The "gold ring" turned my finger gray after wearing it for a few days. They also don't cater to a variety of sizes- largest ring size was a 7.5. They have some cute clothes, but their return policy is horrible. I've shopped there for years and have never returned anything. However, this one time I went to return a purchase after the 21 day return policy, late by 12 days (because I didn't realize their policy was so strict). I had an unworn blouse that I paid over $150 in tags and their bag. It turned out too large for me. They refused to allow the return, I then asked for a manager, who stated I could only exchange it for something today, no store credit, even with receipt. I was rushed to find another blouse, one that was $40 cheaper, they told me I could find something else to cover the $40 but had to be same day, again, no store credit for the balance. I had such a sour experience I allowed them to keep the $40 and walked away with a cheaper blouse. They have a low morale compass, will NEVER shop there again, and will not ever recommend them to anyone. Btw, I'm a business owner, there are always exceptions, like a customer who has shopped at your store many times and this is their first return! Absurd! read more

I stopped by Madam Butterfly after shopping at Soma. I needed a new wallet and noticed a sign for 15% off all wallets. I bought a wallet for about $30. I mistakenly assumed the wallet would be of good quality because I've always thought of the Pavilions as a classy shopping center. But boy was I wrong! Later that day as I started putting money, cards, etc into the new wallet, I noticed the change compartment zipper was broken. The wallet just seemed extremely cheaply made. I looked at the receipt and noticed that they do not give refunds on sale items. Figures! I went back the next day and they were only willing to let me exchange the wallet for another item. As I looked around the store, I found everything to be WAY over priced. I even looked up an item online that they were selling for $38 and this same item was selling for $23 at Walmart and $15 on Amazon. The sales associate was trying to convince me that this item was a great deal. When I pointed out how inexpensive it was elsewhere she just laughed uncomfortably and didn't know what to say. I eventually ended up exchanging the wallet for a pair of earrings they were selling for $30 that should have sold closer to $10. I walked out of the store feeling completely ripped off. Not exactly the experience you are looking for when you shop. I don't know how they stay in business with the way they are overcharging for cheaply made merchandise. I guess by not giving refunds once you figure out you've been had! I will NEVER step foot in this store again. This is my first one star review. I just felt compelled to write this review as I would like to save others from making the same mistake that I did. I noticed there are a lot of other one star reviews. For a high end boutique, shop is disappointing. I brought a couple Michael stars pants back because after washing them twice there were giant holes in them, which were not repairable and clearly a manufacturer defect. The owner was super snooty about it and basically said there was nothing she could do. I would expect a replacement, store credit, refund, or an offer to fix. Instead she offered to sell me another pair at a discount. The owner said it was up to Michael stars to do something and took no ownership in the situation. If you're anything like me -- which is to say that you abstain from buying expensive clothing so that you might piss away your extra income on lobster bisque from 4th Street Grille, and California wines instead -- you are likely to be a bit disappointed by Madame Butterfly. Their Sales are not cheap; it's cheapER. That said, I've found a few exciting purchases at Madame Butterfly. Reminds me of those upscale boutiques in L.A., but their prices are a bit better. They have nice stuff and, every once in a while, at prices I can justify. And you're in luck if you like jeans that show off your butt crack. Madam Butterfly is like a little high fashion haven nestled right here in Sacramento. This town needs more shops like this. It reminds me of an upscale boutique that you might find in Los Angeles or San Francisco. They carry some of the most current labels around that you wouldn't be able to find anywhere else in town. Plus, they have a great jewelry selection. Sure, some of the stuff can be pricey, but they also carry more affordable lines as well. I've gotten a couple dresses here for various New Years Eve events and they were amazing and unique - which is great because you know you won't run into someone else wearing the same outfit. I'm honestly baffled by some of the other reviews on here. The staff is so friendly and helpful. They always greet everyone that walks into the store. They know how sizing can differ between each brand, so they can give some great insight into how things will fit. They sell quality stuff, I still have items that I purchased years ago and it's still as good as new. read more

