I had a great time spending my last day in St Thomas at Magens Bay. The water was super clear and clean. I'm petite and I was able to stand up pretty far into the waters. Little and medium size fishes would swim around you. If you go further out, you can see turtles too. If you like the scene, you can stay closer to the life guards and bar. If you prefer it more peaceful, you can stay further to the left where many of the locals stay. I have been to this place three times and I still want to go back. For the adventure seeker, for the explorer, for the wanderer, this place rocks! The beach has soft white sand, clear calm blue waters, majestic views, privacy and a bar that rocks with waitresses in bikinis! I lay on the beach and look out between the two cliffs and see a lone rock island about 2miles away, close my eyes and picture myself swimming to the island just like Leonardo DiCaprio did in "The Beach". If you go by cruise ship walk the few blocks out of the port and score your own ride for $8 each plus $4 for the park entrance fee. It's a must visit time n time again. read more

Incredible beach. The sand, the water, the gently lapping waves... perfect place to really soak in the natural beach beauty of St Thomas. Getting here from the cruise ship was an adventure... the harrowing drive through twisty island mountains had me gripping my seat from time to time. But the giant people mover taxi arrived fine, and we piled off. Bring cash- to pay for the taxi as well as the entrance fee. Bathrooms are plentiful and totally clean- much cleaner than any beach bathrooms I've been to in California. The beach lounger rentals are worth it- at $5 refundable deposit and $5 all day rental, with a cash tip the beach chair fellows will drag it anywhere you want down that long expanse of beach. The local restaurant is sketchy for those of us with discerning palates. If you like beer and greasy burgers, it's your place. But not a vegetable or fruit in sight! We ended up with a pineapple juice and veggie burger with fries... The veggie burger and fries were great, the pineapple juice was small and tasted like it came from a can. If I went back, I would bring a cooler of waters, juices, fruits and veggies to snack on. \ Lots of little beach venders rent Stand-up Paddle Boards and kayaks. read more

Megan's Bay was a real treat to visit. Beautiful waters, white sandy beach and a true tropical oasis. The employees however were so rude they ruined an otherwise perfect day. As soon as you arrive you have to deal with the Pitt bull that runs the souvenir shop. You have no choice unless you bring your own chair. We figured oh well we won't let that ruin our day. We left the shop and proceeded to see the beach chair attendant. Oh boy that was another rude encounter. They guy made sure we knew that the rental did not include the "delivery" of the chairs and if we wanted assistance taking the chairs out and the umbrella propped up we had to offer a "generous tip". Now when you're son vacation you generally expect to have to tip for services like this but the man was an ass and was rude not only to us. All of the beach goers found ourselves talking about how rude this dude was. Carried out own beach chairs, dug our own whole and planted our own chair in the ground. What a shame. Such a beautiful place and it's ruined by the poor attitude and just plain rude people who obviously don't appreciate their job. Of course I'll visit Megan's Bay again if I'm ever back in St Thomas because it's just that beautiful. I'll bring my own damn chair and my own cooler and avoid dealing with these jerks. read more

This was my birthday so it was only right for me to spend my day at Magens Bay. This was truly an amazing beach. Crystal Clear was and not overly salty water. The locals were there giving their insight on the islands and we were glad to get a little history on the beach. I definitely have to return again! I just pray the islanders are safe and well during this hurricane season. read more

WARNING ALERT! ALERT! ALERT! If you are staying at Magens Resort do not let them (or the annoying skinny tourists) convince you this place is within walking distance. It isn't. We fell victim to the lies and proceeded to march down the hill of doom. I was sweating like a fool and miserable. When we arrived, we weren't disappointed.... but we weren't impressed. The view is nice though of the hills, but other then that Magens Bay is OK. I did find the little fishes in water funny. read more

Now, I'm a bit of a beach snob, so keep that in mind. Magens Bay is worth a visit if you're in St Thomas. How you get there will affect how much you'll enjoy your trip. I'd suggest that you just get a random bus from the port to here. Seriously once you there there, they will be a truck/bus leaving back to the ports every 5 mins. There's not much at Magens Bay but beautiful views, sugary sand, and a lovely snack bar (that had surprisingly reasonable prices). I almost forgot they charge you admission to get in here. It's a nice beach, but for $4/pop there are just as nice places in FL. Obviously, $4 is nothing when it comes to your vacation... Go to Magens Bay, bring a lunch or eat at the snackbar. Have fun watching the Canadians get in the 68 degree water in Feb :) I can't say I blame them given the circumstances, eh? read more

