The Madison Theatre opened in 1929. Since 2013 it's had two different owners before the current owners reopened it again. in December 2024. After being closed for eight months since April 20 24. I really enjoy going to this theater. The staff is helpful and friendly. Great that you can have a meal while watching a movie. I've tried the pizza and cheeseburger and french fries. Very good and reasonably priced. This is a great independent theater in the Pine Hills area of Albany. Please go out and support the Theatre. The owners are trying very hard and people need to come out in large enough numbers so the Theatre can break even financially make a small profit would be great as well. They have trivia night on Fridays. So just come on out see a movie. Enjoy eating something during the film or before you go in to the theater. This theater is a shame. We bought tickets to attend a movie on Oct 24th. 15 minutes after the movie was supposed to start one of the other patrons went to the cashier to find out what was happening - the attendant who was very nice said it was going to be a 15 min delay on top of the already 15 min late start. Then a few minutes after that another patron came back in after trying to get his money back to announce that the movie was not going to play at all. There was no manager or anyone at the theater that knew how to start the movie!!! The poor cashier was on the phone with someone directing him how to scramble for money to give people cash back. I think they even used the bar tips. Incredible. It was obvious that there were only catering to the bar crowd that were doing a trivia night in the lobby. Don't waste your time and money with this place. read more

I was excited to head back to The Madison under its new ownership. I brought 10 girls there for my daughter's birthday and it was great! The owners were so nice, helpful, and accommodating. The kids loved ordering food right to their seats. The menu under the new owners is better than the previous menu in my opinion. We will definitely be going back and I wish them all the success with their new business! read more

Such a cool little spot in the heart of the Capital District. I've lived in Albany for nearly 6 years and I rarely go into the city. Everyone that worked there was beyond nice and helpful. You can really tell the enjoy working there which speaks a lot for the owners. This event I attended was very well organized and fun. I was able to meet some of the local Yelpers and hope to meet more next time there is an event (and maybe win a trophy next year) haha congratulations to all the winners!! I love being a part of the small community and love experiencing new businesses and sharing my experience. I love this homey place! I've been to an event and just a plain old movie, and both were great. Popcorn was tasty, great prices, and the menu items were what you'd expect from bar food. Definitely an experience I'd repeat. read more

I've been to the Madison a few times since it reopened. It was great at first, but things have declined in recent months. It seems like corners are being cut... weird, tiny snack selection, being given a cup of water from the bar--without a straw-- instead of a bottle (which is good for sustainability, but that didn't seem like the reason), and last time I went (about 3 weeks ago), twice during my movie servers came in with food and had to ask everyone in the theater if it was theirs because they had no idea where to bring it. There was also a *very* loud party in the lobby while I was watching my movie, and the noise was distracting. Finally, the one time I tried to go to the attached restaurant, I went in, said hi to the server, got shown to a table.... and then waited 10 minutes for someone to give me a menu or come over to the table--I ended up just walking out. I really want the Madison to succeed, but it's just not great right now. read more

It is so nice to have our neighborhood theater back open! With a bar, hot food and sweets what more could you ask for?! We went on Tuesdays when movies are $5 each. We shared the burger and fries, popcorn chicken (also comes with fries) and chipotle egg rolls. All the food was hot and tasty. I like that they are reducing their plastic use here. I wish they would ditch the plastic straws. Maybe they weren't really plastic? I'm not sure but they avoided it elsewhere and I was glad! Our server was really nice. And the seats were comfortable. We also loved our cocktails. They weren't cheap but we were here to see a movie not get drunk. I can't wait to come back and try everything else on the menu (over time). Welcome back! read more

For the second time in a few months I have not been able to watch the movie because the projector overheated. There is very little consistency in staff, and that is apparent As someone who lives in the neighborhood I was really hopeful that the theater would be a success. That is clearly not the case. There is absolutely zero management. read more

It's been almost 2 weeks since they (re)opened the Madison Theater and we finally got here. We went to matinee to see the final Star Wars chapter. So excited to be able to order munchies and cocktails to enjoy at our seats(!) We had the popcorn (it was great) and a couple of draft beers. What a treat! The seats are plush and comfy. The staff is super friendly and helpful, the movie ticket prices are very reasonable, and the food is actually pretty good. We had a pizza, hamburgers and some popcorn. Everything was tasty. We went to see Avatar, Way of the Water which happens to be a three hour movie. Within 30 minutes of viewing the movie a cold draft crept in and the theater was super cold. I went out to the concession stand to ask what was going on and was told, "oops sorry, the heat is out." I proceeded to ask for a refund but was shutdown rudely and denied. After waiting for 30 minutes for the owner/manager; was told he was busy and couldn't help us. After then threatening to call the better business bureau we were given a gift certificate. Madison theater HUDSON NY Finally went to this dine in movie theater. Batman movie. Preordered tickets. We ended up being the only 2 viewers at the movie. We sat in the back center row. Seats were comfortable and clean. In front of each row is a long bench like table with menus and condiments. A waiter came in right away asking if we wanted any thing. Beverages and or food. We had soda and order the nachos. It was all quite fresh and plentiful. Although could of used some more ground beef. Salsa and guacamole were delicious. And plenty of chips and cheese. I guess the only complaint we would have is the brightness of the theater. Overhead lights were really much to bright to get that experience of the full screen I really don't want to see every seat in the place. I like to focus on the big screen. Maybe the lights are a safety issue. But for us a distraction. Still it was clean and the waiters were attentive. Checking in from time to time. read more

IF I COULD GIVE IT 0 STARS I WOULD! It's a fine place if you want to drink, but forget it if you want to actually see a movie. The movie didn't start until 20 minutes later for technical delays which were handled very poorly. In addition, the workers were the most unprofessional people I have encountered. They could not remember who had ordered what and at times they even stood in front of people, barring their view and just looking confused as the movie was playing. Several people complained that the food was cold or not what they had ordered. There was little noise barrier between the activity going on outside and the movie because all that separated the two was a half closed curtain that always let in a little light on the screen from the room outside. I understand that this is a "dinner with a movie" establishment, but they need to seriously need to get themselves together and organize their format a LOT better! read more

My friend and I went to go see Eternals at 6:30 on 11/21/21 and we had a great time, the food was good, the service was great! My card had some problems going through and our sever was really nice and understanding. Overall we were very happy and had a great time! Will go again soon! read more
