I made a reservation and was pleasantly surprised by the ambiance here. It was a wonderful summer evening to start the weekend. I came in a party of two and sat at the patio. Our server was extremely nice and checked in on us a few times. We ordered a few margaritas, chips and guac and tacos. All were very delicious! I especially loved the shrimp tacos. Margarita Restaurant - Mexican Near Me - Ottawa, Ontario

When I saw they had a chapulin taco here, I had to have it! It's a soft corn tortilla with pasilla sauce, queso fresco, onions, cilantro, guacamole, and the star of the show, spiced GRASSHOPPERS!! And lemme tell you, they did not hold back on the grasshoppers. I thought that they would sort of be sprinkled on top or something, but nope, they really went for it! It honestly tasted more roasted than anything, and they were whole, so they were crunchy, but other than that, the lime plus the medium and extra spicy hot sauces I got on the side added the most flavour. The hot sauces were vinegar-based, not burn your mouth kind of hot, and had good flavour. The extra spicy was spicy but not overly so. I also tried the carnitas taco and it was delicious. The pork was very tender and juicy. It came with radish, guacamole, fresh salsa verde, and it was supposed to also have homemade pickled onions, but I didn't see or taste any. I believe they make their tortillas in-house, so that added to the flavour of the tacos for sure. I was excited about the tamales (one order comes with two). Every time I order tamales they sort of just come on their own, wrapped. These came served in the banana leaf, but unwrapped and topped with sour cream, queso fresco, and cilantro. They were vegetarian, stuffed with chipil, which I've never had before. It's a leafy green vegetable and Google says it's like a cross between watercress and spinach, and I'd say that's pretty accurate. To my surprise, there was also a big piece of cheese in the middle (lengthwise). As a big cheese lover, I approve haha! The tamales were so, so good. Nice change from what I normally have. My husband had the nachos with chicken - protein was an extra $6.50 but guac (two scoops!) was included. They were also topped with beans, cheese, pico de Gallo, pickled jalapeños, and sour cream. They were the most expensive item (already $20 without the chicken), but they were tasty. My husband's not into guac, so I ate both scoops and I can't complain lol. He got the Mexican Coca-Cola and I got the cafe de olla (Mexican coffee). The Coke is different because it's made with cane sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup and it comes in a bottle. I love Mexican food, well I love all food, but I really love Mexican food, so I was super excited when I found out a new Mexican restaurant had opened up where Cabana's Kitchen used to be (yeah, I know, Cabana's Kitchen was only open for like 3 months, but their food wasn't that tasty IMO, so I think it was smart of them to close). Anyway, I am happy to report that this new Margarita Restaurant is awesome! So I went on a Wednesday and they have a Wednesday Burrito Special where you can get a 10" burrito (chicken, pork, beef, or vegetarian) with salad or chips for $9.99. The regular price is $14.99. I went with the beef burrito with salad, and it was delicious! When they brought out the plate I knew it was legit because the salad had cactus in it (aka prickly pear), lol. The salad was good. It had romaine lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cheese, and pieces of prickly pear cactus. The dressing was tangy. The burrito was big and filled with pulled beef, beans, rice, guacamole, and onions. It was very flavourful and had a good amount of meat in it. The beef was tender and delicious. I really enjoyed my meal, and I really enjoyed the price! ;) I was served by Emilio, the owner. He was very nice and friendly. The place is super cool. They have a little bar area and in the evenings they have a DJ and dancing. Some nights they have karaoke too. They also have salsa classes some nights. There's a little fireplace by the front, and Emilio said they were going to change a few more things. They just opened December 5, 2019. Like I mentioned earlier, Margarita Restaurant is where Cabana's Kitchen was (the space was The Soup Guy before that). Cute curb appeal but a big disappointment. My spicy margarita was a powder mix with some cayenne on the rim of the glass (terrible). Waitress was sweet and helpful. Don't be fooled by the Scan and Order card on the table....you are not supposed to use it. The food was 'food court quality' at best. No one showed up at the table for quite some time. We ordered and paid for our meals to come to Table A4 only to find out that this was 'new' feature added today and the serving staff wasn't advised on the change in process. July 11, 2021: There was a big wait at all the restaurants at Lansdowne Park. I think my dad and I came to get my mom at the end of her art show and we were looking for a place to watch the Euro Cup. So we walked down Bank St and found @margaritaottawa. There was no outdoor TV, but we wanted food. The patio was lovely and made me feel like I was at a resort in Mexico. Service was non-existent....our server and other staff seemed more focused on sitting down and feeding themselves from the buffet, and my order-the mollettes dish was a bowl of sauce, which buried the tortillas and shredded chicken and served room temperature-Our bill for 4 people was over $200!!!!!-would NEVER EVER again!!! read more

