This was a delicious find! Was staying in London for a few weeks and this restaurant was one we found late night to celebrate our anniversary! Hands down one of the best servers I've ever had! So attentive, friendly, knowledgeable! We sat in the Grill side, which was pretty empty but had a loud party upstairs. The coat check hands cute little coin too! What we ordered: * CHICKEN LIVER PARFAIT with Kalamansi Gel, Miso & Furikake Sourdough * WAGYU TARTARE with Apple, Horseradish & Foie Gras * KATSUOBUSHI DUCK LEG with Smoked Bonito, Hoisin & Bao * KOBE GRADE 10+/A5 Fillet * CRISP LETTUCE with Cured Egg Yolk * BROCCOLI with Fermented Chilli Brittle * SNICKERS with Chocolate, Milk Biscuit, Nougat & Dulce Ice Cream Everything was delicious! Smaller plates but they are all presented beautifully. The wagyu tartar was a little too acidic for my taste but my boyfriend loved it! Great quality meat. The Kobe Beef was a small portion but absolutely DIVINE, so tender and perfectly seasoned. Definitely needed to order multiple plates of protein! The chilli brittle on the broccoli was so tasty and slightly sweet -- I would come back just for that! The duck leg was delicious and crunchy but with hoisin and bao to make your own little bites! The chicken liver parfait was SO good with the toast! Only thing I could do without was the crisp lettuce, wasn't anything too special but a good side none the less! Food was fine, drinks were fine, service was traumatising: I'm not even kidding when I say that I had to exchange looks across the table multiple times over how alarming the service was. Our server could only be described as "violent" in his recommendations, which could be better described as arguments. We would say "I think we're going to order by the glass" to which he would say "no, I have the wine picked out for you". I ordered a martini, quote unquote "bone dry" that came out with at least 50% vermouth, and I nicely commented on it to which he said "it's balanced". Yeah, and it shouldn't be - I ordered it bone dry. Throughout the meal, the recommendations continued aggressively. We all felt very uncomfortable. God forbid one of us wanted a steak medium instead of medium rare, asked for ketchup with our fries, asked for any sort of modification - we were practically harassed: The food was fine, but the service nearly set me into a panic attack to the extent that I couldn't enjoy a single aspect of the meal. Truly the most insane service I've ever received. On top of that, the toilets (two floors up from our private punishment dungeon) were terrifying and difficult to work. We came here as an ENORMOUS group (I'm talking several hundred) for a planned reception following a performance. The restaurant was impressive and welcoming upon our arrival. We had assigned seating areas which was good but also confusing. Like, my table was directly next to the bathroom...cool. Others from our group were in a completely separate and enclosed room. A non-native-English-speaking person from another choir was having trouble finding his assigned area...he was supposed to be in Mezzanine Left, so I attempted to help him by bringing him to the upper elevated dining section and turned to the left....that was wrong, apparently. Mezzanine Left was apparently up the stairs and turn to the RIGHT. Because that makes sense...he eventually found his group and assigned area. We knew the meal was set and the same for everyone unless you were vegetarian. And they only expected people who are 100% all the time vegetarian to request the tasty-sounding vegetarian meal, so the veg-heads in our group ended up getting something NOT what the menu touted. I am a simple gal, a go-with-the-flow-er, so even though I would have preferred the vegetarian meal (this being the 3rd of four places we attended as included in our group-arranged trip to serve steak....so much steak in the course of a week....too much steak) I just took my cut of meat and ate it. It was probably one of the better steak options of the week. The accompanying sauce was pretty good too. Fries are always fine, and the bread and compound butter to start was alright. The highlight was truly the dessert, which I am generally not a sweets person. But the dark chocolate cake wasn't too sweet and the fresh berries and honeycomb on it were fab. We each got a glass of wine and bubbly to accompany dinner. A few friends and I wanted to order a bottle of wine to share throughout dinner, which we were told was possible on our own dime. Then the server told us they only had one bartender (again...for like 300+ people....what) so no extra drinks were allowed to be ordered. But a DIFFERENT server told the table next to us that as long as they bought by the bottle (which is what we wanted to do, too), self-purchase-able wine was possible. This was confusing all around the restaurant and among all the people and servers. Overall, the food was good. The service was alright. I might have had a better meal and visit had I been there with a normal-sized dinner group. Poor. First, at a Steakhouse one often begins with a nice whiskey. I ordered a Glenlivit 18 double neat. I kid you not I received less than a finger for 36 pounds! Then I ordered a medium 800 gram (1.5 pound) Ribeye bone in. The meal was delivered at our tiny table along with our salads. And the steak was already cut into pieces!! It was my first time at M Restaurant but my friend was familiar with it. We both worked in hospitality for long years so our expectations are high, but they surprised