I've never posted a Yelp review before, but Mac is so horrifyingly bad that I feel like people need to be warned. DO NOT RENT FROM MAC. They are terrible about maintenance requests and have THE WORST customer service. The buzzer system has been broken in our building since August. I put in a work order request and was told it would be fixed in 24-48 hours. Hah, no. After it wasn't fixed in about a week, I called again and was told that they need to contract with an outside vender and would call me back with more details. I never got a call back so I called again in another week, was told the same thing. This went out for about two months until I reached Maria, who admitted that the service request was "stale" and that she would find out what the deal was and get back to me. She actually called me back and told me that apparently, the delay was that they were waiting for multiple bids from different vendors so that they could pick one, but they hadn't gotten enough bids yet. Probably because nobody wants to work with a company as unprofessional as Mac??? Fast forward few weeks, we get an email saying that they have a vendor and the buzzer will be installed, but they had a problem connecting the phone line. The email said that it would be done in the next week or so. It's been a month since we got that email. I just called Mac again and the guy who picked up gave me the same line about outside vendor issues, then transferred me to a voicemail box without telling me who he was transferring me to, clearly just looking to get rid of me. Having something broken for THREE AND A HALF MONTHS definitely violates our tenant rights, which state that a landlord must resolve "minor" fixes within 14 days or the tenants can deduct from rent. Of course nobody does that to Mac because we're all students who are too busy to deal with it and are renting our first apartments and don't know better. Leaving this review in the hopes that Mac will actually address this, since they seem to refuse to give any answers over their designated work order hotline. I'm also including a picture of the time our bathroom ceiling caved in last year and it took them a week to fix. Because Mac being terrible is definitely a recurring thing. read more

Mac Properties - Chicago Apartments - Our bathroom last year after we had a persistent leak in the ceiling that Mac refused to come fix for days. This happened. - Apartments Near Me - Chicago, Illinois

Overall I have very much enjoyed my stay at the Algonquin. I'd like to see improvements to the fitness center & the laundry center, but Mac keeps up the property pretty nicely. I love the layout of my one-bedroom. It may not see like much to some, but to me it's huge & I am smitten with it. The views are gorgeous. Love the huge windows, though I have experienced some leaks in the past. We paid extra to get a unit on the 13th floor. I still recall the day my boyfriend & I saw the model. I thought it was way too nice for us! Luckily it was within our budget. I really hope to renew our lease. The staff is great & the maintenance team is very polite & attentive. It's nice to know they have our backs. read more

Ruth is wonderful! Very prompt and informed. Came out personally to help me find the laundry room in my building and provided me with an additional laundry card! Really grateful for the service with Mac Properties! Truly loving this place! read more

SAVE YOUR SANITY & MONEY from this terrible, scary MAC association. (MAPLE COURTS) Hyde Park is a beautiful up and coming place, but don't let that fool you. My friend moved here with her daughter about 4 months ago and had the most terrible experience one could ever have. My friends daughter suffered insect bites on her face and extremities that caused many hospital and doctor visits due to the fact that my friend did not know where they were coming from, until she found out the unit was infected with BED BUGS, to make things more stressful to her, the inspectors tried to blame her child and say that she brought them from school. She immediately bought out her lease and unfortunately had to throw away her new furniture and other personal items. She asked other people around the building if they've ever experienced this issue in their unit and two people have responded YES! Not only is this building pretty gross and unsanitary, you also have a group of men and women that constantly stand in front of the building drinking and smoking causing loud unsafe chaos; to make matters worse, after they are done they leave bottles and trash all around the building. (Pictures Below) Neighbors around her have told her that the building has gotten much worse than what it was. Most people cannot wait to leave actually. It is not a family friendly nor clean environment, saves yourselves the headache and lost of money. The "MAC" team also is little to no help, they worry more about receiving their monthly rent VS caring for the actual tenant. STAY AWAY from MAC properties esp. MAPLE COURT. read more

DO NOT RENT HERE, I REPEAT DO NOT HERE. If you want to pay your rent early, guess what you can't. They love to tack on fees, your packages can and will be stolen at least once, your security doors won't work and those cameras probably won't either (confirmed by management). You can find something better. They're over priced due to their overhead. STAY CLEAR! read more

