I went to this place several times with co workers after a long night. The last time I went, I forgot to pay my tab before I left. I left my credit card to start the tab. I went back the next afternoon to pickup my card and pay my tab. Everything was fine until I got home and discovered that there was a staple hole on the magnetic strip of my credit card. I called Mac's Tavern. They told me they staple the check to a card if tab is unpaid and the card gets declined for payment. Nevertheless, they made sure not to tell me about this when I went to pay the tab and pickup my card. No one apologized about the card either. I didn't make a big deal about it. I just never went back to this business. Real scum! read more

Went with a small crew on a Thursday night. Swimmers and parents. Lot going on here at this sports bar. Bartender was a nice and very funny guy. Made sure we had great service. Good value for the $ here. The place is pretty big with a game side where they had a painting session going on the night we were there. I had sliders and they were good. Went to a painting class here and was excited to get some good bar food. Sadly, the food was not up to par. I ordered buffalo chicken strips and they were obviously store bought and very processed. The buffalo sauce was good and hot though. I also had jalapeno poppers which were pretty good. The bartenders were very nice and brought our food out to us. Good pub food, good beer selection, and a good space. They've got a good sized patio and there's usually plenty of room inside. There's not much to say about your average pub. The food has always been tasty, quickly prepared, and accurate. Beer list is long and good! Average decor on the inside, but you don't go to a strip mall pub for the atmosphere. You go for some decent specials and decentralized service, both of which you will find here. The fried pickles are a must try!!!! Their burgers are always pretty good. Word of warning: Open mic night is really loud through the entire establishment. So if you're looking for a place to grab a drink and chill with friends, skip this on open mic night because you can't hear yourself think anywhere in the pub. Stopped here passing through town. Not very busy, slow service. Started with kielbasa bites which looked like a half of kielbasa cut up--way over priced for what you got. Tater tots tasted like they were fried in six month old grease. Soup came out luke warm. Very dark on the inside. The patio was large and I can see how that might be their draw, however there was no bar outside so had to wait for waitress or go inside to get drink. read more

Love this place...went on a early Sunday afternoon. The establishment looked closed, but they were open. The bartender was acting as waitress and she was able to hold everything down on her own. This is a neighborhood sports bar very near our house, so we like to go here a lot. We go early with our kids (9 and 7) so we don't come for music, because I presume that most customers are not into kids at 9 or so. We first came here because the sports bar we usually go to was closed--on New Year's Day! Football! Lame. So came here, ordered some wings and nachos. The food is pretty much above average bar food, but I love bar food, so I rate it highly. The wings are really quite good--my wife has a low tolerance for bad bar food, and she loves the wings. They have a kids menu, but a side of mac and cheese does them fine. And they have a taco salad that's actually quite good, so I go there a lot. It's a great lunch place--they have WiFi so you can bring work if you need to. But this five-star rating comes from really good wings, and a really nice, friendly wait staff, Their waitresses are super nice to the kids, and the bartenders can't do enough to make you feel welcome. It's a friendly, chill place to play darts, trivia, shoot some pool, and get good burgers and bar food. read more

Mac's Tavern is far from fancy. It's a wonderful little out-of-the-way place. The atmosphere is what you make it--sporty, Irish, whatever. The place is decent enough to take children but relaxed enough to have a good time with adult friends. Well, Where to begin......... Macs has been a staple in Cary for a while now, and I always thought they had great bar food, and probably one of the best burgers in town. It has been quite a while since I have been there, and I can now tell you that the burger is now a dry, frozen patty, and a mere shadow of its former glory! Definitely not what it used to be! The beer was good and cold, and the atmosphere is decent, as there is plenty of room. The dart area is nice, and away from general thru traffic, but could still use a little brighter lights. Plenty of room, and a decent outside porch, which has live music at times. Bartenders are attentive, but not overbearing and pushy, and do a great job. Now, my biggest complaint. My wife is a waitress, and if you have chosen this profession as your job, you need to be good at it. A bar/resturaunt is a CUSTOMER SERVICE industry, and if you cant get that in your head, get OUT, as it is not what you need to be doing! If I had been here with my wife and family, I would have walked out the door. HORRIBLY RUDE, AND A CRAPPY ATTITUDE are the only way to explain it. I mean, c'mon, don't act like I'm putting you out by asking for a beer, it's your damn job! After the extremely rude looks,comments, and service that some of my buddies got at the same time, I will only be back if I have too, and that sucks as I was interested in possibly seeing some music at the venue. In conclusion, it is what it is. As others have said, its basically a local dive bar. I would have to rate the Bartending staff at 3-4 stars, the burger, which WAS my favorite, at 2 stars (meh, Ive experienced much better) and the particular wait staff we had, 1 star, if that, since they dont give a lower rating! Haven't been in a while. When my business was in Cary we would go often. Great local place with friendly staff, cold beer and consistent food. One of the owners is typically on site and will do anything within reason to make a customer happy. By far the best sports bar in this area. This is pretty much as good as typical "bar food" gets, and with really wonderful service--all of the servers know us by name, and vice versa. Not stuffy, not "hip", but exactly what you want at a real sports bar--lots of tvs, good beers, darts, pool, music, and a big outdoor patio that I'm sure is especially important now for you smokers. I honestly can't stand Harrison's (awful service), Woody's (pretty poor menu), Sunset Grille (more like a restaurant with a bar in it) or Upper Deck (really too loud and kinda like a biker bar) after being here. read more

