Mac's Barbeque - Great ribs. the meat was tender ‍ - Barbeque Near Me - Warm Springs, Georgia

We stopped by after visiting the Litte White House. A tiny, welcoming spot that was well suited for our lunchtime needs. We ordered pulled pork sandwiches, onion rings, fries, chicken strips and Brunswick stew. Everything was delicious, good textures. However, the best of our dining experience was our gracious hostess, Jessica. She went above and beyond to ensure we were fully satisfied. We highly recommend Mac's BBQ. read more

The brisket is the thing! Don't waste your time with the chicken or the pork. Skip the Brunswick stew. Go straight to the brisket. Mac's is open. You order at the little window in the shack and they deliver the meal to your table on the screen porch of the house next door. We chatted with the barbeque master himself, Mac's son. He explained to us how he selects the brisket wraps it in foil and cooks it overnight. Then he lets it cool down and it goes into the fridge. When it's cold, he slices it as thin as possible. heats them up and the result is magical. I may have forgotten some other steps but they might well be part of Mac's proprietary process. If you are in Warm Springs, don't miss Mac's. If you're anywhere within 30 miles of Warm Springs, go out of your way. Mac's brisket is worth the detour. read more

This is one of my favorite hole in the wall barbecue joints. It's off the beaten path behind the strip in Warm springs and it's a hidden little gem. We found it during the pandemic and we are totally addicted to the stew and cue. The Brunswick stew is not too sweet which we like. I had never had bbq on top of the Brunswick stew before, but it's so good. We also love the redneck nachos and my kids love the pork sandwiches. Their homemade potato chips are also a fave which makes the redneck nachos so good! Their coleslaw is creamy, sweet, tasty, and worth a try. We usually order and eat at one of the many picnic tables, you can even bring your dogs! They have great options for kids meals which is always important to us. This is not a pretentious place at all so you can't get your panties in a wad if they don't have chili for the hot dogs or green onions for the redneck nachos. This is a country town and they do the best with what they have. To me it's a throwback to old school bbq joints and we love it. read more

It been a long standing eatery in this community, but their hours are not always available.

We absolutely love coming to this place when we visit Warm Springs!! Our pork sandwiches, onion rings and sweet tea were out of this world delicious!! Staff was extremely friendly, efficient and served us with a smile! Ambiance is welcoming and not pretentious. Will definitely keep coming back! read more

A quaint little bbq pit in Warm Springs. I just got he mini pork plate but sampled all of my family's goodies. The pork was excellent. Very tender and flavorful. Cole slaw good, but wished I'd substituted the awesome homemade potato salad. The Brunswick stew was awesome, too. read more

We love visiting local restaurants/hole in the walls! This was by far the WORST service and over all experience ever! Very hot seating area, they hand carry food from outside between buildings, were out of meats, and we were not given a receipt to see the charges.... a half-size corn dog, onion rings, nachos and two waters=$24! Horrible experience:(( read more

We were coming back from Cataula & saw this place. It was small but we thought WTH AND thankfully we stopped. It was EXCELLENT. The service was great. We got to eat in the little dining room & it was so nice. We even bought some to bring home. Its worth the drive & trying out. It's a definite GREAT PLACE FOR BAR B QUE read more

Good food good prices good people. What else do you need. Convenient hours and location

Simple, straightforward barbecue. Really juicy and tender meat. Decent cole slaw. The Brunswick stew was by far the best thing on the menu. Very hearty and comforting on a cold day! Nice service! Glad I came read more

Had the hungry man combo special with stew and coleslaw. Little to no flavor and sauce was just ok. Would not recommend.

This place is o.k. I'm giving them some benefit of the doubt because its one of the few places to eat in a tiny town. First, the day we went it was VERY small. They had a whole dining room they weren't using, and instead had only about 8 tables inside a small room. There was no room when we showed up, so we sat outside and ordered from the take-out window (table service was not an option outside). The food came up kind of slow, and was good -- but nothing special. The service as not overly friendly -- maybe a bit surly... I wouldn't refuse to go back, but I'm not lining up to go back either. read more

Still damned good, but the Butcher Paper BBQ in Opelika beat them out. Visit whichever is closest!

