I have a buyer closing in Babcock so today we were doing the walk thru. When we were done I wanted to see what Babcock had for food. I drove around looking for something that wasn't a chain and found this place tucked in the corner of a plaza. I immediately got a great vibe walking to the door with the music on in the patio and the fun outside decor. I walked in and was greeted by Andrea (I walked in at 1045, they don't open till 11, oops). She was the sweetest and chatted with me for a little bit and told me about the restaurant. It's owned by her, her husband and his parents. And the other staff is family ad well. They have been open for 4yrs. Started as a food truck on Food Truck Fridays at Founders Square and emerged into this great looking space. Their hours are 11a-9p, but since today is first day of world cup they are going to be playing all the games while open and even stay open later to watch the 9pm games. I was told by Andrea and the waitress that the "Cheesy Birria Tacos" was the top seller so I gave it a try. And I got a passion fruit smoothie as my drink. The smoothie was delicious! (BRAIN FREEEEEZE! LOL) They serve chips and homemade salsa while you wait for your meal. The salsa had a great taste to it. It is a tad lil spicy, so know that if you don't like spice. Andrea let me sit while they were still opening up and once 11 hit the customers started rolling in. I really enjoyed the meal. The meat was so tender, so when I bit into it I bit right theough... I wasn't pulling all the meat out of the taco on the first bite. Perfect. The rice n beans were ehhh... I'm not a fan of R&B, and i knew that. I should have asked what other options there were . I did end up asking for future reference and she said they have plantains and fries. Ill have to remember that for next time! Since I just stopping for a quick bite and to check the place out. I packed half my meal up for later. When I'm in the area again I'll come back and try other items that were recommended. All said and done, I really enjoyed the place. Mexican food at a premium!? YES PLEASE! So here's how is went. In my opinion you can always tell how good a Mexican restaurant is just by tasting their chips and salsa. Warm hand made chips, ah yeah! The food was fantastic. There was nothing wrong with our meals at all. The service was nice. Not overwhelming but I did have that cliche moment where 3 things happened. I ordered a drink that they ran out of, I ordered a dish that hey didn't have and the guy came and asked how everything was when I had food in my mouth. Ambiance: solid 3.5 out of 5. We used to come to M'Xuma's all the time. It was actually one of our favorite places, which makes last night's experience even more disappointing. Unfortunately, the recent changes to the menu, pricing, food, and flexibility have completely changed how we feel about this restaurant. First, the prices have become outrageous. We used to be able to order a pitcher of margaritas for around $25. Now, we can't order a pitcher at all and are forced to pay $18 for ONE GLASS. And now you're charging for chips and salsa? At a Mexican restaurant? Are you kidding me? The new menu was just as disappointing. We can no longer get diced chicken in the enchiladas, and we were told the onions could not be removed. What about people who are allergic to onions? You also can't order black beans, queso blanco, burritos, etc. There is absolutely no flexibility. I ended up ordering chicken fajitas because there was nothing else on the new menu that didn't contain onions that couldn't be removed, wasn't too spicy, wasn't fish-based, or wasn't red meat. Unfortunately, I didn't even like the chicken fajitas; the meat was very dry and had no flavor. My rice was cold, and so was my queso. And even though I ordered no onions in my fajitas and no pico, that is exactly what they sent to the table. The rest of my party ate without me while the kitchen remade my meal. When you're paying these prices, the food should at least arrive hot. We also made reservations specifically to eat outside. It was sprinkling when we arrived, so we were told we had to eat inside. The inside dining experience was horrible. The space is tiny and so incredibly loud that you can't visit with your table without raising your voice, so I couldn't wait to leave. To make matters worse, about 15 minutes after we were seated inside, they started seating other guests outside. If outside seating was going to resume that quickly, it would have been nice to have been given the option to move. It's extremely disappointing to watch one of our favorite restaurants change this much. The flexibility is gone, the prices are outrageous, the menu choices have become extremely limited, and the food we received was, at best, mediocre. Bring back the old menu, the previous chef, because the new one sucks, the pitchers of margaritas, etc., and the lower prices that made M'Xuma's a place we actually looked forward to visiting. Whatever changes were made recently have certainly not been improvements from our perspective; they've been detrimental. We genuinely used to love coming here, but after last night's experience, we will not be back unless things change. read more

