    Looking in.

Stopped in for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon and we enjoyed the quaint local food scene. Had the patty melt and chicken sandwich. They were served hot and were very tasty. Service was good and prompt even with a good crowd.

    Garlic knots and marinara sauce

This isn't the kind of place we frequent typically but my niece goes to school at WCU and had heard good things so we decided to try it out. We were BLOWN AWAY. This is hands down the best food we have had in North Carolina. Their menu is quite varied and has something for everyone, including your dog (who is allowed inside!) Vibes were immaculate, just come in, grab a menu, seat yourself and then place your order at the counter. Condiments/cutlery/to go containers are self serve. What We Ordered: Garlic Knots (table) Thai Coconut Curry with Grilled Chicken (me) Firecracker Beef Sloppy Joe (sister) Korean BBQ Pork Sandwich (Mother) Cheese Pizza (niece) What We Thought: Garlic Knots - Good not great. A bit dark/overcooked for our liking. Could use more garlic on the outside. Marinara was chunky but yummy. 6/10 Thai Coconut Curry - INCREDIBLE. 3/4 of us plan to order this next time. My niece said this will be her go to off campus meal next semester, overthrowing Taco Bell for the honor. The curry was rich and thick and had the perfect amount of sweetness. The spice level was mild but present. Chicken was perfectly cooked, with no weird or gristly bits and the zucchini and carrots added a nice textural element. 10/10. Would recommend and in fact did recommend on the way out of the restaurant to the girls at the table next to ours. Firecracker Beef Sloppy Joe - My sister originally ordered this but my mom took a single bite claimed it was her own and demolished it in minutes. She couldn't stop ranting and raving over it. That's perfect because my sister didn't love it, too many Bell peppers for her liking. 8/10 Korean BBQ Pork Sandwich - This was a real surprise. It's so dimensional and also well balanced. The sesame flavor is strong but the kimchi adds the acid you need for it. This would be amazing with a heaping helping of seaweed salad on top too. 9/10 Cheese Pizza - A dark horse! Way tastier than we expected it to be. Thin crust but lots of flavor. Texture was great. Will reorder! We also had the housemade chips with beer cheese and the reviews were mixed. We all enjoyed the chips, particularly the texture, but the beer cheese was too heavy on the beer flavor. If you love beer cheese you'll enjoy this, if you don't, skip it!

The General J's salad. Damn tasty

This place was doing a brisk business on a Wednesday night. And it's trivia night to boot. Bonus points for that! Co-located with Lazy Hiker Brewery, this walk-up window pumps out some great food. I had the General J's salad. It was all good. The chicken was tender and well glazed with a seasoned sauce. The pickled onion and carrot added crunch and tang. The rice is filling, and the kale gives you that feeling that you're eating healthy I'll try the pizzas if I come back. Having the Lazy Biker options in the same building is a bonus. I have to give this place a recommendation.

The food here is excellent! You simply grab a menu, place your order upfront, and pick out your condiments. There's a little band that plays at 8 PM, which adds to the atmosphere. They have outdoor seating with a fire pit, creating a cozy vibe. Additionally, there's an amazing local brewery that offers fantastic craft beers, perfect for relaxing after a long day of hiking. Overall, the food is delicious, and I would definitely recommend it! as far as service itself serve after you order they deliver it to you.

We found the restaurant by being inside the brewery. Our order was quickly taken and we were provided a number identifier for our table. We went outside and it seemed like just a few minutes later our food was delivered. We ordered the burrito, soft pretzels, and quesadillas. Everything was fresh and hot. Sitting outside in July was very pleasant. There are many tables both inside and out at the lazy hiker brewery. This was my first visit to Sylva and it was a great experience.

Great food, competitive price and friendly cashier/ food delivery. This is a great what looks like local business who serves a a quality meal at a fair price

Pizza and pretzels were really good. I had unsweetened tea and it really just tasted like water (I needed caffeine!!) And the tea was after my food and I never got a refill. We have been before and it's normal bar environment, and clean! It was packed and the beer line wrapped around and packed the place. Unfortunately people crowded our table.

Tea looks good -- Good start.

I finally visited this little restaurant on Main Street. We were pleasantly surprised, first of all, to even learn Mad Batter was there, and we eat lunch on Main Street often. But, looking on Yelp, there it was, so you know we HAD to go check it out. The menu online had some interesting dishes. Let's go! You enter and go down a hallway to the restaurant. Just as it opens, there's a stand to your right; you order your food here. Hubby had the pork bbq plate, and I had the curry with added chicken. His salad looked amazing and fresh, and the veggies in my curry were crispy-yum. I'm sure we will visit again - you should, too!

