Normally wouldn't leave a bad review over a haircut but this was a complete shit show:…read more Barber cut off well over an inch up top after I said I only wanted a half inch trim. He barely cut my sides even, though I showed him a photo of the burst skin fade I wanted and specifically said to use scissors, so now I had a weird bob look with my side and top almost being the same length. Had to stop him and say because he cut it too short I'd prefer he just do a mid skin fade to salvage it, he says he'll take care of it but then just uses the clippers to shave it down, not even doing what I asked for a second time. I pulled my phone out and looked up photos of what I was talking about but he just ignored me. Finished up and noticed he didn't even cut both sides evenly. I tried to show him, using my fingers to hold up my hair length so he can see how obviously the lengths were different, but he just walked to the register to ring me up. I just stayed quiet, paid and gave him his tip so I could leave and calm down. If you see a guy with an apron-vest combo packing all his things, highly suggest asking for someone else.

His studio is in a shared working space with other hair and makeup studios - very cool concept. But his studio feels very private, I loved this aspect - its not like most salons where other people are waiting and watching you get your haircut. Nice setup! I went for the 45 min haircut experience, most of the other places I've been have been 20-30 min. He really took his time to understand the type of cut I wanted and the length, we started a bit longer so I could see if thats what I wanted first. He used various techniques which was fun to watch, you can tell this guy enjoys his craft. He is super friendly, easy to talk to but not overbearing. My cut came out great and I'd never had a straight razor to clean up the lines before. I will definitely go back, I think for the price - he went above and beyond my expectations. Definitely check this guy out if you are looking for a great cut.

While my haircut was good, not great or bad, just good, the price and experience was just okay. I…read morethink the price is a bit too high for a basic haircut, though the straight razor at the end was a nice touch. The only reason why I am giving him 3 stars is because he was not on time for our appointment (I was the first slot of the day) and showed up almost 30 minutes later. Had I not gone into Home Goods to shop with my gf, I would've just gone home and wouldn't have bothered coming back. If I am going to pay $40+tip for a haircut by appointment only, the least that could be done is arriving on time for said appointment.

Federal Hairstylists inside the Stamford Marriott is the real deal. It's an old-school barbershop…read morewith exceptional attention to detail and some of the best value I've found for a men's haircut in Stamford. I've tried several barbershops in Stamford and plenty more around New Canaan, Darien, and Greenwich. A lot of places now focus on a spa-like experience with a premium price tag. There's nothing wrong with that, but Federal reminded me how much the actual barber makes the difference. Walking in feels like stepping into a time capsule, in the best possible way. What impressed me most was the conversation with Denis before the haircut. I'm usually someone who gives very little direction, and that often gets me a fairly generic cut. Denis took the time to ask thoughtful questions about what I wanted, discuss scissors versus clippers, and help me understand the style I actually preferred. He didn't just work with the limited instructions I gave him. He helped me figure out what to ask for. That alone set this visit apart. The attention to detail carried through the entire appointment. They washed my hair, gave me an excellent haircut, and styled it before I left. The result looked great, and the value was outstanding. The atmosphere is just as memorable. Tony and his son give the shop a genuine neighborhood feel. The customers around me seemed like they'd been coming here for years, and you quickly feel less like a first-time visitor and more like one of the regulars. After experiencing the care they put into a haircut, I understand that loyalty. Another huge advantage is the early opening. Being able to get a haircut at 7 a.m. makes such a difference when you need to get to work or look sharp for a meeting. The location is especially convenient for anyone staying at the Marriott for a conference or business trip. One helpful tip: the shop is inside the Marriott at 243 Tresser Boulevard. Go through the hotel entrance and head upstairs to find it. It's easy to miss from outside, but absolutely worth seeking out. For a genuinely personalized haircut, old-school barbershop atmosphere, and excellent value in downtown Stamford, I couldn't recommend Federal more highly. Ask for Denis. His attention to detail and the care he put into understanding what I wanted made all the difference. This is the kind of place you're glad you finally found.

I had done a few looks around on Yelp as well as asking a friend of mine who used to live in Stamford as to where to go for a guy's haircut for my boyfriend, Lee. All signs seemed to point to these guys, so we decided to head over and check them out. It's really nice that for us, it's only a 10 minute walk from our apartment to the Marriott. There is also parking in the hotel parking lot. This place is a traditional barber shop, catering to guys. It was pretty packed, with almost standing-room seating, but there were 3 guys working the chairs that day, so things were going pretty fast. There were quite a few dads taking their sons in to get both of their hairs cut. It didn't take long before Lee was in the chair, and was getting a nice, professional cut. The guy waiting on him was really friendly to me as well, gesturing over to the free coffee and donuts that were on offer. When the cut was done, he asked me if I thought it was OK before he asked Lee, which I found amusing. Lee is still really happy with his cut, and has definitely found his new favorite place! I appreciated that they were friendly to me as well, and the price was good, although it is cash only.
