Definitely recommend coming here if you are in St Thomas on a cruise. It's a beautiful white sand beach with lush green cliffs on both sides. There are plenty of facilities, food, and a bar. This is a great place to relax as there are not many activities. Some negatives, the food was ridiculously pricey even for tourist trap standards and they charged $40 for 2 chairs which is more then most carribean tourist beaches. Next time I will walk to the quieter side and find a bench or put down a towel, mostly everyone stays around the bar area
Really enjoyed our time at Magens bay. I only got a view from far away, and then none while we were actually on the beach or in the water. But we snorkled there. Lots of fish and sea turtles. A lot of people on the beach and the umbrellas and chairs were sold out but we still enjoyed the water and views.
I love this beach its always picture perfect. You don't have to shell out $30 for a chair & umbrella but that's how much it costs along with $7 entry per person. They have a bar and food that's pretty dang good. I tried the Salmon sandwich it was delicious. They have 2 bathrooms and a changing area if you need it and taxis that come through often.
Listed as a world renowned beach and I can understand why... after going thru the heck jn station where you pay for entry. It was $16 for the two of us. Parking was ample even though the beach seemed busy. We get our gear and walk the short path to feet to the beach and it's one of those moments where you wonder why you live anywhere else but here in Saint Thomas. It's just so pretty. The white sands and clear blue waters you read about are pretty much all true. Albeit the water wasn't that clear but it sure was pretty. Beauty of this beach is that there is really no drop off to worry about. The water is somewhat shallow for a good amount of distance out. I didn't see any fish but the beach was kind of crowded so maybe they like their space like myself? Bathrooms were big and clean, the folks working here are super nice even though the busy. As noted, there is a bar that you can eat/drink at. We had packed our snacks and water so didn't even adventure that way. The have taxi services right at the entry to parking so getting back to port would have been easy if we didn't have our rental car. Would i go back here? Maybe. If I had a choice of here or Lindholz? Depends? Do i need a bar/eatery? People watching? Shallow warmer waters? I'd go here. If I wanted deeper waters, waves, pack my own food/drink. Seeing more fish right off the beach. That's Lindholz beach. It's all about perspective. Either way, you get to have your feet in the sand and sun warming you up. What else could you ask for. Enjoy the adventure.
Magens Bay is probably the best known beach in St Thomas. This is for good reason. You'll find a very long expanse of sandy beach. It will take you a long time to walk from one end to the other. Most of the time, the water is crystal clear with minimal waves (if any). It's the type of beach where you can chill out in the water and swim as if you're in a natural swimming pool. The beach also has a restaurant, bar, gift shop, changing rooms, rinse showers, and bathrooms. These are all adequate if you're here for a day. But, the food is a bit pricey. Be prepared to pay a small admission fee to enter the beach. This fee is used to maintain the beach/fqcility. Overall: recommended. Even locals often pick this beach out of all the choices here. Tip: If there's a lot of cruise ships, maybe think twice about Magens if you don't like crowds. Otherwise, go for it. It's best when there's few ships or none!
Beautiful beach! The water looks beautiful! They have an option to rent a beach chair & umbrella for $20. We setup under a tree and it was perfect for us. There is a bar and take-out restaurant. This beach is amongst the top 10 beaches of the world and it's a must-see if you are in the area. We came in a cruise and purchased a shopping/beach and sightseeing of historical landmarks excursion for $64.99 - totally worth it.
This is one of our favorite beaches in St. Thomas. It has a beautiful white sand beach that is spacious enough to provide seating for large crowds, along with crystal blue waters. We usually attend on days when cruise ships are not in, which makes it nice and peaceful without crowds. The shallow sandy beach does not require water shoes, as there are few rocks or coral in the wading areas. They have public bathrooms, a gift shop, and a place to get drinks and food. We had plenty of space to lay towels out in the shade of the nearby trees, but they also provide seats and umbrellas for a charge. Also, there is a charge for adults visiting the beach plus they charge for parking. I think our party of 5 with parking was around $40. For those who think the snorkeling is not great, I think they may have missed where the action is. I'd recommend walking to the end of the beach on the northern part and swim along the rocky coastline to see some great aquatic life. The south rocky coastline also has good snorkeling. The sandy beaches make the visibility not the best at times, but we saw some turtles and a good variety of fish. Definitely worth the visit next time you're in St. Thomas!
Great but with some frustrations During our cruise stop in April 2025, my family visited Magens Bay Beach. Soft sand, crystal-clear warm water, picturesque views, and even some snorkeling opportunities on the right edge make it an excellent destination for anyone looking for a great beach in St. Thomas. The right side of the beach (facing the sea) was packed with people, umbrellas, and loungers. This is where taxis drop off passengers, and getting a lounger there was a frustration. $40 gets you either an umbrella with two loungers or just two loungers, but the rental process was very slow and inefficient. Each person had to wait while an attendant searched for available umbrellas with no guarantee he would find one by the time it was finally your turn. After 30 minutes in line, we were told no umbrellas were left. Couldn't they have told us earlier? Ultimately, we settled for loungers at the very back, near the road where taxis pull in. There was a food and drinks shack on this side of the beach, but it had 20+ min wait times. Losing precious beach time just to grab a few drinks felt quite frustrating. More bartenders or additional drink/food stations could easily solve this and make the Magens Bay Beach experience more enjoyable. The left side of the beach (facing the sea), however, was peaceful, quiet, and spacious, with natural shade from the trees. It had picnic tables, but no loungers, umbrellas, or food/drink vendors (why not open one?). I wish we'd known about this contrast in advance - we would've opted for left side. If you can skip a lounger, use natural shade, and don't mind taking a walk for food and drinks, I'd highly recommend to stay on the left side of the beach for better experience.
This is one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever been to. There is an entrance fee of $7 and you can rent chairs and umbrellas ($40 for two chairs sharing an umbrella). Food and drinks are available at a restaurant and bar ( a little pricey though). The bathrooms ( one on each end of the beach) are clean. Unlike other Carribean beaches, no one hassles you to buy anything. This beach is definitely worth a visit if you ever find yourself in St Thomas.
Gorgeous soft sand beach on the north side of the island of St Thomas, US Virgin Islands. We took a shuttle from the cruise port costing $15 one-way per person. It now costs $7 for non-locals for entry ($2 if local). Since it's a paid beach, most people were tourists coming from the boats, all various ages. The beach runs from Southwest to Northeast at the end of Magens Bay, and the waves are very gentle throughout. It is not particularly wide or deep, so it's an easy walk to get from the parking lot to the water's edge. We got dropped off at the NE end and I took a long beach walk to the other end (taking about 25 minutes). The beach is kept very clean, has good permanent facilities, and saw plenty of lifeguard stations, most of them being manned. They rent chairs and umbrellas from the building located in the middle, which also houses a beach restaurant. I can see how the beach can get really crowded, with the great sand, warm water, and good facilities.