I've had a mixed experience with Mac. This is a review for the property at 5417 S. Elllis Ave. Negatives: I moved here in September of 2020 and about a month after I moved in, my bike was stolen from a bike rack in the front yard. I called the management office thinking they might have footage of the thief as there is a camera facing the front of the building. But they said they don't have any surveillance cameras there, meaning that camera is off and just for show. Great. The worst part about this was I had my bike on the back porch outside my window and they told me to move it to the front. This really set the tone for my stay here. I also noticed random parts missing on other bikes in the front as well like missing wheels. This seems to be an ongoing issue. My next complaint is the AWFUL sound insulation. My upstairs neighbor is not a considrate person and can be really loud at times, but sometimes even when she is doing things that don't make much noise I can hear it vividly. Depending on where you are in the apartment, conversations can be heard from upstairs like they are in your living room, even when people seem to be speaking at a normal level. This is alarming because it means that if you're having a personal conversation or talking about sensitive information, your neighbors may be able to hear it. It's also really easy to hear people in the stairwell from across the apartment. In general, if you move here be prepared to hear every footstep and phone call that happens above you or in the stairway. There was a gas leak in my apartment earlier this year which I called the management office for. They came relatively quickly, which I appreciated. However, all the guys did was put some kind of caulking on the gas pipe and left. I don't know much about pipes so I figured that was fine until I used the oven and smelled heavy gasoline throughout my kitchen and adjacent hallway. I started panicking and opened all the windows. I ended up calling the fire department, who told me that the pipe should've been replaced and shut the valve off completely to stop the leak. This was alarming as if I would've left it, who knows what could've happened! I called Mac a couple days later and they sent someone out to replace the pipe. The second guy was actually good and told me he didn't understand why the first guys had left it the way they had. This experience made me nervous because if this is happening in my apartment, who knows if there's other gas leaks in the building getting the caulk treatment? There are only two washers and dryers for both this building and the one next to it, and one washer is nearly ALWAYS broken/flooded!! Meaning that there is only one washer for about 12 apartments worth of people to use. Meaning either get into the laundry room early, or possibly miss an opportunity to wash all of your clothes. There is only radiator heat in this building and it isn't consistent in every room. The larger room was uncomfortably cold so I moved into the smaller one, which gets summer heat levels of hotness in the winter. And the radiators are so loud! Makes it hard to concentrate or sleep sometimes depending on how loud they're banging. It also sometimes makes it sound like there is someone in your apartment as you may randomly hear bangs and thuds in other rooms. This is uncomfortable for me. They are raising the rent during covid! I was considering renewing my lease but the issue with the sound insulation has become too much for me and with that considered, the higher price is definitely not worth it. Especially because they are not willing to work with you on the price which drastically differs depending on the lease-term you choose, making this apartment (which is currently $1430) cost somewhere between $1500-$1900 (with a lower price if you stay longer). This does not seem considerate to me. Positives: The people at the management office are always professional on the phone and service requests are usually handled pretty quickly. The apartment looks really nice and has hardwood floors. However, the painjob throughout the apartment is a little sloppy. There are areas of the wallls/window sills that look like they dried while dripping and the paint looks caked on. The location is nice! It is right next to an awesome park and has a nice view, plus my apartment has two balconies! Summary: All in all, I would pass on this unless you are only staying short term. The management company is responsive but the building is lacking. There are worse places to rent from, but there are also definitely better places to rent from in the city. I'm really excited to move as being able to hear my neighbors constantly is grating on my sanity. read more

We've been in our apartment at 5128 S Cornell for about 4 months, and the roach problem is absolutely disgusting. We have to keep all of our food in sealed plastic bins and every time a new pest control person shows up, they are oblivious to the extent of the problem and only provide a basic treatment. Then, when we got desperate and bought our own pest control supplies because the pest control company was useless, Mac refused to reimburse us for the money we spent. If you're going to rent here, make sure you have a good lawyer. Pest Control had treated 4 times for roaches and Orkin once, not twice total as Joseph suggests in the comments to this post. We've requested a full inspection of the building multiple times over the phone, and except for one ineffective attempt, Mac just keeps sending people to treat our unit alone. Update: Finally moved out of this hell hole. Mac never was able to fully solve the bed bug problem. Do not under any circumstances move into this building. read more

