Selectivity/Transparency- They don't let you select your meals and you can't see what you're ordering before you confirm. This is especially problematic when it comes to adding any of their snacks. You can't try just one and have to order it per how many meals you're getting. So they're asking you to commit to minimum 4 snacks without even a photo or description of what you'll get. Also, no matter how many meals you order, you have to commit to- and pay for- two days per week of deliveries. So you might pay a $10 fee for a second weekly delivery of only 1 or 2 meals. Make it make sense. Food Restrictions- Even if you ask for them to exclude certain foods, they won't get it right. If they do swap an ingredient for something else, they don't update the ingredients sticker/instructions so you don't even know what you got. I've been using Macroplate for years. The food is fresh, high quality. They deliver nightly. The customer service staff is really friendly. The platitudes end there. You don't select your daily meals like with other delivery services. They recycle the same meals over and over (and over and over and over) again. You can list meals that you want to exclude. Maybe you don't like them, maybe they upset your stomach, maybe they aren't worth the price. The problem is that Macroplate will repeatedly disregard those instructions and deliver and bill you for food you specifically said you don't want. This happens a lot (like a lot, a lot). In the same vein, you need to advise Macroplates by Tuesday of days that you won't require delivery the following week. They say it's because they need to buy food in advance, but think about this, if I'm out of town next Friday, you are buying the fresh food for that Friday ten days in advance? Gross if true, but also, probably not true. Regardless, that never matters anyway, because repeatedly I've advised in a timely manner when I'll be out of town only (1) to be charged anyway; and (2) to have deliveries arrive when I'm out of town. On the former point, I was advised the policy is just to charge me anyway and credit my account in the future. That's the rhetorical straw that broke the camel's back. I'm not trying to make a short term loan to Macroplate. Obviously, I liked this service enough to use it for years. Maybe you should, too. Of course, I didn't get my meals and was told it was my fault because they were going out of their way to accommodate my "rush request." So, it's my fault you screwed up? And now I'm being blamed for asking to have your mistake fixed? Got it. I did get my meals the following day, but was missing the snacks. And then had to call again. This time it's wasn't their fault but it was a "technical error." As many other people have mentioned they have this email support portal with Zendesk that's like a black hole. Whatever you send in doesn't come out for days and it's never helpful when it does. It takes 2-3 days to receive a response anytime you have a request. And you can imagine how difficult and frustrating that gets if every single time you send a message it takes 2-3 days to get a response. Didn't get your meals today? Send in an email support ticket and in 2 days they'll process it and respond. Maybe if you're lucky then you'll get your meals next week. The phone isn't any better. Worse on the phone, they always have an excuse or "reason" why they screwed up instead of just owning their mistakes. My wife canceled her subscription weeks ago. While writing this I don't know why I've kept mine for so long. But like I said, the food is excellent and if you never travel or need to contact support to modify your meal delivery then you're golden. I'd give this 2.5 stars if I could. The good: Food is pretty good. Great portions of protein on the plans with meat. My delivery was always on time and in the perfect location, so my delivery driver seemed to really care and did a good job. Food was fresh. If you're cutting, the high protein and paleo plans are great. I did complain at one point that my meals were extremely salty and within a few days of customer service finally responding the issue did actually improve, so I was impressed there. The bad: Customer service is extremely difficult to reach over email. They take 3+ days to respond and then when they do respond it's not helpful and then you get put back in the queue. But if you have an issue they have super strict communication deadlines, so it seems like a double standard there. They're better over the phone but I had to call about 5 times to get one issue resolved and having to call every morning before noon about the same issue so you can get a refund is frustrating (especially if you're the type of busy person that would use this kind of service). They advertise that you can have a vegan plan but that's not actually possible as there is no way to remove egg whites from your plan. The vegetarian meals don't seem to be actually planned by a vegetarian chef, as many had very low protein amounts (see photos with amounts listed vs what is shown on the website) and not as much variety. You know when you go to a steakhouse and order a vegetarian meal and it's meh... it's like that. There's no way to get plant based meals in the normal plans. I also had two weeks where I received an egg white scramble or egg white omelet with some form of potato every single morning and that got very old very fast. I loved the pancakes, waffles and protein bowls, but those were incredibly infrequent. I then switched to non-breakfast meals only, but realized that almost every day one of my two meals was a Mexican dish and I got very sick of it. Food allergy exclusions are hit and miss. If you have severe allergies or are celiac, I'd pass on this. I listed no gluten and no dairy and often received flour tortillas or sauces with dairy. Mine were more preferences so I only complained once, but if your allergy is an anaphylactic or autoimmune situation, this is not a trustworthy service. Finally, I just tried to skip weeks on my plan online and there was no way to do so. There used to be, so I don't know what's wrong with my account. They also don't make it easy to cancel with an email template or way to cancel online, which, if you're a CA customer, is not in line with CA law. This means you get to deal with customer service, which as I mentioned above, is lacking. Overall: When it works, it's a very convenient service with good quality food, but at the price, you expect great service and good variety. If they fix the customer service issues, allow easy management (and cancellation) of