The fairy gods and Yelp angels must have been wanting me to look and feel my swanky best for directing me to Maestro Tailors! When the tailor recommended by the retail store from which I purchased my evening dress was closed, Yelp came to the rescue and maestro tailors showed up on my search list. A quick call and I had an appointment to come in for my dress alterations 2 days later. Anastasia who manages this store front made sure I was going to bring the shoes and the undergarments I was going to wear with the dress. The store is located in tower city so parking is painful and not easily available. Once in the store...that's when the magic starts. I had come to the store only wanting the length altered...but Mark is a true Maestro! One look at me in the dress and he made suggestions with regards to better tailoring, showing me how the different options would look. I have never had an outfit tailored to me before & Mark left me wondering "why had I not?". I left the store feeling reassured that my dress would be perfection... that's the vibe Mark gives! He is through, professional and truly a Maestro at his profession! 3 weeks later... I tried out my dress and it fit like a glove! I had two skirts that I wanted hemmed, but I knew the material and style of the skirt would make a hemming more complicated than usual. The Tailor (Mark) did a beautiful job. I asked if I could have the skirts rushed, as I had a vacation coming up, and he was happy to do that --no problem. I'm guessing Mark usually works on much nicer and more complicated garments, but he treated my skirts as if they were the of same value and importance. This place is more expensive than taking your clothing to a generic dry cleaner for alterations, but it was absolutely worth it. I was confident that my clothes were in good hands. What better time to write a review than when you are sitting in the back because you came in a nervous wreck stressed out before a meeting thinking your jacket was wonky. Yep, that's me, stressed out of my wits convinced my jacket is off kilter like my mind, sitting here in the back without my pants! What better way to kill time than leave a review right? So here we go.. This is not the first time I've been here. I've been here almost once a week talking to Mark about something or the other getting to know him better because picking a tailor is an important decision. After half a dozen impromptu trips and several hours of talking about fabrics and cuts I decided to give the place a try. Round 1: My first jacket I brought in was for an alteration. It was a long coat I had sentimental value for and having moved here from. Phoenix I had not worn it in over ten years. No change was needed but I did not know any better. Mark sent me back saying not to ruin a perfectly fitting jacket. I was impressed; I know a few folks would have just done whatever and took me to the cleaners since I wouldn't have known better. Round 2 : Another gift, but this was definitely a poorly fitting jacket. I mean I could hide anothet human in there and there'd be room for more. Sure it's a little hyperbole, but you get the point. I really wish I took a before and after picture because he fixed it so well I would almost think it was made to measure. I, was very impressed and left speechless. As you can see I have no shortage of words and pretty much never do. Round 3: Another 4 jackets needed minor/moderate alterations and not only were they done right but they were done right the first time and on time. In all fairness they were probably done ahead of time but let's not belabor the point. Round 4: Ah today! I have a meeting in an hour and am close to a nervous wreck as I can be. I'm convinced one side of my suit is longer than the other. I text Anastasia who calms me down, (I was straight rambling) and accommodates my impromptu needs. Mark not only calms me down some more and points out I just needed the suit pressed but also notices my pants are a tad bit too long and gets them hemmed. Total time 15 minutes. Damn son, talk about doing right by your customers. I still have a suit waiting to be stitched here and will update this then but Mark is the man. If you need a tailor who understands you, takes pride in your appearance as a testament of his work, will accommodate your requests and not hesitate to tell you when you are nuts this is the place to go. I have seen many a customer leave here happy as they can be. Most of them are just floored on what he creates for them, men and women alike. So Cleveland, here's your tailor if you need one. It needed at least 6 distinct adjustments. Mark performed magic on it and brought the suit back to life. I have been going here for years. Beware prices sky rocketed. My bill doubled. There was no communication or posting of price changes. Customer service did nothing to rectify it. They made excuses and said "everyone's prices are going up. I don't see anyone else notifying people their price went up." horrible business practice and worse customer service. When I mentioned you may be losing a long term customer simply said thank you and have a nice day. Customer service does not exist anymore. I'm sure you will lose a lot more business with this attitude. I'll be sure to let everyone know in my office. We sponsored DO Sommers...not any more. I've brought in a few suit jackets and pants for alteration. So far, I've had jackets taken in, sleeves slimmed and shorten, pants tapered, waist taken out, as well as hemmed; Mark has been spot on with them each time. It doesn't matter if the jackets were $100 or $1000, Mark puts in the same amount of attention to each of the garment. He takes his time in fitting and pinning out the perfect silhouette for your body and has a great eye for suggestions. When the sleeves on two shirts were slightly too tight to my liking, Mark fixed them straight away until they were perfect. I came in to ask for a suit jacket tailored for my brother's prom. The jacket wasn't very good to begin with, it was a couple sizes too big and I could tell the fabric would be tricky to work on. We also came in two weeks before prom during a really busy month for Mark, but he was so very nice and made us feel extremely welcomed. We were so grateful that he fit us in and accepted to work on the suit jacket, despite how much of a challenge it was. You could really see how much he cherishes his craft from the consultation and seeing his time and energy reflected in the finished product. He views his craft as an art, and I can respect his prices. That being said, he was also accommodating. He asked us if we really thought some alterations were necessary in consideration for us. I'm a struggling college student trying to survive out here, and today I still think back to how nice he was. I truly am so thankful. Their reviews are great so I gave them a call to see if they can help me with my Halloween costume. Under "services provided," costumes are something that they can alter. When I tried explaining to him what I needed to be done, he didn't even want to listen let alone have me come inside so he can see what he can do for me. It was very disappointing! What I needed done wasn't a lot either. I just wanted the back of my costume to get more fabric to give the look of a corset, seem simple to me. But, whatever i'll just take my business elsewhere. *UPDATE*...So I usually don't do this, but "Mark" called me and was very angry because of the review I left him. I think that is very unprofessional that a "business man" would call my phone just to scold me about my review. During this conversation he told me that he was upset and that I was hurting his business with my review and that it shouldnt be up there. I explained to him, that instead of lying about the services that he provide, that he should just update and say that he only tailor men suit, because that's what he's most comfortable with. Because during the whole coversation he kept saying, "I'm not comfortable with altering costumes, I only tailor men suits, I don't want to take people money if I don't know how to do it." That was the only thing out of that phone call that made sense. So, with that being said, go on Yelp, and edit your "services provided." What makes it worse, I looked at the pictures posted and he clearly alter/tailor dresses not just men suits!! So now I feel like he just didn't want to listen to what I wanted done! Good thing I found someone else, who said the work I want done is very inexpensive and easy. I'm not a seamstress but I figured what I was asking for wasn't difficult and I was right..... Also, after that conversation I had with him if I had the option to take my star away and leave "0" I would have. Kind of happy he's not working on my costume. I have a hunch that I came off as an inexperienced client, and was taken advantage of. They were cordial enough to allow me a refund, but it was not full, as there were "high credit card fees".