Mac's is good BBQ... I'd recommend the BBQ Sandwich and the Brunswick Stew. Both were excellent. As for the coleslaw - it's good but very sweet. However, I did eat all of mine . It is solid Barbeque and when you're in the area, it deserves a try. Service can be a touch slow so call ahead. I'd definitely eat here again! read more

Small but very friendly; food was very good and it was the best tea. Tea flavor was not too strong, not too weak but just right. Ribs were meaty, not too fat and cooked to perfection, pulled pork just as good. Cole slaw had the perfect mix of tart and sweet. Onion rings were amazing. We will certainly go back. read more

This place has excellent Barbeque! We highly recommend!! So much food for a great price. This is one of those hidden gems. We walked up and thought the place was closed. After we were there for 5 minutes it was booming. All the locals were getting meals to go. The Brunswick stew came with my ribs and was fantastic! The meat was so tender it fell off the bone. My meal also came with coleslaw, bread and a bag of chips. More than I could eat but some of the best ribs I've ever had. My husband got the inside chopped Barbeque and was thrilled with the hot Barbeque sauce they offered. read more

I don't even really like BBQ and I was blown away. The chipped pork sandwich with medium sauce will live in my culinary memory forever. The hospitality deserves 5 stars on its own. We showed up ten minutes before closed time and instead of making us get take out, an incredible waitress let us come in and made us feel at home while she closed up. Just as we were leaving, the owner popped his head in and told us a little bit about his family and his history as a BBQ man. Both he and his food are completely delightful and charming. read more

the boys strike again. this time it was after a fun hike at the FDR state park... exhausted and hungry we check the local scene and set in for some southern BBQ. the menu is basic, chicken , ribs, pulled pork, brisket, brunswick stew, coleslaw and various other tasty treats. I decided to settle with the rib plate (which comes with two slices of white bread, brunswick stew, coleslaw and a bag of regular lay chips) and the chili cheese fries. the ribs were pretty good. the only draw back was they were a little greasy. the flavor however was on point!! the star of my plate was the brunswick stew!! I could have had a massive bowl of just that stew, talk about lick your plate clean, delicious! the coleslaw was also very tasty! it was fine chopped slaw with a cool mild taste. not too tart, not to mayo driven, just PERFECT! the chili cheese fries were a big portion, lots of cheese, delicious chili and seasoned fries. the rest of the group had the pulled chicken plates. kudos to mac's for serving moist as tender pulled chicken breast. over all the staff was extremely friendly, courteous, and attentive. my sweet tea cup never hit empty. if you are in the area take this guys review and get you some BBQ at Mac's. read more

Oddly enough I went here with my sister and mom after hiking like the previous reviewer did. Anyway, five stars might be a little over the top, but I really enjoyed this place the time I had it. I got a brisket sandwich, which was quite good. The meat was pretty tasty. I wouldn't say it was the best I've had, but definitely pretty good. We also got an order of redneck nachos, and I loved them. So tasty. Homemade chips with barbecue, tangy sauce, and cheddar cheese. I'm definitely getting them next time I go. Edit: Went again. Had the pulled pork sandwich, which was delicious. It may not be world class bbq, but it's awesome if you're in the area. This place is my favorite BBQ joint in the Columbus/Pine Mountain area. Sure, that isn't saying much as I don't think any BBQ in Columbus is worth writing home about, but nonetheless... read more

This is no frills, southern style BBQ in a very casual establishment where the atmosphere fits the walkable vibe of downtown Warm Springs. You eat at picnic tables with table cloths on a screened porch. This isn't the distinct regional BBQ that you'd find in Memphis or Texas Hill Country. Nobody is going to make a pilgrimage here in search of ribs or write a book. It's just satisfactory pork BBQ (though they have some other meats) with sauce on the table and traditional side items like Brunswick Stew. It's not life-altering. It's more akin to something you might have at a family picnic. But if you're in the area, it's a great option for getting lunch. read more

My visit was pleasant. Is a very small well kept shack. I had the beef bbq and a rib, baked beans, and potato salad. The potato salad was fantastic, the beans good, the rib delicious, the meat was acceptable, a little dry. The sauces were a bit too liquidy for my taste, but I am not a BBQ eater. They do not have dark meats as far as the chicken, so I did not order it as I do not like breast or white meats, for that matter Sweet tea was BOMB! and service was great. They are way laid back out there and ever in a hurry. A great BBQ for all purposes of my visit to the town. I have yet to find "The one" read more

Want to go * * * * but it wasn't quite there. Brunswick stew was mediocre & I am a big BS kind a guy. Ribs were smoked well & sauce was good. I guess I am not a big fan of central GA tomato based BBQ sauce but it was good for that. Nice meaty ribs. Did not try the pulled pork but it looked good. Cole slaw was good. Not bad. Not great. Good. Needed a little something. Ice tea was fresh made - a biggie for me. Bread was not Sunbeam, which for me, is mandatory with BBQ! Very good service. I'd go back. read more

Ribs were really dry and difficult to eat, kids did enjoy the pulled pork sandwiches and french fries. Customer Service is lacking here.

Always delicious pork sandwiches and stew. It is quick service and the best BBQ in at least 100 miles radius.

