Actually, when dinner time came around, we set out to go to Lou Malnati's for pizza. Their online page claimed that the Chandler location offered a sit-down menu. We got there only to be told that they only did takeout. Okay, time to pivot. We looked around the shopping center, and when our son-in-law spotted Macayo's, he said we should go there. He had dined in one of their other locations some years back and had liked the food. So...Macayo's it is. We got there right after they opened for dinner (shortly after 4 p.m.) and were seated immediately. At first, we said we would take a booth, but realized that a large table would be better. Once we were seated and given menus, our server brought us chips and salsa. As I looked at the menu, I was very pleased to see that they had chile rellenos. Hand-dipped rellenos consist of: "Two Anaheim chiles filled with Jack cheese, battered & hand-dipped, topped with choice of fire-roasted Tomatillo or zesty relleno sauce, served with rice & refried beans". At the server's suggestion I put green sauce on one and red sauce on the other. These rellenos were quite good---tasty and filling My husband ordered the "Sonoran Enchilada Trio" which consists of: "Shredded beef enchilada topped with fire-roasted Tomatillo sauce, shredded chicken enchilada topped with our famous Baja sauce, mixed cheese enchilada topped with red enchilada sauce served with rice and black beans." Quite filling and very tasty. As for our grandsons and their Dad, one grandson got the "Seasonal fish tacos" which consist of "Two tacos served on warm corn tortillas with grilled or lightly battered fish topped with Pico de Gallo & shredded cabbage tossed in chipotle crema". These tacos had a generous amount of filling, and my grandson really liked them. Our second grandson and his Dad both had the chicken enchiladas, which were served with rice and refried beans. Our third grandson got a burrito (can't remember which kind), which he really liked. The salsa did have some kick, but it was rather watery. That didn't stop us from eating it. Service was great, and the ambiance says "Mexican restaurant" very clearly. All in all, we were glad we gave it a try. read more

Hubby & I had dinner here last night. When we walked in no one was at the host station. We waited since there was not a sign. One of the servers came over & seated us. He said he would get the bartender. We sat on the bar side. It took a few minutes then our server came to the table. She wasn't friendly & didn't have a welcoming attitude. Hubby got his favorite beer & I got a water & a red sangria. The beer was ice cold & the sangria was good. I had to ask three times to get my water. We liked the chips & salsa. Hubby ordered the tamale plate. I got the Mini Chimichangas. Hubby said the tamales were okay. They were bland & the sauce totally lacked flavor. My chimichangas were okay. Unfortunately, all the food on my plate was cold. The chimichangas, rice & beans. We wanted to love this place, but no reason for us to come back. read more

First of all what about walking in and being greeted with a smile. That wouldn't cost an employee much I'd think. After all, I'm here to spend cash money dollars. I waited at the bar for 5 minutes, no one was around. No acknowledgement. Be right with you. Nope nada. Ambiance: this place has absolutely no vibes (ZERO) . You might as well microwave some frozen enchiladas and save your money. I go out for the vibes. if I want quiet meditation I'll go to a mausoleum. Pray for the dead ya know. But this place is a joke. The place just needs to go full BK and leave this space to people that want to make good food and treat you right. Horizon Hospitality (purchased Macayos) and they've done a bang up job ruining this restaurant built and founded by the Johnson family who still run and own Depot Cantina location in Tempe and Woodys location on central. Nothing worse than trying to support a local business by wanting to spend some money and they let it walk out the door. Hey Horizon send one of your corporate big stuffed suits to this place and bring a pen and paper to write down all the shit you find wrong with this place! The hell with your excel spreadsheet focusing on year of year losses and trying to figure out how to carve out some more savings for profits. Pass on this place. If I could give zero stars I would. We arrived at about 7:40, there weren't many people there on a Friday evening, that should have been a sign...We were hungry and wanted Mexican food so we stayed. A guy took us to a booth, he barely said two words. The waitress was nice and took our orders right away, within ten minutes or less, our food arrived. Although we were famished we were surprised that it was ready so fast...Another sign. It tasted like something out of the frozen section of a grocery store. A waste of time and money. Filiberto's would have obviously been a better choice. Will never give our business to this restaurant again. This chain has changed and not for the better. read more