gorgeous soft sugar white sand beach. shallow with patches of sea grass. plenty of itty bitty schools of baby fish and i saw a small ray smoozing at the bottom with a remora hitching a ride on it. best time to come is morning before it gets crowded. By the time 3pm came around we ended up leaving because it was just toooooo crowded for us! t The food wait can be up to 45min during peak times so we ended up not ordering. read more

Wins my vote for "Picturesque beach" and the best place for a delish painkiller. This u shaped beach is wonderful for that stroll in along the shore. We came late in the afternoon after a majority of cruise ship people have left. Find a spot towards the either side of the beach for some space. This beach is overrated with this reputation of being one of the top ten beaches and charging $4 admission/per person. The scenery is beautiful. The sand is great but was not crazy about in the water. Great to have wait service on the beach but paid the high price of two delish painkillers for 15.50. There nothing like enjoying view while sipping a painkiller. read more

This is one of my favorite beaches that I have ever been too. There is a small charge per person to enter, I think it was about $4, and it is well worth it. The water is clear blue, the sand is a perfect texture and the temperature is absolutely wonderful. Seat rentals are available for a small fee, around $7, which I highly recommend. There is a small little food spot and bar to get your food and drink on. We loved the pina coladas, they were only around $8, and had a great flavor and a lot of alcohol. There is even a waitress that walks up and down the beach taking orders. The food leaves something to be desired, but it is fast food style, so one can't be too picky. The beach was never too crowded the three times we came, and everyone we encountered was friendly. If you come to St. Thomas this is a definite spot to hit up! read more

Magens bay was one of the best beaches we went to on our stay in st Thomas. The beach was beautiful, not over crowded, and had plenty of space. There was a shack that you could rent kayaks or sups that was reasonably priced. One of the days we went there was plenty of turtles to see while snorkeling. We also saw a jelly fish while paddle boarding. The food was fine for what it was and if your interested the rent out chairs and umbrellas and serve you drinks on the beach. We didn't do that while we were there so I can't speak to price but seems like a nice option if you're interested. read more

Beautiful bay! My favorite was the diving seagulls. The beach has full facilities and is clean. If you are interested in snorkeling though, you should make your way over to st john where the beaches are much nicer. I would def come back. read more