What happens when you try a belt on over your jeans w/out running it thru the loops? Bought a Collen Cordero belt (not on sale). When got home & tried it on properly w/the jeans I intended to wear it with--way too big-- called the store up & explained the fit & asked if they had the same one in a size smaller-- put on hold briefly & then told yes. Great-- went back after finishing lunch & swapped out the belt for the correct size. Love this store & the girls are always very helpful. Great store! One of my best friends introduced me to this great boutique a few years ago and I have been in love since. Although it is quite pricey, I know the items which I am purchasing are high quality. This is definitely a once a year splurge for me (if I'm extra good, I may get to go twice) :P On a slight side note...Madam Butterfly also has a boutique/salon at The Fountains in Roseville, but I was not too impressed. Calling me fat in a round about way, not once, not twice, but multiple times, is a sure fire way to prevent me spending any money in this store. I have shopped here for years and am always impressed with their DVF collection. Today I found a great DVF skirt and grabbed my size. When I went to go try it on the sales associate asked what size I wore and I told her and she said "really?" Ummm, yes really, I know my size. She then suggested I try on a size two sizes larger and I said no. She then said "good luck" when I tried it on. The skirt fit perfectly, but was a little too short as it is designed to be a really short mini. I was contemplating buying it due to its lack of length when I came out of the dressing room and the sales person asked if I needed a larger size. I said no, it fits great. Her response, "wow, really? That's surprising." That did it, I put the skirt down and walked out the store. I don't care how great the clothes are, there is no way I am spending money only to be insulted. Maybe my heavy pea coat and thick sweater made me look a little heavier but there is no excuse for her rudeness, insults, and overall lack of customer service. I walked into Madam Butterfly on a tuesday afternoon and although there were a couple of people in the store it was not busy by any means. I spent about 15 min looking at things and was never once acknowledged. There were a couple of items I would have tried on if there was any type of service. The two girls at the counter were talking amongst themselves and I guess to busy to say hello. Service is everything these days, especially in a boutique. I will never go into that store again. First let me say, if you scroll through the Madam Butterfly page there are TONS of similar NEGATIVE reviews about their snotty, unnecessary, attitude issues, dating back to 2011. REVIEW: What a shame!!! I own a condo really close to Pavillions Plaza, and on my walks I like to get lunch at Cafe Bernardo, then peruse at my leisure at Madame Butterfly. Although the clothing is pretty, I never purchase anything because it is not my style at all. They are more grossly over priced Bohemian, I am more current/classic/chic Nordstrom/Neiman's/Saks, FASHION FORWARD kind of girl. No harm there, the issue has been the service. After months of dropping in, just to look, I feel like Im not welcome, especially by a sales associate named Kennedy, the owner, and the manager who has this high pitched irritating baby voice she talks in when she changes the subject or gets excited WTF?? LOL!!! Kennedy especially looks at me like I am the plague every time I come in. One bad seed makes for a unwelcoming and undesireable experience. She has an arrogant attitude, and is aloof and rude without realizing it. I got sick of it after about six months of stopping buy after lunch, so I spoke with her about it, and she looked totally shocked, like she couldnt believe I noticed the condescending way she treats me every time I come in. I usually come in there in my workout clothes, and my beat up walking shoes, so maybe she was judging me based on this...you should never judge a book by its cover. I spend hours at Saks, Fendi, and Dolce & Gabanna in SF as often as possible! Hopefully she will learn to keep her nasty attitude to herself. Lastly, in all honesty, whoever the buyer is needs to find a new trade. The clothing there is hand-made and every garment is covered in freyed threads, missing sequens, and cheap patterns with prices starting at $600 for a blouse!!! JC Penny's has better quality. LOL!!! Ijs. I don't trust a boutique that sells a diamond pave bracelet for $5,000 dollars, and jewelry under $30 in the same case. It doest work for me. "Ciao" for now LOL!!!!...p.s. Quite nice boutique for Sacramento, has a nice variety of boutique-y brands and designer jeans. Very friendly and helpful staff, nice collection of fashion jewelry, accessories, and lingerie. They also have occasional sales so if you're a diehard sales shopper be sure to get on their mailing list. The only downside is that it's not a huge shop so of course they don't always have every size in stock... but nonetheless, definitely a good option to support a local business for your trendy clothing shopping! read more

Busy on the job hunt and I stumble across their ad, mind you it has been up for 30+ days. Anyway, so I call and ask to speak to the manager, we have probably a 30 second conversation, she sounds cheery and delightful and tells me to bring in my resume the next day. The next day rolls around and I'm dressed and ready to go, and when I get there I'm approached by one of the associates, she was very nice and I told her I had spoke to the manager and wanted to bring in my resume. The associate walks over to the manager and leans in with a whisper obviously about me and why I'm here, and the manager comes over says "hi" not even with a smile, doesn't even introduce herself or reach out to shake my hand, she then proceeds to say "thanks but we are kind of busy" while taking my resume and shoving it under the register. She then walks away from me and ignores me. I waited around to see if maybe she would approach me once she had a moment of free time, NOPE sure didn't, she wouldn't even look at me. So I eventually just walked out and went home. I couldn't believe how rude and unwelcoming the manager was. She acted like I was some peasant begging for money. Any one who walks into her business, no matter if they are a customer or eagerly applying for a job they should be treated with respect and like human being. Even if she did call me for the job, I wouldn't take it. read more

I bought a t-shirt for $110.00 and right away, it ended up getting a hole by the chest area. This was a few years ago which was expensive for $110.00. Clothes may be cute, but definitely not quality clothes. They probably get it at some wholesaler for $15.00 and sell it for $110.00 Won't buy anything again because I'd be afraid it wouldn't last more than 6 months. read more

This store carries the same garments as another store in the area, but the labels were different at Madame Butterfly, and the prices of the exact same garments were easily double at Madame Butterfly. Love this place and the ladies who run it. I always stop by when I'm in town, and I always find things I don't find other places. The vibe feels like you're stopping to see friends. I do wish they had an online shopping option since I love their store and don't live in the area, but I understand that may not be cost effective for them. I am continuously disappointed by my shopping experiences at Madam Butterfly. I return only occasionally, on a whim, once in a while to search for the rogue nice piece. The owners are incredibly snooty and undeservedly so. They treat their employees like obvious underlings, barking orders at them in fake syrupy voices. The demeaning behavior by the owners is apparent and they are largely too good to say hello to customers, they make the minions do the greetings. The clothing selection is poor, with 85% of their selections being incredibly unappealing and lackluster. It's the perfect boutique to attain a frumpy look, for an inflated price. The accessories are also often of poor quality. Perhaps I could get over the time wasted looking at ugly item after ugly item, sifting for the 10% of items with style, if the management/ owners weren't so impressed with themselves. They aren't trend setters or creative, they copy Instagram trends to a fault, too obvious ladies. Stop being fashion followers. Oh and one more thing, it's annoying how during business hours, the owners run to squirrel away in their hole of an office walking around with faces that seem oddly burdened and aggravated by the existence of customers. read more

Hi I stopped in recently and loved your store. Great clothes and staff. I love everything there, but was looking for a brand that I've found in Southern California boutiques called Shawn McVey Jewelry or California Girl Designs Jewelry I think. It's like Chen Lu or Lucky Brand style, but more affordable and handmade. I know she does custom orders for customers too. Maybe you carry it and I just didn't see it there.
