As I sit and reflect on the meal we were so very fortunate to partake in, I worry I won't be able to articulate my true feelings. Let me begin by saying, my wife and I feel truly blessed with the ability to enjoy some of the finer things in life. We never forget where we came from, nor our obligation to look after our less fortunate brothers and sisters in this life. My wife and I avoid excess constantly, as displaying wealth (in our opinions) degrades and cankers the soul, not to mention, wastes resources that could be allocated to those who have little to nothing. With my aforementioned sermon stated, let's talk about the food (mostly BEEF). We had the opportunity to enjoy not one, but two Japanese super high end delicacies, Grade 5 Matsusaka Beef and Blue Fin Tuna Belly "Nigiri" (sushi with rice). I love Japan as I've spent more than three years of my life there, speak and read the language, have lots of friends there and consider Japan to be one of my homes away from home. Matsusaka Beef is revered, it's limited, hard to find, is the top rated Beef in the world and is extremely expensive. Is it worth it? Yes, but we won't eat it again, based on our core values. No doubt many if not most of you have heard of Kobe Beef, but have never tasted the real deal, as "American Kobe Beef," and other pseudo knock offs are all over the place. Unless you're in LA, Chicago or NYC, your chances of even tasting Kobe Beef, let alone Matsusaka Beef, are slim to none. Look at the picture I took of the uncooked grade 5 Matsusaka, it's marbling of fat and fat ring are unsurpassed. I would encourage all of you to look up Kobe, Waygu and Matsusaka Beef on Google and make sure you view them in images, so you're never deceived, because deception with this stuff is rampant. I've had Blue Fin Tuna before and it's beyond delicious, although limited and hard to find, it's a lot easier to come by than Matsusaka Beef. Kobe and Waygu Beef are several notches below Matsusaka, rightfully so. I've had all three and Matsusaka is on it's own level with nothing close to its taste, texture and opulence. The restaurant may be in The Philippines, but the experience was entirely Japanese. We were offered 3 dipping sauces with the Beef, none of them were used, for the same reason you don't ask for steak sauce at a high end steak house. The meat speaks for itself and let me tell you, it had a lot to say, all of it fantastic. The Blue Fin Tuna was equally as good, but different. Separate, but equal in their own right. Both were pinnacles of perfection that rule over all others in said category. The food was prepared perfectly and with precision. The staff was more than accommodating and waited on us hand and foot, nothing was amiss. Ogetsu Hime, is a precious Japanese Jewel in the heart of Manila, not to be missed. read more
