    Beef Lomo Saltado

Small shop in a strip mall but super friendly employee. Very welcoming. We tried the Lomo Saltado plate of course. It was very favorable and really liked the sauce she gave us with it. Great kick! I can see why this place has wonderful reviews. It's not much to look at at first- but definitely go in and try.

Small restaurant, BIG flavor! We walked in and were greeted right away and sat atbour table. Our waitress came to us quickly and explained the menu for us and gave us her recommendations! She also gave us a sample of the most popular drinks the Chicha Morada and the passion fruit drink which were both great. We ordered a Empanadas de Carne and it was super moist and tasty! Wen only wished the pork was cut or chopped into smaller pieces. Our entrees were the Aji de Galina A Spicy creamy chicken, shredded in a creamy yellow pepper sauce. Served with white rice and three slices of boiled potatoes and wow was it delicious! Felt like comfort food from grandma's kitchen! We also ordered the Tallarin Verdes A Pesto sauce Peruvian style pasta served with steak on top! The steak was tender and moist while the noodles were bright and tasty with the abundant pesto sauce! The restaurant is small, clean and quiet with lots of regulars it seemed. The staff was friendly and very accommodating. We will definitely be back to try more dishes!

The Chaufa with beef and beef empanada.

I've been driving past Machu Picchu Peruvian Grill on Bandera Road for awhile, saying to my family that I've never had Peruvian food & wanted to try it one day. Today was that day The family ordered beef Empanadas, Beef Chaufa (beef fried rice), Tallarin Saltado, half a pollo à la brasa with fries, fried Yucca, and a side salad. We all shared & there was so much food that it will be lunch tomorrow because the portions are generous! As my first experience, I cannot talk about authenticity, but the flavors were amazing. I know I'll especially be ordering more of the empanadas and fried Yucca may be my newest favorite side dish. I'm glad I gave it a try.

This was my first experience with Peruvian food! Having seen rave reviews of the Lomo Saltado, my friends ordered that and the Tallarin Saltado with chicken to share amongst the three of us. It was just the right amount of food - and it was delicious! Both dishes had an obvious tinge of saltiness to them, but it wasn't overpowering. The noodles in the Tallarin Saltado were more like pasta noodles so I would definitely call it a pasta stir-fry - how interesting is that! The person managing the counter also took our orders and was very courteous and friendly with his suggestions - we got the maracuya (a passion fruit drink) upon his recommendation and it was very refreshing on a hot July afternoon, also pairing really well with the food. I would love to come back here and try the rest of the menu!!

We have had some delicious Peruvian food & this place is no exception! We ordered sodas- which were cans. If I order soda, I do prefer fountain drinks. However the sw.tea we ordered first had an unusual flavor &was very sweet. We tried to order 2 different appetizers, but they were "out". Disappointing, but we enjoyed our lunch- I ordered the Lomo Saltado. And it was really good! I forgot my husband's meal, but he really enjoyed it! Our food was served quickly, and our server was helpful in explaining menu items.

Their food is delicious! I've never had a bad dish here. I've tried the pollo a la brasa, arrow chaufa, lomo saltado, and the tamal Peruano. Even the sides are fresh and tasty. We love that they're open on Sundays now! If you've never had Peruvian food, this is where to try it!

Good food, good service and about average price point. A friend in town visiting that lives in Peru wanted to go so we took her there.

FIRST TIME HERE! The kid and I went on a lunch date and we yelped for a Peruvian place nearby for something new. My first choice was El Rocoto, but apparently they've been closed down since December 2021. Darn. Found this place as a Plan B. The size of the space is perfect. The wall art is a little random. There is a small shelf behind the counter with some retail food items to bring home. We ordered the ceviche for an appetizer. Price was $16.99. My son enjoyed it. I'm simply not a fan of Peruvian ceviche but although the red onion isn't marinated, it was still a refreshing touch. I'll never understand how sweet potato is supposed to complement raw fish. Never. For entrees, I chose the Bistec a lo probre. The beef was tough and the only knife they give you is a butter knife. The French Fried potatoes were fresh and crisp! Otherwise, not much flavor to this meal. The kid ordered the Chaufa con pollo. He enjoyed it. Again, flavor was absent. The only flavor I could taste was soy sauce. What boggles the mind is that this place doesn't have a beverage menu so had to ask if they had Chicha Morada and Muracaya. They do! I ordered both and found them both to be satisfactory. I asked for Alfajores for dessert, but they were out. Overall, this place is a good find for those seeking nearby Peruvian. I will drive a little farther to find something with a higher standard.

This place was hoppin mid week for a late lunch. Lots of indoor tables for seating. My fam ordered the lunch special- Polla Saltado with Inca colas $9.99 It came beautifully plated- the fries were nice and crispy, chicken was moist, tomatoes were lovely. Flavorful broth, but very salty. The salt was overwhelming, but mixed with the rice, it eased it up. Growing up with one of my good friends whose fam owned a Peruvian restaurant, I'll always remember the one and only awesome green sauce. The green sauce at this restaurant did not disappoint! Loved the amount of spicy heat.

