This is an updated review. The first time I went was for dinner. I gave this spot a 5/5. I was excited to take my cousin for lunch. She's also an elite reviewer and I wanted to show off my newly beloved hidden gem. However, maybe lunch is just not a good time to go. When we walked in my cousin was told she's not allowed to take pictures inside the restaurant so you can't see the ambiance. This was the first time I was ever told that. But, later we asked if we could take pictures of the food and we were told yes. So not the biggest deal but something to note for other reviewers. So, the tortillas from the chicken tacos were cold. The waitress kept coming back and lingering to take our order, and rush us out. She even made the comment "you guys are slow eaters." It felt very uncomfortable. We usually like to go to lunch we order appetizers (ceviche and soup), then an entree (tacos). Usually we get dessert and drinks but due to the waitress we decided to skip on these and just leave. We were sat upstairs so I guess she didn't like to keep going up and down. However no one else was dining in at the time so I'm not sure what the rush was. The waitress even made the comment that she was the owners sister in law. She came up to me and asked me if I was his neighbor and stated my last name and asked if I was related to another restaurant owner. She took my phone number at the beginning, I'm not sure why there was no wait. So I am unsure if that's how she got my name because I didn't give it to her. Which was just uneasy to me. Again I loved the dinner the other night. So I don't want to say never go. These are just my thoughts so yall can know what you are getting into.

This is a cool place. Food was good and they had a ton of sauces. I felt the prices were a bit high in my opinion for both the food and drinks so for that reason I probably will not return but food was good. Service was alright but overall not very friendly and wasn't wowed by my visit. The menu stated NO CHANGES, NO MODIFICATIONS, NO SUBSTITUTIONS, NO ALTERATIONS so keep that in mind if you plan to visit.

M Cantina has a really creative Mexican menu. The chef has wonderful vision and the food was very good. The service was excellent, attentive, and very efficient. The decor was vibrant and lively. The cocktail menu is impressive and our drinks were great. We had the duck tacos, the surf and turf tacos, the chips and salsa quad, esquite, the passion fruit and coconut ceviche, which had shrimp and scallops in it, & the cinco leches cake. We were told that it's jalapeño season in Mexico and there did seem to be a little extra kick in some of the dishes. Overall, this was a wonderful experience and we can't wait to go back.

Great Service, the salsa/Sauce selection when your food is brought out makes this stand out from any Mexican dining experience I've ever had. The Ambiance was amazing overall would recommend you bring 3 or more people with you so you can all try as many tacos as you can. Everything on the menu was A+ !!

I've been to M Cantina many times since they first opened. I never had anything less than an excellent dining experience on any of those occasions. From the courteous staff, the excellent food and the beautifully intimate atmosphere, there is nothing to dislike about this restaurant. Some people may complain about the prices, but I can say with certainty that if you want Tex Mex or cheap Mexican takeout this is not your place. The owners use only the best quality ingredients to create unique items that borrow heavily from authentic Mexican cuisine. Easily one of my favorite restaurants in Dearborn, if not in Michigan

Service from Heidi was outstanding she made recommendations and answered all our questions and was very pleasant. Food was good had four types of tacos - filet, duck, chicken and pork. We also got the fajitas appetizer. I really like the beef the best and pork was 18 hour cooked. They have additional sauces that you can add to all the dishes. I would come back to get more tacos and try more dishes.

Where is the button for six stars?? M Cantina is PHENOMENAL!! The Mixology is next level and the way they combine ingredients for your food is just unmatched. If you want delicious experience from start to finish, visit M Cantina! Our waiter was excellent and everything came out quickly. We ate upstairs this time and it had a really nice ambience and lots of natural light. One of my favorite Mexican restaurants of all time.

Tortilla soup. Yummy

Awesome!! A little tricky to find but worth the hunt. Reservations are strongly encouraged. Open for Thanksgiving. Thanks to the staff for being here Amazing drink list. The South of Rio is delicious. The tortilla soup was outstanding. Highly recommended. Chicken tinga tacos are loaded. Churrasco tacos are flavorful. And all the sauces. Dessert is phenomenal!!

the best thing here is the food - YUM. I felt like I was sitting in Polanco in Mexico City with this level of gourmet food. the salsas/guac included with the chips were insanely good, I would have been happy if that were my only part of my meal. strawberry lemonade was DELICIOUS! topped with strawberry chunks and a lemon slice. the tlayuda was also very delicious. not pictured, but the chocolate lava cake we got at the end was to die for. I'm drooling just thinking about it. the cecina tacos were slightly underwhelming after the delicious apps. but I can't wait to come back and try many of their other yummy sounding food items!

A great spot for high end Mexican cuisine. What really makes this place stand out is their impressive lineup of 20+ house made spicy sauces each one crafted with care.

M Cantina is a great spot for gourmet Mexican food. My friends and I split the chips and salsa quad which is a great shareable. I ordered the soup as well that really hit the spot! We also had several orders of tacos that everyone enjoyed. Service was a bit slower that day but understandable. Ambiance here is great!

Grilled Shrimp Tacos.

