Cool spot for dinner in Rio near Copacabana beach. Tapas menu is bit confusing at first as the server brings out plates of food that is not mentioned in the menu but each plate/item is 9R. The filet mignon cubes and chicken bacon skewers were very good. Got the pork leg hot hole which was good as well, quite small though. Tapas were 50/50, liked some, didn't like the rest. Somewhat frustrating as we went early and took a while for the tapas to come out initially but as more people came, it was faster. Red wine sangria was good, was very light and refreshing, could barely taste the wine. Lots of fruits. There's about 4 glasses for each person. Overall, good place to visit and good ambiance. It is somewhat expensive and didn't really feel that full afterwards either (yes I'm aware it's a tapas place).

Looking for dinner at 11:30pm in most cities would've spelled disaster. But not in Rio! Thanks to Yelp, its filters and reviewers, we totally scored. Sorry, no menu pics as the lighting was too dim and flash on laminated page protectors does not work! ATMOSPHERE: The intimate space looked like an eatery straight out of NYC. Outdoor seats, dimly lit interior, small bar, background music. Perfect. MENU: Mixed genre of apps, salads, meats, poultry, seafood, desserts. FOOD: Verdaguer - $9. The tiniest Le Creuset pot came out, filled to the brim with a searing hot stew of lentils, carrots and smoked sausage that stayed warm till the very end. A few slices of crostini accompanied. The smoky and savory flavors were outstanding! Montaner - $8. An omelette shaped like a pancake was stuffed with diced potatoes, cheese and other savory seasonings, with a small green salad to the side. Very tasty. Casa Batló - $14. A mound of couscous came topped with flavorful strips of caramelized and savory chicken, similar to a teriyaki chicken dish. Some parts of the chicken were a little tough but not enough to ruin the dish. SERVICE: Our server was friendly and food delivery was quick. TIP: Try to pay with cash. My credit card got compromised while in Rio and I'm not sure where it happened, so this tip appears on all my reviews where I paid with it. OVERALL: Open late until 2am, affordable, good food.

I have no idea what the significance is of this large phallus, tucked in between bottles above the bar.

Based on reviews, we decided to go to El Born for a light dinner. We started with the strawberry caipirinhas which were average. We told the waiter we would have tapas. The first tapas came before we ordered our drinks. Then, we waited. It was early when we arrived (1800), so we were patient. We left at 1930, having been served five tapas (the shrimp that came upon arrival, octopus, ham and cheese on bread, sausage on bread, and a risotto with shrimp). The two selections on a slice of French bread were nothing special. At least octopus isn't something I have in my pantry at home. We left to get gelato. If you want tapas, this might be a good place later at night. If you want to be sure you get fed, be sure to order a couple of appetizers in case they don't feel like serving you.

    Caipirinhas! Good for the soul!

This was my fist dinner in Brazil and it was unforgettable. I went there around happy hour and the bar manager spoke a bit of english. He was super friendly and his mixology talents where very good. All the bartenders where very friendly and we shared stories about bars in Brazil and US. Great conversations considering the language barrier. I ordered some drinks, appetizers, drinks, food, and more drinks and everything was delicious! Caipirinha me please! So delicious. After trying the food here I now get it Brazil. I now get why everyone is so friendly. It's the great food, liquor, music, and the women. Great mixologist skils, nice vibe, and great food! What else can you ask for? Next time I'm in Rio I will defintely return here.

THE best Bloody Mary's in all of Zona Sul!!!!

The place is pretty spacious and have a lot of sitting in a balcony style at the outer bother of the restaurant that they provide stools at the side walk. The place is very busy at night so some wait should be expected but we came at a Sunday night and it was just a 5 to 10 minutes wait nothing too crazy. Once we sat down the same old, not enough menus for the people on the table story. they gave all 3 of us 1 menu and the waiter came super fast to get drink orders.... I Never been here so I did not know what to order and just with one menu was extremely hard to get the orders so we asked him to come back in a bit and bring us more menus. He did the menus but once we were ready it took a long while to have him actually take the orders, as a matter of fact we just asked someone else for our food, but the guy was a buster lol so he had to cll the waiter who came a long time later and that when we realized that we still had not had our orders in the system yet, a mess really. Finally we got our drink orders in and we wee happy. I was planing on getting an adult beverage but it all took so long and the place has no A/C so I got super warm and decided to get a water instead, so here is a prime example that bad service caused me to spend less as a result and the worse was that is was just cause I was too hot and didn't have a proper menu count and a waiter portly taking orders to expedite the drinks. Here the Brazilian people make a salary and the service is automatically charged on the bill, here in this country is notoriously know for BAD SERVICE as regardless of the quality of service they will make the same amount of money so the wait staff could not care less. A interesting thing and very smart that I noticed here was the fact that they have some waiters walking around with trays of shots, or trays of small appetizers, they go from table to table to up- sell the items, this was genius cause if I am not intentionally looking for an appetizer and now it is so close and accessible I will probably get one, and that Is exactly what happened to us. I ordered a couple of appetizers, these people are geniuses. EMPADA DE CARNE SECA COM CATUPIRY- to me this was a disaster, it was super salty and incredibly odd, I based on this little appetizer would never eat carne sea again. BOLINHO DE CAMARAO COM CATUPIRY- this one was much better than the fist one I mentioned but still I was not very happy with the flavor. it did taste like the eat of the city had taken a toll on the flavor of this appetizer. LARGE PIZZA AMATRICIANA- we got the large, but if you are like me from America I must tell you that the large here is not the same as a large out there in the US. this large was finished by 3 people and with very little effort. however I must say that again this pizza just as the appetizers was a disappointment to me, the only positive I can say here on this pizza is the fact that I loved the oregano taste in it. this was a thin crust pizza with bacon in cubes, the cubes were too cooked and they felt almost like rubber, they supposedly had onions added to the pizza, I could not find not one onion on this pizza, this pizza was blend very blend. Over all in my opinion, I am not sure why this place is so busy. the service is nothing special, there is no wifi, they do not know how to count to give a proper amount of menus. the place has no A/C and the food is at best mediocre. I will not be back.

