The food service is not even edible for human consumption. No decent programs or activities. But the worst issue is the food.

If you are an active older adult looking for a warm community, a safe environment, lovely…read moreaccommodations, stimulating activities, tasty and varied meal options, and access to transportation options that free you from depending on a car, then you might consider Flushing House. I have been a resident for a few months now and I highly recommend it. The location is extraordinary. It is on a quiet street, but two blocks from the hustle and bustle of downtown Flushing with its many stores and transportation options. Manhattan is an easy commute, just a 5-minute walk to the LIRR station and a 15-minute ride to Penn Station or Grand Central. I work part-time in Manhattan, and I've never had an easier commute! Queens College, with its plays and excellent musical offerings, is a quick ride on a nearby bus. Flushing Town Hall with its stellar jazz program is four blocks away. The beautiful Flushing Library is an easy walk, as is Macy's and one of the best pizzerias in Queens. Here at Flushing House itself, there are many interesting offerings - book club, language clubs, exercise programs, both domestic and foreign movies, and a lovely rooftop atrium that is open 24 hours a day. There are many food options at each meal and, once you realize all the choices you have ( on and off the menu) you can always find something you like. One can pick up meals and take them back to one's apartment, but the communal dining room has been a way for me to meet other residents and make the acquaintance of some lovely people. The staff is kind, hardworking and understanding with residents (even when a resident might be cranky!). My apartment is very sunny, clean, and comfortable, and weekly housekeeping is included. If you are an active older adult wondering what the next step in life should be, come to one of the frequent open houses that Flushing House hosts and see for yourself. You may find, as I did, that it is a lovely place in a great location with a price that is very reasonable considering all that is included.

She was professional, personable, extremely knowledgeable, patient, empathetic, caring, ............. I could go on and on with superlatives, but I'm sure you get the picture. She made what would normally would be a very stressful situation, just the opposite. We felt both seen and heard. The tour lasted 3 hours, but we never felt rushed, pressured or patronized. This allowed my wife and me to ask all the questions and get all the information needed to make an informed decision! Thank you Marlo, you are the best!!

Singles can get a one bedroom or a studio apartment. Apartment floor plans can be seen on their website. If you might have trouble keeping track of your medications they can handle that for you with dispensing at breakfast, lunch and dinner as your needs require. They will come to your apartment to deliver meds too! The dinning room is more like a restaurant as you get to chose from a menu at every meal. Outside of the dining room snacks are served. There is always something to do with a calendar of events offering a range from bingo to more cerebral things like discussions of court cases and current events. WiFi is free but you can also order faster service from Spectrum. "Spectrum Assist" + USA Gov subsidy based on your income could get you that service at no cost to you. Be sure that you request both subsidies at same time as "Spectrum Assist" is not available for "existing customers". In other words if you get internet with $30 federal subsidy and then request "Spectrum Assist" you will be denied as you are an "existing customer". The staff is wonderful. Do your due diligence when considering places. One place was taken to court for taking advantage of residents. Their idea of assisted living was two strangers in one room without even a privacy curtain between beds. Search names of places with appropriate key words.

THANK YOU! ----------------------------------------------- I was calling to get an inquiry about getting additional information for a community for my elderly grandma and I wanted to share my experience with you. I appreciate the prompt response getting a call the next day but the level of service your staff, Eleanor provided is truly despicable. For context my grandma is 86 years old and she's been in this country for more than 40 years and no she doesn't speak English. We lived in a Chinese community for a majority of her life and she leaned on her family members to be her advocate to translate for her. I'm DISGUSTED that Eleanor REPEATEDLY ASK ME SHE DOESN'T SPEAK A WORD OF ENGLISH AND HOW SHE WAS SUPPOSE TO COMMUNICATE IF SHE NEEDS HELP OR PAIN. Either Eleanor needs some listening lessons to hear what the family needs are or SHE NEEDS TO BE LESS JUDGEMENTAL about non-ENGLISH speaking elders. I'm so disappointed GIVEN YOUR RATINGS and will DEFINITELY BE SHARING THIS WITH OUR AAPI community about HOW NON-INCLUSIVE your community is. We are a family looking for care for our elderly grandma and if she doesn't brush up her customer service, I'm concerned for your business model. Lastly, if this is the FIRST ENGAGEMENT OF A STAFF MEMBER, HOW DO YOU EXPECT ME TO TRUST YOUR OTHER STAFF? Sincerely, A CONCERNED PROSPECT & CARING GRANDDAUGHTER

Our daughter will not be able to live correctly in a homeless shelter. She needs 24 hours care, she is not able to take care of daily living skills having a Bipolar Schizoaffective disorder. They want her to sign papers on Monday 23, 2023 to start the discharge process. I do not understand how this place is supposed to help people with mental issues and just throw them in the street. They mentioned they are looking for a better place but if they do not have one in 30 days she goes to a homeless shelter. How can our health system do this to people who can not help themselves? Their reason is they can not handle her mental illness behaviors, so they send her to a homeless shelter. It takes a lot of time to find another facility, a lot of paperwork 30 days is not enough. She deserves to be treated with dignity, she did not ask to be mentally ill. Our daughter needs someone to give her meds and make sure she's doing the needed thing to live correctly. As her family we can not provide her with this, we tried very hard but we needed serious help. Plus, we are older now and can not keep up with her behaviors like a full-staff facility can. If she goes into a homeless shelter we will lose her to the streets, and without her meds, she will not be alive long. Plus, Mayor Adams talked about our city and mentioned the issues of the homeless and mentally ill being disregarded, how can this be right? Can someone please help us or give suggestions? We are looking for a lawyer that handles cases like our daughter's or a Supervised Support Housing Facility that deals with mentally ill adults, We agree she needs a more Supervised Facility but we need more time to locate one for her. Insurance is Medicaid We just reaching out for Lawyer or Supervised Support Housing Facility Thank you All
