Excellent "inexpensive" (AKA cheap (: ) street taco joint. For my first visit here I got two Asasda (Steak) taco's and one El Pastor at a cost of $2.75 each!! Taco's were well made, with double corn tortillas, packed full of meat , no skimping here, and just cilantro and onions. Definately very authentic Mexican style taco's and not the Americanized versions you find throughout the area. My only qualm, which was minor, was that the meat was lacking the seasoning I like when in Mexico which gives the flavor pop that I personally like. I took care of this with some salt and pepper along with salsa to tune the taco to my personal taste. Relative to the Salsa, there was a walk up Salsa bar with multiple Salsa's to select from which I truly liked and reminded me of one of my favorite Taco Joints in Puerto Vallarta, Taco's Revolution. These salsa bars, are quite convenient and act as a "Fixing bar" that allows you to tailor the taco to your personal taste. I have not seen this before in this area and wished more businesses did it. They also need to add the cucumbers (dont knock it till you try it) and some onions as well to complete the fixing bar. (: Food comes with gratis nicely mildly seasoned chips which I really liked. The seasoning is more than just salt, quite tasty and unique to this business, Very nice! Relative to the facility and staff, the restaurant is a no frills operation and has a relatively small footprint with a limited number of tables which is probably something to keep in mind during peak dining hours. Clearly they let the food do the talking here. Staff is very friendly with prompt service and good follow up throughout. Overall a very good Mexican restaurant as reflected in the good Yelp reviews. The quality of the food and at the price point it is being sold at make this a must try if you are a fan of good Mexican food, in particular Street Taco's. read more

It's often so hard to find authentic, spicy, flavorful, Mexican food, but La Corona fits the bill! When you walk in, it looks like a hole in the wall restaurant, but don't be deceived by the looks. The people were so friendly and made great suggestions, and the chips and salsa were the best I've had in a very long time. I got the red spicy salsa and it was so much better than the weak ketchup style salsa. that so many other places serve. I asked the cook about his recipe and he shared how he makes it so tasty...! Yum I had to have one of the street tacos, Carne Asada, and it reminded me of street tacos in Southern California. Absolutely perfect. I also ordered the Carne Asada, wet burrito and the flavors were great! The rice was spot on and the beans were savory. We came here after looking for a nearby Mexican restaurant and Yelp. This place appears to have opened a few months ago. Small spot with 5 tables, they do a lot of carryout and Doordash. No alcohol, which is a bummer because I love a margarita with my Mexican food. It's very clean, with colorful decor. We were greeted by the cook when we walked in. I thought we had to order at the counter, but they told us to take a seat and a server would come. Our server, was a young girl, who seemed shy and timid, but sweet. They had a lot of specials on a board, including a combination plate, that my boyfriend ordered. Combo special was only $12.99. I couldn't decide, but I went with Steak Fajitas. They were delicious and a read deal at $15.99. There was a self serve salsa bar, which had pickled onions and habenero peppers, watch out we didn't expect the heat. I saw it was labeled "very hot", I've never known pickled onions to be spicy. The tortilla chips were really good, both spicy salsas were a bit bland, but I squeezed in some lime juice and they were better. I think we will be back or order in Doordash. read more

We had a lovely dinner at La Corona! The food was delicious. We started with fresh tortilla chips and salsa (which came from a self-serve salsa bar, so fun!). To eat, I got the rice bowl and it was absolutely divine! My party were all very pleased with their food as well. Our waitress was very kind and prompt with her service. The inside of the restaurant has less seating than I was expecting, but we had no trouble getting a table! Would recommend if you're looking for some yummy Mexican food in the area. read more

A friend told me about her 2 experiences of getting carry out and being very pleased with the freshness of the food she ordered and wonderful flavors. I stopped in for dinner and staff was very attentive and helpful. There are 5-6 tables seating up to 3 people + 3 bar height chairs at a small counter. My Hard Taco dinner was delicious, shells were packed with ground beef, lettuce, cheese and tomatoes. I asked about chips and salsa and the young man stated, "I asked them to make a fresh batch for you, it won't be long." and he showed me their little salsa bar. You can ask for it or get it yourself, so I went to see what it offered. Traditional red mild was spot on fresh tomatoes with ample seasonings, a green hot tasted fresh and the heat was strong but didn't last long. The habanero salsa had nice heat which I thought was milder than the green! Yellow corn chips are light crisp and delicious with a dusting of seasoning but not overly salty like so many can be! The beans and rice both had delicious flavor, the rice did not have any signs of onions/ peppers but whatever the sauce it absorbed during cooking was very flavorful. I treated myself to a Horchata and it complimented my food perfectly. Diners get regular forks and knives like you'd have at home, not just lightweight restaurant style utensils. I asked for a glass of water and that's exactly what it came in, a glass like you'd have at home which I thought was a nice detail. Decor is simple but colorful and lively. Prices were $$-$$$, my total was $16 and change and worth every cent. I highly encourage you to check out this small local business that offers a smaller menu, many specials on a white board inside but clearly focused on serving food made with high quality ingredients for the best flavors. read more