Very attractive restaurant. Enjoyed speaking with the owner/chef and his wife. Excellent presentation of food/tacos on wooden planks. Homemade sauces. The three of us each had 3 tacos: potatoes, chicken, and shrimp. They were all superb! We shared one serving of rice and beans. Everyone went home happy and satisfied!

Ask the Community - M Cantina

OMG- is the owner the famous mixologist Junior Merino?!

Yes, this is the man Junior has done this for the city of New York.

Where does the name come from? It's cute

The owners moved from NY little over a year ago, ,, searching for name they thought M for Michigan and Cantina for the Mexican name.

Taco's were well made, with double corn tortillas, packed full of meat , no skimping here, and just cilantro and onions. Definately very authentic Mexican style taco's and not the Americanized versions you find throughout the area. My only qualm, which was minor, was that the meat was lacking the seasoning I like when in Mexico which gives the flavor pop that I personally like. I took care of this with some salt and pepper along with salsa to tune the taco to my personal taste. Relative to the Salsa, there was a walk up Salsa bar with multiple Salsa's to select from which I truly liked and reminded me of one of my favorite Taco Joints in Puerto Vallarta, Taco's Revolution. These salsa bars, are quite convenient and act as a "Fixing bar" that allows you to tailor the taco to your personal taste. I have not seen this before in this area and wished more businesses did it. They also need to add the cucumbers (dont knock it till you try it) and some onions as well to complete the fixing bar. (: Food comes with gratis nicely mildly seasoned chips which I really liked. The seasoning is more than just salt, quite tasty and unique to this business, Very nice! Relative to the facility and staff, the restaurant is a no frills operation and has a relatively small footprint with a limited number of tables which is probably something to keep in mind during peak dining hours. Clearly they let the food do the talking here. Staff is very friendly with prompt service and good follow up throughout. Overall a very good Mexican restaurant as reflected in the good Yelp reviews. The food was delivered quickly and hot by a cheery waitress after I was greeted and had my chips and drink within 3 minutes of sitting down. The bad. I ordered the lunch "special" and even though I could not find if the rice and beans accompanying my tostadas. Surely, $14 was not the price for 2 bean tostadas......? I asked to add shredded chicken on one tostada and steak on the other. The chicken was tasty. The steak tasted like goat, unfortunately. The refried beans were very good. They had a great flavor base but not salty at all. The rice had the look and texture of Rice-A-Roni (without the "roni "). It was extremely moist. It could be that since I was there after lunch rush I received freshly made rice. Finally, the Fried Ice Cream was horrendous. I knew that the crust on the ice cream is Corn Flakes. But.... They didn't even grind the corn flakes hardly at all and the coating was ... soft and mushy.

Small counter space by the restaurant. The restaurant has no seating. Space enough for maybe 2-4 people while you order your food at the counter. I noticed folks sitting in their cars waiting for their name to be called out. 2 Chicken, 2 steak tacos, 4 chicken tacos, California chicken burrito, chicken and asada quesadillas, side of chips and guacamole. $50.25. The guacamole doesn't look so good, the container wasn't fully closed (later found out after opening it at the office) and it turned brown on the drive back to the office. Was told at checkout that I would get salsa, but it is only the salsa verde, not my favorite. The chicken tacos look anemic. The tacos look so very sad and the cilantro looks old and brown as well. I ate a few pieces of chicken off, it rather bland. I was hoping for some red salsa, but only had the salsa verde. The guacamole was bland as well, added some of the salsa verde, still insufficient flavor for me. Rather lack luster street tacos at the stand. Doubt I will return to eat again.

After looking at the other reviews I have to wonder about what happened to my experience?…read more I arrived on a Monday around 6:30 pm and there was only one other table in the entire restaurant of three people who were getting ready to leave. As I walked to the counter I noticed that behind the counter there were nacho chips in baskets stacked on top of each other under a light ready to be served to tables. Yuk! I was told I could sit anywhere so I was looking for a seat away from the a/c vents because it was so cold inside that I was glad I had my jacket. As I sat looking at the menu I started to put on my hood due to how cold it was but barreled through without covering up. I did not complain just ordered my food. I was helped by a server but don't recall him telling me his name but I can tell he may have been helping take out customers while attempting to serve the only table of 1 in the entire restaurant, me. Ask I got my chips I noticed dried sauce on the basket and not any type of separation from my chips. Yuk. My food came out quick but unfortunately I ordered a water and never got it. Glad I had my own with me. The food was good and fresh. As I came to the front to cash out I asked for receipt and was told that they could not give out receipts because their register cannot make copies but I could take a picture. This seemed like the norm in how they handle transactions but unfortunately is not a good way to go for me. And this is where I decided I would not be back. As i took the picture of the receipt I asked why is the name on the receipt (El Herradero) was different than the name on the building Burrito Loco? The person working who was also the person serving me said he did not know. What he didn't know is that I was looking for the restaurant El Herradero and my gps took me here so I assume they either changed the name or went out of business. Either way, unfortunately my experience here was not that great due to the service but most of all I cannot even get my own receipt for my own purposes? Wow. That's a first!