A nice BBQ option when in Warm Springs. I had a BBQ sandwich and fries. You can choose between mild, medium or hot sauces. It's simple down home goodness. Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. Been around over 30 years, must be doing something right! I would return here. read more

I have visited Mac's almost weekly for about 2 yrs. This was always a place that myself and co-workers would eat every Tuesday. However, it wasn't for the food or experience, more a convenience due I location. The pork is very good and consistent each time. The QueStew is very good as well. The sides are the problem. No consistency to what is available each time. No lie, their fries are different every single time. One week it's steak fries, the next it's seasoned fries, then crinkled fries. I swear the owner buys what's on sale from the food distributor without regard to his regular customers. The service is usually pretty good. However, there is a lot of turnover with servers. This being a small town BBQ place; that matters. read more

Now if you want to "hear banjos" and be served by old country Georgia "Cousins", this is the place. The ambiance is "Deliverance" and the food is GREAT!. Its a shack, where some of your order comes from a small kitchen that you can see, and the rest comes from somewhere outside the building. We saw our french fries coming from another shack. We loved the experience and were not taken by it at all, The Cole Slaw was the best, and the French Fries were real..My wife and I ordered rib sandwich, that turned out to be "Build Your Own" . The order came with an ample supply delicious smoked and barbecued ribs on the bone, and 2 slices of bread to make your own sandwich. Notice 4 stars.... this place was fun and good. Even though, they didn't know it was fun, only we did. read more

My favorite BBQ. Every Time I come to stay at my parents I go get BBQ here. Nothing fancy but love their sauce.

So yum!!! Open on Sunday. I took a day trip and took back dinner for 6. Two lbs of pulled pork and a slab of ribs. The ribs are AMAZING! Kinda crunchy on the outside with fantastic slow smokey tastes. The sauce is whatev. Kinda tangy good. Small small section of sides. Bummed they didn't have corn bread or mac and cheese. I mean it is called Mac's read more

Food was good, we ate there at lunch. Parking was a bit confusing. Had a Regular Barbeque Plate. All was good, basically what you get at any roadside BBQ stand. The Tea was GREAT! My only complaint was it felt a little like we were intruding when we came in. Not very welcoming of weary campers. But good food at a reasonable price. read more

Food was great, staff was awesome. If planning a trip to Warm Springs definitely make a stop here.

Went to fdr's little White House and decided to eat in warm springs. We got the pork sandwhich, Bbq beef plate and pork mini plate. The Cole slaw was fantastic If that's all I ate I'd give it a 5 star. But the beef was tough and chewy. The Bbq sauce looked and tasted like Heinz 57. Pulled pork had a lot of fat in it. The Cole slaw was the saving grace. read more

Decided to give this place a try while I was visiting Warm Springs and lemme tell you it absolutely did not disappoint at all!! There's a bunch of you who won't like this place. I've been going here for good Southern BBQ since 1955, when I was 8. Figure it out. It's old. Shoot, it was run down when I went there holding my Okasan's hand the first time. There is not a square inch of the interior walls and ceiling that's not smoke stained, and you WILL come out smelling really fine, in my opinion. Black bears and swamp cats will think you're the main course, should you stumble out into the woods. The hams, chickens, and ribs are all locally sourced, as is the hickory wood. This is South Georgia Barbecue, not Texas, not South Carolina, not Memphis, and NOT St. Louis. The BBQ pork is always moist and served on a paper plate with a piece of white bread from where ever they can get it cheapest that day. You get your choice of ONE sauce- they make it. It's sweet and thick. You can get heat from the Tobasco or Red Rooster bottles. The Brunswick stew tends to the runny side, but has excellent flavor. Back in the 50's, it was not uncommon for stew with squirrel meat mixed in to be served. Not now (I think). It will be served to you in a paper tray. Saltines are in a box on a table. Cole slaw is mayo-based and sweet. French fries were frozen crinklies from Piggly Wiggly tossed in a fryer til brown, then salted within a fair-thee-well. Ketchup is probably NOT going to be Heinz. Your implements will be the least expensive plastic that can be obtained locally. No napkins, my dear. That's what the bread and paper towels they give you are for. Beverages? Sweet tea, well water, and the ubiquitous fountain o' Coke products suffice. I miss the old ice cooler filled with Orange Crush, Mountain Dew, Nehi Grape, and Double Cola buried under a mound of ice chunks. Do yourself a favor and don't show up being trendy with a haute cuisine attitude. This place ain't none of that. They'll be friendly anyway, but you'll stick out like a Yule Log in a woodshed. read more

Just as good as I remembered from last year's visit (we pass through the area once a year on our way to Texas). I had the sliced pork sandwich and unsweetened iced tea. Good tea and the sliced pork is heaven in a bun. Moist with a lovely smoke flavor. I like the fact that the sandwich comes unsauced; the meat is so good it doesn't need anything on it though there is mild and medium sauces on the table. The large slices of pork were literally hanging out the sides of the bun. Since potato salad was offered the day we were there, I had that as a side; it was very good with the sandwich. Husband ordered the house-made potato chips which came out piping hot and were addictive. Next year I will aim for the sliced pork plate so I can try the Brunswick stew. read more
