Scooters Family BBQ - Pulled pork sandwich with cole slaw and green beans

If you're looking for an awesome hole in the wall BBQ restaurant, this is it. We noticed this place…read moredidn't have many reviews so we decided to give it a try. So happy we did because the food is AMAZING! We accidently drove past it at first. The restaurant kind of blends in with the building. We parked in the back and walked up front. Doing so, we could see where the cook is and get a pre-smell of the food. The dining room is fairly large with several large tables. Although the lady in the front seemed a little tired, she was friendly and helpful with our order. Unfortunately they were already out of ribs and brisket but still had everything else. We decided to try a few things and everything I would get again with the exception of the cole slaw. It wasn't bad, just a little dry for my taste. We will definitely be back anytime we are in the area.

Scooters is a small establishment on the main drag in Austin. It's clean and comfortable. The table and chairs set up would remind you of a school lunchroom. The menu is fairly limited and definitely BBQ centered. I had the 1/2 rack ribs that comes with chips ($10.99). My wife had the Pork Platter with 2 sides. We also tried the Loaded Tots and fried Mushrooms appetizers. The Loaded Tots came topped with pulled pork, bbq sauce, and cheese. They were very good, however the Tots were not hot enough for me. They seemed to be about room temperature. On the opposite end of things, the Mushrooms came out so hot we had to wait a while to eat them. That's a positive as far as I'm concerned. My ribs (6 of them) were fall off the bone tender. Moist and tasty. I subbed what they called baked beans for my chips. The beans tasted like they were poured straight out of a can and microwaved. Nothing special. My wife's pork sandwich was delicious. The pork was tender and moist, not dried out like some places. Her sides were potato salad and macaroni and cheese. I tried her potato salad and it was just OK. I did not get to try her mac and cheese, but she said it was delicious. No fountain drinks nor beer. Soft drinks are canned and bottle water. They did have tea, but only sweet tea. We opted for two bottled waters. I want to mention, I used the restroom and it was SPOTLESS. Maybe the cleanest restroom I've seen in a restaurant! As you can tell I was impressed. Prices are very reasonable. Two appetizers, two meals, which included 1/2 rack, and two bottled waters came to $32 and some change.

We have ordered cookies from her for a housewarming gift, and didn't have a clue as to what to get. Well it was Emily to the rescue! She had the idea to do cookies in the shape of keys, and also a front door with a wreath on it!! Since I'm not very creative, she was able to just put it ALL together (even the colors!) for me just right off the bat!! They couldn't have been more adorable, and everyone loved their sugar cookies; I felt like the hero all night, and I didn't even do anything but buy them, haha! We'd also gotten a simple cake from Emily a couple years ago for my friend's first birthday party. It was only about 10 people, so my friend didn't want anything over-the-top; she just wanted a really small cake that would be cute for pics. My friend's dad had passed away right before this, and he was a fireman, so Emily created the perfect little cake, designed perfectly for her little guy. On top of that, it was chocolate and delicious!! We've also gotten her holiday cookies-- she sells out SUPER quickly, so make sure you place an order in time! We missed out one year because we waited until the last minute. They're the cutest things I've ever seen!! We will ALWAYS be patronizing Emily, and we feel lucky to have our "own dessert chef" from now on! (Haha, sounds silly, but Emily has made us feel like family! ) I'm going to come back to add pics / edit if I can.. I don't have them toward the front of my phone and it could take hours to find them, but I will eventually!! Thank you Emily Wheeler Custom Cakes- you've made our lives so much sweeter!!

She did my best friend's wedding as well, both themes very different, but both turned out amazing! She was such a pleasure to work with. We kept in touch throughout my planning process and she easily made adjustments, and worked with our budget! My sweet table consisted of customized sugar cookies, cake pops, and lemon bars, as well as other assorted candies to tie in with my pastel color theme (light blue, pale pink, and peach). She supplied everything! Cake stands, candy jars, scoopers etc! It turned out wonderful! My guests still rave about the cake pops! I highly recommend her!

If you want to endear someone to you, one way to do that is to give them delicious baked goods! (Or, at least, this method works for me.) The goodies I received from Offbeet were delicious. I got a little sampler of mini cupcakes, a lemon curd and blueberry pastry, and a spice muffin. My favorite was the lemon and blueberry pastry, because layered pastry and fruit is a winning combination. I wish I could have visited Offbeet Bakery in person. I did see the outside of the bakery, which is located close to the Brown County library. Apparently, Offbeet also sells coffee and espresso, and they also do custom cakes, too. They are active on social media, so go seek them out there if you want to know the new things they are baking up.

Of course how could I say no to that. The shop is in a cute repurposed house I believe and has stairs to walk up into the eating area. Outside I noticed there was seating in front of the building as well. Inside I was greeted immediately by smiling faces. The display case had a variety of different types of treats like: hummingbird cake slices, cookies, danishes, and cinnamon rolls. I opted for the cinnamon roll because it looked to be a brown sugar cream cheese icing. The cinnamon roll did not disappoint! I fell like I ate it almost too fast. I had an iced mocha latte to go with it and it was not too sweet so it helped balance out the sweetness of the roll. The seating inside is so so cute and aesthetic. There are about 4 tables with chairs around them sitting up against a wall full of windows and just displays some of the beauty of Nashville. The inside of the shop's accents are green and I just loved how peaceful I felt when I was enjoying my morning treat. I definitely will be back and will be taking some treats home with me the next time.