In Mexico City, a "Pambazo" is a sandwich made of a particular type of bread stuffed with potatoes and chorizo and then drenched in a guajillo sauce, marvelous OMG a must try. Great new place with a small section to dine in, maybe 5 small tables. I have tried a few different menu items in my 2 visits. The Al Pastor streets tacos are good and they have a self serve salsa bar with 4 different salsa's and some pickled onions. I have had both the steak and chicken fajitas that are excellent and a good value for the price, under $18 i have also tried the chicken enchilada's that that hit the spot. Both visits I have gotten the Fried Ice Cream and it is a very good one. Overall for a brand new restaurant the food is very good and at a great pricepoint. read more

What a gem! I am a Mexican food nut. Lived in San Diego for years- met my wife there. San Diego has the best Mexican food of all the places I've been including many places in Mexico. I've eaten Mexican food meals several thousand times in my life (I'm 65). It is my favorite cuisine. Food here- very good, authentic Mexican food made by someone that knows what he is doing. Carne asada tacos were very good with meat having very good seasoning. Beans and rice are served hot and tasty. Nice salsa bar. I am a huge fan of seasoned, simmered chicken. It is very difficult to find in Michigan. La Carona has tinga chicken. It is spicy and flavorful. Excellent. (Another reviewer stated that the chicken was too spicy. I completely disagree. There are a thousand places in Detroit where you can get bland, boiled chicken that is unseasoned. Because this other reviewer said the chicken was spicy, I drove from western Canton to try this place.) Chips are served at the table. The owner comes out to the table to check on your meal. He is personable and genuine. There are only 4-5 small tables. They play Latin music softly (not loud which is rare these days). It's very clean, brightly lit and has uplifting colorful decor on the walls. Could not be more pleased with this little shop. Family run, clean with authentic food. Discovered this place on the weekend (I was the last person in at 9pm Fri before they locked the doors), fell in love with the food and the chef/ service staff, went back on Sun for a lazy, late afternoon lunch. The food was excellent, the staff are friendly, the chef (Rodolfo) cares, he asked both times how do you like your taco/ enchilada -- I have had shrimp tacos, beef enchiladas, and (yum yum!) tres leches cake; the complementary appetizer taco chips were fresh, probably the best I have had in a long time. The shrimp was done just right, the tacos were were grilled to have the oil flavor and the fillings were fresh - street tacos perfect, just right! the green sauce on the enchiladas was light and tasty. Tres leches vanilla cake was fluffy and soaked in cream, worked for me. The place is basic, simple -- 3 small tables, self serve counter to get your own salsa cups & lime wedges, likely most of the business is takeout; in a no-frills not fancy plaza with ample parking. There is always ample staff (I think it is a family run place), friendly smiling counter and service staff to support the good food karma that chef rodolfo creates. read more

La Corona has a straight forward Mexican menu with an interesting and delicious rotating speciality menu. I love the food here, they have great burritos and delicious tacos. The hospitality is top tier from all the staffs. There was night when I walked, oblivious to the shop being closed. The staff didn't mention anything to me about the shop being closed or declining me of service, they welcomed me, took my order and made my food. It was only after I left the store to pick up some drinks next door and returned to the shop to pick up my food that I realized they were closed. The food is on pointe! The street tacos were delicious, the salsas were flavorful with a perfect bite. The tortas are large and stuffed. I was not sure what to expect walking in but the owners are legit from a Mexican background. This restaurant just opened up near me. My husband and I went in to try it out, and after we left, I wouldn't shut up about how good it is! This is a family owned restaurant, and the staff members were very friendly. the ingredients tasted very fresh and it was full of flavor! I got the enchiladas and my husband got the quesadilla, both dishes were very filling. We ended the meal with the tres leches cake, and as someone who does not like cake, I loved this dessert!
