I had an appalling and possibly racially discriminatory experience at the El Super at Florence and San Pedro on August 1, 2026. A simple $18.99 purchase and refund turned into employees ignoring me, mishandling my money, threatening to call the police, and falsely claiming I was intoxicated. I ordered pastries from the bakery, paid at the register, and returned with my receipt. I then saw the bakery employee working with chocolate without gloves and touching the chocolate with her bare finger. The pastries were not wrapped. They sat on small cupcake-style paper liners that did not cover the pastries. She picked them up by those liners with her bare hands and returned other pastries she had handled to the display case. When I questioned this, she kept insisting she "only touched the paper," as though an exposed pastry sitting on a small liner was sanitary protection. I no longer felt comfortable accepting the food and requested a refund. The bakery employee accompanied me to the front and explained that I needed a refund. Because of the hostile looks and treatment I was receiving, I decided to return my entire $18.99 order. I clearly stated this before the refund began and placed all merchandise on the counter. Instead of completing the return, employees spoke among themselves while ignoring my questions about my money. The problem was not that they spoke Spanish. The problem was that bilingual employees used English to chastise me but would not explain what they were doing with my transaction. One employee gave me a receipt implying that $7.47 had been refunded, but I later learned that no refund had been completed. They then opened the register and began serving other customers while my refund remained unresolved, as though I was supposed to move aside and leave without my money or merchandise. I had already explained the issue calmly several times. I raised my voice and requested management only after being repeatedly ignored. Store director Antonio eventually responded but initially focused more on policing my tone than resolving the simple issue: the store had my returned merchandise, but I did not have my money. I began recording because I did not feel safe and needed documentation before he reluctantly cooperated. An assistant manager whose name tag appeared to read Olga inserted herself, spoke to me condescendingly, threatened to call the police, and told another employee to say I was intoxicated. There was absolutely no basis for that accusation, and it was recorded. When I told her to call the police so she could explain why she was accusing me of intoxication for demanding a refund, no call was made. Antonio ultimately told her to leave the area because she was making the situation worse. Although I paid with my Chase card less than an hour earlier, management claimed the system could not return the money to my original payment method. They voided or attempted to void the transaction and gave me cash, despite my repeated request that the refund go back to my card. They also tried to keep my original receipts until I demanded them back. As a Black customer, I felt singled out, dehumanized, and treated as though I was dishonest or dangerous merely because I questioned unsanitary food handling and insisted that the store return my money. I watched Hispanic customers receive immediate attention while my unfinished transactions were repeatedly interrupted and pushed aside. I have receipts and video documenting the police threat, false intoxication accusation, and refund mishandling. Corporate management should investigate the bakery's food handling, register and refund records, surveillance footage, and the conduct of every employee involved. This was not ordinary poor customer service. It was hostile, humiliating, and deeply disturbing. I will not return. read more

4 of July 2026 I purchased several 12 packs of soda, one being coca cola. Posted price was $5.60, I was charged $10.99. When I asked the cashier about the price discrepancy the young lady informed me you had to purchase atleast 4 to get that price. I informed her the sign does not indicate that, she ignored me and staring ringing up the next customer. I went to check the sign, there was a small print in spanish that I could not read. I asked for a manager because I was not happy with the sign not being in English, I was told the manager was busy. Being that it was a holiday and busy I left. Please have signs posted in both languages. read more

This market is very close to my job and from time to time I drop in to go to the hot food bar. The hot food is always good really good. That's why I was so disappointed when I went today and the food was sub-par. I always get the spinach and cheese pupusas. I bought two and both were over cooked. The plantains were under cooked , the taquitos (smoothers with lettuces sauce and cheese) were perfect. But the worst item of all was the dried out inedible churro. Like I said, I was shocked and disappointed, such a waste of money. One thing I hate to add but it's the truth is, being African-American in a prodomimem read more

The food bar. I get it things are different post-covid. And everything, everywhere, is sooooo much more complicated that just means we have to adapt. They hire people with some of the worst attitudes ever. They have 11 security guards. Meal minutes are mids. Lines are usually good. But my God some of these women have the WORST attitudes. Today I told the lady my purchase order several times and she still got it wrong. I purchased one cheese empanada and one chicken. They dont have the cilantro creamy sauce here. I got one cheese and one beef and why do they keep setting up the patreon to fail like selling us aguas with no lids or putting orders on tiny little disposable plates with no lids. To-go food=to-go container. That's just logical. Ojala que se ubiqen. read more

