TL;DR/The Short Version: Cute little place in Stittsville…read moreselling tasty soups and sandwiches. The Long Version: I had lunch at Wiches Cauldron recently and it was great. I got the Chicken Sandwich ($15.95). It was sliced real chicken breast meat, mozzarella cheese, mixed greens, cucumbers, picked onions and fig jam. It usually comes with mayo, but I asked them to omit it. All sandwiches come with a mini 4 oz soup. I chose the curried carrot and squash soup. The sandwich was delicious. The bread they use is a Kaiser and it's from Carp Bakery. It was soft and very fresh. I loved that the meat was real chicken and not deli meat. The fig jam was tasty and gave the sandwich a nice sweet taste. The soup was a bit watery, but was full of flavour. It had a strong curry flavour and the coconut milk in it made it a bit creamy. I enjoyed it. Funny story: I ordered the chicken sandwich. They ask your name for the order. The lady who ordered after me also got the chicken sandwich but she asked for no cheese. The cashier announced to the kitchen "no cheese on the chicken sandwich" and the kitchen asked "which order? Jennifer's?" And the cashier said "no, the next one, I haven't punched it in yet." Lol. I chimed in "I love cheese, I definitely want cheese on my sandwich!" The man in the kitchen said "alright, extra cheese for Jennifer!" And the lady after me said "yeah, you can have my cheese." Haha. So I got two slices of cheese in my sandwich. Score! Lol. Everyone working there was super nice and friendly. It's a small place, so the cash and the kitchen are right next to each other. I took my order to go, but there's seating to dine in. I noticed they have a small amount of branded merchandise, like baseball caps. There is free parking in their private parking lot at the back of the restaurant. Fun facts: The Wiches Cauldron started off as a food truck in the early/mid 2010s. Some time in the early 2020s they moved into their present location which was Red Gables Creperie before (it was also briefly Red Gables Ramen before they rebranded and started selling crepes instead of ramen). Not all Royal Oaks are equal, some are certainly better than others. Overall, I would say this one was better than some. We were meeting later in the evening, so my husband and I already had dinner, so we just shared the Haddock Dippers ($9) and Sweet Potato Fries ($9). I also got a Strawberry Dream ($6.50) and my husband got a few Guinesses ($9.55 each). The Haddock Dippers came 4 per order. They were fairly small and more batter than fish, but the batter was crispy and they didn't taste like Captain Highliners at least. The fish came with tartar sauce. The sweet potato fries were thin and lightly battered. I enjoyed them, but just found the quantity lacking. The portion was really small, especially for $9. They came with a chipotle mayo dipping sauce. The Strawberry Dream was like a virgin strawberry daiquiri. It was good, but way too sweet for me, no surprise though, as I find most drinks way too sweet, lol. Service was alright. The patio was a good size. I like that we weren't close to other occupied tables. They have a table with a firepit in the middle, which I thought was cool. There were lots of mosquitoes out through, so be sure to put on bug repellent if you're out there in the evening. It's a chain pub and definitely meets the standards of such. Even in today's economy though, I found the portion sizes small. Lots of free parking in their private lot.

I noticed when I receive the food in the box that the box was very light meaning there was not much pulled pork on the sandwich or probably not much fries. When I opened it up I noticed that the fries looked very good and properly cooked. A taste of the fries revealed they were excellent. I unwrap the pulled pork sandwich and took a bite and the first thing I noticed that there was no sauce on the sandwich at all or so little you couldn't tell. Also the amount of pulled pork on the sandwich was at most very average if not a little on the low side. I've had a lot of pulled pork sandwiches especially at the bbq rib fest downtown and to be honest this is at the lower end of the quality and quantity spectrum. There was nothing wrong with the sandwich except for the lack of meat and little to no sauce but it just was nothing great. There was only two items in the box, the sandwich and the fries and the sandwich was rather weak. Overall, grudgingly, I'll give it a three stars but there's room for improvement here.

We have had Papa…read moreSam's before, but it's been a while, and we are now comparing current pizza competition in the 'hood, for price, quality, service, and to see how well they stand behind their advertising. That last point for this experience really bites! Down one full star for this experience!! We were drawn to Papa's because of local advertising, so I called. At the end of placing my order, the man who answered said, "in Kanata"... nope! We completely blanked on that - I didn't even notice the ad specifically stated Kanata, when we wanted the Stittsville location. I hadn't fully realized they had 2 locations until then! The bad experience was with the Stittsville location; they charged about $5 more for the same pizza, saying "all the prices have gone up!" Yay for you, not so much for me!! But for now, supporting local, you got me once. So this pizza was $31, taxes in. Almost double the Milano's special!! Yikes! On the upside, they did allow me to change one item at no extra (I don't like green peppers), and they threw in 2 cans of pop at no charge. Great! As for the pizza itself, we got what papa's calls XL, but to us this is the same size as Large at Milano's, so it's bigger than Domino's, and also had more of everything on it than Domino's. Papa's considers chicken to be a premium topping, so they charge more for it (we didn't get it today). I might add that Chicken is included at Milano's. So how good was the pizza? The bottom line it was ok, but not stellar. I've been looking for pizza crust that is light and airy and full of bubble-pockets, instead of too thick. That's not what we got here. However, it wasn't too thin or too thick. The pizza was covered with ingredients (waaay better than Domino's!) On the downside, I didn't love the pepperoni on it; I like it more like salami that's not too hard and chewy. This is sort of like bologna... and just about as exciting :-( Lastly, the service: ummm... leaves a bit to be desired. First of all, they don't respect advertised specials at both locations, which is really unfortunate. That will affect future purchases at Papa's either location. Secondly, the Stittsville location is in like an old house, and the sidewalks are not well shovelled. I walked past an open door that wasn't the entrance, to hear loud (Lebanese?) music blaring!! When I did get in to pick up my pie, the music was gratefully turned down, and the pie was ready. However, the fellow serving started in on the personal questions: "Do you know what your name means? Heaven!" And "I love your hair!" Geez, I love the compliments, but did not expect them!!

Which anything that's for free- count me in. But idk why it's called a pie when it's like an ice cream cake? Either way, it was GOOD. As for the environment, it was very spacious and comfortable seating but was pretty dark inside (which makes sense for a fancy/"high-end" restaurant)- if anyone has vision problems, you might need assistance. Also weirdly enough, although I consider the Keg to be a higher-end restaurant, they have quite a few "booths" which we didn't expect to see- it's giving diner and Swiss Chalet (which there's nothing wrong with). I had my 6oz cooked medium and it was the perfect colour, tenderness, and juiciness! But all in all, the steak was nothing overly special and I've probably had better- the price wasn't bad for it though like $36

Disappointing experience…read more My family has been frequenting this location for years. They must have recently changed their zucchini sticks; they used to be incredibly flavourful, and served with a delicious dipping sauce. Today, we received 8 hard, bland sticks with mayo, instead of a basketful of crispy deliciousness. When brought to the waiter's attention, she told us an anecdote about another table ordering 6 servings of these sticks. We were brought tzatziki that was hard as a rock - we plopped it down onto the warm nacho pan to make it edible. Speaking of nachos- don't order the Southwest, they apparently never have corn or beans. The same waiter had no suggestions for us. We had to "build our own" veggie nachos, and act thankful that she would not charge us the higher chicken nacho price. They were satisfactory, because we chose exactly what went into them. We are now waiting for our bill. It has been at least ten (10) minutes. Nobody has checked on us. We could walk out and nobody would notice. Update: we have been charged the lower nacho price, but also charged for jalapeños. Without jalapeños, these would have been pretty sad nachos (just pico de gallo and cheese).
