I would say that Madfrog Volleyball is the worst program in the country. All the coaches are incompetent. Their volleyball knowledge is a joke. They never teach fundamentals, because they do not know fundamentals. The coaches will do anything to win, and when they don't win, they blame specific players, and take no responsibility themselves.
Some of the things the coaches do:
Favoritism: The coaches secretly decide which players will get play time. If your daughter is not on their favorite list, they will not play, but stand, especially during big games. When a non-favorite makes a mistake, they are yelled at and insulted. When one of the favorites makes a mistake, it is ignored. Non-favorites are often pulled due to poor play while favorites are allowed to continue to play. Inconsistent treatment of players.
Coaches have Poor Volleyball Knowledge: Most of the coaches have very limited knowledge of volleyball fundamentals. They never work with players on specific form because they have no knowledge of such form. Specifically, very little fundamental training is given to setting, blocking, player positioning, serving, defense, and serve receive. The coaches do not know how to make strategic adjustments against opponents. When they lose, they often do not know why they lost, but rather they blame specific non-favorite players.
Use of Screaming and Insults: The coaches continually and openly scream at the non-favorite players. Some of the coaches tell the girls they are fat, slow, or other terms just to hurt their feelings. Often, the coaches openly tell the setters to not set specific players, during games in which the words are heard by spectators.
Coaches openly Talk about players to Parents: Many of the coaches go drinking alcohol with the favorite's player parents. The coaches in a drunken state sometimes insult specific players of which the parents are not there. The coaches have no understanding of how they start powerful rumors to the detriment of the team. These rumors often cause team turmoil and poor team performance.
Lack of Recruiting Action: This is the biggest joke of all. They have inept recruiting. They do not do anything other than sometimes forward an email sent by a college coach. The coaches have this attitude that you should be happy to just be on Madfrog. They take no action to help the players get scholarships with colleges. When they are contacted by colleges coaches, they sometimes forward the information to the parent. Sometimes they do not forward the information, especially if they do not like the player or if they do not like the college coach.
Preference towards and Special tolerance of Black Players: The coaches have a preference towards black players. Statistically, the let black players have more court time, and are more tolerant for their mistakes, and bad attitudes. When black players abuses or insults a white player, they look the other way. When a white players defends or retaliates against the black player, the coaches intervene and take action against the white player.
Stealing of Players from Other Club teams: Each year the top coaches try to steal the best players from other teams. They make all kinds of promises including no monthly dues, preferred player treatment, and preferred positions promised. They will say or do anything to take a great player from another program as it upgrades the Madfrog team and downgrades the competition. The coaches take joy in taking great players from other programs, and actually flaunt it. Near the end of the season, the coaches break published rules regarding contacting players from other clubs. They could care less about the rules.
The Coaches View the Parents as Intruders/Irritants: Before the new player commits to Madfrog, the coaches are super communicative, and accommodative to the parents. After commitment, they view the parents as irritants. The coaches feel like they know best on every issue, and that they parents do not even have a right to ask a question. The parents are not allowed to question the coaches or criticize them in any fashion. The head coaches view themselves as "God" and that the player and family should be happy that Madfrog allowed them to play on their team. If a head coach is criticized, they will retaliate against the player/family either that season, or the next season. All of this does not happen if your daughter if one of the favorites, especially if she is a Black player favorite. The parents are given a priority regarding discussions or requests from the black parents.
If your daughter is considering Madfrog, I would suggest that you stay away. If your daughter is white and plays for Madfrog, things will happen that do not make sense.