THE STAFF IN THE KITCHEN ARE CROSS CONTAMINATING FOOD AND THE MANAGER AND AT LEAST ONE OF THE SERVERS ARE AWARE. YOU ARE ORDERING FOOD POISONING ON A PLATE. Went to this location on May 5th of 2026. Hyped this restaurant up to my friend, the waitress immediately killed the vibe by ignoring us for the first 5-10 minutes. She walked past multiple times and did not even acknowledge that we were sat in her section. When the waitress finally walks over to our table, she is rushing us to order drinks. My friend had questions about the margaritas and the waitress seemed almost impatient. We chalked it up to her having a bad day and continued talking to each other. We had to get the attention of the waitress to put an order in for food. I personally ordered the cheese crisp, but my friend is Pescatarian. She does not eat anything, but fish. My friend ordered the enchiladas and asked for shrimp to be inside of them. Imagine her surprise when she cuts into the last bite of the SHRIMP enchilada and a piece of chicken pops out. She was going to let it go until she cut into another piece and found more chicken. I asked the waitress to come over, because she is not even acknowledging us at this point, I kindly let her know that there is chicken in her shrimp enchilada and the waitress immediately gets flustered and says, "yeah, that happens sometimes." I was surprised at the response and she must have seen it. She then seemed like we were inconveniencing her and said she would get the manager. The manager comes out stands on the opposite side of the wall from the table my friend and I are sitting at and in the most unconcerned tone says, "So, what's the problem?" I stopped and asked him for his name, because as a manager, do not come to my table to solve a problem with your restaurant as if I'm the problem. He said his name was Carlos, and then again said, "So, what's the problem?" I let him know what my friend had ordered and that a different meat had been mixed in. He said and I quote, " Oh, that's it." I let him know that that was an inappropriate response to what was just said and his way of fixing it was by letting us know he could void out the enchiladas, then when we were upset about how he handled that he got irritated and said he would void out everything we ordered. He immediately walked away after that. DO NOT EAT HERE, IF SHRIMP AND CHICKEN ARE IN THE SAME SERVING CONTAINERS THERE IS CROSS CONTAMINATION OF FOOD HERE. I will be contacting the state about this and the Better Business Bureau. read more

