Sandwiches made to order with fresh meats?! Yes, please! It's so rare to see a sandwich shop actually making their own meats nowadays but this place is setting the bar high. First off, their sandwiches are thickkk! Thick slices of homemade bread, tons of fresh meats, and veggies. This place has been on my hubby's places to try list and we finally checked it off the list! We went with their Turkey Avocado Bacon sandwich. He was so impressed when he saw the worker slicing the turkey fresh onto the sandwich. This sandwich is pretty basic and includes turkey, avocado spread, bacon, lettuce, tomato, & mayo. You can add on more veggies at no charge such as cucumber, onion, oregano, & even hot mustard. The sandwich itself was good but for $13.99 I wish they had fresh avocado or added more avocado spread because I didn't taste any of it. Second, the bread was really soft with a bit of a chewy crust. I was excited to find out that Machete's was opening a location in Aiea! I've been a fan of their town location for years and love their homemade bread! I came here to pick up some sandwiches with my kids. The space was clean and open. Only a few seats to dine in, though. The store was empty when we entered, and we were the only customers inside. When we were at the register, my son picked up a bag of chips, but I told him to put it back. Then the girl at the register asked him if he wanted it, and apparently, he told her yes, so she charged me for it. I didn't even know until later, after I finished ordering, that I noticed what was being charged for a bag of chips. So I quickly told her that we don't want the bag of chips and put it back on the rack. Other than that, the sandwiches were fine. They seemed less thick and full than the other location, but maybe it was just ours that day. read more

New sandwich shop in Aiea! Located in the same parking lot as Mc Donald's, Ice Garden, and Aiea Pancake House. We met the owner Rachel and she was very friendly and helpful. We ordered the Turkey Avocado Bacon and Pastrami. The bread was made very well and all ingredients were delicious! We asked about her style of bread and she told us her husband perfected the recipe since he majored in computer science. Great texture and flavors!! We were passing by and saw this new location in Aiea Shopping Center. Owner Rachel greeted us and was very kind. It was clean and modern with a few tables inside. They're were outdoor seating as well. We had the Avocado, Bacon, and Turkey sandwich and the Pastrami. The bread was thick so I thought it would have been a little too much. But after the first bite, it was soft yet firm enough to hold its shape. The flavors all came together and it was delicious. They have 2 other restaurants on the island, but this one is close to home. We'll be back soon to try other items on the menu. Great experience! read more

So I've seen the other locations while driving and been wanting to try the Aiea location but never get to bc my lunch is at 1 and if hubs picks me up for lunch he doesn't want to get caught in after school traffic when we pau. But today was a holiday so we got to have this long awaited lunch. It was empty so we had the place to ourselves and service was quick. A few reviews said the sandwich was not bread than meat but I think that depends on which sandwich you get bc the menu states how much meat is coming in the varying offers. I got one of the "meanest" sandwiches so it came with a double portion of meat. So I thought the bread to meat ratio was fine. And the bread is homemade and delicious. I chose wheat. Mind you, it's not a Rueben. So no rye bread or thousand island dressing. But good for a pastrami sandwich. I should have added free tomatoes and lettuce maybe tho. The hot mustard was nice on it tho. Hubs got the Machete which is their absolutely biggest sandwich on white bread. It came with so much meat and fixins it was almost difficult to fit on my mouth. Also very tasty. Our bill came out to just over $30 so kind of standard. Will come again given the chance or if in the area. read more

5 Stars - Sandwich Game STRONG So I finally hit up Machetes Mean Sandwiches in Aiea and let me tell you--my tastebuds are still writing thank-you notes. I ordered The Machete and it came out looking like a deli meat skyscraper. Turkey, ham, salami, pastrami, cheddar, provolone, lettuce, onions, tomato, oregano, vinaigrette--this thing was stacked like it had something to prove. And it proved it. Deliciously. The bread was pillowy soft, the meat was packed with flavor, and the whole thing had me cheesin' like it was prom night. But the real MVP: Jasmine. Kind, efficient, and easy on the eyes. She made the whole experience even better. If sandwiches had a customer service queen, it's her. Also, big ups to the green counter--felt like I was about to get hit with something fresh and vibrant. I'm so excited that this location is now closer to central Oahu! I ordered takeout via their online ordering and the order was ready at just about the expected time- very easy and convenient. If you go at lunch time I recommend parking on the lower level and taking the escalator up- it was very busy! The sandwiches do not disappoint. The white bread is so pillowy soft and all sandwiches were delicious. We got the Machete- very heavy and full of toppings! The Turkey, Avocado and Bacon, and the Turkey Salami. Very filling! Average sandwiches here. To be honest, I enjoyed the turkey sandwich at Arby's more than here -- especially their bread. Machete's Aiea sandwiches are 60% bread, 30% meat, and 10% whatever else. Speaking of else, there's no yellow mustard to be found here and the "hot mustard" that was allegedly added to my sandwich had zero flavor. They also stacked all the meats into the middle of the bread rather than neatly arranging it to have equally enjoyable bites which left me with purely-bread bites. It's difficult for me to say this, but you'd get better value at Subway. They need to work on the supporting ingredient ratios and the construction of a "mean" sandwich. read more

Love the sandwiches...best bread on the island. What irritates me is that the last couple of times I've gone (to the Aiea and to the one on Kalakaua) no one was there...even though I double checked their hours to make sure they were supposed to be open. My time is more valuable than any sandwich, no matter how good. read more

Machete's is located where Rabbit Rabbit Tea used to be; between Ice Garden and Aiea Pancake House. Machete's was clean and has a few indoor 2-seater tables for eating on location. I was greeted with an employee who kindly told me that the turkey bacon was the most popular. Tuna was sold out (must be good!). I was drawn to the Italian sandwich so I ordered that with all the standard fixings. Who knew oregano would change the sandwich game!? Really elevated the flavors for me! The sandwich itself was nearly 3 inches thick and there was definitely no skimping out on ingredients here. The bread had a fresh softness to it without falling apart. I don't usually like much mayo but the mayo here tasted homemade (and if it isn't, I'm gonna need the brand because wow lol). It was creamy without being overwhelming. Overall, the sandwich itself was very filling and satisfying for me. I would order the Italian again AND I look forward to trying the others as well. read more

Sign on the door says waiting for bread and will open between 11-11:20. Well it's 11:20 and the guy inside says they're not open. I'm surprised this location survives. Made an online order...get to their Aiea location and there's a sign on the door saying they are closed for repairs. Im thinking why tf did yall take my money if yall know yall was gonna be closed!?? Called their other locations to see if I can get my order transferred even though it's an inconvenience and additional 20-30 minute drive there and back and no answer from either location. Next day I wasted my gas for a second time and went back to the location and the signs still on the door "closed for repairs". I called the 808-200-0626 number before driving back because no one answered and no one reached out about the order being placed. I was thinking it was possible that no one answering the phone because they were busy. These people think all they gotta do is make sandwiches. Never mind being punctual and communicating with your customers. SMH Paid $14.65 and got nothing in return. Awesome! read more

If you like a lot of starch/bread, this is the place for you. I don't really care for bready sandwiches. Don't get me wrong, the sandwiches have lots of fillings and were tasty, I just prefer thinner slices of bread.