us. The italian waitress Lavinia explained all the meat cut and helped my friend choose a perfect red wine with her meal. I could see she has knowledge about the food and wine. I was taken here for my birthday and went in completely blind to what the venue was. I was admittedly enchanted by the grandeur of the chic, airy space and the many stations it has to offer. A two-tiered open-plan arrangement makes for a spacious, swanky atmosphere. The use of the high ceilings, the heavy glass facade, and many inconspicuous rooms for booking private parties is an incredibly efficient use of space and architecture. Additionally, the wine machine, the glass room of ageing meats, and the Raw v Grill concept is an excellent way of transforming a generic dining experience into a playground adventure for up-scale clientèle. Places like this often suffer from prickly and deterring staff who make you feel small. M Restaurants dissolves this unnecessary pretentious attitude, replacing it with warm, spectacular service for any person who walks in. *Note: I am not known for gratuitously bestowing 5 stars but we were on a 2 for £79 voucher and were treated like we were paying double the regular price. The deal included a tour of the restaurant, a cocktail each, a steak masterclass, and a 4-course meal. Have I had better slightly cheaper food? Yes. But if can afford it, I suggest you come to try out this newcomer to London not only for the cuisine but for all it has to offer. We were greeted instantly on the second floor with an offer of a (albeit mediocre) Mai Thai. Then came the extremely informed guide to walk us through the whole establishment, as we marvelled at 3 chambers used for private parties, client focused business lunches, and other events where you might require a DJ and a flat-screen along with your bubbly. It was explained that the restaurant combines Australian, South African, Japanese, and French concepts to create a fused menu. The service was impeccable, and despite our refusing wine (we had been to Dirty Martini beforehand and had a cocktail upstairs), the waitress opened up a bottle of Malbec as she said we'd enjoy a taste with our meal and gave us about a third of a glass each. So attentive. FOOD: The food was very good, starters being delectable seared kangaroo strips along with colorful miso fennel tuna sashimi. Our Argentinian steak was gorgeous, accompanied with purple-colored apple slaw, and an unexpectedly pleasant dessert of ginger-mango-sage-lemongrass pudding. The amarula panacotta with honeycomb was amazing as well. Fabulous. We will be back to use our wine voucher at the very least! read more

M seems to be a luxury high end bar and restaurant designed to cater for the business men and bankers working in the City part of London. It offers a variety of spaces, a large open space restaurant area, private dining rooms, an upstairs bar and a games room that I would describe as a luxury mancave. The menu is quite amazing and expensive, with high quality steaks the most expensive of which will cost you a few hundred pounds and the cocktail selection will set you back about £15 per drink. While the pricing does reflect the high quality of the restaurant it can also be a setback. Located right next to Bank, it comes as the expensive alternative to the many cheap pubs in the area and, while perfect for a special occasion or a client lunch, it fails to be the regular watering hole for after work drinks that its target customers would pick. As a result it always appears to be quite empty and dead, a fact highlighted even more by how big a venue it is. Despite all that, I do think M is a quality bar worth visiting. While I don't see it as being the hot spot that is always crowded, it's definitely a great place for a special occasion where you can have a high quality meal and drinks. Besides, sometimes having a nice meal in an actually peaceful venue with great ambience and only the people you want to spend the night with around is a great advantage. read more

I have been here on a business meeting today and because they are friends with the restaurant we were able to enjoy complimentary champagne and a small appetizer. Although a restaurant like this would usually be too posh (and too pricey) for me I enjoy those visits on occasion and especially when I am invited. The waiters are ambitious and more than willing to make your stay as perfect as possible. But I guess that's what you are paying for at the end. Still - Well done! We had a late night reservation for two. The dining room for the RAW side was almost empty but that allowed us to view its very tasteful decor. It's quite lovely. The table is an adequate size and chairs a good height for dining. This is very important. The service was attentive, however, our original server left before our starters began. We had an array of people serving us, from our main server to food runners to bar staff. We started with the Estrella Daura Damm beers. It is a light lager but a nice refreshing taste. We also ordered some wine to accompany our meal. A nice Italian red. We started with Chilli Almonds. My dining companion tasted one and gave a face grimace. I laughed and quickly squeezed the provided lemon over them and suggested she try again. This time she was satisfied this taste was wonderful. As we snacked on our almonds we decided to order the Sashimi Platter, Galician Beef Tartare and the Tempura Plate. The Sashimi was fresh and lovely. The fish tasted good. A large amount of wasabi was provided with gluten