We recently moved which means that I haven't really had to deal with finding a new oil change mechanic up until now. Luckily (and I hope I'm not jinxing it!) nothing has gone wrong with the car up until now, so after reading the good review here, I figured I'd try Mad Hatter for my oil change. I called on a Tuesday, and they were able to make a flexible appointment time for me for whatever worked best on Thursday. They quoted me between a half-an-hour and a hour to get it done, and they let me know they had a waiting room to sit in. As the other review says, the parking lot here is a bit of a pain. The employees seem used to backing out giant SUVs and pick-ups here and didn't seem to have a moment of hesitation, but I was glad I had a tiny 4-door sedan to deal with. I had room to back out, but it definitely was not one of my more favorite places to park. I checked in for my appointment, and I told them that I'd be going next door to Brick House Yogurt to have a snack while I waited. Not only did they say that they'd probably have it done within 20 minutes, but they also gave me some coupons to save on my purchase over at Brick House. Yay! When I walked out of the building, they were already pulling in my car for the oil change. Turns out that Brick House was closed (boo! Also, as a note, Brick House Yogurt is less than a half-block away, so you easily can drop off your car and go get a treat while you wait), so I ended up waiting in the waiting room. The chairs are comfortable enough, and there was an educational video playing about tire alignment. It was actually really helpful as I didn't know most of that information. In about 30 total minutes, my car was done, and I paid. You get a 5% discount for paying with cash, so my total came out to about $29 for my oil change. Definitely not too bad! They were super friendly throughout the transaction, and my car was nicely parked back in the parking lot. As a sidenote, the "oil change reminder" stickers they place in the upper-left-hand corner of your car windows are definitely a LOT less gaudy than most places. It's see-through, and it just has tiny typed-in details that work as a reminder without being annoying. It's half the size of the last sticker the mechanic put in, and I like it much better. Final Thoughts: I'll definitely be coming back. Along with being close to one of my favorite places to snack, the service was super friendly and very quick. My car is happy again, and I know where I'll be coming back when I next need an oil change. read more

Stopped in to get a price quote for dual exhaust on an older pickup. Guy was rude and didn't want to quote anything. When he finally did he gave me a price of $2200 to $2500! Thanked him for his time and took it to a shop in Sumner, IA who did a great job for $500. Never will I step foot in or recommend Mad Hatter to anyone. read more

No hassle and no pressure here. Years ago my ex and I used this place for all our vehicle needs and were very happy. After my divorce I got a new car and was repeatedly disappointed with my dealership experiences so I decided to go back. I got a next day appointment for an oil change. I waited while they took care of my car. The seating in the waiting area is comfy. The owner was super nice and chatted with me for awhile. It was $32. He talked to me about the wear and tear on my tires but absolutely no pressure to buy. I will be back for my next oil change and when I decide to get tires. The only negative is they have very limited parking. read more

Very rude on the phone. I called today to ask about the Priuses they have for sale and the guy was not at all kind or helpful. I asked what he could tell me about a couple specific ones and his response was " well they run and drive". I asked if they had car-fax on any of the cars: he said " car-fax cost $40 and is just a scam and a joke. So i asked how i would know is they had ever been in accident and he did not respond. Then i finally asked if i could come look at them tomorrow (which would be Saturday) and he very rudely said " well tomorrow is Saturday" then he paused for a little bit " we're not open on Saturdays." I bought a Prius from here a year ago. I am currently a delivery driver and have put about 28000 Miles on it since then. It has been a great car. Has been getting 42-25 mpg the whole time. Ended up having a battery regenerative charging issue by no fault of the sellers... John diagnosed the problem and after replacing the bad cells there was still issues with the other cells. He didn't want to do a partial fix and expressed concern that within the next month or year it would start having additional issues so he replaced it with a remanufactured battery from dorman. He didn't nickel and dime the time it was taking and only charged slightly over what was quoted for the new battery. He came in way under the dealer. About $2000 under. I always refer people to him. Extremely pleased!!! read more

Built my fathers exhaust system wrong in his truck, now spare tire wont fit where its supposed to. They really didnt care.

I have went to Mad Hatter for years until the current owner/manager took over. John Lappe is his name I think. This place is no longer reliable. Everytime I had them fix my car , I have had to refix the same problem within 1-2 years. Last time I went they left my car window down and it poured rain inside it. They did not even clean it up! My car radio stopped working after that. Do not go to this place! read more

So impressed with these guys. It is hard to find a place you can trust when you don't know a whole lot about cars. They replaced the guard over the catalytic converter that had fallen off and told me that was all that was wrong with my exhaust system. I really appreciate the honesty and service! Mad Hatter quoted me a price that was more than twice as much as what I eventually paid to get my car fixed. Buyer beware.

Rude and condensending. Followed with offer of slow overpriced service. Virtually any where in town will treat you better.

Called for an estimate for my car, talked to a service man to see how much it would cost for a tune up, he said he would have to see it himself, I totally understood that, but then I asked his if it was a free estimate, he was rudly and said, NO, why would it be a free estimate, insulting me. Complete scammers! Single mom here, went in to get FREE LOOK at my car for an annoying noise my car was making. They go to pull it into the garage and suddenly the car doesnt start. I had never had any problems with it starting prior and had run errands that morning with NO problems. They say it will take about 2 days to be checked out. I call later saying i want to approve anything before being charged. He then informs me the diagnostic for finding the problem will cost between $30-100!! Dont let this place scam you too i am beyond upset that these people are so dishonest and sheisty. read more

They will send you out the door with a temporary fix that will leave you broke down on the side of the road. They will not stand behind there work and are very incompetent. read more

Took my car in to get my rear breaks done. After paying over $400 I get it back with a red brake light on, abs light, and my traction control is out. Expected me to pay for it and also couldnt give me an estimate. Communication was terrible on their part. Gave them one star because 0 was not an option. read more

They worked my vehicle in quickly. Prices were on the high end of what I've experienced at other shops. However, they clearly damaged my vehicle during the install and refused to even remotely acknowledge that as a possibility, let along make any attempt at making it right. Customer service in paramount in my mind, because of this experience they've certainly lost any of my future business. read more
