I really loved the idea of the pick and choose brunch menu, so I was sure to include this on my itinerary. I got the 3 selections which was honestly a good amount for me. I definitely reccomend getting the bread, the rye was amazing and so moist, almost spongy! I also got the scrambled eggs, good if maybe a bit watery, and the romesco cream cheese was amazing on the bread. I also got a cappuccino which was great. Stopped here for dinner with a friend and enjoyed the ravioli and the "hot honey chicken nuggets". The staff were helpful and service was fairly quick, and the ambiance was nice and calm despite fairly close seating near the end of our meal as others arrived. I think this is a nice spot if you want to walk around the nearby shops in Copenhagen. I would stop by there again for a quick bite, and might recommend it more for lunch or a light dinner. read more

I've been thinking about the breakfast we had here for weeks! I loved being able to pick and choose what items to eat for breakfast, though it was difficult to narrow it down. 5 items was a solid amount without being too much and everything was delicious. The space is bright and charming and everyone was so friendly. We came without a reservation at a fairly busy time and the host graciously rearranged some things and found a way to get us seated. Officially one of the best brunches I have ever had in my life. You get to choose whether you want 3, 5, or 7 items from several categories including vegetables, pastries, meat, dairy, etc. When the food comes out (quite quickly), it has an absolutely beautiful presentation and is honestly way more filling than you would think. I ordered 5 options and would have been perfectly content with only 3! Order the mango chai tea. Again, one of the best I have ever tasted (and this is one of my favorite drinks... tasted a lot!). I love this location on Amager for several reasons: the staff is so lovely and welcoming, the space is open and accommodating with two levels, offering a friendly layout and chill vibe. They do it all so well - from brunching to dinner and coffee to hot chocolate. I actually learned to say my order in Danish because I became a regular. "Må jeg få varm chokolade med oat mælk, tak." You will not be disappointed! ;) I made it a mission to come in to read my book from cover to cover, and in turn, have made several friends in the process. Came here a few of weeks ago with a friend who's allergic to wheat. Sorry to say there were not many choices left for her - even the oatmeal has wheat in it! Luckily she loves avocado and healthy stuff so she was happy! We came just a bit after 9:30am and had to wait a little bit. It was cold but we were offered blankets while we waited. And the hostess was super cheerful and gave us an update of who was next whenever a table left. This was great as it added to the lovely experience we had inside. Our server was careful to check with the chef on which items contains wheat, and was happy to offer soya milk for my special needs friend! The setting is great. Very similar to the Vesterbro one but a bit smaller I think? Both are great venues for a special breakfast lunch because it's quite pricey! Five stars? How did that happen to a cafe that doesn't serve anything Asian on the menu? For a start - the service is excellent. Fair enough that you couldn't reserve a table for breakfast, but you definitely could for lunch / dinner. I booked mine online and was met with friendly service altogether. There's this woman (probably manager of the place) that was constantly hovering around the place (not as in looking over your shoulder kind of creep, but more like keeping her eyes sharp and making sure you get everything you need). She also apologized to me twice for forgetting my extra fries, that's ok - that happens now and then, as long as you are not in blatant denial that you did forget the order as I have seen many waitresses done in many cafes. A smile and a sincere apology does help a lot to calm a (h)angry customer. Maybe it's just her, maybe she's earned five gold stars all the way in Diner Dash. Food - They don't serve dinner per se, since the kitchen closes at 19.00 but an extended lunch is more like it, after all this is not a "proper" restaurant, but a cafe that specializes in brunch. I ordered the tartar and fish fillet smørrebrød and the extra fries (that she forgot) after Mina K tricked me into it (long story). I was not quite impressed with fish fillet (although there were two pieces on the bread, to show that they were not being stingy, but the tartar was good. But you know what? FORGET ABOUT IT. ORDER THE BURGER INSTEAD! It's good! Mina got hers with fried egg (15 kr extra cmiiw) and that was good (I got to eat half of it). Meat was perfectly medium rare and it was surprisingly a lot better than some burger restaurants I have been to. ORDER THE BURGER! ORDER THE BURGER! and this self-proclaimed fries connoisseur approved the fries. Yes, the fries were good as well, crispy (possibly double fried) and thick. Perhaps a tad too much salt flakes on it, but hey I don't care. The dip was somewhat meh, but who cares. Lemonade that came in a jar (so hipster!) was also good. I ain't have a single complaint about this place. All sailing smooth into the five star land. That's just the way it goes. A perfect near ending for my crappy (work) day yesterday. We got the yelp check in bonus meaning we're paying only half of our bill that was excellent. I ended up paying 120 DKK for all the food overload (we shared the meal so the bill was also split in three), it was probably a tad expensive for not a "proper" restaurant to end up with a bill of 240 DKK, but hey it's perfectly OK cafe price in Copenhagen, and with good service and good burger, I'm not going to complain, especially because it's located in Amager - the island that had been quite dry of good culinary experience. read more