free tamari. This always makes my day. The tempura is made with black rice batter. This gives the illusion that it is burnt. When you do get over the brain game that it is burnt, you will enjoy a lovely experience. The tempura is perfect, crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Very enjoyable. Sadly, the Galician Beef Tartare tasted very plain to us. Then we had another look at the menu and we noticed it came out without the Red Sicilian Prawns, Egg Yolk, and Garlic Crisps. Basically we had raw meat, fat and smoked mayo. This is a very boring taste. luckily we had wasabi and tamari, do we doctored it up and ate it. One of the staff (who was dressed impeccably - so amazing) came over and asked how it was. We mentioned it was great except for the Galician Tartare. She seemed shocked. We told her it was boring and we wanted to try the Smoked Wagyu Tartare as well. When we showed her what was missing from our dish on the menu, we told her it came without the aforementioned accompaniment. She was shocked. She actually took it off our tab. We were very surprised. We did not necessarily expect to have it taken off. The Smoked Wagyu Tartare is amazing. The texture is perfect, hens egg, apples and shaved freeze dried fois gras (yes, you read that right - they take a piece and grate it over your tartare) was perfect. This is something I'd repeat. The dessert of chocolate and blackberry was perfection. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. If you are gluten free, this is not to be missed. read more

This place was such a disappointment for such a pricey restaurant. Upon our arrival we were greeted by a hostess who happily took our coats. Due to us being 10 minutes early we were sent to the bar which we had no problem with. However, we weren't seated until about 20 minutes after our reservation. When we booked the table online, there were multiple openings so I was confused as to why we had to wait an additional 20 minutes past our reservation time, but ok fine. Not a big deal. Everything took a long time. Having apps come out, entrees, the bill... However, we figured this was norm and shrugged it off. The problem was that not once did our server come check in on us. When we asked for the bill, we had to ask the bus boy who apparently had to wait for the server. This resulted in us trying desperately to get the server's attention and when we asked him and told him it had been a while he responded with a rude "I will bring it to you". Which he did not... Once again the bus boy dealt with our table and when we looked at the bill we saw that we were charged for something that was not even brought to us. The server never knew because he never checked in on us. So again, the bus boy had to chase down the server to correct the bill. The food was decent, but pricey. I must admit that they do know how to season and cook steak well. I would only return to head up to the bar because the bartenders were very pleasant. Other than that, no thanks. read more

I have honestly never had such a bad experience in a restaurant as I did today in 'M'. I nipped across the city to have my usual Thursday lunch with my sister and we thought we'd try this place. We walked in and asked for a table for two. The place was pretty much deserted, but still we got the bullshit umming and ahhing about whether they could find a table for us in their almost empty cast dining room. They then wanted our surname "for reference". Give our reactions later, I now see why they have implemented this process! "Will you want the grill menu or the raw menu?" The hostess asked us. "Not sure until we know what the hell you are talking about!" We answered. We were shown to a fairly uncomfortable table right in the middle of a sea of empty tables. No, we couldn't have a table round the outside - they were all being used by invisible people. Or ghosts. We were given 4 different menus. The raw menu, the grill menu (which confusingly had some of the raw menu repeated on it) a wine menu and a lunch 'Polo 28" menu. There wasn't actually that much in each menu, so it didn't take long for my sister to see the risotto she wanted an I spotted some sashimi and a tofu salad for myself. Although there were many many staff members (who incidentally were dressed somewhere between a French peasant and BA cabin crew) we couldn't seem to get the attention of anyone. The invisible ghosts were obviously very demanding. We finally flagged down a stewardess, sorry, waitress, and asked to order. Yes she said disappearing. Well over five minutes later, we got someone else who looked like they might help, as she got her pen out. Which menu would you like to order from? I explained that j was having some raw stuff (fish to be exact) and my sister wanted the risotto. She simply said "No you can't do that" and walked off. She came back some time later with a French peasant type guy with comedy moustache, who told us that we both had to order from the same menu. THEN WHY HAVE TWO MENUS?! Having wasted 30 minutes of our lunch hour by this time, we just walked out and went next door to Brasserie Blanc. They didn't mess us around or try to make us jump to their tune. This place is set up for the owners, not for the customers. They are not high end or good enough to demand eccentric rules be followed and frankly I expect a restaurant to put my needs first, or I don't pay them. read more