your plan online, and increase the vegetarian options and protein in the vegetarian plan (bring on a vegan chef!), I'd consider rejoining. Cons: --Food quality is POOR and even sometimes UNDERCOOKED, including parts of chicken that were still raw, causing me to get stomach flu; this happened to me more than once and also happened to one of my colleagues. --OVERPRICED meals with SMALL portions and NO VARIETY; the meals were so REPETITIVE that on some days the lunch and dinner would be the same exact meal --Worst customer service imaginable; the people on the phone are not helpful when you have an issue with a delivery, they tell you that they "will investigate why the error happened and get back to you", but then they never follow up unless you keep calling and emailing them. --Even when you specifically ask them to exclude certain meals from deliveries because of allergies, they will continue sending those meals and charging you for them. I've also shared with family and friends and everyone who's tried it is pleased. Delivery- the deliveries for this company are every day instead of once a week. Despite the frequency They've never forgotten me or delivered to the wrong house. Only one time it was late and they texted me, communicated and then they fixed the internal issue because now it comes each day at 11 pm like clockwork. I see and value that! Variety- I'm definitely not bored of eating the same foods. the foods change each day and there are few to no repeats. I don't know where the food is coming from but the delivery is never on time. They are supposed to deliver food three days a week; on the morning of the delivery I get a link which gives me an ETA but each time you refresh it the delivery time gets pushed back more and more. Today I was supposed to receive my order at 11:30 am and it showed just 2 stops before delivery but it is now 9:40 pm and I never received my food. I called customer service and there was no apology; they couldn't even explain what happened. All they could say is that they would call the delivery guy to get an ETA, which wasn't helpful. So hands down this food is super tasty for being "diet food". They always have great sauces, the garlic aioli being one of my favorites. The chicken is usually always tender and the shrimp was great. Burgers and chicken sandwiches were delicious!!! And the turkey chili. All their dishes were between 400-500 calories. I did the traditional plan and my boyfriend did the High protein/ low carb plan. He barely got any pasta or rice with his dishes so if u want an even amount of rice and meat , i would suggest traditional. My boyfriend also did the breakfasts and loved the waffles and stuff that he got. The customer service is super nice. Although they never answer the phones unless you call 20 times in a row- they are super quick to answer emails. Some of the things I didnt like were the "Asian" themed dishes (Chinese, Mongolian, Thai, Japanese, etc) . It definitely tasted like an American person was trying to make Asian food and it was not good. I love all kinds of Asian food and these just tasted soooo bad, like food out of the frozen isle at the grocery store. The steak was disgusting, we both had a stomach ache from it so we had to opt it out of our meals. It was just weird and rubbery in my opinion. I definitely read someone else mention the steak being terrible so I have to agree with that!! It is an expensive food subscription, and the food is very good. However, as mentioned in many other comments, the service does not match the food quality. They would do well to hire a new COO or someone over operations and customer service. In addition, you're not able to see a menu of your meals, and therefore cannot make changes. This lack of customization doesn't align with the price. This could also reflect area of improvement with operations. I believe the lack of menu allows them to "wing it" a bit with the meals and probably results in less waste. At the same time, some of the meals aren't always a match and it seems like they may have ran out of something or used what was readily available. I have the gluten free plan, so sometimes I'll get gluten-free bread for sandwiches. Other times, I'll get lettuce instead (even though the instructions say bread). I mean, who eats a bbq sandwich on lettuce? So... things like this happen. Once I got raw chicken and sent them a picture and the service team said, "it has never happened to anyone else." As if I was not being honest?? I believe there may also be a language barrier with the service team, or they work out of the country, because I've encountered the same issue with asking for my plan to be pause on certain days and them getting the days wrong-- multiple times. And taking days to respond. So, service could use serious improvement. Customization is lacking. All in all, the food quality and delivery convenience is what keeps me a customer because there are more affordable options with better service. I like their continued variety though, where other services have a repeating menu, which can get old quick. In terms of the food quality, the traditional meal plan was outstanding. I never realized how much of a burden planning out my meals were and how time consuming it was. Out of desperation I would reach for anything quick and fast which is usually unhealthy. However this meal plan was a game changer, I certainly recommend trying it out for a week. I've been using MacroPlate for a little more than 3 months: 3x meals a day, 5x days a week, Paleo. (I don't do snacks or breakfast, which I prefer to handle myself.) I absolutely LOVE them and credit them for a huge part of my weight loss success: down 26 lbs in 15 wks. The food is delicious & varied. I tabulated 65 different meals across 198 total meal deliveries, which means only 3 repeats per meal on average in 3 months. All in all, a GREAT experience! They allow you to input the types of food you are allergic to or dislike, so the meals are made to your specifications. I have yet to have a meal I don't like, and I am on my 4th week. (Also, I'm pretty picky when it comes to quality of food) I tried another meal prep company prior to macro plate, and while I enjoyed their food, they were constantly screwing up and had terrible customer service. There was an instance where my delivery was sent incorrectly with macro plate, and Maryam with the support team fixed it immediately, and refunded that delivery. Anytime I have needed to speak to the customer service team, Maryam has helped, and I have never been disappointed.