I've lived at the 5530 S Cornell building for the past two years. I like my studio; it's clean, relatively spacious and conveniently located. Hakim, the manager for this building, has been excellent. Repairs requests have always been addressed in a timely manner. Snow removal and salting was always taken care of before I left for work at 8am. I did have some serious plumbing issues about a year ago - i.e., the kitchen sink backed up - but again, the manager was reasonably responsive, with good follow-up. While I'm not particularly thrilled that they seem to be monopolizing the rental business in Hyde Park, my personal experience with MAC has been pleasant. read more

Mac apartments Chicago provides a wide variety of living spaces of all types, however I have had issues with the maintenance of the buildings they rent out, as many of them are old and my current apartment is essentially falling apart from the bottom up. Beware of structural damage and/or dangerously rotted hardwood floors and cabinetry. Beware of making the assumption that maintenance will complete the job they are called out to do. They often arrive later than the estimated time you are told over the phone. Once at your apartment, they will often only attempt the bare minimum to fix the solution. Last year while I was away for a week, the sink in the kitchen flooded and soaked into the cabinets and floor. They plunged the sink successfully, but left 20+ dirty rags scattered across the kitchen, lots of silt in the drain still, and didn't remove any of the standing water in the cabinets. Even after having to clear out that water myself, the damage was enough to rot out some of the drawers and they have yet to fix it months later. The leasing agents at MAC are hit or miss. Some are kind and helpful, but others can be snappy and hostile to their clients, which is not an uncommon experience with MAC. Its difficult to find a independent landlord in hyde park, but I would definitely recommend it before going to MAC read more

I love living in a MAC apartment. I'm happy with my apartment size, and I love that the cable and internet are included. It's quiet- I rarely hear my neighbors. I love Terrace Grill, and it's got great views. The only thing I don't like are the elevators- they can take forever to come. Another complaint I have- not that this is necessarily MAC's fault- is the neighbors in the South tower who FREAK OUT when I bring my dog on the elevator. Look, the South tower allows dogs. Also, my dog is a pug. Not exactly the world's most intimidating creature. If you don't want to be on an elevator with a dog, then MOVE into the North tower, where pets are not allowed! It's such a pet peeve. A possible solution- when people move in, inquire about their dog preferences and make sure people know there will be dogs on the elevator in the South tower. read more

I always get great service from the maintenance staff! Very prompt and super nice!

Mac sent an email last night (3/30) to all tenants stating among other things that they would not be canceling/freezing rents for tenants in the midst of this pandemic and basically telling tenants they can self evict ("we can find a path to lease termination for you") if unable to make ends meet. In shameful language, they told tenants that calls for a rent strike are selfish. The truth is Mac (owned by Antheus Capital, look it up) has more than enough profit to cover its employees' pay and still freeze rent for tenants. Enough is enough. Everyone in Hyde Park hates Mac. As a tenant I will not be renewing my lease when it's up in July. read more

For every bad review you see, don't second guess it. It's true. Customer service is horrible. They are always rude to you when you're calling in regards to issues you're having with my apartment. They say you can access the portal and pay your rent on time but it's still stipulations with that. Not to mention they have a mice issue and roaches. On top of the fact that rent goes up every month and although you pay a peoples gas bill they will tack another gas charge on your apartment. Just turn the other way read more

DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!!!!!!! Please listen to me!!! I wish I would of listened to people tell me but I had Faith in them. They was very polite and seem like it was just others people personal problems. However, after I signed my lease and moved in for 1 month the place has COMPLETELY changed!!!! The worst!!!! One my apartment was dirty when I moved is and the bathroom racks was broken. Dead bugs in the kitchen and a live centipede crawling around in my apartment as well as the stairs hallway. I sent pictures and told them. They still haven't cleaned the radiators that FILTHY!!!!!! It was dust, dirt, and hair all in them. Not cleaned for probably years. The apartment has steam radiators for heat in every room and in every room they are filthy. To top it off I set up Auto Payment for rent. I reached out in December 4th to see was everything ok because I noticed my mobile bank didn't have that the payment came out. I spoke with someone in the office I believe her name was Tiana because I'm like our names are the same. She told me she looked at my account and it say that the payment was processed and I was ok. I'm like I can bring a check up there just in case because I didn't not want to have any penalties. On December 9th the email me saying I have late fees and etc. I'm like I called you all said everything was ok. I spoke with Joyce in account today December 10th at 9:39 this morning she was explaining the fees then I explained to her what happened. She told me that it could different reasons for the bank fee and each reason do not add up. I told her my account information matched as well as I had the money in my account. So it had to be a system error I said I can bring a check right now with the went amount. She told me to bring the check and write it for my rent amount. I brought the check up the I spoke with the lady who came out to pick it up. I even asked if we need to go to the bank and figure out my account stuff. She told me the check was fine. I wrote the wrong date so I had to rewrite another check right in front of her she gave took the check and it was fine. This all took place at 10:31am. At 5:44pm today I get an email from someone completely different Anthony Albino stating I had to pay late fees and etc. I'm FURIOUS!!!!! I even spoke to him on the phone as well as responded to his email. I'm so done with this place. I'm in real tears right now because it's about the principle and the unprofessionalism. How am I being punished for your system error as well as misinformation from your staff. He was not helpful and did not take in to consideration where they went wrong. I hold myself accountable. I have No problem paying late fees if it is on my. I need a place that hold themself accountable as well. This is not the place. I'm even more upset at myself because I had multiple people tell me that they are shady and do not trust this company. Even on the exact date I called on the 4th my coworker who also rented with this company told me that their auto pay make mistakes they charged him twice in one month and didn't give him the money back. He told me do not trust them but I'm thinking because I called trying to do what's right believing their word I was ok. I should of listened. Run Away!!!!! Get out!!!!!!!! Listen to me please!!!!!!! Hyde Park Apartments have better rent prices and are WAY more honest!!! I should of went with them but I really had a great experience with Gearey McLeod and decided to trust in the company. Gearey McLeod was the only reason I rented with them and felt like things was going to be ok. No it's not!!!!! The try to get you with being a UOC employee but it's not worth it. DO NOT RENT FROM MAC PROPERTIES!!!! They are shady fraudulent and untrustworthy!!!! read more

Please, please pay attention to the reviews. I wish I would have seen these reviews before moving in. They're completely true. This company wants money and at any cost to it's tenants. We had issues with people partying in a storage space beneath us. People peeing and throwing up in the back courtyard. Thr tenants above us partying all night during the week, fighting, throwing furniture into the walls and slamming things on the floors all night, yelling out of the widows, maggots falling from their porch and hanging out around the front door. I could go on for hours about the countless issues we've had with other tenants. We've had to call the police multiple times and I'd sent numerous emails to mangement and received only one call back. Every other time, I had to call multiple times to get hold of someone or just show up. But they're sure to send an email when rent is due. We finally started dealing with Mr. Washington who has been super about addressing our issues. However, we just had a tenant two floors above us literally throw dirty mop water with bleach out of her back door onto the porch and down to our porch, literally soaking my boyfriend head to toe, burning his face. Instead of being apologetic and remorseful, the tenant chose to be irate and attempted to instigate an altercation, threatening to call her brothers to handle her "problems." I am 5 months pregnant (high risk) and we don't use bleach in our home because I can't handle the fumes. Our apartment reeked and I had to step out to breathe normally. I spoke to management and though he offered to speak with the tenant, I was told it was a domestic issue and they couldn't help me. Also, when asked about breaking my lease and just letting us leave since we've dealt with the neigbors from hell for 9 months, I was told I could sublet, move to another property or pay up the lease. I would NEVER EVER suggest to anyone to live here so subletting is a no. I'd feel so guilty letting someone walk into that nightmare. And I'd never want to rent from them again. The nerve that we should continue to pay and give them money for rent to LEAVE the lease when we're supposed to be granted peace and safety in the lease and haven't received that, is absurd. Whatever you do, stay away from this company. It's truly not worth the trouble and the stress. We're stuck here for another 4 months hoping and praying things get better and the stress doesn't affect this pregnancy. Shame on MAC. read more