I went in and ordered Shrimp enchiladas half way thru my meal I found 2 chunks of chicken in my food we told the waitress she said she would get the manager. Manager came out and did not walk up to our table he stood behind a low wall leaned on it he did not make eye contact with us. The first thing he said was "what's the problem with you guys" while looking down at his tablet. My friend proceeded to explain what happened. He then looked up for the first time and said "is that it" we said yes that is cross contamination going on in your kitchen and u don't think asking if that's is a an appropriate way to deal with a customer. He then cut my genesis sentence and butted in tabs said "I'll just take it off the bill" we said that's not the point we are trying g to address you obviously have some issues in the kitchen. I'm not one to write negative reviews. Terrible service. Rude and inattentive waiter. The waiter was very dismissive from the start of our meal. My food was incorrect, but before I could say anything- he walked away. So I just ate the food anyways ( it was one entree, two sides but was only given one side) He wasn't around, and didn't check in once. I understand he could've been busy, but I didn't even see him around the restaurant. However, when he came back to charge us out- I kindly explained, I was missing a side and if that could be taken off and I'd be more than happy to pay for what I received. He was very rude, made remarks under his breath, and stormed off. He did, however, comp my meal- so thanks for that. But the attitude and inattentiveness ruined it for me. At least the food was good. Tacos, margaritas or beer with Super service. Had a great experience! The food was delicious, and the margaritas were spot on perfectly made and super refreshing. What really made the visit stand out was the amazing service from Alexa and Carlos. They greet you right away, upbeat and give their customers a warm welcome. Alexa is not only an awesome bartender but also a fantastic server. Super friendly, quick, and attentive without ever being overbearing. Be careful with this location! Went in for dinner tonight only because I was gifted a gift card, otherwise I wouldn't eat here. Our server, Tyler C, was super friendly, helpful and professional. We had an issue with the gift card and after calling the gift card company, they advised that it was an issue with the restaurant not the gift card. Tyler tried to help the best he could and did explain that this restaurant does have a hard time with gift cards. I was then greeted unexpectedly by the manager, Carlos who was extremely rude and such an ignorant person. He not only did not help with the gift card but was demanding we pay with another form of payment. While on the phone with the gift card company who were trying to find out what was going on, Carlos came by again and stated he spoke to his general manager "Jessica" and stated we needed to pay with another form of payment now. Super sketchy at this point. Carlos not only demanded very rudely a payment but insinuated we couldn't pay for our $50 meal. Ridiculous. Our monthly Red Hat ladies luncheon was held at Macayos last Friday. There were 24 of us and Francisco did an outstanding job of putting together one long table. It was a a great dining experience. Classic Mexican place in the Valley that still delivers. The salsa is close to true Mexican-not very chunky and spicy...but not so hot you can't eat more than 2 bites. I ordered the veggie burro from the lunch menu and it was tasty. I took half of it home since I got stuffed on the chips and salsa before it arrived. After spending the morning hunting for Easter eggs with the little one we were starving. He wanted Mexican & my guy suggested we go to Macayo's Mexican Food as he enjoys there food. While he normally goes to the Tempe location, the Chandler location was on the way home we decided to try this location. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by friendly staff & were seated immediately & brought out some yummy chips & salsa. It was happy hour so I decided to have a drink. They had margarita flights for $10 don't threaten me with a good time. I had the prickly pear, guava, mango, & passion fruit. While they were all delicious in flavor the alcohol was definitely nonexistent. I had the veggie fajitas - Sliced squash, zucchini & carrots on a sizzling skillet with fajita vegetables, served with sour cream, guacamole, Pico de Gallo, refried beans & warm flour tortillas. It was delicious & I had enough to take home & have for dinner. He had the chicken poblano - Lightly breaded Poblano chile stuffed with shredded chicken, served with our famous Baja sauce, red enchilada sauce, Jack cheese, tomatoes, rice and refried bean. He enjoyed his food although the chicken was a little bland & also had leftovers for dinner. The tiny human had a Bean and cheese burrito with french fries. He finished his burrito so in my book that was a win. lol While the food & service were both enjoyable the dinning experience was not. It was an icebox with n there as they suddenly began blasting the AC. It was so cold my son was freezing. We couldn't even enjoy our food because it was so cold. We asked several times for them to turn the air down by talking to 3 different staff members & even the manager on duty. We ended up taking our food to go. It sucks because I definitely wanted to stay for another drink & desert. I don't think we will be back at this location but we will definitely stick with the Tempe location. read more

This Macayo's lived up to expectations and provided a great experience. 5 stars! This location is very cute, with an open and more modern feel than others I've been too. (It makes sense as it's pretty new, relative to other locations). Plenty of easy parking too! We came for mini chimis and guac, and they did not disappoint. Mini chimis are the #1 reason I ever go to Macayo's. You should try them! The hostess was really friendly and helped when I was having trouble finding my friend, as she was sitting in a booth that was a bit hidden. Her awareness of my needs and which tables were waiting on someone was great! Our waiter was amazing. He was friendly, energetic, and on top of everything without ever being intrusive. It was really impressive to watch him manage all his tables. If you're feeling like some Macayo's, this is a great location. read more

We were a group of 5 seniors. When I arrived with my wife and a friend our other couple were already seated. there was no hostess and no sign stating "Please Wait to be Seated". We went to our friends table and sat down. As soon as we were seated a male member of the waitstaff came to the table and complained that we should not have seated ourselves, there were others that had been waiting for 20 minutes. Half of the tables were not being used. The waitress came to our table and took our order. She did not check to see if we had proper place settings, two of us had no silverware, we had to take some from the empty table next to us. When she brought out our food, we all found that the bean's and rice were cold, not room temp.... cold ... like recently like being taken out of the refrigerator. This was my first time at Macayo's and the food was pretty good. So good I didn't even take a picture of my food prior to eating it all. That means I have to go back! My table ordered the veggie enchiladas, carnita enchiladas and veggie fajitas which were great portions. The meat for my carnita enchiladas could have been a little softer and shredded more, and not as tough but overall good flavor. We went around 5:30pm on a Sunday which was a great time to go because it started to get packed around 6pm/6:30pm for Sunday dinner. read more
