We purchased our first home recently and it needed major foundation and construction work. M Leon was recommended by our realtor, and we liked the bid they worked up better than a competing bid...both in price and proposed solution. The things we loved about working with them include: 1. When the owner came out to the property to meet with us and talk us through the bid, he directed his questions/responses to me as much as to my husband. The home-buying process up to that point had included several inspectors and contractors who (never maliciously, but quite noticeably) addressed 100% of their communication to my spouse. I so appreciated that Manuel did not do that. 2. The crew was friendly, respectful, and cleaned up after themselves every day. 3. The work was finished within the time frame they set out, and within the budget set out in the bid (no small feat with such a major project). 4. Overall we just felt that Manuel and the crew understood what they were doing, had a lot of experience, and were prepared to address anything/everything that cropped up during the course of the project. The only reason I am giving them 4 stars instead of 5 has to do with communication, as it was occasionally difficult at times to receive a reply from the main office when trying to reach the team. I found it worked best to call, then follow up with an email, and then not be shy about following up again if needed. Toward the end of the project we happened to be home during the day when the crew was working and that was better, as Manuel stopped by at least once a day to check on the project, and talking with him in person works well. So my recommendation would be to try and arrange things so that you're home in person at the start and end of a major project. read more

Yes they don't have sale man with fancy uniform come out to give you a quote but they did give me a good price and did outstanding job. They excavated half of our basement that was all dirt and then put up retaining walls that extended to the foundation. After doing a lot of research, I chose M. Leon to do our foundation repair because they were recommended by several other contractors and they gave me the best price. Pascal and the workers were all lovely people and easy to have in and out of my house for three months. They resolved all of my concerns quickly and went above and beyond the scope of the contract on some of the details. Our neighbors had the exact same work being done on their house at the same time, and M.Leon finished our job at least a month ahead of them. I've already recommended them to another neighbor (we all have the same basement issues) and would recommend them to anyone who asked. They worked hard and did a great job. I was referred to this business by a commercial building contractor friend of mine. I called on a Monday morning and explained to the lady who answered the phone that I had a water leak in my crawlspace which had been hidden by insulation under the floor. I further stated that I had removed the insulation and found what appeared to be significant water damage to the subfloor and floor joists and wanted to find out if it would be ok after getting it dried out or if I would need to replace it all, and if replacement was needed, to get a bid on the job. She said they were getting a lot of calls and someone would call me back by the sometime the next day (Tuesday). When I hadn't heard anything by Friday, I called again. I explained that I had called on Monday but hadn't heard back. At first she said they had no record of my call, but with my persistance, she finally found a record of my call. She said someone would call me back shortly. Well, I wasn't holding my breath on that and set the phone down while I "used the facilities." Wouldn't you know, they pick those 2 minutes to call back. The message they left said that I lived too far away from their office and they don't do plumbing. They told me to call a plumber. So, why couldn't they have told me when I called the first time that they don't service my town? Why couldn't they have had the courtesy to call me on Tuesday, as they had promised, to tell me that. Also, I didn't call them to repair the plumbing. I called them for a job to repair/replace floor joists and several hundred square feet of floor & sub floor, possibly part of a load bearing wall...potentially, quite a costly job, not because I needed a plumber. So, I called right back only to be told the person was on another call. I asked for a call back when that call was completed. That was yesterday morning. It is after dinnertime now, the next day. I'm not holding my breath for that call back. All that said, my commercial contractor friend said this guy was the best crawl space guy around. I can't attest to that, but I can say that my experience as a potential customer was very disappointing, and in a way "you should call a plumber" they were insulting and dismissive. In 2010 we purchased a 1960 home that was completely remodeled. The necessary repairs included replacing a number of posts and their cement pads under the house plus placing a new sump pump under the house to prevent a recurrence of rotting posts. Now ten years later I hadn't heard the pump switch off and on in a studio space located toward the back of the house and above the sump pump. (This may have been dryer than years past or I just wasn't in the studio as I had been in the past.) In any case, I called Leon Construction to come out and check the pump and make sure everything was in order. To our delight everything was working as it should. When I asked what the charge would be, "No Charge" was the answer. He was just happy that their was no malfunction and we could rest easy. How awesome is that!!! Everyone at M. Leon construction is great. We had Tito install a sump pump for us almost 3 years ago and did a great job. We are selling our house now and needed them to come back out to check out something the inspector had pointed out that was wrong with the crawl space. They got out there as quick as possible, and re-sealed the vapour barrier for us no charge just to help us out as selling a house is stressful enough! Loraine was extremely helpful and accommodating. M Leon was called out by my realtor to follow-up on the inspection of the house we were considering purchasing, to evaluate the foundation and help us assess whether or not to go through with the purchase. They came, quickly examined the crawlspace and missed a MAJOR issue which is now costing us over 30K to repair. They failed to identify a major hole from a previously buried cesspool directly under the house. As we later found, when looking to put some insulation under the house, the hole was clearly visible from the crawlspace. Leon Construction do some serious updates to my basement. Pascal came and estimated the job, talked me through it in great detail with great patience, sent a fixed bid with options to do more now or save some for later (a really big plus), and then came with a crew of two to perform the work. They worked steadily and quickly, having done dozens or maybe hundreds of these kind of jobs, and the results now look fantastic both inside and out. No mess was left. During construction we ran into several unforeseen and hidden problems - mostly rotten out beams that were concealed before. When this happened we stopped to evaluate our options and I was given an update as to the additional costs. Pascal kept these additional costs down, which I greatly appreciated. Other than this, the team stuck to the original fixed bid covering both labor and materials. There were even instances where the team saw an easy opportunity to add on a little extra and they did - for example, covering a small patch of exposed dirt with concrete rather than plastic sheeting. All in all, it was a pleasure working with M. Leon. Everyone on the team was very easy to talk to and great at explaining things, including letting me know what additional repairs I could do myself and how to do them correctly (awesome!). Had Crawlspace cleaned up after 25 years in home. This involved repairing insulations where it had dropped down, removing old ductwork that had been previously replaced, and re-lining the whole vapor barrier. They also went around the outside of my house and made sure that all the air vents were clear and had screens. They were quick to respond to my initial request, and easy to work with on scheduling. Surprised at the glowing reviews. I paid an exorbitant amount for drainage and crawlspace work. The bid including a vapor barrier. I was shocked at their results. I have seen proper vapor barriers installed with seams going up the wall at least several inches. In this case, they simply laid down cheap plastic with no work done on the side walls. They were supposed to close all entries (to prevent rodents, etc) in the basement and that was not done. To make matters worse, the debris (old carpets left by previous owners) that was paid for in the bid to remove, was thrown over the decks and left to decompose in our backyard green space. Our terrible realtor recommended them and I'm so very sorry to have had them do the work. read more

This company was hired to fix the water issues in the crawl space of the house we bought prior to our purchase. We have a warranty and noticed standing water. They came out and took a look, said it needs additional french drains and would get us scheduled. That was over two months ago and have had no luck getting them to come back to do the work. Convenient that our warranty will be up before it really starts raining again. Very unprofessional. Guess I will need to file a formal complaint to get this resolved. read more