Mac Properties: horrible communication, dirty housing, rodent infested, money hungry idiots. Mac properties is the equivalent to an evil grandmother. They butter you up to do nothing but disappoint. Pro: VERY easy application process. Mac lures you In with free pre approval and nice to look at apartments. Nice mirrors and thats about it. Cons: small properties and over prices. Cheap appliances, cheap structure, broke laundry room, horrible mail system. Bug infested. Theres not a day that goes by when I don't see huge cockroaches. They practically pay to live here. Mice and rats easily come into your house during winter. DISGUSTING. Customer service: HORRIBLE. Mac are full of staff that blows your phone up when rent is late. Sneak fees on you. Insults your financial problems. I had an emergency which caused me to be $100 short on rent ( rent is $1270 500 sq. ft). I tried contacting them for help and was rudely insulted. "This is not our problem" and smacked me with an eviction notice. Brian (which is the manager however isn't listed AT ALL on their site along with the other employees) is not reachable at all however everyone tells you to contact him. Maintenance: Pretty quick with minor issues ( blinds, sink etc) but is no where to be found with rodents appear. Never clean up roaches just brush them to the side. once again DISGUSTING. I went to take my trash out to be bum rushed by a mice and made a request for exterminator only to be told to wait 3-5 days for a POSSIBLE exterminator. The clean freak that I am couldn't wait and paid a different company. I asked to be reimbursed and was told that "ITS JUST A MICE, YOU CAN LIVE WITH THOSE." Baffling. I really feel like I wasted monies then I had to think about it: do I trust a company whose exterminator can't get rid of their own roaches and rats to get rid of mine". Moral of the story don't be like me rent with a different company. There a lot of reasonable Hyde park. Try Wolcott properties, Pangea. Might as well move to the hood then deal with Mac. I am currently working to get them to release me from my lease. Thank you for lawyers!!! ps: call 311 and schedule a building inspection. Thats the easiest way out the lease. read more

I am not sure what is worse, the new "maintenance team" or the overwhelmed leasing department, either way I am getting tired of each passing the ball. Guess what MAC Properties when a resident puts in a work order for their building or individual apartment, we could care less who takes care of the work order. That is your job. We just want it done! If I place a work order with the maintenance team and they feel the leasing office should take this on then you should handle it - not tell me to follow up with yet another person. In addition, how about a follow-up call or email when work orders are in process. Sitting in silence wondering if something will be repaired or not is ridiculous and not professional. With that said, how long does it take for one leasing department/maintenance team to repair an 1/8 of an acre of property. So tired of walking up to my building - 5120 S. Hyde Park Blvd. - and feeling like I live in poverty; patchy grass, dead flowers, low hanging branches, puddles of long standing water, vines growing up the building walls and the more. We are the ONLY property on this block without a proper landscaping team. So please tell me why is my rent increasing yet another year. There have been no improvements to this building in my 2 years here. I guess if MAC is trying to meet market prices, I should just go and find an apartment (in the same area - how about down the street) worth the market price MAC is trying to charge. GET IT TOGETHER MAC these bad reviews have to be killing your moral on a daily basis. After many battles, stress pains and arguments I have gotten some things handled. But I am tired of fighting and this is not what apartment living should be about. If I wanted this stress I would by another house. I was warned about living in a MAC property without an onsite maintenance team and I should have taken note. Therefore take my advice, unless you yourself are handy keep away from MAC. If it wasn't the fact that I love my apartment (my private vintage space) I would have been out last year. This year, however, I may be making a better choice. read more