What an amazing experience! This was my first time here. It was packed on a Sunday evening. A friend of mine had just picked me up from the airport and we were on our way home to her house as I was in town visiting, yet starving. Fortunately, there were two seats at the outside bar so we plopped down. The bartender, Mia, immediately greeted us with a perky smile and hello. That set the stage for an amazing meal and experience, but let me elaborate. The menu was chock full of yummy options. How am I to choose? In true Krissy fashion I asked the bartender for suggestions and I chose the one she suggested: Cheesy Birria Shredded Beef Tacos. Boy did that not disappoint! But before we even get to that, let's start with the margaritas. Yes I did say margaritas- so plural lol They were made perfect and the most beautiful terra-cotta ornately designed glasses or mugs. We had a great experience! The food was fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned. The birria tacos were tender, well-seasoned, and served with a rich consommé that was absolutely delicious. Today we took a quick ride with Freckles to Babcock Ranch and looked for somewhere to have lunch. We remembered the outdoor dog friendly patio at M'Xuma and stopped there. We sat at a nice table in the shade and it was just a beautiful warm day. Mia was our delightful server and Dave had a Jailai and she made me a fresh cup of black coffee. There were chips and fresh salsa on the table. We both ordered fajitas, mine were grilled chicken and Dave's were Pastor. They came with flour tortillas, yellow rice, black been and salad with pico and avocado. The servings were extra large and we each took home half. Lots of chicken and veggies that were marinated and yummy. Freck got a nice cold bowl of water and loved being outside! I typically love this place. Unfortunately not anymore. They just changed their menu- (raised prices and removed some key items) they no longer have regular queso blanco. The only queso they serve now is full of peppers and corn. To get a refill on chips it cost $3. Salsa refill is $2. Place is becoming a complete scam. Small scoop of rice is $5???????!!!! I like M'xuma a lot. They have some really great authentic Mexican dishes like gorditas but they also have some traditional dishes with a commercial twist to them, like the chilaquiles. We ordered the guacamole with chicharron and OMG that was out of this world. That in itself could be a meal. We love the outdoor seating, we took our dogs and the staff was so friendly and accomodating. We went the weekend before Halloween and we loved how family friendly it was, they were setting up for some festive activities. read more

We had a great experience at this place about two years ago, and my husband has been dreaming about the gigantic birria burrito he had back then. So we have it another try last night, and while I had a pretty great time, he was a little disappointed. The first time, the burrito was GIGANTIC, with a tortilla totally soaked in sauce, sides of onions and cilantro, and birria juice for dipping. This time, the burrito had just a little drizzle sauce, no sides, and the tortilla was cold and dry. I've included pics from last time and from last night for reference. The server said the burrito no longer comes with those toppings unless we wanted to pay extra. Our server Matt (?) WAS a life saver though, because he was able to advise about a lot of hidden gluten on the menu once I told him I had celiac (a major medical sensitivity). Nothing on the menu is labeled with gluten contents, and as it turns out, almost all the seasonings on the meat contain gluten! We were able to do just salt and pepper on mine to avoid me getting sick, but if he hadn't known and been proactive, I would have had a really bad night. I really like the place still, but I think it would be a super easy step to do some very basic swaps for seasonings that don't have pointless gluten content and to label some options on the menu. Plus, the birria burrito was pretty sad compared to the first one. Great drinks and service though!! read more

We ate here on a Saturday around 4 pm. We didn't have to wait for a table. The restaurant is cute and has plenty of seating inside and outside. We started with the queso fundido with chorizo. It was very good. The salsa was also nice, on the chunkier side with a hint of sweetness. The chips were warm and sturdy enough to hold the salsa and queso. I ordered the Birria tacos. The portion was large. Plenty of meat in each taco. The corn tortillas were slightly crisp. It was delicious. My husband had the burrito with barbacoa smothered in queso. It was gigantic. My son had the grilled chicken quesadilla. Again, it was a very large portion. We all had leftovers. Everything was tasty. The rice and beans were pretty standard and we felt a little salty. Do you like authentic Mexican food? Or actually great tasting Mexican food. In my opinion, there aren't a lot around Fort Myers. So, this one takes the cake. I loved it here. The staff was so inviting and the food was amazing. I sometimes order the vegetarian option and I did this time, I was not disappointed. Im not vegetarian but I know that if the vegetarian option is well seasoned, the rest must be too. The chicken fajitas were good too. Everything was well seasoned and fresh. Nothing here came from a can. Even the rice was very tasty. What stole the show, which is not pictured is the guacamole with chicharrón. I'm not sure if that's the name but it was so good that I had to take some home. It was pretty casual and laid back. The staff was extremely friendly. You'll feel like family if you choose to visit. Let me start with this: M'Xuma has been one of my favorite go to places since it opened. Food was good, servers were excellent. My most recent visit was especially disappointing given my prior meals. Food - Steak Fajita was so tough I couldn't chew it. Delivered almost room temperature to our table. Server disappeared so no way to complain about the quality. Server - a prime example of a guy who should NOT be a server. Attention to your customer should be your #1 priority. He was so busy disappearing for 15 minutes at a time that on a couple of occasions I was sure he'd left the building and gone home for the evening. Overall just a terrible time. 1.5 hours total at the table to get a couple drinks a fajita and a desert is just too long. Final insult? When it came time to pay the bill, we again waited and waited to see our server. Eventually I gave up and found him by walking around the restaurant, guess where he was? Hiding behind the bar, out of sight of his customers, chatting up his coworkers. We'll give them one more try and hope this was an aberration. read more