Came for lunch two days ago and came back to enjoy my last morning in Copenhagen. I was amazed at the quality of their open sandwiches earlier but their breakfast is even better. I am in the lucky position to live 15 minutes away from Wulff and Konstali and 2 minutes from mad & Kaffe by foot. Why would I also mention Wulff and Konstali, you ask. Because this is her little sister, I reply. Just without the cake and bread. I went for the brunch here and it was all it could possibly be. The food was delicious (the croissant was to die for!) and the coffee hit the spot in the best way possible as I was struggling to maintain a coherent personality the day after a particularly wild night with drag shows and beer pong. I was really indecisive about giving Mad & Kaffe 3 or 4 stars, but I am ending up giving them 4 because I don't think some parts of my experience would happen again if I was to return another time. This place is very hyped up on social media so I was so excited when they opened their second location and decided to offer 50% off the menu the first week. It was a great idea to attract new customers (especially those who don't near Amager), but they really needed to execute it a little better. Not surprisingly, because of the Yelp discount there were busier than they probably would have been otherwise and therefore there was a wait for a table pretty soon after they opened. We went on the last day of the discount right when they opened to beat the crowds and easily picked out our table. Over the course of the next hour it became quickly packed and noticeably louder. I don't think this is something that will change as time goes on - the layout of the restaurant is a little cramped and when it's full there's just no way around it being loud inside. I know this isn't the fault of the restaurant, but there were SO many families with kids there, all of which happened to be quite loud. The menu can easily be kid-friendly so I wasn't surprised by all the families. Our server was nice, but we weren't given much attention during our meal. We didn't really need anything, but she didn't ask and also didn't explain to us how the Yelp deal worked or where to pay later. When we went to the cash register to pay we were very rushed by the guy behind the counter who pointed out that we weren't finding our Yelp deal fast enough and that there were people waiting to pay behind us. I know they were busy so I don't think this would happen again, but I think it shows that they weren't fully prepared to handle the opening week or the crowds. On to the food - we each ordered 5 things and they were all pretty good. I would recommend the sausages, yogurt and cinnamon roll in particular. You can order a basket of bread as one of your options, but I wouldn't suggest it. It was underwhelming and in my opinion should come with the meal. The smoked salmon is great quality but they don't give you much cream cheese with it, which is a shame because I thought it was really good. Overall the food is pretty good and I think even at full price it's a nice breakfast. The quality of the food is pretty good, but the presentation of it makes it feel nicer. I ordered a filtered coffee and though it was good it was only filled up 2/3 of the way. I thought this was an accident until I ordered a refill (great that they have this option for 10kr) and it was filled up the same amount. I didn't order a juice but those around me looked good. Overall: Food - pretty good, atmosphere - nice, but loud, service - could be better. If you're in the area I would recommend this place for breakfast, but on a weekday instead of a weekend. I'll return again to give them another try and will update this review once I do. read more

Hmm.. more and more reasons to come out to Amager are popping up recently. We came here specifically to take advantage of their 50% off deal this week. Yeah, sure, there is a Mad & Kaffe located in Vesterbro, but the service at this one is above and beyond the price range. As soon as I walked in, a lady greeted me cheerfully and was ready to show me a table. Although I was 10 minutes early there was already a menu sitting on the table that we reserved in advance, and as soon as I sat down she brought two more for my dinnermates even though they hadn't arrived yet. The menu is short and sweet and that is how I like it; too many items is a red flag, unless you are at Magasasa. (; Shortly after Eva arrived, our server returned to the table to ask if we wanted a drink while waiting and then brought them over promptly. The lemonade (35 dkk?) was superb; perfectly balanced between sweet and sour although I couldn't taste much of the advertised mint until the end. And you get quite a bit of it; I drink a lot and it lasted me through the meal. In the middle of the café there are pitchers of water with mint, and I LOVE easy access free water anywhere I go. That always gets points from me. I was planning on getting the smoked salmon sandwich or two smørrebrød, but when I saw a server walk by with a burger (129 dkk) I immediately changed my mind. And you can add an egg to it for 15 dkk, which you can bet your ass I did! It was perfectly cooked to be slightly runny in the middle, and the patty was medium rare as stated in the menu. The bread is really good; pretty and dark and just slightly sweet. Just a solid burger overall. The fries were great too, I suspect they were double fried for maximum crispiness. For dip I went with the truffle mayo (which comes in a funny little milkcan!) and although I always prefer ketchup with my fries, I have to admit that I used that dip for half of them. The truffle flavour comes through pleasantly, not like a punch in the face and not that old, rancid truffle oil taste either. I was burping truffles for the rest of the evening, not that I'm complaining. I also got to try a bit of Eva's tatarmad (70 dkk) and rødspættefilet (65 dkk) which cost 110 dkk when you get two. The bread is good and they are stacked high! The tartare was well-seasoned with capers and some kind of sweet relish on top which did well to cut through the meat flavour; it could have been overwhelming with too much raw meat and truffle mayo. Unfortunately the fish was just not that interesting although I have never been impressed by it in the past anywhere else unless the breading was super crispy. It was not bad at all, I would rather use my stomach space for something else. The food is above average for a café but the service was well past what I was expecting. Our server came by to check on us and take our plates at the right moments and was just very nice in general. Sometimes when eating at a café you can feel ignored or rushed but you can relax here and get a great meal. Also important to note is that this place has huge windows so there is as much natural light as possible for food photos. :P read more

We kept waiting when we entered at the door and nobody cared to even walk us in. The food portions are Extremely small and the pictures we checked online made it seem big on their instagram page and thats how we kinda fell for the scam.
