It's hard to find specialty coffee especially co-ferment coffee beans roasted in town. I typically have to purchase online sourced elsewhere. Patricia D posted this place on Yelp and so I had to check out their coffee menu and products. Low and behold they roast co-ferment coffee. Amazing enough they're local with a few locations scattered through DtLA and west of. Co-ferment coffee is a process where a coffee producer typically harvest single origin coffee cherries and uses a fermenting process along with yeast and fruit for days and dried to obtain a obtain particular fruit notes. Typically, a roaster like Mad Lab will roast the green coffee beans in their own ways to obtain their signature flavor notes for the type of coffee brew. Awesome to see the local and I typically purchase their lychee, passion fruit and green apple co-ferment coffee beans. Worth trying if you don't care for nutty, chocolatey, spicy, earthy or bitter type coffee roast. Coffee beans here are smooth with fruit notes.

I love popping into independent coffee shops (or local chains) when I travel. This was my LA stop in on my most recent trip. The coffee and pastries were good. My friend's everything bagel croissant was chock full of cream cheese. My chocolate chip cookie was really good. My coffee was interesting. I tried one of the specialty coffees, the Dreamsickle, iced. It was basically an orange mocha. In retrospect, it needed some sweeting. It was true to flavor, but my brain kept expecting "sweet" to be part of the flavor profile and it wasn't. Service was really slow, especially considering they weren't that busy, but the staff was friendly. It seems like this is a place people hang out. We were there for a bit and there wasn't much turn. The space was bright and clean. I also really appreciated their merch, even though I didn't buy anything. Definitely worth a stop if you need a caffeine fix in downtown LA.

I love their logo! Aren't we all a little dead inside before having our first cup of coffee? I've been to their Hollywood location, which is more to-go with outside seating. This location is nice and spacious, with plenty of seating, perfect for remote work. I had the espresso tonic. The espresso was perfect, with no acidity. It was refreshing and mellow. I appreciated the addition of an orange slice. Most citrus helps bridge the gap between espresso and tonic water. I paid about $7.16, including tip, which is affordable compared to the typical prices around town. They have a ready-to-eat fridge with sodas, canned lattes, and juices. The staff are awesome! They were welcoming and engaged. They checked how my drink tasted. I'll be adding this cafe to my rotation.

Easily the best espresso tonic I've ever had, which has been my new drink of choice the last 4-5 years. Beautiful presentation, coffee was strong but rich, tonic was bubbly and refreshing and the dried lemon slice rounded it out well. Not sweet at all, just how I like it. Great atmosphere, was able to work at a table for about 4-5 hours, only left around 4pm because the customers next to me thought it was ok to openly watch movies with full volume and talk on the phone.... Make sure to bring your headphones. Bathroom is pristine, but will need the code.

Mad Lab Coffee isn't just a coffee shop born in DTLA; it's a testament to the dedication that owner, Andrew, has poured into every aspect. Quality coffee, creative menus, and loving community. I am so happy that they opened their newest location in DTLA in March 2025, as an addition to their existing locations in Hollywood, Mid-City, and Mar Vista. Their rapid expansion shows how their quality coffee has been successful at each community. This DTLA location has plenty of seats, cozy vibe, nice open barista counters to chat with their staff, power plugs, and clean bathrooms. For a black coffee aficionado like myself, the bean selection and roasting technique are paramount, and Mad Lab delivers in spades. Their offerings are diverse and meticulously curated, showcasing single origins to co-fermented (Blackberry, Lychee, etc.). Every cup I have tried gave me such a pleasant journey with both complex and satisfyingly smooth touch. While I personally lean towards black coffee, they have very creative and enticing latte options - Cherry Pie Latte, Fig-based Old Fashion etc. as well. Cups of Americanos I have got from many of their staff members at Mad Lab Coffee have been the best ones I have tasted. I'm a huge fan of their crafts. It's a true L.A. gem.

Ordered: CUP OF JOE When I saw their sparkling water dispenser, that's when I knew someone cooked here. Their Joe was pretty gas. Honestly wouldn't even get anything else because the quality of their regular coffee is fire would recommend. Barista was fast to grab my order. very good place to work. nice vibes

Great spot right in the middle of DTLA for a reliable pour-over. Plenty of places to charge your phone and laptop and get some work done

Amazing drinks, ambiance, service, everything. Location is kind of unfortunate, but they have wifi, outlets, a restroom, amazing looking pastries!! Everything you need for a successful study session.