Called before I came to get carnitas and they said the hot food closed at 9. Got there at 8:30 and everything was already spotless clean and the food been thrown out for a while. Then the girl wants to give all the attitude in the world read more

Spoiled Tres Leches Birthday Cake I usually go to this Super it's most convenient for me since it's so close to my neighborhood but honestly this last time they sold me a spoiled tres leches cake for my moms birthday. It smelled very awful and my mom being the birthday girl didn't show much expression to the situation but I know she felt horrible. This made me so very upset. No one got to share any cake. I most definitely went and got my money back but I feel those who purchase any pastries cakes etc should be very aware of this. There must be something to stop this from occurring later on in the future. My mom took a bite and one of my 7 year old brothers had 2 slices. My sister pointed out to me that it was indeed spoiled. You can even spot the molded strawberry read more

I'm just now leaving the store I can't believe how rude the cashier was to me . She seemed to be very nice to the other customers who were Hispanic ,but when she got to me an African American woman she was very rude she stood there tapping her finger the whole time rushing me and I even looked up and saw her making faces to her co worker about me she didn't even seem to care about being discreet. She had an aggressive energy I will never shop here again because of her. CASHIER #1618 read more

Store is average for its demographic. Staple goods are expensive, produce was priced affordable.

Older man Hispanic Security Guard are rude and cashier. I won't ever go back to this store. No respect really disrespect to Customers.

This placer got fined because it made their Sick employees come to work until they got their Covid test results back. Didn't pay their sick time off and put the whole community in danger with its irresponsible management structure of not letting employees off when sick. At a place that sells food!! Never going back here again, its employers like this the reason there's so many people quitting. 0 read more

Great Hispanic market, Cathering to your daily needs at the best prices in the industry.

This store is messy, they do not offer a wide variety of selection and they only have 2 cashiers opened at a time. I never shop here because I already know it's an inconvenience, but I went in today for one thing and it is the last time I ever shop here. If you like wasting your time, shop here. read more

My first visit (5months ago) was in the afternoon and I was not happy, no parking, super long lines and barely enough room to walk. Second visit was in the evening - much better, enough parking, small lines and better customer service. The reason we visit this location - GREAT DEALS on produce almost all the time. read more

Customer service is horrible ! The evening manager a woman is freakin rude and doesn't seem to give a f*** of what customers want or need. I waited about 15 min just to trying to get someone to get me something from one of the top shelves. After a while I went back to talk to the manager and she had the audacity to tell me there was no more. Even though there was stock visible at the very top of the shelf she was not willing to go look . Never coming back here !!! read more

I would come back food is good. read more

Just a horrible place to come grocery shopping. Let me explain why. The cashier lines are very slow and they do not open new ones whenever they get too long. I frequent this place alot due to my job but I would not recommend this establishment. In fact, avoid this specific El Super location. As I previously mentioned, I come here alot but just recently I have been treated very rudely at the kitchen cashier. They have replaced the nice cashier ladies with some older ladies who would treat you with a bit of attitude. When this place switched from El Tapatio to El Super it gained a huge makeover, but service speed has gone from bad to worse. read more

It's been ridiculous the last visit I had here they didn't have half of the items I needed to make a simple basic meal besides that, the worst experience of all was when I checked out, I was with a friend we where each buying our own things and just because we went together to the store we were told that we couldn't pay in different transactions at the 10 items or less register they are so absurd and have a huge lack of customer service. That was definitely the last time I go to that grocery store at all. read more

My mother recently went to this store and was treated very badly. My mother accidentally got into the express lane for 10 items or less which was empty. The employee at that register was very rude to my mother, unfortunately I was not able to get her name. After my mom had apologized, the rude cashier told my mom that she wouldn't attend her even though the lane was empty. After that happened, on the same day, another cashier yelled at my mother for no reason. My mother went to talk to the manager in which the manager just said she couldn't help. This is horrible customer service. I am incredibly disappointed, I always thought the manager is there to help but apparently not at this store. read more
