Quality / amount / presentation: failing grade. We bought $45 worth of baked goods: samples of several things and 1/2 dozen cupcakes. (Everything you see, still untouched, in the pic.) It looked like $8-10 worth in volume from a bakery. This was the worst and driest cakes or pastries we've ever had!! Instead of nicely cut, the cake pieces looked liked a toddler had spooned up the remnants in a container and then sprayed them all with white frosting - which was on top of everything. We were obviously sold pieces that had been lying around for quite a while, as some were so dry they had crusted up and were inedible. The cupcakes were the only cake-moist pieces, but the taste was bland and sugary. Somehow the supposedly different flavors also tasted almost the same. read more

If you are ready to waste your time and get bait and switched, come here for your wedding cake. I reached out to them on The Knot sending a picture of a vintage rectangular cake. I told her our location was Zachary - 2 hours away. She originally quoted for 101 and then once I mentioned it would be chantilly she quoted 120. Mind you, I sent a specific picture of what I wanted. We were invited to come out to a cake tasting (costing $25). For the price, we justified this totaling 4 hour trip for the sake of affordability. We are on a tight budget. We get there and everyone was kind. The cake was pretty good. And then we get to pricing. Suddenly the same cake I requested initially mentioning the berries on top and vintage aesthetic now costs 262.36 and the delivery is 175. Mentioned the original price and she said that was a price for a basic rectangular cake that is not chantilly. Why would she quote me for that when I sent her the picture she acknowledged receiving in the appointment? I noticed the reviews on here when I put in the address to give it a shot. The cake was fine. They are nice to your face. But they are a shotty business model. If you are a couple already stressing about wedding planning and budgets - this is a 40 person cake for $500. Not the low price they will attract you to them with "affordability" slapped in the ad. Extremely disappointing and extreme waste of time and gas. Half a tank on nothing. ** I would update my review if you were being honest. In the initial quote before we came I absolutely did show you the cake itself that I wanted in the picture AND I wanted the berries covering the top which was in the initial picture. I mentioned I wanted to raspberries from the picture to be replaced with the Chantilly betties. This was all before the appointment. You even acknowledged I sent you an initial picture in the appointment, so I showed you a similar one again since you said you didnt remember. The cake I showed you initially before we came was actually even more intricate. I expected a travel fee which is why I asked before you mentioned it if it was included in the 262. I expectef a higher fee for the travel. Not a $200 deviation in price from the cake alone. read more

I picked up several cupcakes, petit fours, and other sweets. The shop itself is EXTREMELY cute -- the theme is Alice in Wonderland and the decor, chairs, etc all reflect it. It would be the perfect place to go for an auntie date. I like that they also sell local items too, like beef tallow lotion and pepper jelly. read more

I am planning my wedding and my experience taste testing Mad Batter's cakes was like a dream!!! From the variety of cakes, fillings and frostings -- all homemade. The red velvet cake as a true-to-form Southern recipe and the lemon curd...I could have eaten that with a spoon. I am looking forward to my wedding day, now more than ever, because my cake will be absolutely PERFECT! read more

If I can give zero stars I would. They give moldy cakes out and the inside of the building is COVERED in mold!!! They treat their employees like dogs and underpays them, short their pay however she wants because she pays them under the table!!! forces them to work in disgusting work conditions. The mold was recently brought up to the health department and she simply PAINTED OVER THE BLACK MOLD AGAIN. The owner and her daughter are the rudest people I've ever met! They are just as bad as Walmart they use frozen cakes from months and months ago. This place needs to be shut down please nobody EVER go here! I got these pics from a Facebook post from a former employee... pics dont lie!! Never ever go here! read more

I never post bad reviews, but I can't not share my experience with this business. We booked a cake tasting through the company email - Annie Gros was our point of contact. We took off of work and drove an hour and a half from Gonzales for our appointment time. Upon arriving, they said that Annie was not there that day and they were not set up for us, could we come another day. Incredibly unprofessional. This is not the kind of place I would even consider booking my wedding cake with. One word to describe this business - ghetto. Avoid at all costs. Doesn't even smell like a bakery. read more

This bakery sells the most horrible cake product I've ever tasted. Walmart cakes taste better and I don't like Walmart cakes. However, given a choice, I'd choose Walmart, though not a connoisseur's first choice. The cakes have not flavor or taste just bland. The frosting taste like unflavored crisco. There is also no appeal to the eye. Some of their cake unintentionally sloppily positioned and are not stacked correctly. read more

