There is something about old, family-run restaurants that I find very appealing. I don't know if it's the belief that they must be serving great food for them to last long, or if it's wanting to support them and being a patron so they don't close down, or the old-world charm of untouched walls from the 70s or even 50s. Or, well, it could really just be the food. Macky's is no exception.
Their goto is scrumptious, with a light texture, not too thick, tasty but not overly flavorful, with a tinge of yellow that makes it look like it's arrozcaldo. It's perfect to be paired with the classic tokwa't baboy, which Macky's serves with strips of onion to contrast the taste of the pork and tofu, and compliment the sweet, sour and salty sauce. If tokwa't baboy isn't your thing, their palabok is also quite delicious, and same goes for their cheeseburger. Best to wash these down with either a bottle (bottle!) of Coke, or a can of Gina Mango Juice. Yep, that mango juice in a can that our grandmothers or moms used to drinks way back. read more