First time coming in for my parents anniversary. Very pleased with my experience here with my family. The food was delicious. We had the chicken, lomo saltado, calamari, hearts and arroz chaufa. The service was good, the staff was very friendly and attentive. The overall feel and energy of the place was good- would definitely come back.

I have been here many times and get to go orders only. They have not disappoint me, when I open the plates the aroma and taste is amazing. It's tuck away in a strip mall. It's one of my favorite restaurants for authentic food.

The Magic Green Sauce. Spicy and fresh- big hit of cilantro and some kind of Peruvian pepper. Awesome.
    Dave C.

Never disappointed. Every time we go back we wonder why it's been so long. Good stuff, fresh and very tasty. Get anything and you'll like it.

Anticuchos. After i attacked it a little.

Ask the Community - Machu Picchu Peruvian Grill

What kind of fish do they use for the ceviche and pescado sudado?

    It's tilapia.

I am part of a group who is trying to find a restaurant willing to do a cooking demonstration in conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month. Is this something Machu Picchu might be interested in doing?

I would certainly suggest you contact the owners. I know them fairly well. This maybe something their interested in doing. I can also notify them today of the inquiry.

I love this place, but my vegan husband wants to know if there is anything he can eat here?

Yes there are several plates which you can request vegetables only. It certainly depends on your husband's preference but I'm certain the chef's their can accommodate your request. Authentic Peruvian is #1 @ Machu Picchu. #EveryWednesday

I had no reservation but I would definitely recommend booking a reservation to secure a spot Parking is very limited, but there is street parking available To start I got the Texas oysters which comes with their seasonal leche de tigre drizzled in olive oil. It was so good I got two orders. Chef Santi was amazing at explaining the ingredients that go into the dish and also went into detail about how they source their oysters For another app I order the skewer de pulpo (octopus), I was blown away! Legitimately the most tender octopus I've ever had in my life. Chef Santi did an amazing job explaining to me how they prep and cook their octopus. I kid you not, very tender 10/10 I was recommended the Tataki Ceviche by one of the chefs. And wow, the way all the flavors blended so well together surprised me. The peanuts really elevated the dish, and execution was beautiful! I sipped up the bowl after I finished. You can tell they really take their time with each dish. For dessert I ordered Terremoto. Very rich with cacao, I don't think I've ever had such a rich chocolate dish before. If you do not like dark chocolate, this dessert is not for you. The ice cream that came with it was so delectable. You can tell by tasting this dish they really really really put their all when it comes to ingredients and execution. I was very impressed with my experience here. If you are ever in San Antonio area and love fresh seafood. Highly, and I mean HIGHLY recommend checking this spot out. They have bar seating, indoor seating, as well as patio seating. Reservations highly encouraged

We went around 2:30 on a weekday so the lunch rush had died down and it was pretty much empty at that point. Waldito greeted us warmly and made us feel like family. Upon arriving, we were welcomed by the Chef Waldito with open arms, amazing energy and you can tell he absolutely LOVES what he does! The restaurant is small but cozy with accolades all over the wall. He explained the menu, the buffet and said he would make anything to order but recommended the buffet. How could you not have a smile on your face when someone talks straight from the heart about making food for his customers?!? We opted for the buffet which was all you can eat and his homemade tea for only $12!! He says he only makes enough money to cover the rent because feeding people was his love language. This touched us! You can get either one or both soups. He served a seafood soup and a chicken noodle soup. The soups was very flavorful and warm. He also serves bread with it as well. The chicken noodle soup was on point! It was flavorful, the noodles were cooked well and wasnt mushy. He will serve you the buffet. It had roasted chicken, then a chicken stew with Caribbean vegetables (plantains, yucca, etc), yucca, black or red beans and either white or rice with gandules. Being that my husband is from the islands, we know flavor! Unfortunately, the beans and the stew had little to no flavor, not even salt. Additionally, the beans were burnt. The arroz con gandules was odd. It lacked flavor and I'm not sure how you can get mushy but underdone rice. The stew tasted like it was just watered down. He graciously made fresh fried Maduros which were great and fried pork as well. The tea that came with it was very good! I'd definitely order a pitcher of it! It had a lot of fruit and floral notes for a tea! Unfortunately, the food missed the mark for us. We couldn't even finish it, let alone even eat half. We were so disappointed because you can tell he absolutely loves and lives off of his love for cooking. I don't know if my husband and I were off on our taste buds that day. I gave this a three star because Chef Waldito was such a pleasure to be around. He made it worth while and I don't want his restaurant to fail. If it were solely on the food, I truly hate to say it but I would have given it a one star. If there's a next time, we might just order off the menu! We do wish him luck and if he or someone that knows him reads this, we hope it will be more helpful than hurtful.