Fashion and meat! They don't normally go well together - unless you're talking Lady Gaga's meat dress, but M makes it work. In this two floor restaurant and bar with a fancy private dining area, you're served the best cuts of steak in a stylish, glam environment. Walk into the restaurant and you may think it will be all style and no substance as it's super glam. It's low lit with lots of wood and the waiters and waitresses are ridiculously good-looking. However, try the food and you'll feel guilty for jumping to the wrong first impressions. There are two options - Raw food and Grilled Food. Obviously, I went for the grill and had a damn fine Argentinan steak for £18 - cracking value! The triple cooked chips were sooo goood. Cocktails are delicious and imaginative and there are some decent red wines on the list that are picked to match the steaks. And the unexpected highlight of the evening was the toilet. This is specifically a review for the set meal with unlimited prosecco as I haven't had the pleasure of sampling the normal restaurant(s). My friend booked the girls on to the set menu deal with the lure if free flowing prosecco and it didn't disappoint! The drink was good and was given liberally but the star for me was the food. I have previously not had too much faith in set menus but this was truly outstanding. The meal is four courses and each one was great in it own right. I had fiery Edamame, kangaroo Tatar complemented but dollops of sweet mustard dressing and honey cake for dessert, nom! But let's talk mains. I had heard that this was a steak restaurant from a previous yelp event (go yelp!) so there was only one choice for me and that was the rump steak. Having recently been to Hawksmoor the bar was set quite high but I have to say that this steak was better. It was a different cut but the flavour was just what you want from a nice piece of well reared and we'll cooked meat served with a mountain of skin on fries and salad! Re-visited with some friends , who habituate this place in the evening. Booked ahead- mid week, we were the only people there , bar staff, for a good hour and a half. Breakfasts were pronounced "OK", although the breakfast ramen was deemed uninteresting ( and deducted from the bill) and the "M breakfast " was missing one of the advertised elements. Oh goodness. We dined here with a larger group of friends with all all-you-can-drink prosecco deal. The City was all but shut down except for M on this Sunday evening and we had a great time catching up under the free flow. The Bookatable deal made the whole experience really affordable - the options are more limited on the set menu - they were all quite delicious and afforded us a starter, main and dessert. The service was nothing to rave about but they were kind when the realised they'd left us to our own devices for quite awhile. I would probably not come here unless under a set menu of sorts but was please overall! read more

Very disappointing. The venue itself is nice, but the food left so much to be desired. We sat on the "raw" side - didn't realize you couldn't order off the steak menu if you sat on this side of the restaurant. We assumed we would have the choice. Anyway, if a restaurant is going to define its menu as "raw" then they should make sure the quality of their food is top quality. Not so here, the sashimi was average at best, and the rest of the menu was bland. Portions were also much smaller than usual, even for a "posh" restaurant, so we had to order a fortune's worth of food to be remotely full. Concept is OK, but poorly executed. I would note that I went the first week it opened, so maybe they have hammered out some of the issues by now. read more

M - magnificent? Marvellous? No! Massive disappointment! I had really high expectations of this restaurant (especially after sampling some of the food and cocktails at a Yelp event) but my expectations were anything but met. The start of the night began well, we had drinks in the bar upstairs and had fun tasting various wines (with a Vinopolis style card and machine). But it was downhill after that. We were chaperoned to our table then he offered to check in our coats (seemed a bit backwards as we should have had that offered as we entered the restaurant, not after we had been upstairs to the bar, then back downstairs having the the same person who greeted us take our coats). After the commotion of coat checking, we were shown to our table and to my delight had a very friendly waitress. First disappointment - the cocktail. I chose the 'Ocean Drive' and the only flavour that came through was the orange juice (with bits might I add) and no rum at all - so not a great start. As for the food (after we received the correct order and not the order for the table that was beside us that is), I chose the Chicken Karaage for a starter - really salty and wasn't happy to find lots of fat and veiny bits (part of it was chicken thigh rather than breast). I feel the menu should state that it's mixed chicken parts (I would have opted for something else had I have known it wasn't the breast). Finally the main course - rump fillet steak (added sides: smoked potato purée and sautéed wild mushrooms) - wasn't the best. I've bought melt-in-the-mouth steak (which didn't cost as much as M) at other restaurants that tasted much better. It was chewy, didn't have much flavour and again just wasn't the quality I expected. The potato purée was extremely salty (understandably I appreciate that being smoked it would be a little salty, but this was beyond bearable). The mushrooms was the only dish I enjoyed, but with such an unsatisfactory starter and main, I clearly