Madani is a local grocery store that specializes in Halal meats, kebabs, fresh bread and take-out pizza. My friend heard about this spot by word of mouth and I am so thankful we gave this place a try. The store is a little crammed and messy on the inside but do not be fooled by the appearance because the food is amazing. For just under $12, you can get a large pizza with 3 toppings and a garlic dipping sauce. The pizza itself was delicious. The ingredients tasted fresh, leaving each bite as flavourful as the last and the crust was nice and crispy. We waited around 15 minutes for our order and it passed by quickly because we got sidetracked by all the neat products on the shelves. Overall, Madani was a pleasant experience and we would recommend it to anyone. They have very friendly staff and most importantly... an affordable menu! Note: They accept MasterCard, American Express, Cash and Visa.

Large "pepperoni" (halal!) pizza God bless

Honestly, $9.99 for a three-topping pizza (and a scrumptious sauce included)? This place is legit. Madani is situated in a building that has seen many businesses come to die (A Portugese chicken joint and Elena's Ukrainian deli were the last triumphant warriors that ventured into this spot located in the midst of Richmond Hill's crowded Yonge & King intersection and left defeated. Madani, however, has (so far!) survived the test of time, and with good reason. Walk into this store and you may be baffled at just how much inventory the owners fit into such a tight space. Halal butchery to your left (at the back), pizza and kebab ordering area to your right, and tons of ethnic produce all in between! This is also a go-to for my family when we are craving koobideh or sheesh kebab (yumz!! The rice is so pillowy, the meat is perfect, the salad is drenched in a delicious but light ranch-like sauce and you get a little tomato too - all for about $7.99). I love that they have halal "pepperoni" (beef) for the pizza (there is halal salami sold at the counter to the right of the pizza part). The employees' primary language is not English so do be a little patient, but they are very friendly and helpful :) I am a loyal follower of the Madani way.

We have tried a few places in and around Markham that sell Wagyu, but non of them blew us away. I decided to do a random search for Japanese Butchers and Wagyu and came across FãMu Inc. which is listed as "The only Japanese Butcher in Ontario". FãMu is the Japanese pronunciation of farm. They are all about animals that are pasture or free-run, raised without chemicals, antibiotics, hormones or animal bi-products. Located in J Town, an indoor/outdoor mall of Japanese businesses located On Steeles Avenue E near Woodbine in Markham. (LOVED the shops at J Town!!). We have had several great experiences with this shop since our first visit 9 months ago. Everyone in shop is very helpful and knowledgeable about all of the cuts they sell. Our first try of FãMu we purchased the A5 Wagyu Miyazaki Striploin. BBQ'd on the grill for 2 min on each side (as per the butchers recommendation), the cuts were bbq'd to perfection and just melted in our mouths. I have never eaten a steak anywhere that was so perfectly marbled and so tender. I would say it was easily one of the best steaks I have ever had! The next would be the Australian Wagyu Ribeye we picked up (15oz cuts). A little on the pricey side, but WOW, you get what you pay for and no better way to indulge in a perfect steak bbq. Some of the cuts of Japanese Wagyu they sell are: Kobe - A5 Kuromame Nagi - A5 Furano - A5 Miyazaki (Miyazakigyu)- A5 Hokkaido (Tokachi) - A5 Various Regions Of Japan - A4 Plus ~ Australian Wagyu, US Wagyu, Chicken, Berkshire Pork, Wagyu burgers and Wagyu slices for Sukiyaki Hot Pots and more! During 2 of our recent visits we also tried their Double Wagyu Beef Bowl. Thinly sliced pieces of Wagyu seasoned with in store made terriyaki/soy sauce over a bed of steamed rice. Small portion for the cost, but filling and THE most tender beef bowl you will ever try! Not sure about which cut to try, visit their website and you can get detailed info on each cut, you can also stop in and ask or order online. In shop everyone is very warm, friendly and happy to help if you have any questions.

Choices are…read moreamazingly plentiful, I was able to find not just the normal cuts of beef, but even frozen beef bone marrow, foie gras, etc. Also I was able to find a pretty wide variety of Italian ingredients including many types of flour for pasta and pizza. Probably this store has some Italian background? They also have a wide selection of prepared meat items, for instance I saw they had ready to bake Beef Wellington :D However, I'm not too sure about the taste as I tried their breakfast sausage and it turned out far too salty for me. The other side of being a specialty store means...not having that much choices for other types of items. Produce choices are satisfying enough but of less variety than bigger supermarkets. I somehow liked their packaging of using ziplock bags for salad leaves and other produces, it saved me a bit of fridge space. Seafood choices are very limited. Being a person with a diet that stresses heavily on seafood and white meats, that weekend I did end up going for a second grocery trip to get all the items I needed. The store had very few customers during my visit. It has the feeling of a neighborhood grocer that serves only who knows this place - I happened to hear a customer talking to the butcher and it sounded like the customer had been coming to the store for food for a long time. Not a bad place at all if knowing what to expect from a specialty store.

The hot food selection is pathetic with just rotisserie chicken. For salad they do have quite a variety, even some strange coloured kimichi. The fresh produces selections I found it is just so so too. I might drop by Bruno's for last minute or pick up odd items I needed because it is smaller in size and not as busy and I can get in and out fast. But it won't be the to go to place for my grocery needs!
