them I was on my way and would be there in ten minutes. About 8 minutes later they again called me repeatedly (I was less than 10 minutes late, and it was a weekday morning, definitely not a busy time). Once there, I was disappointed by the small number of nail colors (both gel manicure and regular pedicure). I then got my eyebrows and lip threaded, and although she did a good job shaping them, when I got home I realized there was a ton of hair that she didn't get. It really felt like a waste of my time and $90. I could've and should've done all of this at home myself. I'm not one to complain, especially about something as frivolous as nails, but the whole thing was really chaotic and aggressive. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Walked into a bright, cheerful location. Lots of light cascading into the room, and calling music in the background. Greetings given by the nice lady who answered the phone and lets us make an appointment on short notice today. Great price - $30 for regular mani-pedi. Spa versions were tempting and I am sure a bit longwr but not necessary.
