It was such a great find we stopped by for lunch on the drive back as well. The food is great. And cheap. I live in LA and I wish we could transport this place to our fine city. They use high-quality ingredients and all white meat chicken in their dishes. And they have a full bar. I have a feeling that things get crazy at this place at night. We got to watch Spanish-language bikini contests on Telemundo during our lunches as an added bonus. La Serenata doesn't look like much, and it is in a pretty sketchy-looking complex, but you will be glad you came.

The folks are always polite and patient with this Gringo. They always seem to include 2 choices for salsa in every order. The green salsa is for me, it has an amazing smooth avocado and tomatillo flavor with a decent level of heat for me. The red offering of salsa is pure fire for me and a bit much, but I know several guys that enjoy it. I'm not sure of their hours on Sunday. I almost always get the pork (asada isn't bad either) whether it is in a Gigantic burrito or in the tacos. Either way there is plenty to go around. They're very generous with the portions on everything I've gotten and seen . The burrito is huge here and requires both hands.

Ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast with one pancake for $19. When the food came I was genuinely shocked, the chicken fried steak was a ultra processed hockey puck with a weird hard layer instead of normal breading. Everything else aside from the chicken fried steak ñ was decent and the quality you'd expect from a small cafe on the side of a highway. 3/5 stars
