We stopped here after a long hike and loved the casual but trendy vibes. We were able to sit outside on the adorable patio. We started with garlic knots and bacon cheese fries. The garlic knots were original and yummy, and the fries were crispy and seasoned well. I ordered the deluxe grilled cheese and was surprised at how delicious it was. It came with chips and beer dip. The dip was a little too hot for me; however, my husband enjoyed dipping his sandwich into the spicy dip. We also got the pizza, burger, and tomato soup. The soup was amazing. As a vegan in a mountain town it's a strug to find marked vegan options. This place has them! Vegan pizza, vegan burgers, even vegan CINNAMON DONUTS! (Which were delicious.) my non-vegan wife enjoyed her pizza and the person working was very helpful in advising me on what could be veganized (most of the menu can be!) and what was good. I enjoyed my vegan burger. It's also a brewery so if you're looking for some to go beer, it's a good spot! Their dining room is open I believe, but it was empty when we went and we were getting food to go. They are definitely enforcing social distancing, mask wearing and sanitizing. read more

Also had wings and a pepperoni pizza, both were good. Entertainment on Thursday's is a jam session by local musicians. Atmosphere inside & out is very relaxed. Enjoyed the food more than the beer. This place is incredible. As cliché as this is, me and a friend are from "the big city", and went to a small town in North Carolina for a wedding. We saw this place, and were in the mood for pizza. We called in an order (and forgot to name ourselves "Candice"), and waited. It was very quick, and ready when we got there. Its location is slightly weird- it shares the place with a brewery. It looks very charming, and perfect for movie fans. Haven't tried the salad yet, but it looks incredible. I love this place, and if we come back to North Carolina, this place is a definite point on our map. read more

Pizza is fantastic! The water is cold and crisp. I like to call myself a water connoisseur, so when I enjoyed their water as much as I did....I knew I had to write a positive review. Me and my girlfriend like to frequent this restaurant when I'm in town to visit her. It's a "self service" type restaurant. You get your own utensils and clean your own table. Not a big deal. It's attached to a bar who I believe makes their own beverages. The ciders are to die for! My only complaint is one item. The garlic cheese fries. I'm not sure if it was an off night in the kitchen or what. These fries had to be the worst spin of a cheese fry to ever be created. I won't go into too much detail but my god. Imagine if your four year old got into the cheese and garlic while eating his left over fries and decided to be a chef. That's what I think happened....at least this night we had them. Like i said, everything is normally fantastic. Just this one thing wasn't. I like to think it was accidentally messed up during the preparing process and nobody noticed. There is definitely a bright mind in the kitchen creating their unique dishes. I would 10/10 recommend this place to any group looking to have a fun night drinking and eating good food! read more

I hate to write this review. We have enjoyed going to the mad batter many times together and with family and friends. The staff was always friendly and food was good. It started when we walked in the door. The woman at cash register sad if you don't know what you want you can sit until you do rudely. You have to order your food at register. She didn't sat HI can I help you. I was ready to order I Told her this and my husband said he was too. I ordered Tomato soup and Salad. The salad is grilled chicken Caesar kale. I always ask can I get the chicken blackened? The woman says we don't make blackened. I said I always get it that way can you ask the cook. She said I don't have to ask the cook I'm the owner very unfriendly and unprofessional. Then she brought the food to table and said we made it blackened for you. which I thought was great. Then she comes back to table 5 minutes later and says we won't give you that again if you come back here very rude and again unprofessional. The rest of the staff and food is good. I will not be going back to eat here and support such a rude and unprofessional persons business. Take a lesson from your staff owner on how to speak to customers. read more

I had the tempeh Bahn Mi sandwich (a special) the first night and a patty melt with a beyond burger the second. Both were exceptionally done. This unique little place is on Main Street in Sylva. The menu has lots of options. My wife and I both got the slice of pizza and salad special. I got pepperoni and she had the margarita. The crust was just the way I like it, not exactly thin, but not thick by anyone's standards. The sauce was good and not heavy. There was a generous amount of topping. The salad was fresh and the house dressing was excellent. The service was good and prices were very fair. While no movie was playing while were there, the movie selections are listed on the website and the front of the menu. read more

Omg! This place was so amazing. We ate there Saturday while on vacation. I order the chicken sandwich that was supposed to have chicken dipped in Buffalo sauce. I asked for no sauce and they were more than happy to make it that way. It was fantastic! Looked super crispy but it was just right. Loved the breading. Their ranch is to die for!!! Two stars for the friendly staff and one good beer selection, but otherwise our visit was underwhelming. In downtown Sylva on a Friday night looking for a place to relax and have a beer after a long drive up from home. At 9:45p we spot Mad Batter and see that they were showing a film starting at 8:45p and their hours listed on Yelp showed they are open until 11p on Fridays. When we walked in, though, it seemed closed. The lights in the dining room were off and someone was sweeping up. They were counting their cash drawers on the bar. But we asked if there was time to get a beer and they said sure. Okay. They have a good selection of local beers on tap and craft brews by the bottle. I had a local Sylva beer, Innovation brewery, and the bartender recommended a bottle of Harvest Time Pumpkin Ale. I wish I would have gotten a bottle of beer because the Innovation from the tap was not cold. Maybe cold enough in a British Pub, but not enough stateside. The staff (again the redeeming quality of the place) offered us some dessert (since the kitchen was closed) and we opted for the carrot cake with coconut cream frosting. Big mistake. On top if its being gluten free, it seemed like it had been in the fridge a couple of days. Fork goes into cake and cake crumbles. In fairness I will try to come back to sample the pizza and sandwiches which seem to be much better based on reviews here. read more

