There were definitely a lot of locals, but they spoke English pretty well. All the workers here also were able to communicate pretty easily in English so that was good. The bathrooms are located upstairs and I think when it gets more busy they actually open the upstairs up for people to sit. This is your typical bar... They mark your paper with all the drinks you order then you pay at the end of the night before you leave.

Also, I went on a Saturday at about 7.30-8pm and stayed till about 10.30pm. When I went, it was crowded but I was still able to find a table - the crowd seem to start at about 8.30pm or so. There is one big projector screen in the back that would be nice to watch sporting events, but I don't think it would be sufficient for everyone in the restaurant to just watch from that screen. Fortunately, they were warm, welcoming and spoke solid English. Bells was the main bartender that night and incredibly helpful all around - quickly finding the correct TV channel so I could watch the game, accurately describing their craft beers to help me decide which to order and also offering a few suggestions on places to explore during my Rio trip. Don't even do the one that comes with sides because rice, French fries, and egg farofa is gonna be too much food. And besides, you don't even know what farofa is. I could tell you that it's a type of meal made from toasted cassava, but you don't know what that is either. (It's okay. We're gonna get through this.) I'm glad my misconception was corrected, because Bar do David was 101% worth the trip - it *doesn't* have a view, but we did have one of the best meals of our trip. Our favorite was the ribs with pineapple salsa, which were perfectly charred and fell off the bone. We also had a completely beautiful seafood salad and some croquettes with carne seca, plus a couple very tasty drinks. I can't recommend it enough!