Awful experience. Was almost assaulted by another customer and management didn't do anything about it. I went to Macs tavern to enjoy a night of music and drinks with my boyfriend. We had a table, ordered drinks and food and all was well until some guy who must have been drunk came up to our table to harass us and threaten to assault us. We called the manager who came over and it appeared she was going to handle the situation. She then left and we waited for her to come back, in the meantime the guy and his buddies continued to harass us. We waited for some time but the manager never came back. We went to look for the manager and found her serving drinks are the bar rather than taking care of the situation. We handed her a tip for our waitress and told we were leaving and said, I guess you'll take care of our tab considering that we were harassed out of the place. All of a sudden she jumped out from behind the bar and said she was going to call the cops on us for not paying the bill. I told her, oh now you can call the cops on us but you never bothered to handle the situation with the guy that is threatening and harassing your customers. Long story short, I paid the bill because it was never an issue of paying the bill, it was an issue of our safety that this manager did not properly handle. I will never visit this establishment again. My advice to theirs upper management is to replace whomever the lady manager that was working there today was. She is terrible at her job, was more concerned with serving drinks at the bar than she was for looking out for her customers safety. I did not feel safe in any way in this bar. read more

We had a large birthday party at this location. In addition there was a 10-yr high school reunion. In all there was well in excess of 150 people for just those events. The staff really hustled and everyone expressed what a great evening it was. Working with Phil to make arrangements was easy and he was extremely accommodating to our requests. One of my favorite, if not my favorite bar in the Triangle. The food is always prepared as asked, and the wings are great. I really enjoy the football menu that has numerous things to pick from. Not many place around the triangle have that. The best part about this place is the staff. Everyone is awesome and friendly. When I came to the Raleigh area to decide if I wanted to move here, Mac's was the first place that came into my search engine for the NFL package. In the last year I have met wonderful people, have had great food and had a wonderful 30th birthday! But lately I don't feel appreciated as a customer. I come there minimum every weekend, and get NO free drinks. The staff treats me and my other regular friends as a burden. A lot of the locals I have met say they don't go to Mac's for the same reason, I have always brushed it off my shoulder because I have never received that treatment. My boyfriend and I go to Macs pretty often. The staff always remembers our names and they are always very friendly. They're usually really busy during football games and nights that they have a band. I find Nicholas R. "editorial" utterly ridiculous! I love going to Macs! I have never witnessed any such incident. The issue he is actually referring took place after Macs had begun to close and did not occur within the outside patio. It occurred outside the front door of the establishment. Last I checked, there are no bars / restaurants that are required to have "Sidewalk Monitors". If you wanna have fun, enjoy a wonderful staff, and create some great friendships- I highly recommend coming to Macs!! read more

Sat on the patio for open mic night. It was nearly impossible to get the waiter to bring a beer or food, and the food was sub-par at best. What appeared to be the "normal crowd" there singled us out, pointed and talked about our children, and even complained about them playing on the patio. The manager approached the children (ages 8 and under) about it rather than us. Later our children were made fun of by another "regular" patron for playing on iphones (what choice did we have after the manager reprimanded them?). When the manager was approached about it, he was just as rude as the patrons and clearly did not care that they were creating a hostile environment for us. Definitely will not go back to this low-class establishment. read more

Mac's SO wants to be the neighborhood bar, but it can't quite get beyond the novice stage. They have lots of TVs, sure; they have just enough distractions, game-wise (two pool tables, four darts lanes, the obligatory golf video game, etc.) to keep the younger set happy; but they can't seem to nail down the basics. That is, there seems to be either too much attention (as in asking how you are every 4.7 seconds) or way too little (as in going to fetch a beer and not coming back...ever). Plus, the place REEKS of cigarette smoke. Seriously. Just spend ten minutes in there. Even if no one is smoking at the time, I guarantee your clothes will stink of it to a ridiculous degree. read more
