She'd spot me and give me a smile and I'd get to the head of the line and she'd chat a little -- as the bustling throng of hungry patrons waited eagerly behind me in line, desperate to place their order -- and she would ask me how my day was. If people got too impatient or fidgety while she was telling me about what was new with her she'd bark a firm command at them them to chill - and then, light a light switch - finish whatever she was saying to me in a friendly tone. She was sort of Basil Fawlty meets the Soup Nazi, but with the frame and accent of a fiery Latina. I miss her.