I went yesterday, cute spot, decent latte, very, very nice staff - the matcha looked very light but my friend enjoyed it. will definitely return

I tried the chai and asked for one of their seasonal specialities so it was yam flavored! Really delicious, one of my favorite chai's I've had. Really spacious location with plenty of tables if you want to stay and work.

The baristas were incredibly friendly, and my drink was fantastic. I thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, which was perfect for a weekend. I'm glad I stumbled upon this local gem; I'll definitely be returning for more.

When I went to pick it up, I grabbed a saucer to avoid spilling on my way back to my seat. Before I could even walk away, one of the baristas snatched it from my hand and said, "You're not allowed to use that. The saucers go with the latte mugs!" I paused, glanced at the empty café behind me, and replied, "There are plenty available--surely I can use one." He continued, in a dismissive tone, speaking to me in a way that felt unnecessarily disrespectful. I chose to walk away and still enjoy my pour-over. But it's not just about serving good coffee. As Maya Angelou reminds us, people will always remember how you made them feel. And in this space, I felt unwelcome. As a paying customer--one who tipped in advance--that behavior felt undeserved and unwarranted. For that reason, there's no need to return.

I stopped by around noontime and there were people inside/outside chatting, working, taking pics in the photobooth, etc. The line went by quickly and I had my hojicha einspanner in no time! It was so tasty!! The cream top was light and not too sweet. The hojicha was smooth. I really enjoyed it, and the latte definitely helped me keep cool while driving around LA on such a hot day. I stumbled across their Yelp page when I was visiting from out of town and checked the Instagram for their hours on a Saturday afternoon and was happy to see they were open! I am a sucker for pop-up coffee shop/cart concepts so I had to check it out. The pop-up is easy to find, it's outside facing into the parking lot, and they had a cute A-frame sign out by the street side. There was no line, and I ordered and sat down at one of the tables out front. The service was so warm, and I believe the shop is owned and operated by one man on his own! He was an absolute delight to meet, and he brought my matcha latte to me at the table when it was prepared. He suggested I get the cream top on it, and boy was that the perfect recommendation. I would say I'm a little bit of a matcha fiend... I think I got a matcha latte at 3 different places this day... and this one far surpassed the others. I think it was one of the best matcha lattes I have ever drank to-date. It was perfectly green, the matcha quality was phenomenal, both taste and look-wise. The texture was just right, perfectly creamy with barely any grittiness. The cream top only added to the drink, and didn't take away from the matcha flavor at all, which I feel like has happened at other places for me. I'm dreaming of this matcha latte days later, and need to go back to Kokoro No Coffee as soon as I am in town again. This was a spectacular find, and I hope this spot gets all the love it deserves! There is truly nothing like a great business ran by a great person and you can tell there's so much intention put into this concept. Highly, highly recommend and I could not sing praises more!

The café is located within an apartment complex and offers underground parking, which the coffee shop validates the first hour is only $3. Street parking is also available. You follow the café signs to an elevator, and once you arrive, you're welcomed into a moody, beautiful space. DOGS ARE ALLOWED which is awesome. There's plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. The outdoor area feels like a balcony terrace combo with a small but lovely view of the LA skyline. We sat here and our doggo enjoyed a nap in the sun. It's a great spot to work, study, or catch up with friends without feeling cramped or rushed. The staff was incredibly kind, welcoming, and friendly. They offer a nice variety of drinks, and we ordered an iced matcha latte and a hot Madagascar vanilla latte. For pastries, we chose a guava madeleine and a cookie butter madeleine. Everything is made fresh, and they actually whisk the matcha for each drink, which really shows in the quality. Our drinks came out quickly and were delicious. I loved my matcha, and my husband really enjoyed his latte. The pastries were also great, especially the cookie butter madeleine. This café is dog-friendly, which is a nice bonus. They only validate for 30 minutes, which honestly feels short given the setup. The vibes are immaculate though. Excellent music selection and sound quality -- it made the space really easy to focus in (unless you hate music). That alone elevated the experience a lot for me. I went on a Monday around 5 PM and they had no food available, which was disappointing because the kimchi fried rice sounded amazing. I ordered the matcha, and it was genuinely excellent. The foam had a slight saltiness to it that paired really well with the drink, and the matcha itself tasted high quality. I wouldn't change anything about it. My drink came out to around $9 including tip. Overall, I really liked this place and would probably come here often if I lived nearby. Between the expensive parking, limited outlet-to-seat ratio, and lack of food during my visit, I'd give it a solid 4/5.
