Rather than helping me understand my options, she became visibly irritated and asked what I was complaining about. I wasn't complaining; I was simply trying to communicate my preferences. Two other employees eventually stepped in to help. Although her demeanor improved afterward, the interaction had already made me extremely uncomfortable. To make matters worse, my nail edges were left rough, and the usual cuticle oil and lotion were skipped entirely. I've overlooked similar attitudes in the past because I've generally been satisfied with their work, but at nearly $200 per visit, I expect both quality and respectful customer service. All in all, I highly recommend this nail shop if you're around the Toluca Lake, Burbank, Studio City, Van Nuys or North Hollywood areas. I noticed the prices were constantly changing and I frequently felt like I was being overcharged. What ultimately made me stop going, though, was developing a SERIOUS fungal infection in my toenails. Two of my toenails became so damaged that I essentially lost them. I brought the issue to their attention right when it started & they said I could take vitamins & it would go away.... When I brought the issue to the salon's attention, instead of showing concern or taking any accountability, I was told it was simply something I must have contracted on my own. I was also left with the impression that it would eventually go away. It didn't. Once I finally went to a doctor, I was immediately told that the infection was consistent w/ something contracted from a nail salon and that I needed to stop getting my nails done while it was treated. I really wish I had been encouraged to seek medical attention sooner instead of having my concerns brushed off, because I may have been able to prevent the amount of damage that occurred. After spending years as a customer, the lack of concern and accountability was extremely disappointing. Nail salons have a responsibility to take sanitation seriously, and when a longtime client raises a health concern this significant, it should not simply be dismissed.

So, if you've been here anytime since mid-April/early-May, you've been reviewing the new shop, The Beauty Stop, under new ownership, not Guru Nail Bar. The owner of Guru Nail Bar, Lily, has another location in Sherman Oaks called Beautevo on Ventura Blvd. Now, I've been to this location when it was Lily 1 and Guru Nail Bar, and then again once it was Lily 2 and The Beauty Stop. I had been going to Guru Nail Bar for my regular appts about every 2 weeks since Nov '23. I stopped in on a whim around Thanksgiving and got the best manicure I've ever had. So I decided to keep going there even though I live nowhere near it. I went as usual in early April and then I was out of town for several weeks. When I got back, I went in for my usual upkeep. It took me two visits to realize the place had been sold and was under new ownership but I knew the instant I walked in for that first appt in early May that something was radically different. The vibe had completely changed. There were new faces but that didn't faze me. It was the energy in the salon - it was a bit more frenetic. Whereas prior the space was calm and chill. I also noticed that while my nails always looked great, they weren't lasting as long. So, I hunted down Lily 1 and her other shop (I knew she had another location because she had referenced it on other occasions). It's Beautevo in Sherman Oaks. I went in for an appt last weekend and it was chill, and calm, and I got the best manicure, as usual. So, just know that if you're coming here to leave a review you're not doing it for Guru Nail Bar. He was professional, knew his job well and was extremely meticulous about his work. They have 4 chairs to do their manicure, and 5 massage chairs to do their pedicure. Thankfully, the TV was on and it was not the depressing, sad, violent news. They were showing Americas got Talent. Also, soft music would have been nice to listen too. After he was done with my pedicure Jamy, took me inside their room where they do waxing. I needed to wax my under arms, and eye brows. She did a great job; and for both services they charged me $58.00. Even though they are the business owners, I still tipped them well. Place was super clean, with cute decor here and there. Parking shared with other businesses, and one gender neutral restroom also very clean. She even gave me a $2.00 off for my waxing. My only critique is that the massage that Nick did on my legs/feet was too short. Didn't even last 3 minutes. I also like the pressure to be medium to medium hard. He hand strong hands, but didn't deliver. I will definitely visit this salon when I am in the area. Highly recommend to others. During my pedicure, the technician insisted that I needed an acrylic toenail because one of my toenails was short. I politely asked if they could simply file it instead. Instead of taking the time to explain why an acrylic nail was necessary, the technician laughed, which made me feel embarrassed and uncomfortable. What made the experience even worse was that they handed me the nail file and expected me to file my own toenail. If I'm paying for a professional service, I shouldn't be asked to do part of the work myself. The overall attitude was unprofessional and unwelcoming. I left feeling uncomfortable rather than relaxed. Good customer service is about listening to clients, explaining recommendations respectfully, and making them feel valued--not pressured or laughed at. Unfortunately, I won't be returning, and I hope management addresses how customers are treated.