I cannot stress this enough: there is truly a special circle of hell for everyone who has ever been involved in the running or administration of MAC properties. I spent one hellish year living in a Hyde Park apartment due to the fact that these demons have established a near-monopoly surrounding the UChicago campus. There are so many things wrong with the lack of basic humanity and empathy MAC and its employees exhibit on a near-daily basis, but I'll be brief. We immediately discovered mice living in our apartment, a fact MAC neglected to mention before we signed our lease. MAC immediately denied any previous knowledge of these rodents (the mice, not the slumlords if that was unclear,) but when we pulled back our oven and discovered several (ineffective) glue traps, they quickly changed their story to a series of deflections and promises to fix the issue. Three months later, my lovely vacation to Italy was periodically interrupted by frantic calls from both MAC and my roommates regarding the terror into which my home had fallen. Mac arrived and left several times during this time period, each time claiming they had solved the issue. This was proved false again and again as we would literally wake up to mice running through our halls and bedrooms. I began my lease on June 15, and it was not until September 30th that we successfully convinced Mac to hire a new exterminator, who managed to exterminate six mice within a two day period, ending our first trial. Just to reiterate my point, Mac denied us proper service and dragged us along by our micey micey tails for a total of three and a half months before conceding to a slightly more expensive service that solved the issue of mouse shit in every corner of our apartment in 48 hours. Of course the rest of the year was plagues with other minor issues-service persons regularly entered our entirely-female apartment without notice (fun fact, this is illegal!) Mac played a hilarious game where they added random charges to our lease to see if we would notice. Our water service sometimes shut off for "maintenance" without prior notice. Another high was when Mac took it upon themselves to perform "aesthetic repairs" on the roof of our building during finals week and cut our internet and cable access. We lost internet for eight days, during which a epic battle ensued with the only company scummier than Mac, Comcast. As a quick side note, in case you were wondering if we were ever compensated for these losses of service or unlivable conditions, the answer is a resounding no. As a final end to the saga of the twelve months of horror, our roof leaked and created a colony of mold that overtook every wall in our apartment. Mac refused to fix this, even as our paint peeled and my roommate caught bronchitis. When asked to clean the mold, our lovely landlord Toinell (no, she was not lovely,) replied that the stains on the wall were not mold, they were mildew. When informed that mildew is in fact mold, she replied that if we wanted the walls tested then we would have to pay for it ourselves. Service then came out to paint over our molded walls, which did not work as they were wet with mold, and my lease ended, allowing me to walk away from a situation that would have undoubtedly granted me sainthood. Do not rent from Mac, and if you do, I encourage you to break everything imaginable in your apartment building. I encourage you to harass their management at all hours of the night, and hopefully from different phones as they WILL begin dodging and ignoring your calls throughout the year. Burn in hell, you greedy bastards. read more

My experience with Mac Properties has been awful. I've rented from them off and on for over 13 years and it's been issue after issue. In order to live in Hyde Park you kind of have to go through them since they have a monopoly over rental properties. I lived on 53rd and Greenwood and was being overcharged every month for gas usage and processing fees which totaled about $43.50 a month. One of their employees told me that I wasn't supposed to be charged this over my rent amount and gave me a credit for the previous year of charges. So, seeing that I've lived at this apartment since 2013 and have been paying this fee EVERY month it's only right to be credited everything. So I speak with their "accounting dept" and first the credit is off by some $700 and then when it's finally settled and they owe me $853 I'm told I have to wait 4-6 weeks. Fast forward to 5 weeks later and I get an email from this "Accounting Dept" saying the credit is being audited and they don't have a time frame as to when I'll receive my money. If you're late on your rent they charge you but they can take weeks to give back money they illegally charged you. THIS IS JUST THR TIP OF THR ICE BERG. Stay away from this management company! They have employees ( Nicole Allred ) who are just plain liars. They told me I was approved 100% and all I needed to do was pay the deposit before they send the lease so I could move in in 2 weeks. After I submit payment, they then ask for multiple additional pieces of documentation( as if I'm no longer approved). I submitted the documentation anyway and they said they needed even more time to verify the documents. They don't reach back out for several days even though I told them I want to move very soon and now they have my deposit. I had to end up calling back myself and speaking to a manager just to find out I wasn't approved for what reason I'm still not sure (I didn't care to ask because they told me I was approved already, so they lied in order for me to pay the deposit). They said they were going to expedite a refund of my deposit but I haven't received any refund or emails yet. They wasted my time, effort, and now they are just holding on to my money. I am high maintenance and Shoreland has exceeds all of my expectations. My city view is great, I love that the lake is right across the street. Everything is in walking distance. The common area of the building is always neat. I truly enjoy the 24/7 door person. What really sold me was the large ass walk-in closet and the washer and dryer (Thats was a necessity). read more

