They let us crawl all over their mattresses (respectfully of course) until we found one that felt right and we could afford. They didn't try to sell us more than we could afford; and when they delivered, on-time as promised, they also helped my wife return a fairly heavy dry sink to its original spot since we had to move it so they could get the mattress into the house. Great people. Great experience. Great mattress. What more could anyone ask for?

I drove to this joint and met up with Shaun there. I gives him the third degree about mattresses. After bump'in gums awhile I decide this dude knows more about mattresses than I does box jobs. And I know a lot about box jobs. He tries to get me a custom cut size mattress, cause I'm a customized kind of cat. But the crew that helps him do custom orders ain't gonna make it happen. Still, he tries for me and gets back to me right away when it won't work. Was a time a goon like me could get a custom fitted suit, shoes to match and a broad in a matching dress to go. Those days are gone. But enough of my blathering on. This joint ain't no flim flam. When Shaun couldn't make the custom thing happen he made me a "deal you can't refuse" ... my Godfather would be proud to have him in the family. He even loaded it on my truck. Loaded it in the alley in the daylight even, unusual for me, I'm more of a after midnight out the back discount shopper. So when you look around your crib and it looks like a hurricane of pizza boxes and dirty glasses have just passed thru knocking over the crates you use for tables. If you want a soft place to sit and a decent nights sleep, motor on down there. Who could say, if you do, some dame might even be willing to come over. Shaun created a deal for the cabbage I wanted to lay down for me. He might for you too. Talk to him in the back. That's where all the good deals are made. Tell him Hammer sent cha. Now, I'mma dust on outta here ...

Mattress Quest, Chapter One…read more My current mattress had been used in my parent's guest room, was only a full size, and was not the highest quality (not even close). This worked out great until I tossed in a 6' boyfriend and an obese cat. The nightly battle for space and blankets has become enough of a headache that I decided it was finally time to bite the bullet. It had been years since I bought a quality bed and was open to pretty much anything. Foam, gel, standard coil, and any mix in between. The only type I was dead set against was a water bed. I blame flashbacks to bad 80s T&A flicks for this. Living in Baker City, the obvious choice was to explore the local furniture stores first. Stop number one: Courtesy Home Furnishings on Main St. The largest furniture store in Baker, Courtesy has three levels and quite a bit of merchandise. Being a weekday afternoon, we walked into an empty showroom and casually made our way toward the staircase leading to the lower level where the bedroom items are located. Taking a few quick glances at sofa sectionals that will be our next big project after the mattress as we past. We made pleasantries with the floor associate that greeted us and told her we were just doing a preliminary search for options - that we wouldn't be ready to buy until next month. She walked with us downstairs and explained the brands they carried. We didn't feel any pressure and she left us to our own devices with orders to actually lay down on each of the beds for at least a minute or two. Courtesy had a modest collection of brands including foam and regular spring. We took our time with each mattress and followed the advice to fully lay down for a moment or two. This really does help in the decision making process. I found that I am not a fan of 100% foam and wasn't overly wow'd by anything there. The sales staff didn't hover over us and checked back in just frequently enough to let us know they hadn't forgotten us, making us feel comfortable. The prices were average after doing some comparison browsing online, but since nothing had the "just right" feel, we will continue the hunt.

Mattress Quest, Chapter Two…read more Home Furnishing Liquidators, in the Radio Shack building. Moderately sized showroom with the bedroom section in the rear of the store. As we made our way towards our destination we greeted a couple floor staff and said we were just test driving mattresses trying to find one we liked. An older lady walked with us towards the back and explained the Serta brand offerings, also advising us to lay on each of them. We assured her we would do just that and will report back when done. We spent more time here than we had at the previous home furnishings store because we found that we both liked the Serta iSeries. The iSeries being a mix between foam and wrapped coil, producing a perfect balance between firm and soft support. After narrowing it down to just one of the many in the series, we made our way back to the manager's desk. I had a few questions that I wanted to have answered before seriously considering dropping $2500. My first questions, and I was much more tactful about this when asking: "is the price negotiable?". I love a good haggle and I hate paying too much. I was kindly informed that Serta is fair trade and sets the manufactures prices regardless of where it is sold. The store selling it has no control over price, and therefore cannot offer a discount. I was then told that she offered two types of credit line if I couldn't afford to pay cash (slightly miffing me). One was with G.E. Money Bank and one was with a slightly less reputable company that had high interest rates for those that didn't have good credit. This was very disappointing so I started in on my other tactic: "Ok, if I pay you $2500 cash right now, what else would you throw in?" hoping to get at least a couple pillows and a mattress cover or cheap metal frame. Sadly, this also proved to be an exercise in futility because she was not negotiable on freebees either. Not even local delivery right here in Baker. She said that she believed the owners were having an in-store incentive of $200 when you bought over a certain amount next month, but was not sure and told me to check the flyers in the next few weeks. If I can find another retailer that sells my particular mattress I will buy from them just based on the underwhelming conversation with the sales lady.

We received in in late January/early February, when it was supposed to arrive before Christmas 2013. The chairs are poor quality. I contacted the store and they are unwilling to honor their product; and the person I spoke to (Ken) was extremely rude to me. We will not buy at Homr Furnishings in Baker City again.

I tossed the chair on my burn pile. Cost me over a hunnert bucks. I told this palooka when I bought the chair I'd remember where I bought it if it wasn't any good. Bottom line: Joints like this usually sell crap. Cheap chinese crap. You know da drill. If you shop here, they'll tell you what you want to hear. That doesn't make it so.