didn't bother to try a dessert. Disaster struck again when the bill came! I was not happy to find that we were charged for a £40 bottle of wine we didn't drink - really not what I expect at such a high profile restaurant. With so many things going wrong with our night (and the lack of good quality considering the price we paid), I don't think I'll be returning to dine there again. "M" is for "meh". Not as good as it is aiming for. Came on a Wednesday with a group of about a dozen. We were seated in one room, then, after beginning our order, were summarily moved. We had a group menu (4 choices), but also were given a restricted wine list that only included the most expensive bottles. Mistakes were made on both the entrees and deserts. First of all in all fairness, we never made it to the restaurant, so I am not going to comment on the food or drinks. I will however talk about bad customer service and how marketing for a restaurant should not be done. We were looking for a restaurant in London with decent food where we could take our well behaved dog. Coming from Europe we are not used to have to leave our dog behind normally when going out for dinner. Since it is our daughters birthday we decided let's try and find this one special place. M Threadneedle St promotes itself in guides as dog friendly and - in fact - portrait a dog sitting next to it's owner at a table. I reserved a table online and wrote in the box available for special comments that we were coming with our dog. Of course I would expect to receive a call if there is anything not right. Two days before the dinner, I receive a call from a very inexperienced but friendly lady calling about the booked reservation. I confirm and mention at the last minute, that we are coming with our dog. She apologises and explains that dogs are unfortunately not allowed in the restaurant. I ask her why, when everywhere you look they claim they do. She goes away to talk to the manager. After a short wait she comes back and explains dogs are only allowed at special dog parties. Now, come on people. I have a dog and I have never been to anything as idiotic as a dog party. What is it supposed to be anyway? I am furious - not only were they oblivious to my comments when I made the reservation (I wonder what would have happened if I were seriously allergic to nuts, if they don't read the messages), they also work with false pretences. I would have never found that restaurant would it not have been in a dog friendly restaurant list. Now I have to say they lost a customer before they could even prove that they know what they are doing. I run my own business and I know how important it is to take customers seriously. Never would I dream to lie about what I do. It simply doesn't work that way. I booked a table through TRULY Experience, an online booking system that offers fixed menus for a fixed cost. It was a great deal and I will definitely be purchasing more experiences via TRULY. First we went for cocktails. Both had an amazing balance in flavours, we went for the gin based strawberry cocktail and the margarita. Special thanks to our bartender, Edo, who had an extensive amount of knowledge and passion for the cocktails he was offering. We went on the having a Masterclass tour with Jorge, the head chef. Very grounded and genuine. Obviously passionate about food. When we were seated at our table, we were given a warm welcome and a lovely quiet spot, perfect for date night. First I had the rice crackers with aubergine and then the kangaroo. Out of this world. Beautifully balanced flavours on gorgeously thin bread. Sweet and cute presentation. Starts the meal with very high expectations. Argentine Angus steak was positively misleading. Initial thoughts - looked very small yet once we tucked in it was a beastly portion which definitely satisfied the price. Excellent flavours accompanied with good quality home made chips and a salad which was a bit of a let down (Diced lettuce with something similar to a thousand island sauce, very watery and unloved) which is on the complete other end of the spectrum in comparison with the quality of food served. Dessert was unforgettable and unforgivable. One of my top guilty pleasures, I will never turn my back on meringue and white chocolate. Stunningly executed and brilliantly satisfying. The Honey cake was very well balanced in honey and walnut. Delish. The service was great, with special thanks to Roberto, our waiter, who helped us with our choice of wine and also ensured we had a lovely evening. One thing we would comment on, is the choice of music. At first, the jazzy / lounge-chill music was just right and perfect for a Saturday night playlist, but as the night progressed the music went on to being clubby and bassy. Not really what you'd expect / want in such establishments, and did not complement the atmosphere. Other than that, it was a fantastic night with fantastic service. OMG, this place is too much. We went there for a business lunch today. 12:15 seated on time, 3 of us. We ordered within 5-10 mins. There really were only a couple tables occupied. essentially empty. We're talking and getting deep into the weeds with the client. I'm sort of wondering where the food is after awhile. 45 minutes later, i.e. 13:00, the waitress comes over to say that the order never went into the kitchen, she's so sorry it will be out in 15-20 minutes. We looked at each other to and replied, no thank you we have to get going. She said she could get something quick, 5-10 minutes. No thanks.