Been to The Mad Batter three times now and excited for my next trip. Came in last year to carbo load before the Valley of the Lilies at Western. Pizza and beer are always a solid choice and the kale salad looked pretty good, too, so I figured why not? Walked in on a Friday when they were showing a free movie which was fun. Tried a few of the Mediterranean slices which were awesome but the star of the show was the tahini kale salad (kale, roasted veggies, tomatoes, cukes, feta, candied nuts, and lemon tahini dressing) topped with some deicious tofu variant. Ordered the same last weekend before this year's race. My only regert was not specifying that I wanted the entree sized salad. Don't know what's in it, don't care, do want more of it in me. Stopped by the next day for Brew Hop. No food this time but still had a blast. Looking forward to visiting again soon! read more

What a cute little jewel tucked in Sylva. I strolled in by myself for lunch and was quickly seated. I asked to be moved because the music was too distracting and poof! Music was toned to my liking. I ordered a pizza with trepidation. I'm Italian and my benchmark is high. It was good. I'd ask for less cheese next time but that is me. The rest of the world would be pleased with all that gooey goodness. I had a glass of wine and boy was it a generous pour. My waitress, Payton, was attentive, sweet and a pleasure. Will I go back? Very disappointed. When Avocado is the first ingredient listed in the name of a sandwich you'd expect it to be at least noticeable on the sandwich. Just so you know I've had the avocado BLT many times but this time the avocado was so little it seemed like a small bit of paste between the lettuce and bacon. I didn't even taste it in the sandwich!! The service was fast but you have to go up front to place your order and bus your own table. It's mostly a brewery now. read more

I had an excellent meal here yesterday when I came for a late lunch. Usually, eating in the 'off hours' (3:00 for us) is risky as the food and service sometimes lack at that time. However, we were given fantastic, friendly service and I had a truly excellent meal. The Gyro special with marinated tri-tip was literally good to the last bite. The meat was tasty, served on fresh naan with mixed greens, tomatoes, cukes and feta and a nice drizzle of Greek yogurt sauce. It came with crispy fries and a unique garlic dipping sauce. It's one of the best meals I've had in a while and probably the best I've had on this trip. I Recommend Mad Batter happily as a great place to eat in Sylva! They also have lots of vegetarian, vegan and GF options. (I ended up going back a day later and it was excellent on round two as well!) read more

He also politely told me that their internet was down so they could not process credit cards at the time. I appreciated the heads up. I walked in to pick up my order and the restaurant was too busy for the two employees that I saw to handle. On top of that there was a beer delivery happening at the end of the lunch rush. (Bad form Budweiser). Daniel and his coworker were doing their very best. They apologized profusely several times. My order was correct and the food was excellent as always. Best pizza in WNC, hands down, no question. Disagree? Fight me. I lived in NYC for 8 years and this is the closest thing I've had to New York pizza outside of that great city. It's perfect pizza, great crust, sauce, and they use primo toppings. They have lots of other great food, with tons of vegetarian options. The free movies are obviously awesome and the beer selection is top notch with lots of local stuff. The staff is also so great. Everyone is always positive and glad to see you. This past trip I had great interactions with Paige, and the manager, Jay. People that seem to love their jobs and love to have you there. I can't recommend this very different, very cool place in a desert of humdrum any more highly. This place is the bee's knees, if the bee's legs belonged to Ariana Grande. read more

We were visiting from Charlotte and decided to stop by and eat before returning home. Everything at this place is self serve. You even have to bus your own table. None of the employees know what's going on in this place. I ordered a gluten free pizza and watched it get ran to the wrong table. I had to physically go and get it from someone else's table after they looked confused and tried to get the waitress to tell her it wasn't theirs, but she ran backinto the kitchen. We all ate and since the food was coming out super slow and one at a time we realized someone in our party never got their veggie burger. We checked the receipt and realized even though we ordered it and the guy read it back to us he didn't ring it in. We waited another 30 minutes for that burger. All we got was a sorry and a free old pastry. Never coming here again. read more

Food was not as good as before even though they say the kitchen is the same. You have to get up and order your food, get your napkins and utensils. I've never had anything at the Mad Batter that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. We always have the same waiter, who is an absolute sweetheart and fantastic at doing what he does. It's clear that, whether in the front of the house or in the kitchen, these people have a passion for what they do. With lunch, You have a choice of house made tortilla chips (at least I think the're house made. They're really good.) with either house made salsa or house made hummus. Both options are good, but the hummus is downright PHENOMENAL. To date, I've had: Eggs Benedict (The best I've EVER had. I don't even bother ordering EB at other places anymore because nothing can stand up to Mad Batter's.
