I love Mad Mary's to get ice cream! I spoke to Mary about ordering a particular flavor that I enjoyed from another place that closed its doors and she actually ordered it for me and it's been amazing! I go and get 6 scoops at a time so that I can enjoy my ice cream for the 6 months a year that I live here for! Really nice gift shop in Joseph Oregon. There aren't as many shops there as I had previously thought so this one was quite a nice surprise. I liked all the rustic souvenirs and bought a couple things for our house. Clerks are kind of hard to find but they don't bother you either. I like that! read more

Current mask mandate in Oregon and there was a sign on the front door declaring masks mandatory to enter store. The first time we we went in, a group of 4/5 came in maskless so we left and went next door. We came back to buy a sticker book for my daughter and a woman behind the counter (wearing no mask) erupted into a coughing fit so bad she had to run to the back. Several other (masked) shoppers gave me wide eyes in equal shock. I hope my 67 year old mother and I didn't catch covid in there. read more

WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!! Walked into the soda shop on our way out from Wallowa Lake to get ice cream. I was holding my 2 chihuahuas in my arms and started walking in the shop. The lady working VERY rudely told me there were no animals allowed in the shop because of Oregon law and food establishments. Hey, no problem! I tied my dogs up outside the shop. But the way she talked to me was rediculous. There was a group of about 13 of us. This woman did not smile at us once, or have any kind of warm attitude that I would expect and deserve when giving our patronage to the soda shop. I ordered the vanilla frozen yogurt. I thought it was soft serve, my bad! When she handed me the cone, I said "is that the soft serve?" She rudely answered, "we don't have soft serve, it's frozen yogurt." I said, "oh ok, thank you." No response. At that point I had no desire to eat the ice cream. I have never felt so disrespected when I am paying you for a treat and I have not been rude to you in the slightest. I had a wonderful family vacation and the last moments of my trip were spoiled by the horrible woman behind the counter of the Mad Mary soda shop. I will NEVER go back there!!! I wanted to throw my ice cream cone at the window of the shop or better yet on the floor or in the lady's face. But I settled for "your ice cream sucks!" as we walked back to our car. read more

An attempted throwback to a fifties malt shop in beautiful Joseph. Good staff, clean, air-conditioned and a strong wireless signal. Went there twice. Decent lattes and a terrific huckleberry milkshake. Lots of good-looking sweets but no other food. This is definitely a place for an early morning latte or a snack. I bet kids would love it! read more

I am just surprised on how amazing this place was!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are a gift shop and a soda shop in one place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went in the gift shop and it was packed with stuff!!! It was like the place was filled up to the ceiling!!!!!!! I went in the back of the gift shop and I saw Christmas stuff in the back in the middle of summer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I went to the soda shop and it felt like I was in the 1950s. I went to the counter to get a milkshake and the milkshake was very good. On the walls in the soda shop, there is coke memorabilia all over and I was amazed how much they had!!!!! Also in the gift shop there is these buckets and shelves full of candy that is very hard to find. For the kids, there is a section full of toys like cars, cap guns, and those green army figures. Overall, this place is great. I recommend going here. read more