I needed a birthday cake and someone mentioned this place. I had never even been inside of the place but I called and placed an order anyway. I ordered a chocolate cake with cream cheese icing and chocolate covered strawberries in the top. The cake it self was reasonably priced I picked up the cake and asked when had it been baked and was told Wednesday...... unmmmm......that was a red flag for me. She told me they bake them early to give them time to set and to cool. I picked the cake up at 2 pm on Saturday. I asked if the cake had to be refrigerated and she asked what time was the party I said 730 she said no it should be good. She placed one very small piece of tape on the top and one very small piece on each side. The box was not closed properly at all. Needless to say the cake was good. It did taste a little stale to me but the flavor was good and icing was perfect not too sweet I definitely would consider purchasing something else from Mad Batter I just would ask for it to be made closer to the time I need it read more

Update Alert: Ok, so I returned to try the king cake, and yes it was delicious. I would probably place this cake on my top ten list for king cakes. It was fresh, soft, and fluffy. It was sweet, and would go well with coffee, or milk. I also tried the Russian cake, and vanilla bean cupcake. The cupcake was the best tasting cupcake I've ever eaten. It was stuffed with some kind of cream, that was pretty lovely. And the icing...oh the icing was soooooo good. The Russian cake. Hmmmm. So I've never eaten Russian cake, so I'm not sure how it's supposed to taste. But I can say that it tasted like toothpaste, all of it, especially the icing. Not my thing, but to each his own. read more

Let's just start with me reading several negative reviews on this quaint little place. I've read how much expectations people had from them and they are let done. However, I didn't get their same results. In fact, I've got more what I've expected. Furthermore, Mad Batter Bakery was not my original choice for bakery for my Wife's birthday cake but they stepped up and gave me a wonderful cake. I appreciate their hard work and short notice (24hours) to complete the cake. The front associate was friendly and eager to assist me with my cake ideas. What's even more surprising was I've got a friendly message from the owner to see how myself and my Wife enjoyed their creation, too. I will do business with Mad Batter Bakery in the future. Thank you for helping out with a beautiful / tasty cake and in a short time frame, also. Keep up the great work and customer service. read more

i ordered a cake like every year. this year my daughter wanted the bunny logo from a k pop band. The bunny was literally an outline just filled in with white icing and a blue bow on top. The cake decorator could not do the outline of a bunny so they slapped a big ugly piece of fondant on it the bunnies eyes or cross the fondant is not even all the way on the cake, there's an air bubble in between the fondant in the cake it was supposed to be heart shaped and you can't even tell the shape of the cake and let's just say this small cake was very costly. I will never order another cake from Mad batter again. read more

My husband purchased a sweet potato cake there for his birthday. He paid $70 for a 9 inch round cake. It was sad! First, it looked like a 4th grader decorated It, secondly, it was dry and had no taste! At the birthday dinner, Noone liked the cake and did not eat it. Sad! read more

I ordered a birthday cake. The girl wrote the wrong date I don't know how she could 20th when I said 29th those numbers sound nothing a like and I specifically said the sunday after thanksgivings. First I was told I would have to pick the cake up Saturday then I was told friday. It was too late to order from someone else so I was like ok. They called me on the 20th saying my order was ready and I told I wanted my cake for the 29th but my pick up date is friday because I was told after I placed my order the place will be closed saturday too. When I picked up my cake on the 28th it looked rush and not worth the cash money I paid for it. When I tasted the cake it didn't taste like a day old it tasted like a cake that was almost a week old. The writing on the cake look like my 5 year old nephew had wrote on it. I will post what I should them and what I got. read more

Wow, I just can't even begin to describe how awful this bakery is. Since their king cakes won a bunch of polls, I decided to check them about, and buy a few different flavors of their filled offerings. First off, they aren't filled during the pre-boxing process, so they take a regular king cake that is sitting on the shelf, and take it to the back to fill it. They turn it upside down to hand fill it, so it takes quite a while - and your king cake comes back as a smooshed up mess. The king cakes themselves were all dry. How this place managed to get better king cake reviews than bigger, and better king cakes (Randazzo's, and Haydel's) is beyond me. Can you say ballot stuffing. read more

I'll have to say I would never come here again. I went in with high hopes of getting what I paid for. Their interior is beautiful and they have such beautiful cakes on display. I did not hesitate to place an order in advance for my son's birthday. The cake I received was nothing close to professional. The cake was lopped sided and the shapes drawn on the cake was horrible. It looked like a kid decorated the cake. I was very very disappointed and upset. Being that I picked it up the day of the party and the cake was a fully vegan cake for my son that is highly allergic to eggs, milk, and peanuts, there was no time to get a replacement. I eventually calmed down and said, I'll let it go as long as it tastes good. My gosh was that a disappointment as well! It's bad when my guest were all disappointed in the decoration of the cake and then the taste as well. Everyone took one bite and that was it. Everyone says the cake tasted old and looked old. I had cake plates around the house, uneaten. I made vegan cupcakes myself for the first time for this party and everyone said it was actually very awesome and they couldn't even tell it was fully vegan! I felt happy that they all preferred my cupcakes over the cake, but imagine my disappointment in the cake I paid so much for. More than half of the cake is still in my fridge that will end up in the trash today. I think next time I'll definitely put out the time and effort to bake the cake myself. read more