Stunningly beautiful. I grew up near the coast in Florida before living in Southern California so I'm no stranger to beaches but Magen's bay blows them out of the water [pun unintended]. Managed to visit before the Cruise ship crowd so the beach was nearly empty and as beautiful as can be. Worth the $4 without a doubt, and I've never paid to access a beach before. Also: though I thoroughly enjoyed the taxi ride back down, It's basically a roller coaster with no guard rails so I don't recommend it for the faint of heart! read more

At $4 admission, this is a cheap beach only about 30 minutes away from anywhere on the island. This beach is quite crowded: make sure to move further away from the center for less congested seating. You can rent chairs and snorkle gear and floats at a stand, and there's also a bar and a restaurant. The water is blue and you can see fish in the water, lots of birds flying around (such as pelicans) and little lizards. The palm trees give it that real caribbean feeling. read more

Absolutely beautiful! The water is clean and clear. It was somewhat crowded with the cruise ship crowd, but not super-crowded like Ocean City, MD where you're vying for space on the beach. There is a small charge to enter ($4 per adult plus $2 if you're driving). You can rent chairs, snorkel equipment, and kayaks. There was also a concession stand. The fries smelled good! The ladies bathroom/changing room was clean and hubs said the men's bathroom/changing area was likewise. Ladies, there were a group of (male) taxi drivers standing around conveniently and the picnic table where women were going in and out of the bathroom. I didn't witness anything inappropriate, but please believe they're checking you out. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area! read more

Not sure what the big deal was coming here to Magens Bay. It is supposed to be one of the top 10 beaches in the world. Maybe top 20. Or maybe the visitors came from lowa or something on their cruise, and this popular St Thomas beach was probably their first beach encounter. The water was super salty. You need goggles if you plan on looking for stuff underwater. The water was clear though. Even without goggles, you can see some fish here and there from above the water. You should still come out here if you have several hours to spend in St Thomas. It's $8 cab ride one way from the cruise ship. Then it's $4 per person to actually enter the beach. Kids are free. They do sell alcohol here and I guess they are pretty lenient about drinking in the water since lots of people were doing it. So relax here if you have a couple of hours to spend. read more

If your looking for a great beach on the island to grab a slice of homemade pizza and your favorite island drink then this is the place for you! I'd heard that Magen's Bay was one of the top twenty beaches which really excited me because I love beaches more than anything. After stopping here on a cruise excursion, I would have to agree. I've only been to California/Hawaii/Caribbean beaches but I definitely think this one rates at the top. It was a bit crowded when we were there, but not so much to the point where you couldn't easily find a spot. In fact, if you walk further down the beach it's practically deserted and you can even feel like you are alone down there. The water is calm and perfect for children, as well as stunningly clear. The sand is soft. I only got a drink from the restaurant and that was good but it was busy there. I know there was an admission price to get in and to park but I believe it was reasonable for the slice of paradise you get to see and experience. read more

I'm really not sure how this popped up as a review I need to complete, but I have been there so.... I lived in St, Thomas from 2005-2006. Magen's Bay is on the northeast side of the island. If you are on a cruise excursion, ask your cab driver to take you to Magen's Bay. it will take you about 20 minutes to get there, but that really depends on trafic and the number of crusie ships docked at the time. There's a bar/restaurant and changing rooms. The beach can get very crowded depending on how many cruise ships are docked at the time, but that's why I liked to go there sometimes. If I wanted quiet and solitude, I'dd find a different beach. But having lots of people around can be a good thing when you are alone and want to feel more safe and secure with people around. read more

I loved Magens Bay! Why? The sand is super incredibly soft, especially in the water. You walk into the ocean and feel like you're walking on a soft but supportive mattress. It's awesome. There are no aggressive locals selling crap, but there _are_ a couple drink waitresses for the snack bar on the beach. It's much more convenient than annoying. It's a public beach. The only nuisance I found was the loud engagement party that was being held in the on-beach party space. The music was a bit distracting. Anyway, the scenery is gorgeous, the water is a beautiful turquoise, and the sand is perfect - it's hard to ask for much more. They even have a small boat rental operation. I highly highly recommend Magens Bay. read more