RUDE OWNER & LOUSY SERVICE We wanted to enjoy the sun and have a relaxing drink on the patio. It took several minutes to be seated even though it wasn't busy. We ordered drinks, a beer for my partner and a lime margarita for me. The waitress dropped off the drinks and said she would be right back to take our food order. The beer was much smaller than indicated in the menu and the margarita tasted watered down. No sign of the waitress but we eventually got someone's attention and the beer issue was resolved. There was live "entertainment" . It was amateurish at best. We finally ordered. I was done my drink before the food came but was never given the opportunity to order another drink. The nachos were good but no one came to check on us. It was mid afternoon and not busy enough to justify the lack of service. The man who had helped us resolve the beer issue came by the table to ask how the meal was. I told him the food was good but terrible service. He walked away to the next table and rolled his eyes while I was still talking. Rude!! The people at the next table had had bad service as well and he didn't seem to interested in their concerns either. Why ask if you don't want the answer? Food was absolutely incredible. Service not so much. I would recommend going for a lunch service instead of dinner for better service. The ambiance in the evening seemed quite confusing with the presence of a mariachi band, DJ, and dancing acts. Not the place if you want to have a serious conversation. read more

The best Mexican food I have tried in Ottawa the service was good and the ambiance was cozy

Picked food up in person for takeout. They forgot the drink, then when reminded said they had omitted it because they ran out of takeout cups (we had already paid for it). We got "Fajitas for 2" which cost us $35. The amount of food included was comically small. Tiny plastic containers with no more than 1 tablespoon each of pico de gallo, guacamole, etc. There was a tiny amount of black beans - roughly 2 tablespoons each. A tiny amount of chicken, and just 6 corn tortillas (the small ones you'd typically eat doubled up in normal taco shops). I included a photo with this review to illustrate how silly it was. All of this would be excusable if the food were delicious and filling, but it was neither. The chicken and peppers were soggy, with not a hint of char. The rest of the sides were unimpressive; watery guac, what appeared to be canned jalapeños. Avoid this place. read more

I was at this restaurant last night with my wife and her best friend. Emilio - the owner and his colleague served us. Unbelievably amazing. Tamarind Margarita and classic lime were delicious. Mojito was perfect. The burritos were authentic and not your run of the mill chain restaurant. So wonderful. I had the salad with it and it was fresh and yummy. The service was friendly and attentive, the music was classy and subdued. The atmosphere would be great for a date, business lunch, friends, or just on your own as I saw a couple of people doing at the bar. Everyone I spoke to had the same experience - delicious and we will come back. You've just got to try it!!!!!!!!! read more

The absolute worst service I've ever experienced at a restaurant anywhere. All staff members were unfriendly, we waited a half hour before our server came to take our order and we were never even given so much as a glass of water (even though we asked for water multiple times and servers constantly walked by with water jugs and glasses for other tables). Myself and my co-patron both ordered drinks, appetizers and main courses, but only our main courses were delivered. Our server never came to check on us before or after our food was delivered and there were multiple tables who arrived after us who received their orders for drinks appetizers and mains before us. It very much felt that our server was providing a quality of service based on how well she assumed people tip their servers. I know times are difficult with covid, which is why I have been tipping servers 20% and up for their service but with the horrendous service our waitress delivered, we left only enough tip for our server to make her tip out. I will never be coming back to this restaurant which is a shame because I loved going to that location when it was a restaurant under a different name. read more

This is the first time I've had really authentic Mexican food in Ottawa. I lived in Latin American for a few years and have visited Mexico on vacation and traveled around extensively and I was delighted and impressed. This is food that you can't easily find - and it's healthy and there are plenty of excellent vegan options. We also had great service by the owner who good-naturedly chatted with me in Spanish. I don't go to restaurants often, but this one impressed me enough that I've returned to it a couple of times since the first visit. Yummy! read more
