The best bakeries know how to not only accentuate taste but also smell, and Mad Batter absolutely delivers on that part. I dropped by and got their gingerbread cookies and lemon crisp cookies. While I would have wanted them to be just a tad softer and chewier, I appreciated the strong flavours and how they weren't overly sweet. Also notably, I loved how strong the smell of molasses and lemon came through in each cookie and with each bite. This isn't always the case with many cookies, so thought that really added to the whole experience. Absolutely love this bakery! We purchased the gingerbread house kit last year and it was a hit so we were sure to return this holiday season for more treats. Have you ever seen someone who works in security at the Toronto Pearson Airport smile? No? Until a beautiful gingerbread cookie was produced from my carry-on (pre-COVID), neither had I. The security guy saw something on the screen that was large and oval shaped. He made me dig it out for inspection. When he saw the lovely decorated gingerbread cookie shaped like an Easter egg, he smiled and waved me on. Thankfully, it wasn't confiscated! I was afraid the gingerbread cookie would be hard. Aren't they always? But this one is gloriously soft. Usually this kind of cookie is too sweet since the front is completely decorated with icing. But it's just the right sweetness. They are delicious and make great gifts. The cookies are sold in assorted stores in the GTA. So you don't have to deal with shipping costs. This bakery is found in downtown Toronto. Lucky for me they offered some boxes for free at work. I had the opportunity to try two different types of cookies. I should mention they make their cookies in different shapes with decorative icing so it's quite cute to look at. Soft gingerbread cookies - true to its name, these have a delightful soft chew which is surprising as often ginger bread cookies are dry and hard at times. There's a good balance of ginger and other spices such that none are overpowering. Great cookie! 5/5. Old fashioned sugar cookie - don't let the name or look deceive you, these are just as good as the gingerbread cookies. While these are a "plainer" sugar and buttery flavor, the texture is what makes it stand out. It's somehow both got a nice crispy crunch on the outside yet has a fairly soft chew on the inside. Having a weak moment, I bought a box of Mad Batter's Old Fashioned Sugar cookies while shopping at Max's Bakery over the weekend. By chance purchased a Santa cookie from your pop-up at the Toronto Christmas Market and they were astounding. I'd happily give these as gifts. They were soft with the perfect flavour, the icing wasn't overbearing and ultimately was a kickass sugar cookie. Keep killing it! read more

This location on Jefferson does not have set hours but its always worth a try to stop by if you are in the area. They have individually-wrapped gingerbread cookies for the season, chocolate kiss gingerbread cookies, and other delicious cookies. At the end of January 2011, on the day before my daughter's opening night art show, I was attempting to organize some light refreshments to offer her guests. I had phoned a number of bakeries in the area in hopes of placing a last minute order, but quickly realized that no one could (understandably) accommodate me. I started to grow increasingly anxious as all the elements were in place for the party -- except the sweet treats. By then, I was quickly runnng out of time and patience. Then I remembered Mad Batter Bakers from when I'd worked in Liberty Village. I called the store, hoping against hope, there would be something left in their inventory on a Friday afternoon. The woman I spoke to immediately set my mind at ease. She still had a wide variety of cookies to choose from and, in fact, offered to keep the store open until I arrived after work. Half an hour later, I entered the tiny little shoppe where I was greeted by the wonderful aroma of fresh cookies. There were so many fabulous varieties that I had difficulty choosing. In the end, I selected 10 small containers each containing 8 or 10 cookies in a wide assortment: themed, decorated gingerbread, dark chocolate and light chocolate (if memory serves). On opening night at the gallery, the cookies were the stars of the food spread! Everyone commented on how chewy and fresh the soft cookies tasted. When asked if I'd baked the cookies myself, I had to confess that all the credit was owed to Mad Battery Bakers. We actually had to squirrel a few containers away for in-gallery visitors the next day. Thanks again to Mad Batter Bakers for rescuing me that day! I received a Christmas sugar cookie as a gift. This is not your typical hard grocery store sugar cookie. It's actually soft like a real home-made cookie.
