These guys went above and beyond to rescue me from a pretty bad jam. I was driving through the Seney Wildlife Refuge on the Sunday of Memorial Day weekend when my car seized up and completely stopped working. Couldn't start it back up, couldn't close the windows, couldn't even take the key out. After calling a few towing guys who weren't willing to help out, i ended up speaking with Terry at M-28. He left his house on a non workday, drove 40 miles to the wildlife refuge and picked us up. Then he went and got his tow truck, drove BACK to the wildlife refuge and got my car. By the end of the next day, he had replaced my alternator at a fair price and drove my car back to the hotel i was staying at. On top of all that, my long ride with Terry and his buddy in the van was one of the most pleasant experiences of my trip. He really is a great guy and i'd recommend his shop to anyone. read more

On June 26th 4 of us girls traveled to the UP. We had car problems. AAA referred us to Terry Bond at M 28 Auto. Cell phone coverage is sketchy in the UP. All of our many cell phone calls lasted only 30 seconds. By the time we had a good connection, we were an hour away from his shop. He took the time to refer us to Nelson Oil Company in Munising. Tom took care of us there. We never got to meet Terry or see his shop, but if it wasn't for him, we would have missed our boat to Pictured Rocks! Our car broke down on my birthday as we were traveling up to Munising; my wife and I were more than impressed with this auto shop. Terry and his guys were the biggest blessing to us through their determination to fix our car and make sure we still enjoyed our trip. We were on vacation along the Superior Shoreline when the car broke down. No cell phone service! A good Samaritan stopped and took us back to the last town where we got enough service to call a couple of towing companies. It was the Sunday before Labor day so I got a lot of voicemails and then M28 returned my call. They drove to get us and then back down to where the car was located and to their shop. A good 120 mile trip on their day off. Less than an hour of getting to their shop we were back on the road and not broke! They were friendly and funny and the ride was enjoyable. i'm torn here. Terry came over to Munising after hours to look at my car, free of charge, which was AWESOME. he told me the car wasn't running well, and maybe it was the spark plugs and wires, but he would also check the compression to see if the head was cracked. so of course i took my car to his shop (M-28 Auto) the next morning, so he could look at it. after having him come 10 miles out of his way to look at it for free, it was only right. BUT, when i picked up my car later that day, they had replaced all the plugs and wires, AND found that the head was cracked. what do i need with new plugs and wires when the head's cracked? clearly that wasn't the problem - so why replace them? VERY frustrating, and a huge waste of money. ugh. read more

I was visiting Pictured Rocks at Grand Sable Lake near Grand Marais when I locked my keys out of my car on a beautiful Saturdayafternoon in July. I called M28 towing and while he was over an hour away, he said he would make some calls and get someone to me sooner. In 10 minutes he called me back and had someone on her way. I can't say enough nice things about the business and the people who work there. We bottomed out on a lake access road and were able to limp into a nearby town where we required a tow to a service station. Their driver arrived as fast as they could (very reasonable considering our location) and entertained us with local stories on our 45 minute drive to town. They promptly got our car up on a rack and determined the damage to be not near as bad as previously thought. They got the parts needed for our repair within the hour, had everything fixed and we were on our way. The price of the repair and tow were quite reasonable considering the remote locale and speediness of their service. So - Terry, Tony, Josh and the tow driver whose name completely escapes me now - THANK YOU! If we're ever up that way again we will swing in to say hi. Terry and the guys at M28 auto are very professional and helpful. My family along with our 2 dogs and boat were headed up to Houghton when our transmission went out just east of town. Within 10 minutes of calling Terry there was someone to help us. Wade was very courteous and helpful from the time he arrived and for the next 2 hours while he helped us tow our truck all the way to Negaunee. This is where the closest dealership was and after he and Terry discussed our situation and this being a warranty issue, they decided to take us along with our truck up right way to the dealership (and this was all at 8pm on a saturday night). The entire drive up there Wade was giving us tourist information (as this was our first trip to the area). Terry was very helpful throughout the whole breakdown and helped us work with our insurance and warranty groups. He also gave us a safe place to keep our boat until we were able to come back for it. He even went out of his way to follow up with the next day after we broke down to see how we were doing and let us know that we could call if we needed anything. This was supposed to be a relaxing vacation for my wife and I but turned out to be a nightmare of a trip. Terry and the guys at M-28 went above and beyond to help us throughout our ordeal. We were truly blessed to have found such a good group to help us through a difficult time. read more