I lived in a MAC building for 3 years from 2013 to 2016 and before that for a year in 2010-11. They are by far the worst landlord I have ever had, but I was too exhausted from constantly dealing with them to write a review on Yelp at the time. However, I recently saw that they're using my name and the 5-star reviews I gave Kevin, who did a lot of maintenance for us, to make it look like people give the building where I lived 5 stars, and that is *incredibly* misleading. Kevin was great, but mere fact that my roommates and I got to know him so well that we all remember his name 3 years later tells you just how often we needed to have things repaired. This is a list of just a few of the most memorable highlights (or lowlights, I guess): 1. For the first 2 weeks after we moved in, we only had electricity in half of the apartment. 2. We had no secure mailbox for almost 6 months after the door fell off of ours. Which means we didn't receive mail for 6 months. 3. One of the bedroom's radiators never really worked, meaning that the average temperature would frequently dip below the legal limit in the winter. 4. They never seemed to be able to find our phone numbers to contact us, but instead would always call my mother. Which is mainly weird, because I'm not sure how they even had her phone number. 5. Almost 7 months after we'd moved out, one of the 4 of us who'd been on the lease received an email from MAC saying we owed $175 in back gas bills. Aside from the bill making no sense because we'd moved out in the summer when our gas bill was much lower, they waited all of this time to tell us about the bill. And when we asked for clarification, we never received a response. The bottom line is, I know it's getting harder and harder to find a non-MAC apartment in Hyde Park, but it's definitely worth the extra effort! read more

Do not rent from MAC. Air conditioning broke again, twice in one month. Nothing is being offered to residents in return. Horrible experience! read more

This company is all about money and sticking it to the renters. They ask for a non-refundable administration fee as opposed to a refundable security deposit. They increase the rent by 5% which is beyond what I have seen in other realtors. Also, they do not tell you about hidden fees such as the incredibly high electricity bill (since heating is with electricity). Avoid them at all cost! read more

i have a four month lease with mac, have only been here for two weeks, but yet mac property are doing tours of my apartment, despite the fact that iv only been here two weeks and have yet to move my stuff in. its normal practice for a property company to give me an option to extend my lease within one month of its termination, and if u choose not my extend my lease, tours of my property take place with the last four weeks of my lease ending not the last four months. i would never rent off this property company knowing that they attempt to do tours withhin four months of my lease ending. I work from home, and work shift hours, really disruptive to what mac properties are doing, and their agents are turning up at my property without me giving them approval. read more

Is it possible to give no stars? The absolute worst management company you could possibly rent from. To sum it up, High rents that continue to increase, poor maintenance, and a complete lack of consideration or respect for the residents who are on average paying more than 1,600 in rent. To sum it up, I lived in one of their hyde park buildings in 2014, they claimed to have just rehabbed the building, but upon coming home one lovely night on Friday, a mouse was running around my kitchen. Naturally terrified and appalled, I called MAC resident services and was told that no actions could be taken until that Monday due to it being the weekend. After arguing back and forth pleading for pest control to be sent I finally had to have an attorney contact the company so that I could be released from the lease. 4 years later now in 2018, I have rented from MAC again thinking maybe it was a fluke. And am again attempting to be exit my existing lease due to due terrible neighbors and maintenance negligence on behalf of MAC. read more

My experience with Mac has not been good as my family and I preferred. I give it one star for the fact I like my building and its location. It's very clean. However, the washing machines in my building hadn't been replaced for over a month. Someone broke into them and then damaged the machines beyond repair. Now the entire building have to lug laundry elsewhere to wash clothing. I have small children and it's difficult to do this constantly. I've reached out to Mac about this, and all I receive are responses stating in 2-3 weeks the washing machines will be replaced, but nothing has happened. Also the Mac workers should stop parking in rented spaces. I couldn't park my car because they decided to use my spot. I've had additional issues as well related to the last apartment we rented. We signed a lease that turned out to not be accurate as it should've been. Upon their discovery of this, we were stuck looking for a new place and had 3 weeks to move from our previous expired lease. This in fact wasn't legal on Mac's part. We were up against the clock of practically picking anything within reason, in order to move. We were left with a poorly managed property, ran down, loud unruly neighbors, and mice infected building. I don't recommend doing business with them because they are hit or miss. You never know what extent or how they manage your rental property. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. It's amazing that MAC trains their employees to steal from potential tenants. I put a $400 deposit down to secure an apartment. Just weeks prior to my move in date, I get a call from MAC telling me that there was a "computer glitch" and the apartment I secured was given to someone else. Fine, I thought, I'll hustle and find another apartment. It took weeks, I repeat, weeks to get my money back. Multiple emails and phone calls were made on my end in an attempt to get back my money. The employees are shady- almost as if they were recruited from cook county jail. BEWARE, just beware. read more
