We stopped by after visiting the Litte White House. A tiny, welcoming spot that was well suited for our lunchtime needs. We ordered pulled pork sandwiches, onion rings, fries, chicken strips and Brunswick stew. Everything was delicious, good textures. However, the best of our dining experience was our gracious hostess, Jessica. She went above and beyond to ensure we were fully satisfied. We highly recommend Mac's BBQ. read more

The brisket is the thing! Don't waste your time with the chicken or the pork. Skip the Brunswick stew. Go straight to the brisket. Mac's is open. You order at the little window in the shack and they deliver the meal to your table on the screen porch of the house next door. We chatted with the barbeque master himself, Mac's son. He explained to us how he selects the brisket wraps it in foil and cooks it overnight. Then he lets it cool down and it goes into the fridge. When it's cold, he slices it as thin as possible. heats them up and the result is magical. I may have forgotten some other steps but they might well be part of Mac's proprietary process. This is one of my favorite hole in the wall barbecue joints. It's off the beaten path behind the strip in Warm springs and it's a hidden little gem. We found it during the pandemic and we are totally addicted to the stew and cue. The Brunswick stew is not too sweet which we like. I had never had bbq on top of the Brunswick stew before, but it's so good. We also love the redneck nachos and my kids love the pork sandwiches. Their homemade potato chips are also a fave which makes the redneck nachos so good! Their coleslaw is creamy, sweet, tasty, and worth a try. We usually order and eat at one of the many picnic tables, you can even bring your dogs! They have great options for kids meals which is always important to us. This is not a pretentious place at all so you can't get your panties in a wad if they don't have chili for the hot dogs or green onions for the redneck nachos. This is a country town and they do the best with what they have. To me it's a throwback to old school bbq joints and we love it. read more

We love visiting local restaurants/hole in the walls! This was by far the WORST service and over all experience ever! Very hot seating area, they hand carry food from outside between buildings, were out of meats, and we were not given a receipt to see the charges.... a half-size corn dog, onion rings, nachos and two waters=$24! Small but very friendly; food was very good and it was the best tea. Tea flavor was not too strong, not too weak but just right. This place is o.k. I'm giving them some benefit of the doubt because its one of the few places to eat in a tiny town. First, the day we went it was VERY small. They had a whole dining room they weren't using, and instead had only about 8 tables inside a small room. There was no room when we showed up, so we sat outside and ordered from the take-out window (table service was not an option outside). The food came up kind of slow, and was good -- but nothing special. The service as not overly friendly -- maybe a bit surly... This place has excellent Barbeque! We highly recommend!! So much food for a great price. This is one of those hidden gems. We walked up and thought the place was closed. After we were there for 5 minutes it was booming. All the locals were getting meals to go. The Brunswick stew came with my ribs and was fantastic! The meat was so tender it fell off the bone. My meal also came with coleslaw, bread and a bag of chips. More than I could eat but some of the best ribs I've ever had. I don't even really like BBQ and I was blown away. The chipped pork sandwich with medium sauce will live in my culinary memory forever. The hospitality deserves 5 stars on its own. We showed up ten minutes before closed time and instead of making us get take out, an incredible waitress let us come in and made us feel at home while she closed up. Just as we were leaving, the owner popped his head in and told us a little bit about his family and his history as a BBQ man. Both he and his food are completely delightful and charming. read more

I decided to settle with the rib plate (which comes with two slices of white bread, brunswick stew, coleslaw and a bag of regular lay chips) and the chili cheese fries. the ribs were pretty good. the only draw back was they were a little greasy. the flavor however was on point!! the star of my plate was the brunswick stew!! I could have had a massive bowl of just that stew, talk about lick your plate clean, delicious! the coleslaw was also very tasty! it was fine chopped slaw with a cool mild taste. not too tart, not to mayo driven, just PERFECT! the chili cheese fries were a big portion, lots of cheese, delicious chili and seasoned fries. the rest of the group had the pulled chicken plates. kudos to mac's for serving moist as tender pulled chicken breast. over all the staff was extremely friendly, courteous, and attentive. my sweet tea cup never hit empty. if you are in the area take this guys review and get you some BBQ at Mac's. read more