This place was great! My car broke down on M-28 on the Seney Stretch while I was heading downstate. I called this shop, and Terry immediately sent out a tow truck. It was just my roommate and I, and we were both very frazzled by the incident. Terry chatted with us the whole time as his guys worked on the car. I was very pleased with the service, he didn't have any work done besides what needed to be fixed. My daughter was stranded near Munising on the Sunday before Memorial Day. With most places closed until Tuesday that weekend, I noticed that M-28 Auto advertised as being open 24/7. Sure enough, when I called, Terry answered the phone and agreed to help her that day to get the truck running again. Even though Terry was at his father's house celebrating his birthday, he still contacted my daughter immediately, fixed the problem and got it running that same day. He then suggested numerous sights to see and good restaurants in the area. He turned what could have been a ruined vacation into a joyous adventure. He went above and beyond and gave us piece of mind. If you have any car issues in that area, you should contact Terry first. (I certainly would again.) I just met Terry for the first time on that Sunday and for my daughter's sake (and my relief), I am so glad that I did. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. This place didn't do a diagnostic test to find the issues and ended up paying for extra labor costs. One hour job turned into a five hour job and customer service was a joke. DONT BRING YOUR CAR HERE! read more

I was passing through remote upper peninsula Michigan and started to have one of the bad car noises (pulley) on a Friday. When every other garage was booked these guys found the time to put in a power steering pump and get me back on the road. Without this work I could have been in real trouble. Recently I was traveling through Michigan from Ontario and onwards to Minnesota. On the return journey I noticed that I had gone past an oil change point and couldn't find any garage in Munising that would take me that day, or even the next and I had to get back to Ontario for a meeting. One mechanic did call Terry at M-28 and he agreed to do the oil change. The work was prompt and properly done and I had a very agreeable visit with other members of Terry's family while waiting. Terry staff was helpful in getting me unstuck this past winter, but my case of donuts came up missing from my car. Terry said it wasn't from him, but I could see the frosting and jelly on his face. Terrible place to bring your vehicle. When I didn't agree with how they handled my vehicle I was insulted by the owner, Terry Bond, by saying that he is right and I am wrong when I am telling him what's wrong with my car after they supposedly fixed it. I was charged for unnecessary parts and still have issues. Then he accused of not wanting to pay the bill when I brought it in. Also he allowed several people from his shop and his family to joy ride in my car putting hundreds of miles on my car. I documented the miles when I dropped it off and when I got it back. When I asked about the miles he insisted that he was not responsible. Don't ever waste your time or money at this place. They are nice to your face, but when things don't their way they are ignorant to you. read more

I was towed to M-28 Auto after an accident, and was very nervous about whether I could get the car fixed. The front bumper was seriously dented, and one headlight was out. The car was drivable, but without proper tires it was not safe for winter conditions. Terry and his crew were incredibly helpful. They got ahold of a motel in the area for me, set up transportation so I could make it to my job training on time, and were willing to hold the car until I could return to pick it up (once the roads weren't so bad). If I was reviewing solely for being hospitable and helpful, they would have a 5/5. Unfortunately, after I was given the bill I realized that all the problems with the car still remained. They had melted the ice around the car, and tested the brakes, and had some suggestions for the rest of the damage, but my bill was over $200. Even factoring in the cost of the tow, I wasn't sure why I had been charged so much, when so little work had been done. Ultimately, I am paying for most of the repairs at home as well. In short, somewhat expensive work, but amazing small-town hospitality. read more

to diagnose my vehicle took 7 days. During which Terry told me they had to drive my vehicle to Frye's in Marquette to reset the codes and finish the diagnosis. 3 more to repair it when it was returned the wires were hanging from under the dash. The cover for those wires was in the backseat on the floor and the knob for locking the back door was missing. It took another day to get it put back together and the knob was never replaced. The air-conditioner was not fixed when I took it back they had it for three more days I heard multiple scenarios of what was wrong with the AC including leaking from the condenser quoted a price of $1100 to repair the air-conditioning. When I said no I picked up my car the check engine light was on and the check four wheel drive suspension was on. The gas tank was empty. took it to another repair shop paid $430 to you have all new lines run for the air-conditioner. Terry talks a good game but really doesn't deliver. I never got an appraisal and ended up with a repair bill of almost 3 thousand dollars. Nightmare read more

Had M28 pick my car up to be fixed. I already knew what the problem was and told the owner, Terry. He assured me that wasn't the problem and proceeded to change almost a thousand dollars worth of parts and labor and still couldn't figure it out. He sent my car to a dealership to have it diagnosed and they told him the same thing I had told him in the beginning. He brought it back to the shop and "fixed" it. I got my car back over 2 months after sending it up there and it still wasn't running right. It was still overheating and now it was losing coolant plus the check engine light was on and doesn't want to start half the time. And to top it off Terry and his crew caused over $7200 in damage to my car and didn't mention any of it. Now he wont return my calls or pick up the certified letter I sent him. My next course of action will be to take him to court. In my opinion, this is a terrible place to bring your car. I know a lot of people that have had similar experiences with this place.
