The restaurant is located in Urca, a quiet, peaceful neighborhood with a charming vibe. The space itself is small, and the dining area is upstairs with a lovely view. The staff was super friendly and helpful--probably tied for the best service we had during the whole trip. As for the Camarão na Moranga--it was absolutely delicious and did not disappoint! The portion was huge--way too much food for just the two of us. Honestly, this dish could easily serve 3 to 4 people. We left completely stuffed. The one of the dishes of the day was herbed rice with pulled duck. It was quite tasty, a bit salty but flavorful. We also tried the steak tartare sandwich which came open- faced on a slice of hearty wheat bread covered in sour cream and piled high with minced meat and a cracked egg. Be forewarned that this is raw meat and a raw egg. However with the freshest ingredients this can be quite tasty. Here, they've done steak tartare right. Yet another reason to be impressed by this small unassuming German restaurant.

This restaurant is tourist friendly as they have a menu in English for those who cannot read Portuguese. Our waiter came and took our drink orders. We asked about the special that night and the price. The waiter did not know so he left to ask. He eventually returned with our drinks and still did not know the about the special. Fast forward fifteen minutes and finally returns with the details. We ordered the special, rabbit with a savory sauce topped with mashed potatoes, and heart of palm spaghetti with shrimp. A table opened up inside so we were seated inside by the manager (whom happened to speak English). The decor of the restaurant is similar to the hipster style of the United States. The ambiance is relaxed. But maybe a little too relaxed as it took an additional hour for our food to arrive. We had finished our first drinks and ordered another round since the food was taking so long. There was no shortage of waiters so I assume there was an issue in the kitchen. The traditional caipirinha was strong but tasty, and one of the house mixed wine and fruit drinks was very good. Finally our food arrives, and it looks wonderful. Both meals tasted delicious with well portioned sizes. The food was delicious enough for us to forgive most of the slow slow service. Overall, we had a good experience and will come back despite the bad service. I definitely recommend this place to taste some of the finer Brazilian cuisine, but be prepared to spend at least 2+ hours there.

I had seen it on another table, and it looked great, so I had that, while one of my friends had a sort of salad with lentils and seafood (and the rest did without a starter). I have to say, my octopus was a bit lacking in flavour; even a bit more salt would have helped it out a bit, but it looked great and the texture of the octopus was excellent. For our mains, I had a dish of rice with duck (duck is one of those things I almost always order when I see it on a menu), while one friend had lamb ribs with polenta. Again, my dish was a bit lacking in flavour and it was actually a bit dry. When it came to desserts, our Carioca friends told us that they cannot go to this place without having dessert, and one in particular they order just about every time they visit. I took that as a good sign, so I ordered one of my favourites, a lime quindim with coconut ice cream. Happily for me, this was deserving of the praise our friends bestowed on it, and the one that they ordered, a sort of tres leites cake, was even better. All in all, given the pricing I cannot give it more than three stars, though if you went for just cocktails and dessert it might deserve four.