I visited Magen's Bay on April 2, 2011 without knowing much about it other than the usual 'Top 10 Beaches on the Planet' spiel you hear around the island. I was wary at first, thinking it would be tourist bait, overcrowded, chintzy, so on and so forth. I was pleasantly surprised when we arrived. It's a public beach with a better than average bar, food, waitresses, beach chairs for rent, decent restrooms, picnic tables, and one helluva beach view. The weather was perfect and it wasn't too crowded given all the hoopla. It lived up to a lot of hype and I would recommend visiting to anyone. We took the $10 shuttle ride from the city proper. The price of the shuttle was the low point of the outing, being used to taking public buses on other islands around the Caribbean. From the point we started climbing the hills separating the city from Magen's Bay, I was having a good time. The hillside view is spectacular, looking back over the coast and city. The bus drops you off right on the beach and its sand-tastic from then on. The beach can't be more than a 1/2 mile in length and everything is right there, easily accessible. The bar is good not great. The drinks are a little more expensive than I would like, but to be expected. It's a typical beach bar with a couple old hands behind the bar (as in experienced, not physically decrepit), most libations you could want, food next door, and everything is made of wood planks. Doesn't get much better than this when you're sunning yourself on a public beach. If you're skeptical, worry not. It's hard to go wrong in Magen's. We spent the whole day there. We walked on the beach, drank on the beach, ate on the beach, swam, and napped in the sun. All in that order. 30 minutes be damned. It was great and I will be going back someday. read more

Absolutely the luckiest girl in the world to be @ Magen's Bay Beach! Words cannot describe the beauty of this beach. Crystal blue waters, calm water, clean & white sand between toe's. It does get pack when there's ton of cruise ships out but that's wasn't the problem for us. $5 to get into beach. But $5 is most def a good investment for a life long forever memory. $8 taxi ride to get here. Only way to get here is by taxi. The beach is calm & quiet. They have towels, lounge chairs, floating rafts & more the rent from them. Restrooms are clean & stocked w/toilet paper. Must check out the bar cafe, with pizza, sandwiches, veggies burgers, salads, soda, juice & more. Bar to the side. One of the top 5 beaches in the world!!!!!!!!!!! One is Magen's Bay Beach! read more

This has to be one of the best places in the world. I can say that I have been on beaches that have better sand. With that said, the sand is really not bad.. just not the best. The water is clear, blue, refreshing, and full of wildlife. We saw lots of fish, and best of all, birds dive-bombing the water picking out their lunch. There is a bar with limited food on one side of the beach. Since we brought our own food and drinks, we did not partake. Parking is $2.00 and admission is $4.00/person. Rumor has it, it's free after 5:00PM. read more

Great place to visit. The bay was absolutely calm and like glass. Additionally it had crystal clear water. We were able to play in the water all afternoon. There was a waitress who made the rounds taking drink orders and even delivered out in the sea!!!! Pizza at the restaurant was delicious!!!! It costs $5 per person plus $2 to park, unless you're a US Veteran, then you get the parking fee waived. I recommend this beach as we had a fantastic time!!!! read more

Rated one of the worlds most beautiful beaches for good reason. Here is a pro tip, look up the cruise ship schedule for St Thomas and go one a day there are no boats so instead of being surrounded by 100's of people, you will find your own piece of bliss in this bay. This is a perfect location for children as you can walk out pretty far with the water and wading depth and there are no waves since it is a bay. St Thomas is beautiful and this is a must see location. read more

Magen's bay is by far one of the best beaches I been to. The water is crystal clear, clean and the perfect temperature. The $5 to get in for non residents is well with it. They definitely take care of this beach because it is not dirty or polluted. If you stick to the far left or right of the beach you get a more private feel as not a lot of people tend to congregate on those sides. If u are hungry they have one food shack on the beach that has a lot of food options and alcoholic drinks. If in St. Thomas do yourself and come to Megan's bay. read more

We arrived at 2pm on a Wednesday and it was crowded, I'm guessing from cruise ship passengers. But by 330pm it felt almost deserted. To our surprise and delight there was a beautiful cocktail waitress making rounds and she showed up even before we had the chance to set up our spot on the sand! We ordered a rum punch (more rum than punch) for only $6. It was yummy and she returned with our drink way faster than expected, considering how crowded it was initially :) There's great parking available, bathroom/ shower facilities, concession stand, everything! It was $5 per person and $2 for parking (cash, make sure you have cash ) the fee is well worth it. Everything is super clean and there are clean facilities. It's like a park! We love to snorkel, but this place is more for enjoying the views, calm waters, and taking it all in. Leave your snorkles on the beach, take your floats out and goggles. Breath deeply, relax. I need to stop writing this review and get back to this amazing situation. Come here, you must. read more

The water in this bay is so calm that I felt like I was swimming in a lake at times. The snorkeling is not great, and there are some sharp rocks and a little trash in the water that I didn't notice until I started digging in the sand. If you can get past those limitations, Magen's Bay offers one of the most beautiful views of all the beaches on St. Thomas, and its very subtle waves invite you to relax. read more