2nd time buying a $200+ birthday cake and both are disappointing. Even the cupcakes are terrible. The cakes did not look like the picture we gave them. (2 years ago)The first $250 cake was a mini mouse theme cake with fondant and the fondant was not even all around and full of finger prints on it all over the cake. We cut into it and hardly had butter cream in it. It was mostly fondant and (dry) breading. (This weekend) second order we made, we wanted to give them a second chance. The cupcakes we ordered were mickey mouse themed cupcakes with swirled frosting, and glitter red sprinkles, they didn't give us that at all. It was a flat frosting and they just put three circles impersonating a mickey mouse, my sister had to ask them to add the edible glitters because it was so plain and DRY! Don't get me started on the mickey mouse cake.... it was nothing NOTHING! Like the picture we showed them. Since the last order was a fondant cake, we asked for a butter cream for the decorations. The butter cream was not butter cream, it tasted like sweet waxy oily mess. And this place ain't cheap, I can buy a better tasting cake at whole foods then this and cheaper. Not recommending this place to anyone. If I could give zero stars I would! read more

I wish I could rate them a negative star because this place is a ripoff and the staff and owner Ann, gets mad when you don't agree with their horrible outcome of your order. They tax you everytime you pay on an order if you have a large order and making payments on it. I've never heard of such a thing. If the total is $800 and you make payments on the order why are they charging tax each time you pay. Is that even legal? I don't see this overcharging and stale pastry place being opened too much longer and the attitudes in the place will shine through the phony smiles once you complain about spending your money on pastries that aren't up to par. I give a big thumbs down to this bakery. read more

Mad Batter is always delicious and fresh. We have never been disappointed, everything is fresh and yummy.

We attended a cake tasting on 8-19-2017. I must say that our experience was fabulous. The store decor is Alice and Wonderland themed which was unique. The bakery itself was very neat, clean and very well maintained. We were seated and given a variety of delicious cakes, icings, and fillings to sample. This experience was different from previous tastings, she allowed you to actually formulate a custom cake vs giving you what "she " thought you might like. The owner was attentive, thorough and knowledgeable. Her design expertise is unsurpassed based on previous examples of her work. If you are looking for a cake vendor who can make your wishes come true, please visit this bakery. The pricing is very reasonable as well. I would highly recommend The Mad Batter Bakery. read more

I had a cake from here on April 30, 2015. This is not the first time I have been here. Its about the fourth. I haven't previously yelped about this establishment. Yea, it's super cute. However, the chairs must have been picked for looks not comfort. The first time I went here it was really good the vanilla bean cupcake was good. Expensive though. Not that that is a problem if it's worthy. The first time it was. The second it just didn't seem fresh. The third good the cake which I did not preorder was just not fresh. This place is hit or miss. I really would like to say something great about this quaint little cute bakery that's in the perfect location on Judge Perez. We ordered a cake from them for my nieces 6th birthday. Her theme was Uni Kitty, which is this cute little cat. When I picked up the cake I noticed that it was extremely plain and the decorations were minimal. I felt like I could have purchased something similar if not better from Walmart or Rouses. The main reason we decided to go with Mad Batter was because of it's called Mad Batter and we assumed that they would be very creative. When we ordered be cake we thought that the photo would at least cover the entire cake, but instead it only covered about a quarter of the cake leaving the remainder bare... I don't understand why a bakery named Mad Batter wouldn't be more creative than that especially for $80!!! I'm an extremely disappointed. The only reason I'm giving them two stars is because the cake was very moist... it wasn't the best tasting but it was fresh. With that, I'll just say that I wouldn't recommend them and I don't plan on ever using them again. read more

I have used this bakery twice over the last 3yrs and was excited to use them once again for my godchild 1st birthday, unfortunately this will be the last time I use Mad Batter, the cake was late arriving to the party it was suppose to arrive at 115p and didn't get to the zoo until 150p, it was uneven and cracking, it was stale, the imperfections were very visible and lastly it was not what I ordered. When I phoned to discuss the issue I was hung up on not once but twice. The person identified themselves as the manager (Jordan) and basically told me I was undercharged to begin with, correct me if I'm wrong but $191 for a 14" cake seems a bit much. If I had to rate this shop for my third go round I would request they be closed down. read more