I attended a birthday party at Magens Bay this past Sunday. The beach was beautiful. Clean and family friendly. The sand, the sea, the air, the people (locals and visitors) -- everything was lovely. Our group rented Shelter #1 for the party. There were several picnic tables, several benches, and a long high tabletop set up as well. We used the high tabletop for our buffet and the picnic tables for eating. We also had music (an iPod and speakers) that we set up on the area closer to the parking lot. There was also a grill out in the sand to the side of the shelter, which we made good use of. I saw a few mongeese running about on the parking lot fringe of the wooded area across from the beach. One tried to climb into the undercarriage of a parked car and I screamed and shooed it off. (Ewwwww.) A guy swimming near shore found a starfish and held it up for everyone to eyeball. I'd never seen one in person. It was bigger than I imagined and pretty. There is a per-person entry fee as well as a parking fee. For those who drink alcohol, there is a bar with waitress service right on the beach. (We noticed her walking back and forth with cups.) I think there is a place to buy food as well but we had our own so we didn't buy any. read more

Small admission to get in ($4), but there's ample parking available, chairs and large umbrellas for rent, and I believe there were rentable pavilions for parties and events. Lifeguard on duty and a The sight of the beach is just mesmerizing. The clearest water, softest sand, prettiest blue sky, other islands in the distance. I'm still dreaming about this place. It got a lot busier as the day went on (probably due to the cruise ship that disembarked there that day), so go early to stake your claim! Friends of mine who were snorkeling saw lots of cool underwater life too--so bring your snorkel and mask. read more

The water is clear, blue, and calm, like a postcard. Our only complaint is that someone that had rented a pavilion had a big speaker blaring music, disturbing the entire beach. We were told there was a noise ordinance there, but nobody did anything about it, including the 2 security guards that came by to ask us to move our car so vendors could set up for an event happening the next day. How can anyone give Magens bay anything but 5 stars? God made it and it is beautiful beyond words that any human can describe. I go there to just float and get some cardio swimming in every chance I get. I do wish the people in charge of the park area would put some kind of work out area with a pull up bar and that sort of thing there. I'm sort of a fitness nut and that would be so super cool I would love that. Anyway... I have been going for close to 30 years and can't remember a day that even with mega cruise ship traffic I felt like it was too much. The people watching gets better then :) yes some not so nice to see in less that a burka but what can you do :) It's almost an essential pilgrimage to go when on St Thomas. read more

with all the rave reviews, we ventured into the area enduring tight corners, crazy taxis and the fee to get in. what a big disapointment. we were glad to pay the entrance fee since it will be used to maintain the facility but the restrooms were in not so good condition, shower was not desalinized, amenity (benches) far fewer. If I was local wanting to do bbq, none sited. yes, there is bar, restaurant and rental places on site. since most of the bars around STT is priced pretty high, it was ok but pizza was $35 (appears to be large size). outragious. $3 for small bottled water. I could have gotten that at the hotel with cleaner surrounding. . beaches.. its just plain looking sandy beach. nothing to write home about. any of the beach around STT will be about the same. Maybe people are amazed at the mile long?g I wouldn't waste my precious time coming here. Now, I need to serioulsy consider about other top beaches at STT and also SJ. If they are about the same as Magens Bay, forget it! read more

Beautiful beach/ park that has been mostly restored post hurricanes. Calm turquoise waters with stunning views. Crazy side story, my sister lost her VERY expensive wedding rings in the sand and didn't realize it until hours after we had left. Returning immediately to search but with a pessimistic outlook she was pleasantly surprised at everyone's springing to action to help. Pounds of sand were strained and sifted, other patrons even jumped in to help and can you believe the rings were recovered?! Have visited beach 3 times and this will be my last. $8.00 per person, each way, to travel there from hotel which was 2.7 Miles away. $5.00 per person to get in. $8.00 per chair rental with a $5.00 deposit per chair if you don't bring the chair back to the rental desk as if your going to steal them and bring them back to your hotel. $9.50 per drink. Bring your wallet if your going to this beach. Water is nice but not worth the trip. read more

Beautiful beach! We came last Friday ( 6 Mar 2015 ). It was one of the most spectacular moments, small crowd, perfect weather, perfect water temp. We decided to return Tue before leaving for home. Everything was nice, some Cruiseship goers but the real rain on our parade was the loud music. Apparently you are can have a DJ style set up and play as loud as you want. We complained to the park authority. The music was turned down....for awhile and then right back up. This is a national park that all should be able to enjoy, be considerate!! read more

Beautiful beach but St Thomas taxi system is expensive and per person. When you get there additional charge to enter the beach. I don't see anything offered for the entry fee. Showers are poorly working and just pump sea water, everything is for rent beach loungers and way too many people on this beach.
