I have eaten my share of small town diner fare over the years. This iconic Marceline eatery is definitely near the top of my list. It's quaint, homey, endearing, and offers up an extensive menu of comfort food staples. (If you're going for breakfast, expect a decent wait. Yes, it's that beloved.) When it comes to burgers, I rarely deviate from a good ol' fashioned patty melt. This one did not disappoint. Plus, they offered a slew of sides to complement your burger, including tots and jalepeno poppers. The hand-breaded tenderloin sammich is--I kid you not--the size of your head. We ordered it as an appetizer for the table and devoured it (complete with fresh onions and slathered with mustard) before our meals arrived. If you do nothing else, save room for their signature dessert, the Dusty Miller. It's a souped-up, gourmet hot fudge sundae, but layered with malt powder and marshmallow syrup for good measure. The texture is richly divine. Rumor has it the diner will be shifting from mother to daughter in the next few months. I wish them well in their transition. Absolutely amazing food, the line outside the door when we came into town was a clear indication of the popularity of this place. Me, my girlfriend, and her family ate here because we were visiting the Walt Disney Hometown Museum and this is pretty much the only place in the area to eat. Service was just okay. The waitstaff was friendly but got one of our orders wrong. The food didn't take too long to come out. The food was just okay. The curly fries taste like the Arby's ones you can buy in the frozen food aisle and heat up yourself. The corn dog nuggets also tasted like something you can heat up from the grocery store. My girlfriend ordered the tenderloin and said it was flattened too much and didn't have as much flavour as the ones she ate when we visited in Indiana. No one in our party thought the food was overly special. The redeeming quality to this place, however, was the Dusty Miller dessert. For the unaware, your ticket to the Walt Disney Hometown Museum can be redeemed here for a sample size (dixie cup) of their Dusty Miller Sundae. (FYI, you don't actually have to give them your ticket. You can just show it to them.) The Dusty Miller consists of vanilla ice cream, marshmallow syrup, hershey chocolate syrup, and malted milk. It doesn't sound like anything special, but it's actually really tasty! I'm not usually big on vanilla-based desserts as I'm more of a chocolate person, but the flavors complimented each other well for a sweet and delicious treat. Everyone in our party agreed it was the best part of the meal. Overall, this place is just okay. I wouldn't return here for the food, but if I ever come by to see the Walt Disney Hometown Museum again, I wouldn't mind dropping by for a Dusty Miller. read more

We stumbled across the Walt Disney Hometown Museum driving across northern Missouri, which is a block from Marceline Missouri's own version of "Main Street USA". Well, Ma Vices is the place to grab lunch there in town, but get in before they close at 3pm. This is a classic small town corner coffee shop. They serve good down home food and lots of different kinds of sandwiches at a good fair price. The young girl who served us was friendly, attentive, and helpful. (She told me the jumbo pork tenderloin sandwich might be more than I planned on for lunch.) The regular pork tenderloin sandwich was a good size and tasted good. Nestled in the corner of the old Allen Hotel building, this little diner offers an array of choices. Finding a seat may be one of the biggest chores you will face, as every time I have visited, it has been crowded. Sandwiches and breakfast items dominate the menu. Closing at 3pm, this diner does offer a small salad bar, and baked goods. I can recommend the chicken Philly sandwich. Cheesy and laced with onions and green peppers, with a light seasoning is very tasty. Bottom-less coffee cups are a definite plus. On historic Main Street USA, across from Ripley Park, this hometown establishment is one of the only non-chain eateries in town, but worth a look if you are visiting. read more

Terrible food and very poor service. The green stuff that appears in the eggs in the morning. That would be the grill cleaner they never bothered to clean off before cooking. Gloves are not worn in the kitchen. So when they touch raw chicken, eggs and then other food. This would be cross contamination. So if you have ever gotten sick after eating here that would be why. It maybe one of the only places to eat in town but the place needs to be shut down. Any health inspection would result in a closure of the place. Avoid this health hazard at all costs. read more
