I would not recommend this facility for anyone. Also, their website and social media do not accurately show you the mezzanine floor where they keep the patients with dementia and elopement risk. The nursing staff are also discourteous and unprofessional and treat the residents like a burden and lack empathy and humanity.

Avoid Chapin Nursing Home -- unsafe, unprofessional, and completely unreliable…read more Chapin may look clean and well‑run from the outside, but the care inside is unacceptable. The nursing staff is consistently rude, and the aides show a shocking lack of basic hygiene and professionalism. One aide even used my aunt's bathroom, left it unflushed, and walked out without washing her hands before returning to patient care. That alone should alarm anyone considering this facility. I reported these issues to the director, who assured me he would address the problems and follow up. After I posted a negative review, he asked me to remove it, promising immediate action. Instead, I spent more than a week trying to reach him, and nothing meaningful was done. Only when I made it clear that I would file complaints with city and state authorities did the facility make any changes--and those changes were minimal. During her stay, my aunt contracted COVID‑19 and had to be rushed to the ER. Thankfully she recovered, and we transferred her out of Chapin as soon as she was discharged. That decision likely protected her from further harm. If you care about your loved one's safety, dignity, and well‑being, do not bring them here. Chapin is not a place for anyone who expects even basic standards of care.

We were a hands-on family that made sure someone visited our loved one almost daily. God help those that don't visit their family/friends regularly. One day I found an aide hiding in my relative's empty room, lights off, AC set full blast, while she was busily texting away. She had the nerve to nastily ask me why I'd come into the room, (to retrieve a sweater) after I knocked on the closed door & received no response. When I brought my relative back to their room approximately 45 minutes later, she was just leaving the patient's bathroom. Bottom line, she left her overworked colleagues to carry the heavy load while she wasted time, NOT taking care of patients. Never understood how someone unable to walk, and a clear fall risk, experienced one fall out of bed which caused serious scrapes and bruises and another that necessitated a hospital stay. Bed rails are there for a reason. As much as I appreciate the idea of entertainment being used to boost patients spirits, the audience's comfort level during the entertainment should be taken into account. A belly dancer coming in for Father's Day, in theory, may have been fun. Not so much when you have a crowded room full of patients, some catatonic, some with dementia, and the dancer is blasting her accompanying music at an ear splitting level. I could hear the music in the elevator, 2 floors away. When I arrived on the floor, my loved one was screaming and completely disoriented. The staff needed to step in & turn down the music, MANY notches. Needless to say, we did not stay for the show. Forget bringing any nice clothing/toiletries for your loved one. You can plan on not getting your property back, if/when it's lost. Why bother having an itemized list of personal items and clothing marked with name tags? Liked that they have an outside terrace with shade trees for patients to use. Appreciated the few really dedicated nurses and aides that have elder care as their calling. Unfortunately, they were the exception, not the rule.

I cannot share enough kind words about Ozanam Hall of Queens NY. After a recent stroke and a twelve…read moreday hospital stay, my dad went to Ozanam for rehabilitative services. My family didn't place dad there blindly, it was by choice, after weighing all the options. We have a family member who is a long term resident there currently as well as a long time family friend who is there too. They love the care they receive and the staffers they receive it from. Their recommendations were well received. From the moment I entered the front door and was greeted by the front desk attendant Lana, I knew dad was in a great, loving, caring and Holy place. I went up to dad's floor, was greeted by every staff member I passed. Not just on my first visit, but every visit. No matter how busy they were, every single person said hello. As time went on, those greetings were by name. It truly felt like dad was being cared for by loving family. My visits only lasted a week or so as I live about 700 miles away, but my experience and my opinions of my dad's treatment are fact based. He could not have received better care anywhere else. The facility was spotless, well maintained and the staff all love why they do. It takes a special kind of person to do this work. Ozanam is blessed with the best. Ozanam is even updating the rooms one floor at a time. It's nice to see the investment back into the facilities. The office staff was extremely helpful, kind and very communicative. They assisted in every way possible, making the daunting logistics of dealing with the insurance companies a less daunting part of the experience. I could not ask for better! I'd like to name everyone I met there who cared for me dad and assisted my family throughout, but I would have to name every person in the public eye as well as everyone behind the scenes there. By God's plan, my dad, Donald B. declined due to advancing medical conditions. He received great personal care and was treated with dignity up to and beyond when he took his final breath. He passed on Sept 22, peacefully in his sleep. The staffers who knew him were as sad as we are. Thank you to everyone at Ozanam Hall of Queens for all you do for every person in your care every day. May continue to God bless you all. Please keep doing what you do!!! You all are absolutely incredible. Rest easy dad! God's got you!