High on the Hog 14 inch
    Mike S.

We were wanting to get pizza and I had never had Mad Batters pizza so we decided to give them a try. We went with too of the favorites 14 inch pies that being the High on the Hog which is a meats pizza and then also got the Supreme which everyone knows what that is (but with no peppers) Our pizza would be ready within 15 to 20 minute so quickly we headed that way. Once arriving our pizzas were ready. Once home the pizzas did look good but the Supreme did end up still having the peppers on it. I will also say they also were not loaded with toppings but but didn't stop us from quickly getting into them. The crust was pretty thin which I liked and the flavor of the sauce was very good. This made for a very crushable pizza. I probably finished 4 slices in about 5 minutes. I was also a fan of the fact that the pepperoni they use are the big ones. Will for sure have to get the 16 inch pies next time though but we will for sure be coming back.

First, let's address the only downside: my burger was slightly overcooked. The server was very kind and attentive, but by the time she came back around to check on us, it felt a little late to send it back. I decided to remove the meat and enjoy the rest of the burger -- and surprisingly, it was still very good. My only hope for next time is that everything comes out cooked exactly as intended. Now for the positives -- because there are plenty. The wait time was excellent. We didn't have to wait for a table, and the food came out in a timely manner. That level of efficiency definitely adds to the overall experience. This restaurant is clearly operating at a high level. The location is great, the atmosphere is welcoming, and everything feels well-managed. You can tell there's pride behind what they're doing. We ordered The Goat Burger with Crispy Buttered Taters and started with the Fried Deviled Eggs. The fried deviled eggs were a standout. They had a salty base with a slight kick of heat, and the pickled onions brought in a sweet, tangy balance that elevated the dish. The salty-sweet combination worked beautifully together. A strong appetizer choice. As for The Goat Burger -- aside from being slightly overcooked -- the flavor was impressive. The patty was well seasoned, and the fried goat cheese paired with bacon created a rich, savory profile that complemented the crispy buttered taters perfectly. Everything worked cohesively on the plate. Even after removing the meat, the toppings and structure still delivered strong flavor. The food was absolutely worth the money. I left feeling full and satisfied without feeling overly heavy, which is always a plus. This is a place I will go back to again and again. I would confidently recommend it to others -- great location, good food, good people, and solid service. They also offer wine and beer for those who want to enjoy a drink with their meal. Overall, a very strong experience. I'm looking forward to coming back -- and next time, I'm hoping everything comes out cooked perfectly.

The layout of the restaurant is very homey with the Green velvet love seat by the door in the waiting area. It seems very casual with mostly family's and a few couples at the bar. When we arrived there was a short wait so we walked out to admire the Jackson County Courthouse on the hill across the street. After our brief walk our table was ready. We had my wife, son 2 daughters and the oldest one's boyfriend who goes to WCU. We started with the fried deviled egg and cheesy prosciutto croquettes for an appetizer. Big fan of the tomato jam and croquettes so much that I saved the remaining portion for my Gouda grits. They have a wide variety on the menu so everyone found a meal they would enjoy. My wife got the motherclucker chicken sammich with a salad, my youngest daughter got pasta Alfredo, my son got the Rueben, I ordered the fish tacos with Gouda grits and Karlea and Tristan got a basic burger and fries. Other than being messy, my fish tacos were tasty with the slaw and blueberry composite. My wife liked her chicken sammich even though it was at the edge of her threshold for spicy. Brody enjoyed his Rueben but the seasoned veggies were a bit bland. Forager seems like a Sylva staple that will stay on my shortlist. Cheers!

We ended up at the picnic table since we had our dogs with us. We order drinks I had a Coors. I also noticed when I went inside they had a full bar with a decent amount of bourbon. Was surprised to see Weller 12 there for such a small place. They had a couple sandwiches which I was interested in but went with the Winner! Winner! Though we understood because the train had arrived at the time we were there and there was a lot going on at the take out side and were where at the furthest table away. I will say when our food came out it was pretty good. My chicken sandwich was was lightly breaded and the Blueberry Compote really brought everything together. We even got take out from here later this week and the Chicken Casserole Wrap was also good.