Oddly enough I went here with my sister and mom after hiking like the previous reviewer did. Anyway, five stars might be a little over the top, but I really enjoyed this place the time I had it. I got a brisket sandwich, which was quite good. The meat was pretty tasty. I wouldn't say it was the best I've had, but definitely pretty good. We also got an order of redneck nachos, and I loved them. So tasty. Homemade chips with barbecue, tangy sauce, and cheddar cheese. I'm definitely getting them next time I go. Edit: Went again. You eat at picnic tables with table cloths on a screened porch. This isn't the distinct regional BBQ that you'd find in Memphis or Texas Hill Country. Nobody is going to make a pilgrimage here in search of ribs or write a book. It's just satisfactory pork BBQ (though they have some other meats) with sauce on the table and traditional side items like Brunswick Stew. It's not life-altering. My visit was pleasant. Is a very small well kept shack. I had the beef bbq and a rib, baked beans, and potato salad. The potato salad was fantastic, the beans good, the rib delicious, the meat was acceptable, a little dry. The sauces were a bit too liquidy for my taste, but I am not a BBQ eater. They do not have dark meats as far as the chicken, so I did not order it as I do not like breast or white meats, for that matter Sweet tea was BOMB! and service was great. Its a shack, where some of your order comes from a small kitchen that you can see, and the rest comes from somewhere outside the building. We saw our french fries coming from another shack. We loved the experience and were not taken by it at all, The Cole Slaw was the best, and the French Fries were real..My wife and I ordered rib sandwich, that turned out to be "Build Your Own" . I have visited Mac's almost weekly for about 2 yrs. This was always a place that myself and co-workers would eat every Tuesday. However, it wasn't for the food or experience, more a convenience due I location. The pork is very good and consistent each time. The QueStew is very good as well. The sides are the problem. No consistency to what is available each time. No lie, their fries are different every single time. One week it's steak fries, the next it's seasoned fries, then crinkled fries. I swear the owner buys what's on sale from the food distributor without regard to his regular customers. The service is usually pretty good. However, there is a lot of turnover with servers. The Cole slaw was fantastic If that's all I ate I'd give it a 5 star. But the beef was tough and chewy. The Bbq sauce looked and tasted like Heinz 57. Pulled pork had a lot of fat in it. There's a bunch of you who won't like this place. I've been going here for good Southern BBQ since 1955, when I was 8. Figure it out. It's old. Shoot, it was run down when I went there holding my Okasan's hand the first time. There is not a square inch of the interior walls and ceiling that's not smoke stained, and you WILL come out smelling really fine, in my opinion. Black bears and swamp cats will think you're the main course, should you stumble out into the woods. The hams, chickens, and ribs are all locally sourced, as is the hickory wood. This is South Georgia Barbecue, not Texas, not South Carolina, not Memphis, and NOT St. Louis. The BBQ pork is always moist and served on a paper plate with a piece of white bread from where ever they can get it cheapest that day. You get your choice of ONE sauce- they make it. It's sweet and thick. You can get heat from the Tobasco or Red Rooster bottles. The Brunswick stew tends to the runny side, but has excellent flavor. Back in the 50's, it was not uncommon for stew with squirrel meat mixed in to be served. Not now (I think). It will be served to you in a paper tray. Saltines are in a box on a table. Cole slaw is mayo-based and sweet. French fries were frozen crinklies from Piggly Wiggly tossed in a fryer til brown, then salted within a fair-thee-well. Ketchup is probably NOT going to be Heinz. Your implements will be the least expensive plastic that can be obtained locally. No napkins, my dear. That's what the bread and paper towels they give you are for. Beverages? Sweet tea, well water, and the ubiquitous fountain o' Coke products suffice. I miss the old ice cooler filled with Orange Crush, Mountain Dew, Nehi Grape, and Double Cola buried under a mound of ice chunks. Do yourself a favor and don't show up being trendy with a haute cuisine attitude. This place ain't none of that. They'll be friendly anyway, but you'll stick out like a Yule Log in a woodshed. read more

Just as good as I remembered from last year's visit (we pass through the area once a year on our way to Texas). I had the sliced pork sandwich and unsweetened iced tea. Good tea and the sliced pork is heaven in a bun. Moist with a lovely smoke flavor. I like the fact that the sandwich comes unsauced; the meat is so good it doesn't need anything on it though there is mild and medium sauces on the table. The large slices of pork were literally hanging out the sides of the bun. Since potato salad was offered the day we were there, I had that as a side; it was very good with the sandwich. Husband ordered the house-made potato chips which came out piping hot and were addictive. Next year I will aim for the sliced pork plate so I can try the Brunswick stew. read more