The ambiance is very upscale, being in a palace, it makes sense (Copacabana Palace), with rich red carpeted floors, a piano player belting out light background music, pristine white cloths on all the tables, and giant windows out to the hotel grounds. (They are currently closed for renovations, so your experience may differ from ours in the case of how the restaurant looks.) The moment we stepped through the door, we were treated like royalty by all the staff, which seems to be the norm based on other reviews. We were early for our reservation so sat in the bar area and ordered a few drinks. Our drinks came super quickly, and the bartender brought out a small tray of pretzels, meats, and peppers for a little complimentary snack. Even those small items were high end and tasty! We were seated right at our reservation time, and the experience began. We were a group of three, and we all chose to do the eleven course tasting menu. And they didn't stop at eleven! It was honestly hard to tell what was an official "Course" of the night or just a little extra addition. No complaints as to the quantity or quality, though. Our server brought out a small shot of sweet liqueur to start the meal. I wasn't sure what flavor they said it was, but it was tasty and definitely cleared our palates for some great food to come. The first course was a charcuterie setting with thin bread sticks (that looked like a work of art in a vase), some dried meats, croissant style breads, and chips to eat with the meats as well. Next, four items came out as just a taste from the chef (not included in the eleven courses!) They were all plated gorgeously and each was almost a single bite. There was a sushi piece, a cracker piece, a tart with a hazelnut on top, and a black ravioli style tartare. After the shock of that amazing show, our next course came and it was just as impressive. It was a "pizza" course, but so elevated. A nice little few-bite sized pastry with all the flavors of pizza, surprisingly. So delish. Some more bread came next, but with a delicious prosciutto sauce to spread on it, as well as some of the creamiest butter I have ever tasted. We were getting pretty full at this point, but the food kept coming! Our next plate looked like a garden, but was a soup! It came in a glass vase looking vessel with lots of greenery inside and a pat of green butter on top. The server poured a steaming hot liquid component over the top of the bowl, and it all melded together to make a scrumptious, fresh tasting soup! We're about half way done here, so stick with me. Our next bite was a slice of red prawn escabeche with a super tasty Russian salad dressing below. A small plate that was deceiving, because it was very hearty. And then the "main" sort of courses came out. First was the Mediterranean Tuna, which was braided in with some radish, a green foam, and other fresh veggies that complemented the tuna very well. The other more substantial course was a dry aged strip steak with a bell pepper and tomato gastrique that was out of this world. This might sound like a LOT of food, but each course was a small bite so you actually didn't get too full by the end. It does take a long time for the full experience to play out (about 2 to 3 hours), and we were getting quite tired since our reservation was later in the evening. We thought we were done after the final course, but then desserts started rolling out! The "pre-dessert" was a deconstructed tiramisu. It was a small ball of hazelnut ice cream with little cake bits all over it and a gold chocolate coin on top. Then came an "agrumi" course, which was more to cleanse the senses. It was a bowl of citrus fruits and a smoking dry ice wafting clouds of the scent around the table. Very cool! After our senses were cleansed, another dessert course came out, and it was a whole trolley of pettit fours that you could choose from. We each selected a few and they were all decadent and divine. And lastly, there was a final dessert of gelato, which came in a giant mound in a huge bowl. You just let the server know how many scoops you wanted (we were now getting pretty full so just had a bit each!) It was supremely creamy and delightful and actually the perfect end to the meal. When they open back up, definitely try them out, if you want a first-class dining experience that will fully immerse you in the chef's vision and amazing food!
